Low and Fast FPV - Angry bystander throws rocks at plane, calls police

  • Apparently I flew my CTH Deep Reaper too close to this guy's house and he called the police on us. It turns out he had been throwing rocks at my plane during a couple of passes before we finally noticed him. But, we didn't know he had been doing that until I got home and looked at the HD video. I didn't see him in the flight-camera until my spotter pointed him out (it's hard to see him here in the onboard HD footage unless you know when/where to look). On a couple of the passes over the street in front of his driveway, you can see him throwing rocks at my plane! (5:50, 7:00) I think he tried to hit it with rope too (9:43). He claimed I was intentionally buzzing him and his property, when I was staying over the street, and I only cut across the corner of his property on the last pass right after he stepped out into the street in an attempt to bring down my plane, which was the pass that we finally noticed him.
    After that pass, he went back inside and came back out, walking towards us on top of the hill (with a baseball bat) and told us he was going to call the police. At this point I was still flying, being careful to avoid him. He is yelling at us, we tried to calmly reason with him but he was fuming and wouldn't listen to us. He went back to his house to call the cops, so we called them first to let them know there was an angry homeowner with a bat. When the officer arrived, he sided with us, but we apologized anyway. This was about the time that the homeowner finally realized there was a camera onboard the airplane and had caught everything. When the officer asked about the bat, the homeowner claimed it was a walking stick! After calming him down, the officer asked for a ride in the goggles, so we happily obliged. We offered goggles to the homeowner as well, but he refused and stormed off. We continued to fly, but much further away from the house.
    We had permission to fly here from the company that owns the empty lots, and had flown here many, many times before without incident. He apparently had never seen us before, and the only reason he saw us this time is because he had been standing in his garage with the door open. Otherwise, he could not have heard the airplane from inside.
    Use your head people, this is an ELECTRIC airplane, it's FOAM and it's a PUSHER prop!

    I have to say as a man of 74 years who was birthed in "balsa wood...rubber bands and diesel engine model aircraft."....that was very exciting.But ,unfortunately we live in a world where most people dont have our love of this kind of technology ...and there are Rules that protect our "safety" and property. Of course , if I had been the owner of the house I would probably have enjoyed the sight ( maybe). All I can say is stay at a reasonable height over roads and buildings and be "mindful" of the unexspected.All this technology was science fiction back when!

    As a drone pilot myself, you took far too many risks with other people's property than I would ever take. It doesn't matter what your plane is made from, if it hits anything at speed, it will do some damage. There are people out there that want to kill our hobby, and they don't need rocks or baseball bats to do it. It's footage like this!

      +Cameron Jackson please tell me how I've managed to hit my own car window and didn't do any damage then? ruclips.net/video/WvBkAco5Cqs/видео.html

      Car windows are tough, ever see one of those cop videos where the cop tries to break a window by hitting it with a baton a dozen times before it breaks? A human being takes a lot less energy to injure. If you're close enough for someone to throw rocks at your plane, you're too f**king close!! You're lucky your neighbors are only armed with rocks. Where I fly, my neighbors are armed with shotguns!

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  8 лет назад

      ah, but did you notice he approached the plane on his own volition? why is it always the plane/pilot's fault? it was there first.

    • @CamManTheWise
      @CamManTheWise 8 лет назад +5

      It doesn't matter who is right or wrong. The bottom line is, I want to keep flying my drone and so do you. But right now the FAA is drafting new laws that are going to affect both of us. As part of that process, they are going to seek public input. Now is not the best time to be agitating our neighbors.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  8 лет назад +4

      did you see the date of the video? in July 2013, the FAA was issuing its first certificates for commercial use, and hobby aircraft weren't even a blip on their collective radar. Not gonna censor this video now, simply because the aviation landscape has changed a little.

    You can't understand why someone would be pissed off by you constantly flying over their property with a loud, annoying, quadcopter? Unlike traditional radio controlled flight, fpv allows you to set up somewhere where a complainant has no means to ask you to fly elsewhere, be it because he has a sleeping baby or whatever.
    If there was someone blatting up and down the road past his house on a motorbike, it'd be exactly the same thing.
    Your ignorance to a basic human right of discussion with people that would clearly be irritated is what will kill this great hobby.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +13

      i understand it perfectly, what I dont understand is why he thought it was ok to throw rocks and come over with a bat instead of acting like a civilized human being and simply talking to us if it was bothering him. I would have gladly flew elsewhere but no he had to call the police who sided with us. but o already know it doesn't REALLY bother him because he can't hear it from inside his house. the only reason he even knew it was there is because he was in his garage with the door open. you're an idiot.

