I started smoking since my teenage, got addicted to cigarettes. Spent my whole life fighting cigarettes addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. Not until my son recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

Congrats! I'm really happy for you that your wife decided to help you. I always admire those who beat their addiction. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.

      @ Angel Flower
I respect what's appears to be a desire to not have smokers feel alienated or ostracized but inhaling substances into your lungs that are known to be physically harmful, even if a few times a week, should not be minimized by comparing it to internet or phone excesses. Surely any excess is not good but please don't minimize this deadly habit by comparing to the bad habit of overuse of electronics. Mentioning food is also not a good "comparison" since we need it to live (the dependence comes from processed foods and food-like substances, not real food). Nobody needs nicotine. It is solely a deadly pleasure. Thus Pastor John's excellent response.

I’m listening to this while smoking a cigarette…
I’m a pretty new convert about 2 or 3 years. I am absolutely convicted by the Holy Spirit to quit. I quit nicotine in general (on my own strength) for 2 or 3 months but fell back into the addiction to nicotine. I say all this with 2 disposable vapes in my pocket and a cigarette in hand. I am absolutely crushed by my hypocrisy. my biggest prayer is that God makes me holy as he is holy, and that he makes to delight in his word all things godly and righteous that I lead my family and minister to them rightly, as well as influencing others around me. Pray for me, feel free to reply and give me counsel. Thank you

painful-out, almost like trying to walk out of a thorn bush maze. but Just know the Lord is patient and will continue to press upon you about it until he draws you to actually throw it away. upgrade to smoking a pipe no more than 3 times a week. you do not inhale pipes or cigars. I was heavily addicted to dipping tobacco, and then i quit by the grace of God for 30 days. I got a pipe, and now only smoke occasionally. My rule is, no more than 1 pipe a day, no more than 2 days in a row. I have not gotten addicted yet, i dont have withdrawals, and i thank God for my relaxing pipe which helps me to enjoy his creations, reflect on his glory, love, and righteousness. Look up Christian liberty that paul describes in the bible, read mark 7:14-16 on what defiles a man does not come from outside, but from his heart. The scripture about your body being a temple is widely misrepresented. Go read the context around it. It is talking about sexual immorality. Not about what goes into your mouth. Do not let these people fool you into thinking they are not sinners, we all sin, we all struggle with different things. But so is cheeseburgers, sedentary lifestyles, cokes, etc etc.. Does God say you can't breathe air because you live in an area that has bad air quality? What if you are poor and can only afford fast food? Jesus did not die on the cross because we are perfect, because we are holy, or because we can change on our own will and strength.. no no no.. he died because we are helpless, unholy, weak, and lost. Jesus does not make us meet him way up in his holiness, he comes down to us where we are at, and lifts us up. Cigarette smoking is deadly, yes. But is an occasional pipe deadly? not according to my research. You can still enjoy things that God has given us, but do it in a way that does not consume you. Continue to repent for your addiction, have faith in our lord and saviour, pray, and worship and God will give you the strength and guidance. God has delivered me from porn, masturbation, alcohol, and gaming addictions. It doesn't mean i dont slip up from time to time, but they no longer have their hold on me like they once did. Jesus broke those chains. When it comes to smoking, dont have a love for the addiction, instead, try to find a love for tobacco's to enjoy here and there with a pipe or cigar. Tobacco is like beer, coffee, or steak to me. You can fall victim to gluttony in all these things, but they are here for our enjoyment. This is Christian liberty, my friend. Always remember, the fruit of the spirit is Joy, Peace, and Righteousness. Do not take on the weight of your sin and the weight of the world. Give it to Jesus, and he will set you free.
PS. remember that our Liberties should not cause our brothers or sisters to fall. If you tempt a weak brother or sister, you are sinning against the body of christ. My post here is not to make an excuse for smoking, but to shine a light on how God has worked in me and to offer a more long term solution. The unfortunate truth is that Nicotine rewires our brain and will always be a weed. I feel like controlled pipe smoking has helped me suffocate the weed that is nicotine and instead focus on the enjoyment of God's gifts.

