That’s a 10 string Mexican guitar called a “Bajo Quinto’ 5 double strings…there is a 12 string also. It has a beautiful sound. The guy playing is the bass player of a Mexican band called kinky and he is a family friend. You’ll hear them call him “Primo” (Cousin) because he has the same last name “Villarreal” but not related.
Pau has the power to bring a grown man to tears when she sings and the same with Dany when she sings “When I’m Alone” acoustically. These girls are in a category all their own.

Pliego Villarreal is playing a Bajo Quinto, a Mexican bass/guitar. It's a 10 string in 5 pairs. They were calling him Primo which means cousin in Spanish, but they are not related, just have the same last name. The song does not get played often because of the need for the 2nd guitar.
What TW song to do next? Suggest "Narcisista", their 1st (of 3 current) songs in Spanish. Played here at Teatro , with a guest.

What a song, right? The Warning opened for Foo’s the last show before Taylor died. This was written b4 his death. The second verse though….could’ve been written about him. “ Tell The wolves your finally coming home now.” “Do what you did best, and burn it all down.” He always left the stage with nothing left to give. 🤘

The Queen of the Ballads does it again!🥰 This is my favorite song from the whole Teatro Met. show(s). Nobody does it like Pau, but those sibling harmonies were off the charts as well! I'm a little disappointed that they don't do their slower stuff much at all anymore, except for Dany's 'When I'm Alone', but even it speeds up after the slow intro.😉

The extra guitarist is Pliego Villarreal (no relation) from the Mexican rock band "Kinky". He's playing a bajo quinto (Spanish for "bass five") which is a 10 string guitar with 5 double courses kinda like a 12-string guitar, but tuned like 6-string bass guitar without the lowest string. It has a range similar to a baritone guitar, but also has the shimmery 12-string sound. He's playing an electric bajo quinto here, but traditionally they are acoustic instruments.

Next, or somewhere in the queue: "Survive", several versions available, but the one from Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 2022 concert is probably the best. But live from their younger gigs are impressive also, particularly the one the did in the 2017 TEDx show at UNevada (notable among other things for Pau fracturing a drum stick, the piece landing on a cymbal then getting launched back stage).

    *Revenant*
a REVENANT is "one that returns after death or a long absence"... this song by DPA/TW is the 12th one on their "ERROR" album, their 3rd since they became a band 10 years ago... to me, this song appears to be about loss, heartbreak, and pain... they have a few songs of similar theme... in this one, the protagonist seems to want to say goodby to the past after some sort of breakup or possibly a death... they are trying to come to terms with what happened and are seeking the truth about what transpired... going by the definition of REVENANT, maybe that one who has been gone is returning or has returned and maybe there is some hope for reconciliation of sorts?
in this rendition of DPA/TW's *Revenant* , the guest musician is Pliego Villarreal (no relation to DPA but they do call him cousin)... he is playing a Mexican 10 string bass known as a bajo quinto... it is strung as 5 pairs of strings with 4 bass and 6 guitar strings...
    other guest musicians have been:
    - Beto Ramos (Pau's drum coach),
    - Pablo González Sarre (Ale's bass coach and band mentor),
    - Arejay Hale (Halestorm drummer),
    - Barry Stock (Three Days Grace lead guitar)...
they have also shared the stage with other bands like Moderatto (an '80s glam metal parody band) and Eruca Sativa (Argentine alternative rock band)...

Actually that is not a twelve string. It's a Bajo Quinto which is a 10 string bass/guitar combo used in Mexican folk music. There are a number of ways to tune it, either standard tuning or a split between bass-guitar. It depends on what you are playing it for. Based on what I could see he was playing, I think (I could be wrong) he went with standard tuning like you would do with a twelve string, leaving out the top E and lower E. I don't believe based on his finger positions he is using the G,C,F unison A, D octave tuning common on this instrument, which is another way (traditional tuning) to tune it.

I feel like getting to hear this song live would be almost a spiritual experience. Proof of how talented and comfortable they each are with their instruments that they can move through different genres and be this consistently great. Ale may not be comfortable singing lead but look how effortless she makes her excellent harmonies here look.
You mentioned Pau's vocal range so I wanted to send another recommendation for Narcisista (maybe even do both Foro Didi and Teatro versions). In an interview Pau said that the 2nd verse of the song can be difficult for her as she goes from the very bottom to the top of her 'normal' range. Recently (the last Europe tour) it seemed like they were having Dany do the first half of that verse maybe because of the difficulty of the low section. All three say that Dany has the widest vocal range.
Sidenote, if you want to hear alternate (very rare) versions of some of their songs, check out the Montreal acoustic show. Ale was too sick to perform a couple years ago, so Dany and Pau did an improvised acoustic set with Pau on keyboard. They sang this song with Dany saying it was hard to do without the 2nd guitar to go with. They also did Amour with Pau singing lead (which sounded surprisingly close to Dany's voice on that song).

First I have to say your voice is great for this and the musical details you bring out is just what I have been looking for. I started listening to Metal recently, Metallica and S.O.D found The Warning from their 2015 "Enter Sandman". I really enjoyed you reaction to Dany on the Wah pedal. I have a few favorite reactors pretty much The Warning only the last 8 months. Some Warning video suggestions mostly earlier stuff: TedX show and "THE PRETENDER - FOO FIGHTERS COVER - THE WARNING - OUT OF THE BASEMENT". Also Dany does a lot of nice solos on their "XXIst Century Blood" album, kind of reminds me of Eliot Easton.

Actually that is not a 12 string guitar, it is a type 10 string (5 double courses, tuned A2-A1, D3-D2, G2-G2, C3-C3, F3-F3) acoustic bass guitar that is common in their part of Mexico, called a Bajo Quinto (Fifth Bass). It is derived from the Bajo Sexto (6th Bass, which is 12 strings in 6 double courses, tuned E2-E1, A2-A1, D3-D2, G2-G2, C3-C3, F3-F3 ), however the body is not large enough for the lowest string to resonate properly so that course (E2-E1) was often unused and left unstrung. This caused some luthiers to not include that course of strings when building instruments (you aren't going to use it, I'm not going to build it) , and thus the Bajo Quinto was created. In terms of size compared to a 12 string guitar it is a bit deeper in the body (modern instruments with pickups about 1" deeper but older instruments are larger still) with a shorter neck (joining the body at the 12th fret instead of the 14th).
Now for the guest player, in some of the interviews with DPA they will make reference to a cousin, this is that person. Cesar Pliego Villarreal, he is not actually their cousin (it is possible they are very distantly related, but you would need a genealogist to work it out) he is just a family friend, they just have the same last name (their last name is very common in that part of Mexico and it has been there a long time), so DPA call him "cousin." He is the bassist for the alt rock band Kinky based in Monterrey Mexico (the same city The Warning are from, it has a significant music scene). Kinky is kind of a big deal (their song "Mas" has been used in commercials, TV shows, theatrical trailers), at the time of this performance they had more fame (locally and international) than The Warning.

Second, why do you feel it necessary to tell us you hate him? You do know that that reflects on YOU more than him, right? I'd be curious to know why you feel that way about him. The man has a big heart and genuinely cares about people while being funny as hell. I never feel the urge V to tell people I "hate" someone whom they might like, and believe it or not, millions DO like him. So, is it his politics? His looks? What? I like watching your reactions.