    • @livinagoodlife
      @livinagoodlife 9 лет назад +13

      You showed a clear lack of respect by constantly flying over his property.
      Name-calling further shows your attitude towards other people and complete immaturity.

      I only flew over his property one time. which I already admitted was wrong, multiple times. I just get tired of repeating myself, thats all.

    • @livinagoodlife
      @livinagoodlife 9 лет назад +12

      You want to get technical about what his boundary line is to defend your actions? You flew over that corner more than once. But even so, law aside, it's disrespectful. You could circle his property constantly and say that it's perfectly legal, it wouldn't make you any less of an ass.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +9

      just setting the record straight, guys like you are the ones that start rumors and blow things out of proportion, and think they know more about the situation than the guy that was actually there. you are the definition of "armchair expert."
      I've flown around there many times and not a peep from this guy, according to him it was the first time he had known we were even there. so thats proof that it doesn't actually bother him, at least when he is indoors. he only saw it this time because he was in his garage with the door open, and his explanation as to why he was upset was that he perceived it as "dangerous," because he thought we were flying this way without a camera. he only realized the cam was there after the police officer showed up.
      he throws rocks and comes over with a bat, and I'm the ass? lol. all he had to do was politely ask that we fly further away, I would have gladly obliged. no rocks/bat/cops necessary. he is the ass for not using his brain a bit more. same goes for you. and now you're the one name calling.

    I am a UAV person, and based on what I seen. You can't take an aircraft and buzz people or ones property, from what I saw you were just trying to screw and piss off the person. They should have come after you with a bat and teach you some etiquette, you are the people that screws it up for us, and have to register because of shit like this.

    Here's me as a homeowner. You have all that open space, yet you buzz the only house in 5 miles. Yeah, I'd be pissed off too.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад

      Th3uNn3rV3d This is the fundamental disagreement. I don't see it as buzzing his house.

    • @th3unn3rv3d3
      @th3unn3rv3d3 9 лет назад

      secretspy711 Let me put it another way. If some guy was racing his car up and down the street, most of the time right in front of your house, you'd get pissed... rightfully so.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад

      Th3uNn3rV3d perhaps. But all in all, I wasn't really going that fast (about the speed that a car would be driving normally), nor would I call this "most of the time." I certainly wouldn't throw rocks at a car even if it were racing up and down the street obnoxiously.

      *If the uploader* were mowing the yard next door, approaching the property line every 4-5 minutes on each pass, you couldn't justify throwing rocks or wielding a baseball bat. Now imagine it's a weed eater instead of a lawn mower. Now cut the weed eater engine in half and that's the menace this homeowner is worked up about.

    • @th3unn3rv3d3
      @th3unn3rv3d3 9 лет назад

      Vaff angool Lawn maintenance is justifiable and you know the homeowner would be reasonable about it. But the dude has no neighbors. How about this. Don't fly near someones property. Problem solved.

  • @johnbarry8185
    @johnbarry8185 9 лет назад +11

    To all of the people that think you only own the HOUSE that sits on your property, YOU ARE WRONG!!! The owner owns 100 feet of airspace. People are looking at FAA regs, but they need to look into the Real Estate laws. Just fly 101 feet above his property, or not at all. It seems that with all of the unimproved land at your vicinity, you didn't need to fly close to houses, cars or the work crew at the end of the street.
    As far as using the roadway, those are for wheeled vehicles only...and even if aircraft were allowed, there ARE speed limits. I'm sure that you were going over the 25 or 30 mph that is typically the speed limit on residential neighborhood streets.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +5

      Instead of spreading hearsay, please cite the specific real estate regulation you are referring to, with a link so that everyone here may read it for themselves. I've never heard of such a law. Even if that were true, I was never below 100 feet above his property, with the one exception where I cut the corner at 9:45, which I already admitted I should not have done out of courtesy. Although I maintain it was not illegal to do so. At all other times, I was outside his property line, and above the street or above other property for which I had permission. Prior to the corner cut, he had thrown rocks 2 or 3 times and tried to hit my plane with a bat.
      Take a closer look at the "work crew," and you will see that there's nobody there! Also, the jeep parked on the straight was my own, and the occupants of the other house (where red Ford Focus ST is parked) are cool with us flying there. Even if I were to hit one of the PARKED work vehicles, it wouldn't do any damage. (Trust me, I've actually hit my own Jeep with a heavier plane of denser foam and sharper frontal area, not even a scratch to the vehicle!)
      To address your "wheeled vehicles only" and speed limits comment... are you saying that every kid that plays with an RC car in the street is breaking multiple laws? (speed limit, driving without a license, reckless driving, exhibition of speed, and probably others?) Or how about a pogo stick, is that not "street legal" either? Go ahead and arrest all the little children you grinch.