More or less the same story with me. I was recently saved. Quit alcohol, weed and porn completely and was healed of my depression, worries and worldly wants but for some reason smoking nicotine seems to be the one habit that stayed with me. I feel that there's no way that it isn't a sin due to it being so harmful to myself and people around me and I feel like a hypocrite. I say to myself that I'm gonna quit but at the same time I'm not really taking any steps on quitting and sometimes I even try to justify in my head that maybe it isn't a sin because smoking is not mentioned in the bible and because my nicotine addiction wasn't healed with all my other bad habits. This is of course complete nonsense.

@@georgiosgiannoukas3319 same situation as me man. Keep your head up. Im not too sure nicotine or tobacco is a sin unless you put it before God. I see it like coffee. People that dont understand tobacco see it as the worst thing in the world due to all the anti-tobacco propaganda. I think pipes/cigars are vastly more healthy than cigs, and even dipping tobacco is more healthy than all because there is no combustion. Look up the recent studies on dip. There is no significant increase in cancer risks. Similarly with pipes and cigars, cancer risk is higher than dip but way way lower than cigarettes, but those reports are for heavy use. 4-5 pipes a week or 3-4 cigars a week is considered on the low end and minimal risks. I personally use once a day, but im being convicted to not use it so frequently.

My take is that you are justifying your smoking because you like your sin, sister.
I'm a woman around your age and was a smoker for 30 years, so I can talk from personal experience. I was convicted to quit smoking because the MESSAGE that it sends, as a Christian, is that 1) I love my sin more than I love God and following His commands or 2) God is not powerful enough to set me free from my bondage. Neither of these is acceptable for a Child of God. Because the truth is, sister, addiction is a bondage that makes us slaves to something that is bad for us (slaves = if you have ever walked or driven for hours or got out in the cold of winter just to get a pack of cigarettes, you know exactly what I'm talking about).
It's not about having a pure heart, it's about being willing to crucify the flesh in order to obey God. Are you willing to do that or not? Because His commands say "You shall not commit murder" and as Christians, we also shall honor Him. You are the apple of His eye, and His beloved Daughter, by smoking something that slowly but surely kills you, you are murdering your own self, and you are also NOT honoring the fresh, clean pair of lungs that He gave you, and are NOT honoring the gift of life He gave you also.
Either admit that you like your sin, and are not willing to give it up, even for God. Or ask for His help to quit, and lean on Him to stop smoking. I did the latter, and I am now a happy non-smoker! I could not smoke anymore even if I wanted to: the Lord in His mercy removed the very pleasure of smoking from my mouth, and the last time I tried to have a puff, it tasted so horrible that hell would have to freeze over before I become a smoker again (I can't even stand the smell of them now).

Once you got through 48 hours, it will be easy. The most difficult stage is the 42-48th hour from the last smoke. Stop altogether at one go, or don't even try stopping at all. Gradual quitting is a lie. Try my method (just persevere for 48 hours).
"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be DOMINATED by anything."

You have to HATE it before you can discard it. You have to hate everything about it - what it does to you, your body, your environment, your family and friends, You have to realize how trivial and meaningless it is - that it has no value. How it wastes your time, money, and consciousness. How it controls you. How it makes you weak, and exploits your weakness. How it uses and destroys you. Right now you only want to quit like some people want to learn how to play the guitar. It seems like a good idea, but you are not mentally committed as quitting is the only thing that matters. Saying you are addicted is an excuse. Your body is still in control of your mind, and your mind is afraid of taking control of your body.

