I’m doing this WR Blue before the end of the year, friends have this hood and Compared to stock there isn’t any noticeable weight difference since stock is aluminum.
@@Abandonsoyciety You must know or hang around people that have Ghetto cars or don’t know how to fix a car properly with carbon fiber items or painted hood. I’m not a fan of too much carbon but SOME not all pull it off
That turned out absolutely amazing! I love the look of carbon fiber in small decorative parts, definitely not for an entire hood. This is exactly what I would want done if I had a hood made from carbon fiber.
Wish this dude was near me, I want something similar. Those who think its a sin to paint it, what about exotics? They paint most of their carbon. I like it painted to match the cars paint and still show a little carbon on the vents. Very well done!
Good to see this technique. I have a carbon fiber hood in manufacture and I'm planning on taking that road less traveled and having it painted, my goal being to return it to its original appearance. Based on what I am, planning on, it looks like a pretty simple job as I am not planning on any tricky masking.
Nice job I go much higher grit and lots of water or even a few different lubricants for wet sanding (no advertising lol). You did a GJ, looks like a solid match also!? I personally prefer to clear coat CF 1st and give it that transparent look. Dude just dropped $3k for the CF hood and doesn’t want to show it off ?? To each their own.. keep the videos coming!!
I'm working a a sleeper civic with lots of carbon fiber, but it's not a sleeper when everyone sees it. So I really thank you for this tutorial. At this point though I'm probably just am going to do a high quality wrap
Only custom hoods for my car are carbon fiber. Really didn’t want it despite it’d go with the paint well. Really glad painting it is possible, if a little more nuanced
To the people who want to know why Aussies paint their carbon, its cause its illegal to have carbon on a registered car in Australia. Yes i know its drum. But you technically can't even change your rims without it being inspected and cleared by an engineer in Australia.
you require an inspection if you change the size of the wheels more than 7% of the largest option offered for that model, so say you put 18's on your GD RS impreza that came with 16s this would be fine as the G3 sti came out with an 18 inch wheel
Bout time you get us a video.... (hope all is well in this crazy time) And I hope you gave the idiots a good thrashing for causing all that dust in the hood.
Looks great after the dust screw up, fire those guys! LOL!! One thing you didn't show (maybe it's in the long version) is using wax & greaser remover AFTER you applied the tape with your bare hands. I know you cleaned it before the first spraying but anytime you touch it with bare hands you should do it again.
Hermano buen día te saludo desde México...chingon tu trabajo muy bonito pero tengo una pregunta.....que carro es al que le.pusiste la cubierta ...está muy chingon jajaja saludos!!!. Y excelente trabajo
So as long as everything is done correctly done by a professional used special paint for the carbon hood it should retain it's new color without a problem??? Like I wanna paint my fiber hood to the color of my car nighthawk black but wanted to make sure it would retain its new color & look this clean when done lol
So sick, thanks for sharing! I like the functionality of carbon fiber as a material more than the look...it's okay in small amounts, but kinda kitsch in my eyes.
Is it possible to put a light coat of base just to get the carbon fiber to look a certain color from a distance and when up close you can see the carbon fiber under the paint?
So the panel gaps you couldn't fix? I have seibon on mine and the gaps are extremely annoying. I tried everything. For now I'm just running weather stripping to cover up the gaps
So no primer? Also, how do you handle the ripple in the carbon fiber. This hood isn't that bad because of all the contours, but mine has large flatter areas.
You can wrap just about anything bodywork related and I can't see a problem with carbon fibre, most come with a lacquered finish anyway for protection and will aid I'm adhesion
My carbon fiber hood on my Lexus is torched. How do I bring it back to life? I got these white lines I've been trying to get rid of to get her right. A quick clip of photos of how it looks is on my channel, can you check them out let me know what you think I should do. Thanks.
Love the video. May I suggest that you not have the music playing so loud when you're not talking. Your voice sounds great and then the music comes on and it's twice as loud blasting through the speakers and I keep having to turn it down. Thanks
I'm going to ask you a stupid question that's 2 years late. @6:42 How many times have you picked up one of those Concept Paints tin containers and dropped everywhere?
I know that is your hood so I'm sure your fine with buffing out the scratches after sanding but if I was a customer I would be pissed. That area would be thinner in paint than the rest of the hood, therefore that area would fade quicker too later on.
I know its 4 months ago but does painting carbon fiber significantly increase the weight of the hood and by how much of a difference compared to a stock hood
I want a carbon fiber hood on my truck and want to leave the carbon fiber look. Is carbon fiber glossy, satin, or flat? I'm wanting a flat finish. Also, if I leave it natural, do I need a clear coat finish on it?
Carbon fiber parts are sealed inside clear resin so they are naturally glossy. You can't have a "natural carbon fiber, as carbon fiber parts are made up of multiple sheets of carbon fiber weave layered on top of each other with resin sealing them to each other.
carbon is black, you can colour it with a resin tint. but for white, you would have to use a material that's white like fibre glass , like a surf board.
Looks great but I think I would like more of the carbon fibre on show but each to their own, don't you just hate dust in your clear I seem to be plagued with it no matter what I do, I think I would have flow coated that hood as I dont think it would have taken much longer.
I like the weight savings, but I'm not a big fan of the carbon fiber look. This is perfect for me
I’m doing this WR Blue before the end of the year, friends have this hood and Compared to stock there isn’t any noticeable weight difference since stock is aluminum.
Having your hood a different color then the car looks ghetto af, regardless if it's carbon fiber or not.