    • @georgepurdy6493
      @georgepurdy6493 9 лет назад +5

      secretspy711
      I'm glad you stepped in with those "road rules"!
      John Barry? Dude those are for vehicles NOT aircraft! Take note at Secrets reply about children and their RC cars and if it's NOT on the ground then you know crap about FAA rules concerning experimental and toy aircraft!
      Go read rules for PPGs and other recreational flying.
      Nothing in them says no flying over homes or streets just interstate highways and heavily populated areas which that ain't or crowds!
      FYI: faa. org will answer all your flying questions so you do not look like the idiot you do above! This link (.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=81244) I'll give you as you do not appear to have the smarts to look needed info up before opening mouth and inserting foot.

      @carsonvogt3297 8 лет назад

      +Shaun Savoury No, I'd say over his property, not as you pointed out, around in front etc. I'm pretty sure he's allowed to return to the area. His intentions? He's not coming up to the front window with a phantom, he's flying a foam plane in the area. No, he's not the problem.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  8 лет назад

      +Carson Vogt Thank you Carson. At least some people get it. You're right, I did not see him in the flight cam until my spotter pointed him out (due to concentrating on flying, quality of SD video, and him blending into the background colors). Immediately after my spotter pointed him out, I avoided him, because I was actually looking for him at that point.
      +shaun Savoury, the only time I was "over his property" was when I cut the corner closest to the stop-sign, heading west, right after he stepped out into the street to try and take out my plane. The street and surrounding properties are NOT his property.

    okay, well its kinda stupid to fly that low near a street and peoples homes who don't want their property space/ privacy invaded. I mean, wtf do you expect. You got plenty of free space out there...

      @secretspy711  8 лет назад +8

      Does a car driving down your street invade your property/privacy? No, it doesn't.

    • @thomas-dz6up
      @thomas-dz6up 8 лет назад +8

      +secretspy711 Um first of all that is totally different lmao..... Cars are meant to drive down streets... Don't try to compare something that is totally different.... My point is, you have all the space in the world, yet you choose to fly right by somebodies house and very low to the ground/street. Of course a car driving down a street doesn't invade my property/privacy. You know why? Maybe because its a CAR, and that is what streets are used for.... It's not like its hovering close by repeatedly OVER my property with a damn camera...... Plus I'm not against people using these at all. I think It's cool. It's just how they use them, and what things can be taken into consideration.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  8 лет назад +6

      It's obvious you have never flown one of these before. Just because it has a camera does not mean it is invading your privacy. Lots of cars have dash cams. Just because it doesn't have 4 wheels doesn't mean it's invading your privacy either. Yes I know its DIFFERENT than a car, but you haven't told me why it makes a damn difference.

Show the guy a little respect and leave him know peace.

    the homeowner was acting ridiculous. that said, I fly only over open fields, baseball parks and other similar areas. I don't fly over streets or near homes. Not because there is much risk to people or property....but because there are angry, disrespectful people in this world who are just looking for someone or something to get pissed off about.
    My buddy once drove his nitro up and down my road. My neighbor came out of his house and yelled at us because he was sleeping, said we were breaking the law by drivng the car on the road and threatened to call the cops. We apologized and stopped running the car. But heck, it was 2 in the afternoon on a sunday! He wouldn't have said anything to someone who was running a lawn mower or a weedwacker. But many see RC's as toys and immediately form disrespectful opinions of anyone who uses them.
    He would not of threatened someone who was mowing their lawn or using a weedwacker for waking him from his nap....but yell at the guy next door running a RC, for some people that is practically a past time activity.