  • @BloodCovenant

As Spurgeon said, he smoked cigars to the glory of God! As a former smoker for over 40 years, it was vaping that got me off cigarettes. This December will be one year of not smoking cigarettes. So let's discuss vaping. I used vaping to quit cigarettes. Over time I lowered the amount of nicotine in my vape juice to ZERO. So, I used vaping to ALSO get over nicotine addiction. I haven't had nicotine in the juice mix for just over three months now. I still vape around the house with no nicotine. I like the flavors and experience. Is there any addiction left in me? Nope.
I think the important thing to look at is the scriptures that have to do with faith or lack thereof. Romans 14:20-23 paraphrased. (1) If you are condemned in your heart about the matter, you are not doing it in faith. Therefore it is sin. (this goes for anything) (2) If you know what you are doing can cause another person to stumble, keep it to yourself and keep your mouth shut about it. I know that this sounds hypocritical, but that is what the scripture says, and obeying scripture is not hypocritical. (3) Blessed is the person who does not condemn themselves in what they approve.
Did I think cigarettes would kill me? Yes. They killed my dad (lung cancer) and chewing tobacco gave my step day throat cancer. Did I believe God wanted me to quit smoking, yes? Did my heart condemn me over smoking cigarettes? Yes. So all the boxes were checked for the sin factor. However, the addiction factor prevented me from doing what I should and caused me to do what I hated (Romans 7:15). So I praise God for vaping.
One point to clear up that the video got wrong. Nicotine does not cause cancer. It does cause ADDICTION. However, other than addiction there are no other health risks that I am aware of. I could be wrong but I've done tons of reading on the subject. Tar and other ingredients that cigarette manufacturers put in the product, that is what causes cancer. It is not nicotine. Yes, when a blow torch is put in front of the face, smokers will lay down the cigarettes. As soon as the blow torch is gone, they will pick them right back up or when the blow torch flame lowers, they will use it to light a cigarette. That is because of ADDICTION.
That is all I have to say on the subject.

    • @kaybones3529
      @kaybones3529 3 года назад +2

I also used vaping to transition away from smoking, because the Lord convicted me of smoking cigarettes. Multiple times I tried to quit vaping but would always pick it up again. However, my conviction about vaping has remained in regards to its addictive quality and how much I value its presence over that of the Lord’s. He convicted me not to allow it to become an idol unto me, so in order to obey this, I often remind myself to take breaks from it and understand that when I have to live without it, that’s fine. He also led me to an understanding of the difference because the importance of my heart vs the importance of my actions. He led me to Titus 1:15, and lessons from Paul. Titus 1:15 says, “To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled, nothing is pure.” I realized that when I do everything unto the Lord and with thanksgiving, whether I vape or not is of little significance. My heart condition is what He cares about. The Lord showed Peter, what I believe to be, the same point. It doesn’t matter what you eat; everything can be consumed with thanksgiving unto the Lord, and a clean conscience. Also, nothing can separate us from the love of God. I haven’t been convicted of vaping in any other sense, as to causing people around me to stumble, or otherwise. In my personal relationship to Jesus, at this point there are other, more important(?) things we are working through and becoming closer in. I believe this is how He works in all of us. If you are so convicted of smoking or swearing or other behaviors, that’s what He’s doing in YOU, and not necessarily what someone else needs to work through. I struggled my way through convictions about smoking, vaping, eating McDonalds, and many other things. To this day, I’m convinced God loves me and His Son’s perfect blood has washed me clean. No amount of goodness or righteousness of my own travail can make me look better than pure white through His blood. He works in my heart to cleanse me continually of selfishness, bitterness, self-pity, and so on, and those are the things I feel He is leading me to work through. HIS righteousness, not my own.