Wow that hood looks like it is a perfect paint match...
It matches the exterior paint of the car.....can't tell a difference..
Perfect match!
Wish this dude was near me, I want something similar. Those who think its a sin to paint it, what about exotics? They paint most of their carbon. I like it painted to match the cars paint and still show a little carbon on the vents. Very well done!
Since it's carbon fiber as long as you wrap it correctly it shouldn't be to expensive to ship out to someone who can
Great match mate, nice to see what is involved with dust, bugger!

I was not even looking for this but I got sucked in! Looks absolutely awesome 👌
Free hand measuring is such art! Nice!!!
It looks way better than I thought it would, nice!
Awesome job Dave.

Lol
Unreal indeed just love it,you used hardener in the clear coat yes and only reducer in the base coat.
Yeah that's how 2pack works man.
Very tasteful look of carbon fiber. Great job.
Great job on the hood Dave good see ya
Absolutely AWSOME !!
On the car looked great!
Worth a second viewing 👍
Can I reverse it if I want in the future or ruins the carbon fiber? My question is can I back to carbon look after painted?

I have to disagree with the rim inspection requirement lol, that isn’t true
Wheel poke is not a thing.
you require an inspection if you change the size of the wheels more than 7% of the largest option offered for that model, so say you put 18's on your GD RS impreza that came with 16s this would be fine as the G3 sti came out with an 18 inch wheel
yet the whole car is clearly customized...lol...
Mod laws in Brazil are also pretty damn wack
So satisfying. Thank you.
Brilliant job

Has breathable mask on max level protection and can't cover his wet clear coat from dust.. 👌 nice
So no primer needed?
Could be wrong but don’t you have wait to put ceramic or wax on a freshly painted surface so it has time to cure?
Is adhesion promoter necessary? Isn't that for flexible materials, plastics etc..
So as long as everything is done correctly done by a professional used special paint for the carbon hood it should retain it's new color without a problem??? Any concern with adding a wax so soon after painting? Seen most advice say to wait several weeks before adding any protection
Love the fact yer a suby nut!

Someons buff.. 👌
So no sealer before the basecoat?

Wow
Does anyone know if vinyl wrap will stick to carbon fiber? Or would you need to prep and prime the carbon fiber?
You can wrap just about anything bodywork related and I can't see a problem with carbon fibre, most come with a lacquered finish anyway for protection and will aid I'm adhesion
What is your take on 2k aerosols (Non-Isocyanate Activator) vs traditional 2k
Hi mate I have the same hood and wanted to get it clear coated for UV protection .Its from CT as well .Where are you located mate?