    • @nialljamesbuckley
      @nialljamesbuckley 9 лет назад +4

      yep. some people find fun offensive. I had some old coot come out and yell at me and my 7 year old for shooting model rockets off in the local school field. he said he was worried we would catch his house on fire. it's a 5-football field area surrounded by at least 200 feet of 40' pine trees, through which he hiked to get to the school...
      not to worry, we said we would be careful, smiled and my son had TWO learning experiences that day.
      Call the cops on someone for flying an RC plane near your property? At worst cops will tell them to stop. A lawyer will tell you that your best bet in tort is $1 damages.
      Throw a rock and damage someone's expensive property that's not trespassing on yours? that's another story.

    I was at the beach recently flying my phantom with fpv over the dunes and waters edge.(during the winter and was hardly anyone else out) when an old lady came up to me and started raising hell with me telling me I was gonna kill a seagull with my flying weedeater!. I politely told her there were thousands and asked her if she would really miss 1. Then I told her that my bird was way more expensive that one of her flying rats and wasn't about to hit one. She then told me that her whole family lived within 1/2 mile and their tax money was going to BAN me from coming out to the beach anymore. I then asked her if she ever went into Jacksonville, which is the big city next to the beach and told her my family lived there and our tax money was banning her family from entering. +Mike H That's just dumb. People who FPV usually know what they're doing, plus since they can see with the screen on/next to the transmitter it makes it a little safer. This person never got within a dangerous vicinity of any badly damageable private property and was controlling the plane like a pro. On top of all of this, the ONLY thing you could possibly say that is wrong here(other than the legality of flying over a public road, which was empty other than that parked jeep and a few construction vehicles) is the possible noise pollution, and it's the middle of the afternoon so who gives a crap? Your careless operation argument breaks down when you notice this, and even more so when you realize that not EVERYONE is going to be flying a drone over one place. I don't see another drone in the sky, do you? No. You're just a troll, your argument is badly thought out, and you're just flat out wrong! The person throwing rocks was being COMPLETELY unreasonable.

      Except I wasn't in his airspace, if there is such a thing. I was over the road. So as long as we're talking absurd hypothetical situations here, then I'd call Denver Water and he'd be cited and fined for wasting water resources by watering the road.

That right there shows intent to harm, There was no need to throw rocks or get a bat and freak out period. All he had to do is go up there and talk to them politely. If there was a problem after that, then let the police handle it. That's what we pay them for right?

    The plane makes about as much noise as your average mini bike or less -well within legal noise parameters. I recon the home owner just has a bee in his bonnet about something and your plane became the focal point of his aggression. Maybe you could have stayed further away (while not being legally obliged to do so being that you were over pubic land when making the passes in front of his joint), but as you pointed out, you could not see him at the time to notice his displeasure. Maybe just bear this incident in mind when flying in proximity of residential areas in future. Good flying by the way! Love the video.

    • @darryldee467
      @darryldee467 7 лет назад +3

      A bit ignorant. Would you like to frequently hear small propeller sounds go past your residence as in eeeeeeeurrrrrrrrrrr several times that day, come on, use common sense. Just because it's legal doesn't always naturally make it right.

    • @eatingcatshit
      @eatingcatshit 7 лет назад +3

      I know I wouldn't like to hear propeller sounds, but I also know that I wouldn't hear propeller sounds as it wouldn't make enough noise to even reach inside the house. I'd also know that it would be past the house in about 5 seconds, and would also know that a neighbor with a weed wacker would be more than ten times louder, and would stay about 20 minutes, and people cutting their lawns and weed wacking noises are part of life.. However on that property, I'd also know mowers and weed wackers would be further away and more quiet, and the plane wouldn't even be heard unless I went out to the street and waited. I know all these things, but some people just don't. Unless this guy is doing circles around his house for 20 minutes, instead of a fly by or two I think he's weird IMO. If I were a cop I'd be annoyed he called me for that as well and refer to it as a known code, which is misuse of 911 services, usually known as emergency services. Just because it's legal doesn't always make it right, but there was no wrong I could see in this video. Also just because you can dial 911 doesn't always make it right either. Only if it were a really terrible nuance, and I've seen neighbors form hell. A battery operated, foam plane isn't anything in just a fly by. Instead, it's new, it's different, and some people hate "different", hate change and just love to make a big deal over anything they can. Had he sat in his house and watched a movie, he'd never have even known it was there.

Do you have a license to operate your craft commercially as you're doing by flying for the purpose of creating videos for which you're compensated for? Go buzz the white house and land in the yard so you can be properly educated on proper etiquette for operating model airplanes. Very careless of you to operate near humans and property you cannot afford to replace if you lose control of your toy and damage or hurt someone.