I was born in 1962 and both parents smoked and it was socially acceptable at the time, I always knew I was going to be a smoker. I smoked for 40 years until I was in a house fire, not related. I tried to quit many times but was not able to after the fire I started vaping at the lowest level of nicotine. I stopped smoking cigarettes immediately. My doctor said my lungs were in excellent condition and that the FDA has recently changed its stand on vaping.
The last thing I need is to have you condemn me for being not concerned about other people or that I have a sinful pleasure that is an idol. The time of my death has already been noted by the Lord there is nothing I can do to change that time. God knows when he is going to take me and my vaping isn’t speeding up Gods time frame.
If I were to listen to you, I suppose I could name just about any random thing and you would tell me how it was sinful. I was raised Southern Baptist and our Pastor did the same thing, he placed sin on anything we students would mention, he was totally dedicated to find the sin in everything and everyone. Every morning in school, his Baptist school, we would have to have all the girls kneel and have their skirts measured from the ground and the boys had to have their hair measured above their collar and ears. This upbringing was extremely strict, it did give me a firm foundation and I have always since I was 2 years old had a conscious walk with God. That pastor by the way, ended up being caught for having sexual misconduct with a number of the wives of parishioners that were seeking out marriage counseling from him.
Certainly I could stop using nicotine in my vape, but I would still vape, I like the process and it comforts me, and it is between me and God, not anyone else. The same thing can be found in drinking caffeinated drinks, or sugar, or fats, or junk food, the air we breathe is full of chemicals, and can be dangerous depending where you live, as a matter of fact, living your life is deadly, everything leads to death with the body, but I do not seek renewal of my body but a renewal of my spirit and my soul. When the Lord returns I will be given a new body, and you will find me among those that are born again, and you know what, I’ll probably smoke in heaven as well, if I ask God for the permission to do so and he grants it to me, because as I have said prior, it is between me and God, it’s none of your concern to judge me or warn me or give me a guilt trip on how I’m destroying that which is holy to God.
Because of this video I have decided to no longer subscribe to your channel and you can have that as your glory.

I have always hated the smell of tobacco smoke. My dad quit smoking for health reasons, my mother quit later, I think partly out of concern for her children. Myself and my older brother and sister never smoked. I always knew I would never be a smoker - I hated it wherever I encountered it. I am a HUGE fan. John, you are my favorite minister aside from my own and Paul. But it isn't nicotine that is doing harm to the body. Nicotine is just a stimulant. Same as caffeine. Closely related. In the case of cancer, it's the tar and other carcinogens in the products that cause the issue. Scripture is pretty clear about sin against thine own body... the only "sin" against the body is sexual immorality. Of course, in 1 corinthians, Paul talks alot about the existence of behaviours and decisions that do not glorify the kingdom or build up the body but that also do not constitute a breach of the law... which is necessary for "sin".

A social event. In my opinion if its not relied upon or if done every so blue moon its not a bad thing. We cant forget not to be overly righteous in our acts of zeal.

I know that his is an older video. Nicotine in its pure form is not harmful and actually is helpful for the mind. Smoking it seems to be the real issue. Cigarettes more so than cigars. I also do not love his definition for sin when speaking about the subject. His definition would also include eating all matter of candy EVER. OR sugar for that matter. Sugar is enjoyable but more addictive than COKE. It's also proven to be detrimental to your health by over dosing your insulin, increasing prolactin (which makes you lazy), and the spike in insulin speeds up the aging process and age related disease onset. Shouldn't this conversation be a heart decision?

@@freedomfighter4990 you haven't done any research either. You don't inhale cigars or pipe. According to studies conducted by the FDA there is no significant cancer risk increase from smoking 1-2 cigars a day. They also aren't inherently addictive. There's a reason why notable theologians such as Tolkien, Sproul, Lewis, Spurgeon etc encouraged smoking cigars or pipe

I suck at everything I watch porn and smoke cigars and have problems with alcohol. And I call myself and a Christian I feel like a hypocrite. I am having problems balancing between gods grace and gods judgement. I know he doesn't judge his children. But I feel like I am doing a lousy job of being a Christian. Where does gods judgement reign and gods grace end? I feel like they are blurred together. There is so much grey in Christian world I just want it to be black and white. I know we saved by grace not of works. But where does that grace end, and you become that dog eating it's own vomit or the pig in the mud? I so tired of trying to figure this out. I wish I could do better as a Christian but evil is still with me. Do we go by Paul and just say what a wretched man I am. I am tired of fighting if people say being a Christian is easy then you are in the wrong group.