What if your hood is badly scratched up will this process still work?
Have you ever try to restore carbon fiber?
Nice video an yo bro I bought a helmet an want to make it carbon any suggestions bro
❤ From India
How do you now remove the paint from carbon fibre if you want to restore it back?
What machine did you use to sand off the layer of clear coat??
베리굿굿굿!!!!

Any chance you give us lil review of different compounds and polishes you have used? Awesome content, keep up great work and greetings from Finland.
If a person is making their own carbon fiber, would it be better to mix paint into the resin or just paint it afterwards like you did?
you can tint the resin, but not mix actual paint into it.
why have dust, and polish againe , cant not contral in the first painting time ?
I want that buffing small tool. Lart number pleass

👊👍️
If I just want to prep the CF hood for paint by hand what grit sand paper should I use?
I saw that you used 800 but just wanted to see if maybe you would recommend another grit after that
no idea why people like carbon hoods against whatever paint. the carbon insert looks ten times better
Carbon hoods are more about weight reduction. That hood weights about 1/4 of the OEM hood.
I just want to ask doesn't the weight saving thing of carbon fober dies with that weight of paint
Possibly adds 250grams. But also it’s not going on a race car.
I know its 4 months ago but does painting carbon fiber significantly increase the weight of the hood and by how much of a difference compared to a stock hood
By about 200grams maybe.
Is the any way possible to paint a carbon bonnet (hood) a factory color but if you look closely at the paint job you can see a slight carbon weave?
no, closest i think would be a tinted clear.
carbon fiber and no hood pins ?
Interesting, so you are not using any primer, just an adhesion promoter directly on the carbon ?
Exactly right. The adhesion promoter is clear so it will reveal the carbon weave. Also just saw this car again 2 days ago hood still looks mint.
👍
So you dident say if your painting over clear coat or painting on resin. there is a big difference in prep.
Link for this hood
Is the carbon fibre ruined after this or can it be reverted back ?
The only way to get it back is to sand the paint off and clear coat it. Can be done but a lot of work.
How much do you charge for this?
OH GOD 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
has anyone done white carbon fiber i cant find any videos
carbon is black, you can colour it with a resin tint. but for white, you would have to use a material that's white like fibre glass , like a surf board.

Great video Dave. But you gotta get some better music.
Choices are unfortunately limited being RUclips removes music if it's not royalty free.
Did you weight the hood before painting it? Cause painting it you diminish it’s weight saving purpose.
Does the subaru look like a dedicated track car to you ?
I just called a reputable paint shop in Austin and was told they don't paint CF.. what's up with that?
They probably dont know the process and think its more complicated than it is.
Step one: you dont.
hi you forget to put water on the floor
Why are all the awesome auto dudes in another country or state :`(
Why would you want to paint a carbon fiber hood in the first place? Might as well get a fiberglass one instead
fibreglass hood can be way heavier
Lightweight and undercover 👍
What type of wheels on the subaru sti? What are the size spec?
go ask the car owner on his Instagram, the link is on when the end product is being shown
Jesus Crapp i hope you fired them 😂 Mate
I'd be so ticked off! Employees at a paint and body shop should know better than to do anything that stirs up dust 🤦🏼♂️
Agreed, and I applaud him for correcting it. I think most shops would just try and pass it off to the customer.
If they weren't at least, obviously oblivious to their surroundings I'd have them sand the dust out for you.
Panels need blending mate.
Great job. but why?... =__=
CF is ugly?
that hood alone cost more than my car. sad.
same cus i dont have a car
Was looking better in carbon fiber though...🙄
except for it looking like carbon fiber, which is hideous
Why dont you painted it with a thin layer, so The Carbon is wisible in The color
not his car I suppose
I thought that too. Have the subtle look of CF just visible through a blue glaze.
Carbon fiber is so ugly lol. Like its great that its light yes, but there exists this magical invention called "paint" 🤣
