- NEW ! Revised Version of Carbon Fiber.
I decided to do a updated version of Carbon Fiber since I get asked so many questions about it. I also did a full length video that is for sale on my web site that is packed full of different ways to use this technique.
I like the carbon fiber checker technique. Thanks for the tip on what to use. I have been in the stores looking for something that would work for that.
I liked this one Ed, these applications make much more sense to me than just painting a whole hood or something like in the last video.
Thanks ;)
I did my guitar similar to this. Base coat of black, followed by silver through the same material, followed by candy blue and a buttload of clear/wet sanding. Looks like a mirror now.... Thanks Ed!
Every person has a different skill level and from teaching I have found that some times it is intimidating and overwhelming to some one that has never airbrushed before. So that is why i redid this video. To try and break it down just a little better for the beginner just starting out.
Ed your the man, iv watched your vids and applied it to my paint jobs, i have a awesome wrinkle effect bike now, along with other things.
Nice bloopers at the end there. Good to see you haven't lost your sense of humor. Great idea for doing painted carbon fiber. I may have to give it a go some day. I'm sure I can think of a few ways to use it on a Skyline.
another great Tutorial from the master, ive used many of your tequniques on many projects, Thanks From Australia!!
Carbon fiber effect on the checkers, dude that was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
@907joeyak Lay out the checkers and pull one set. Spray it silver then pull up the second set and spray silver over both of them allowing the first one to become the brightest.
sweet video man im gonna try this out :) also i hate when people ask so any questions i think your videos are very inforative and easy to understand i dont know why people need there hand held the whold way its custom paint !!! its called custom for a reason! learn from your mistakes peoples :)
Already ordered! lol
I'm not sure if it's the same brand of mesh, but Lowe's sells the non-slip mesh that has a slightly larger pattern compared to Wal-Marts, if you want a larger carbon fiber look.
I usually cover my carbon fiber texture with black candy, so it looks like it buried in resin.
Thanks Ed for the revised video. I just tried this technique for real this time,... came out great. Finished with Candy Red. Thanks again, great videos.
All the way from Germany,that is so cool.
I am glad that I could help.
Fantastic brother wish I would have known about your expertise years ago....I used to do murano paint jobs and used a lot of Imron paint!!!!!
thanks Ed, you´re so cool, I use Paashe H and VL airbrush, I only build scale models (WWII airplanes) but your tutorials are a great guide
lol spray paint comes in graphite. wicked video Ed, i really liked what you did with the carbon fiber checkered flag it looks really good i think im going to give it a try. thank you.
Thanks a lot. I'll inbox you a pic when I'm done just to show you how much of an inspiration you are!!!!!
Very nice video,like it a lot
for every one out there looking for a graphite black,dupont has a pigment called just like that "graphite Black" it is perfect for this .
again you make it look so easy...
i love the b b b bloopers...
Good video, nice tips. I think the finish looks quite nice, I'd love to have a go at this on a PC case but those spray guns are not cheap, and the paint for metal and plastic are different, maybe some day =/
Thank you very much for sharing with every one else. Now that is what this is all about. I have even over reduced my black and added a couple drops of purple into it and sprayed a coat over the carbon fiber. That also looks cool.
Again thank you for sharing.
I like this video much better (using the tape as reference). Thanks again :)
I like you do airbrushing and love bow hunting. If you can, I would love to see you paint a bow riser carbon fiber. It would make an awesome video.
Just saw where to get the videos from but some expertise advice on the colors would be much appreciated...thanks again.
I love the carbon fiber effect and have ordered your dvd on it. Can you tell me the colors that you use for the most common look? your videos are great!
I tried to simplify it a little more.
Thanks.
Hi Ed, it's a pleasure to watch your videos. Very interesting technics, descibed by a friendly guy. I'll keep on watching.
With kind regards from Berlin, Germany

(West-Berlin-Customs)
There you go. Thanks for sharing with every one.
Awesome Vid Ed... I like to see all your vids...
@kachorro72 I am not sure if it is a hundred percent rubber but I am sure it has rubber in it. I bought it at WalMart in the rug section.
Glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for sharing that tip with every one.
Thank you.
First off let me just say that your video is by far the best tutorial I have seen for laying out carbon fiber. Second of all. I am trying to lay out carbon stripes on my 91 daytona but have been unsuccessful in finding the non slip mat that you have in the video. Is there a site that I could order from to get more then a 3x7 section of this?
@DavidGlinski
I am not really sure in spray paint form. Sikkens makes a grafite color in there system.
Very helpfull video, like all of your videos.
Cool maan I am glad I could help.
you do a good job breaking it down.I like your videos cause its simple and down to the point and usually inspires me...I have been airbrushing for just around 2 years and im 16 now:) there is a really short video of a quickie freehand skull i did on my page if you dont mind looking :) thanks
Hopefully by tomorrow I will have it for sale.