Focus on the "be not deceived, God is not mocked" (Galatians 6:7) when trying to balance grace and judgment. These things you discuss as living in will come out on the judgment side, else the Bible is not true.

If God’s grace ended for His children, then everything Christ did on the cross was for nothing. If one is truly saved, then grace will always abound. Friend, come boldly to the foot of the cross and receive forgiveness. Confess your sins and He is faithful to forgive them. Whoever is saying that being a Christian is easy, simply is not telling the truth. Sure being a Christian is hard, but His yoke is easy. Let me state that perfectionism is not obtainable, nor ever will be in this life. That’s intended for our glorified state after this life. Wretched man that I am? Yes, but thanks be to Jesus Christ. We have the power of the Holy Spirit to fight and mortify sin now. No longer are we slaves to sin, but slaves of righteousness. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Though we never will be cured from the presence of sin in this life, nonetheless, the cure has begun. So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. You have to persevere friend, rely on the Spirit to help you.

wow JP is so off base once again and has no idea what he's talking about but does so as though he's teaching the book of Romans. Nicotine has numerous health benefits including defending against Alzheimer's and not all delivery systems are the same - Huberman has a several hour podcast that goes deep into this. Nicorette gum is quite safe, for example.

I'm gonna be honest with you brother because I've struggled with A LOT of these things. Having said that - no one uses smokeless nicotine like the gum, lozenges, pouches, etc for the "health benefits" or because it is a "nootropic". People use nicotine because of the pleasurable effects it has, and thats where the sin really lies - it becomes a lust of the flesh. And yes, the same thing goes for caffeine. They quite literally become a lust of the flesh. You can make a case for moderation, but true moderation is being able to have it one day, and then go without it for weeks without really thinking about it. Moderation is not using a small amount daily, because you will still struggle to quit using completely

The Most High Yahuah created all things including the tobacco, marijuana plant, poppy plant, coca plant etc. No man can claim creating these things hence forth the ONLY person to listen to pertaining this issue is the creator Himself, Not some scientist and doctors who can lie.. in Genesis 1:27, Yah have instruction for all herbs to be eaten, all the green herb. Tobacco and marijuana are a part of those categorised under that sub division of plants are they not. If we agree, which we should, who made it so that we should even consume those plants and herbs that way if not the one who have them to us for food. Where in the bible does it directly say that people shouldn't smoke because it affects their health? How can we as believers in Yahusha Hamashiak, be led astray by such concept when He himself said "NOTHING that enters your body through the mouth can defile you accept that which proceeds from the heart" Matthew 15. As far as am concerned, when smoking, you use your mouth.. The Messiah said NOTHING.. that includes cigarettes and all things that enter that enter the body through the mouth. He didn't say except "for tobacco and THC". BE advised that when the church condemns smoking, she is not doing it to honour her husband the Messiah coz Messiah never condemned such. He came "eating and drinking" and people called him a drunk and wine bidder. People will be standing on what the doctors of this world say which unfortunately in this case goes against the Bible. Paul further states in Colossians 2 "Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. Those teachings about smoking and alcohol being bad are not teachings from Yah but of men.. think about it, why would He give us the fruit of the vine and knowledge to make wine if He doesn't want people to drink? Why would he create tobacco if He didn't want people to smoke it. Granted He strongly speaks against DRUNKENNESS but are you to judge what amount a particular person is to take to maintain sobriety more than the person partaking. Wouldn't it be wise for the one who partake to know their limits.. knowing your limits does not mean don't partake and Yah said the things that defile a man are evils of the heart and a seared conscience.. Yah's creation is perfect and is used just as is it supposed to be used.. trust if people where not supposed to smoke tobacco or marijuana we wouldn't.. just as we know not to eat poison ivy e.t.c
