I'm Hayden Hillier-Smith, on this channel I will break down what makes good editing...pulling back the curtain on how editors make the choices to keep YOU, THE AUDIENCE engaged. This includes showcasing the creative choices I have made.
And exploring the editorial process for other RUclips channels in how they have optimised their content. I’m even going to take you through my journey where I experiment on how I can become a better editor and learn through my experiences.
Whatever it is that I do on this channel, I hope you can learn something and discover your own ability on being a content creator yourself. - Развлечения

Beautiful work ❤️
As a novice who edits his own videos, I have this rule wherein I allow myself 2 "sleeps" before I press "publish" or "send" on my editorial type videos. Just something about waking up even after a nap allows me to re-assess my supposed masterpiece and helps me refine a lot from the first draft.
2 sleeps is definitely my minimum as well!

This is great advice. I'm new to RUclips but I've been writing my entire life and I follow this rule when possible. You always see things more clearly after a break. I call it pre-crastinating - I get the work done in advance then wait until the urgency of the deadline to make final tweaks.

Fun fact, this video edit was my second draft.
I've looked back at it a few hours later and there's so much I want to improve on.
I still hate my English teacher though.
If may ask, why didn't you add footsteps to the roommates running by?
@@rne1223 I think that would have been cool too
WHAT IS YOUR OUTRO SONG
Forgive the newbie question although I've been editing quite awhile. I've never used stock footage, where do you get yours?
I absolutely enjoyed your video! I thought I saw a way to make the end a bit snappier, so decided to try it out. I'm really curious to see what you think about it, if it were options that you tried and did not go with (and why then) or maybe implemented in your third (or fourth) edit!

This is a note for the viewers:
Not always cutting those empty spots is something you should do, in this context it was, but pacing and space to breathe are important in other contexts

I'm actually a tuition teacher
When I saw some Mr beast videos and pewdiepie videos I saw a correlation of jump cuts which I didn't know was a thing went to tik tok Chinese tik tok looked at some jurassic park scenes and the same thing momentum and perfect cuts.
I applied the same concept on my students to keep them interested in learning. The reason some teachers are boring because they emphasise on something too long where the kid lost interest in that topic or chapter
Thank you RUclips for opening my eyes.

Great point. They're saying keep editing. Bruh, I have half a day on this first edit. Lol
I honestly think it can depend on the video too.
I find your work flow so interesting and appreciate the time you spent explaining your steps toward making the final result much more engaging. Keep up the good work man!
You post so much high quality content. I’m constantly taking notes from you! Thank you for showing so much of the detail oriented side of things. One of my favorite channels on YT
And...that's also how to make an extra promotion for something :) Great idea
I can really appreciate the info you put out and how you displayed it! You're a talented filmmaker. It always amazes me seeing youtubers create films comparable to professional films

Great editing on this editing video. Good luck with the production. 😊
Honestly the difference between those both editing clips were very noticeable and better. Well done brother you taught me more about editing and you have earned yourself a new sub. Happy New Years everyone!!!!
Loved the video. It’s something that us as editors need to hear that we can always improve our work!
Great video Hayden
This was a good way to incorporate fun yet informative; great insights. Definitely can watch a Playlist of these
This was really cool. I love how you show us your inner thought process. THANK YOU.
Those illustrations make the trailer feel cheap, you're a great editor, but this aint it.
Yea
But you get the idea...
@@Realdanielmiguel The trailer's idea, or the video's? Either way could've maintained a more cohesive tone

That's what I was thinking exactly, though I know this was old so I was like "damn he improved and this isn't even a year old."
You're a goddam creative genius. Truly built to be a story teller. Love these breakdowns thank uuu
I absolutely LOVE how you changed the trailer and explained everything!! I love editing so much and recently I've been re- editing my videos before just posting up the first draft. It's so important! Just a little tip. Instead of making your sound design mono, you can use paning to give it a little bit more depth.
I just watched this video with my old lady. She doesn't even video edit, and yet she enjoyed the hell out of it. Solid work, sir.

This is a really good trailer! Only thing that I didn't like too much was the use of stock illustrations in the intro. It looks more like a powerpoint presentation rather than a trailer, other than that, you are solid! Good job
This is a great reminder. Thanks for encouraging us to do a second draft. It makes us be more creative. I really like that.

Great vid gave me new perspective on editing videos! sound effects really will level up the scene. Thanks!
Loved the cuts on the second version! Nice tips for improving our projects. Let's go for second drafts in 2022
1 big mistake: RUclips compression will KILL ANY CLIP WITH CONFETTI so you have to like watch the video in 8k on a 2k screen just because of the compression thing yes we all hate it
Resolution won't change anything related to compression. You can watch the clip at 8k but it'll still be compressed
If actually tried waiting g a few days and then going over the edit again beforehand it worked because it was much better
Wow this is exactly what I needed to understand what motivates clips and camera movements and such. New sub.
This really informs creators a lot about the importance of value in every moment

What service do you use to to find music and stock footage? I always love the diff music you use in your edits 👌💯
epidemic is good for music and story blocks is good for stock footage. I hope that helps. IF you dont mind, I just made a few vlogs, it's my few and I put a lot of time into it. It's only 3 minutes of your entire day to watch and it'll make mine! (sorry to self promote btw but I have no clue how else to get recognized)

You earned the sub brother! thanks for consistently presenting useful info!
Great information. Really had fun watching this.
Hayden. What’s your experience with premier pro? Do you recommend final cut or premiere pro?
It depends if you have a PC or Mac. If you have a PC you can't get final cut pro. But a Mac can run both. However, since a Mac and final cut are both produced by Apple, final cut has a much faster rendering rate. I hope that helps. I just made a few vlogs, it's my few and I put a lot of time into it. It's only 3 minutes of your entire day to watch and it'll make mine! (sorry to self promote btw but I have no clue how else to get recognized)