Where can I go to get your videos on dvd, you have helped me out a lot and I would love to see more. I do have one question, right now Im doing a spiderman motorcycle theme and I want to make the blue look carbon fiber, its a dark blue with some flake in it but I cant decide if I want to add some silver or black to it?? Any advice?? Your a genius man, keep posting and motivating me to paint more, THANKS!!!
Just love the videos you do awsome.
I just looked at it. NICE!
Thanks for watching.
please do! that would be the sickest video ever! 5*
I bet it looks deep and rich looking.
I’m new to the carbon fiber being painted on, so my question is what’s a good way to add a little depth to the carbon fiber look after you’ve done the stencil and sprayed your color on top of it maybe mix a little black, but really really watery and knock that over it just a little bit. Just curious thanks for any help provided by anybody out there.
@SpankyTheHouseRat
I will pick you up a DVD player that you can watch them on and the DVD's.LOL
I am glad that the bike turned out.
@2pacproducer2 Yes it does.
Black and silver with over reduced black back over the finished piece.
There are five new ones on my membership.
@SpankyTheHouseRat
Hey where is my cut? HA HA
That is cool man,way to go.
awsome as always, love the flag effect. will be using that one. once my smoke and flames are worthy of it. thanks for posting. i'm sure you know how much it helps guys like me just starting out.
@RUVALTIR
If you liked this one your gonna want to buy the one I just did yesterday . It will be up for sale this after noon. It shows you step by step of how to make a skull to look like it is protruding up through the Carbon Fiber.
Thank you.
Well thank you.
Hi Ed, how can I create carbon fiber effect on a curve surface? Is there any trick I can use to perfectly fit the...let's say...stencil on the surface? I want to use this technique on my helemt.
Ciao
You are the MAN!
@DavidGlinski Thanks man.
@lanceyates2
Some of the coolest paintings are on canvas.
@MTHKITEBOARDS LOL No worries man.
@DavidGlinski
Not to step over the master, Ed, have a look at the range of Tamiya paints - the TS series has over 80 colours available. You can "decant" spray paint, allowing you to mix colours then either airbrush it, or have it re-pressurised and re-use it in a can.....Buy a basic airbrush set-up to allow finer detail.
Sorry Ed. I ran a hobby shop and have "played" with paints for over 20 years. I am learning airbrush through your tutorial as well as trial and error....
Thanks for all Ed, Ant
Thanks.
Ed... The rug pad you use is 100% natural rubber? Or what? Please!!!
@tophatpainter
Have you tried the mesh for sheet rock,sheet rock tape.
I do it very precise and perfect.LOL
Actually it is more of a guess. But there have been a couple of times I nailed it.
@MTHKITEBOARDS How would that be air brushing though?
Correct.
Do you use reg black for the base coat or matte black? Then silver then mix your black and grey to make grafit then spray it! Now i have a very important ? I go to hobbie lobby for my paints now i have clear coat do i use just that or do i mix it in my paint for the last coat? Ive done engine covers pearlized blue! And put clear coat on it but im lookin for the shinny look after but its not any ideas what im doin wrong
looking forward to that carbon fiber\skull video
Is the shift precise, or is it just a guessed amount?
thanks
Not really sure what CC fails big time means. Can you explain what it is you dislike about the video.
That is awesome.
@WorksopGimp
Thanks
Cool.
After doing all the air work do you clear over the whole piece? ( like the whole hood)
wat do u do when ur painting a whole hoood or roof....because the clohth is smal is there something bigger u use
Watch the video one more time it explains all of your questions.
Great vids!
how far should i move the mesh for the woven look ...or does it not matter...
hey if you wanted to paint a roof which is a larger surface then the little cloth weave in the video wat tdo u use
Great guy 100%
All of my videos are for sale on my web site fullblownkustoms(dot)com
I would mix up a little bit of black into my silver to spray over the dark. blue.
Rest in peace Mike LaValley
where can you buy these videos you speak of ? your web site is M.I.A ?
have you ever tried this on a white base coat
Thinking about doing this to an AR15 build. I think it would look pretty sweet but, do you think it will work alright with all the fine little cracks and crevaces?
I think the mesh would be hard to work into those tight crevices, if you can get it to work go for it but I think you'd be better with a dip option like mydipkit or cerakote but I'm not sure how expensive either would be just a suggestion though
@trinconi
Sorry I don't know any thing about it.
I guess I am gonna have to break down and do a RC Body.LOL
Yes sir!
Have some fun.
@daddybear101
Thanks man.
Yes you can,does it look different....yes it does. But isn't that what we want is to look different than every one else?
ED HUBBS IS THE MAN!!!!
@clantestino Thanks
@satajet883
Go have some fun with it now.
How much psi should I have my gun at is 40 to much

How would I do this on a motorcycle frame?
non slip rug cushion Thailand Land for sale to buy, please tell me.
@jamesfg49 I would spray black then silver and then candy tangerine if it was me.
