Your basic step, it's just a transfer of weight. There are 8 beats, which makes merengue one of the easiest dance and one of the hardest because of the cueing motions. It's really simple.
We're going to start with the left foot, and we're going to transfer the weight on the count 1, so you go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, in an open double hand hold. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. I'll show you the other side. Closer dance position. Leaders, most of you, should always start with the left foot. Follows always with the right. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, 8. If you're closer to your partner, same way. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Make sure your feet are in between each other. The leader's left foot will be outside the follower's right.
That's your basic step.
Increase the speed of the video to 1,25. You're welcome.

I'm loving her shoes tho!!
why doesn`t he have actual merengue music in the background
Yesica M maybe copyright? I dont really know
@@jasonaguilar6832 You are right. So many "merengazos" are sadly copyrighted by the big Latin record companies (for example, Sony Discos), especially the merengue hits by Oro Solido or Wilfrido Vargas, so the dancers decided on probably a non-royalty track they could dance to to avoid having the "musica de fondo" be copyright-muted.
Merengazo - this means a danceable merengue hit that a lot of Latin dancers adore hearing. For example, "El Tiburon" of Proyecto Uno.
The music in the back isn't merengue...
Andy M its called stock music
moviemagic its called actually listening to the right songs while learning. You dont want people making fools of themselves dancing merengue to salsa, for example

Nicely explained.
Thank you that was explained so simple anyone can do it
so I need more specific instructions, it's how I learn things. Which way are your hips going when you lean your weight on one foot? Is it opposite? Do your hips flow or is it more jumping back and forth? Do you lift your feet (and if you do, do you lift them high/move them far?)? Thanks!
I know this is 5 years old but you’re kind of doing a soft march. You can lift your foot off of the ground and depending on your stylistic choice, you may decide to lift it higher or lower, but it’s usually very low like a light tap. As your foot taps the floor, the *opposite* hip leans outward giving the body a more flowy motion.
better late than never, thanks man!@@ccpr15

Hi what is the song 😊❤❤
Shmoney!
The way to dance the merengue basic step right - make sure that you perceive yourself as being grounded on each step - don't hop on each step - that is - even though you think you are marching in merengue, don't make it too obvious - don't goose step or do flaunting leg lifting to lift your foot off the ground in each step, or you will definitely be way off character in doing the merengue dance.
Exceptions to the "no-lift" thing are in some merengue moves that require a tap step, like the "mambo step" or the "ibo step".