    What about the home owner calmly walking up to the plane operator and politely requesting to knock it on the head, instead of going all neanderthal and chucking rocks? Most people that operate this sort of gear are most reasonable and ambitious and may simply select the wrong place to fly? Better to get people onside than be known as a grumpy old prick. It's pretty obvious that you were using the road as a track. On a couple passes you came closer to the guys house, but every other time your machine was out over the middle of the road. There were no people out there (except that guy who put himself in the flight path), no traffic, and no other buildings.
    I see no wrong doing at all. Probably would have been better if you had stayed clear of the house, but you did nothing wrong. Sweet flight by the way. I caught myself leaning a couple times as if i was in the cockpit.

    With the exception of the pass at 9:43 (which was after he tried to damage my plane) I stayed completely outside of his property line at all other times, and I would not consider it "buzzing" any more than I would someone riding a motor scooter up and down the street. The officer that showed up actually mostly sided with me and my flying buddy. We apologized anyway (didn't have to)... but he could have politely asked us to stop, instead of throwing things.

      +Gear Obsession If I had lost control it would be very unlikely to hit him since he wasn't standing where I was going. Really the only instant that this would've been possible is when he was attempting to hit the plane and take it down, so in my view it would be his own fault. it would be like someone walking out into the street in front of a car, its just stupid. sure, pedestrians have the right of way (in the US, at least) but there are limits to that right. if you intentionally walk out in front of a car, get hit, and sue the driver, (especially if you had mal intent), you're almost certainly not going to win.

I mean are you going to start worrying about people walking next to you because they might have a NFC credit card reader and steal your credit card information next? sheesh. All you old hypocritical complainers need to get a life. There are so many far worse things in life to be afraid of than some airplane buzzing around for 10 mins. You could live in Afghanistan and have bombs going off, so wake up! If you cant stand that little airplane, then how the F did you ever make it in life thus far. Its a toy and there is no harm so leave us all be and go put your head in a corner, because that seems like the best use for it and everyone around you.

    The biggest thing i hope that was learned from this is that theres still TONS of open space with trees hills terrain and all sorts of cool places to fly without having to fly past someones house multiple times at or below roof level. chucking rocks may be a bit childish but you have to consider others, what if he was in there trying to have a once month skype to his relative on the other side of the planet or some other deep and meaningfull event that is going to be entirely messed up by the constant drone of an rc plane passing by every minute or 2?
    next time forget about the houses and the boring street, hit up some of those valleys and other natural formations that are seen through out your video

I have a drone, but I would be aware of others, I would not disturb someone in their home or on their property. just a lack of respect and awareness and it is these things that are causing the government to be involved as wel as more and more people to hate any rc hobby . just use COMMON SENCE and everything will be ok, so now equip the planes with little rock bomber and go drop a rock on his head lol, then shake hands say sorry and call it a day...cheers

    I've been flying r/c for more years than you are most likely old and full sized aircraft for almost twenty years. Like it or not, the FAA has authority over all of us. Your video, and others like it are the exact reason they are going to enact and enforce line of sight rules. The AMA has worked hard to preserve the privilege of flying models. It's a shame the action of short sighted individuals are going to ruin it for all of us. And never forget, there are two kinds of model airplanes, those that have crashed and those that will. That's why we fly well clear of people and property.

      snaproll94e And I've been flying for 17 years, and while I don't have a PPL I've been around aviation my entire life, my father was a pilot and so was my grandfather. Don't see that age has anything to do with it... You're trying to "out-rank" me or something? Like I said before, the FAA cares about this video as much they do about videos of your kid throwing a football. According to the letter of their interpretation, both are the same as a manned aircraft, so a football is just as dangerous to them, and football has been around a lot longer than airplanes! The argument you're making is like saying the EPA is going to try to enact more gun laws because you let your kids shoot at mushrooms with a shotgun. Totally ridiculous.

    • @snaproll94e
      @snaproll94e 9 лет назад +1

      My point is, there was no EPA, FAA, FDA, Homeland Security etc. etc. until the general public said, they need the government to protect them from someone or something. Once created, these offices grow and become all powerful until, if nothing else, their lawyers will bankrupt you before you ever get your day in court. Put people and their property in harms way and local or federal laws will be written to stop those actions, that's what governments do and politicians jump at the chance to protect their constituents because it gets them re-elected. I'm curious, what does your dad and grandfather think of your video and flying? If like my grandfather and dad they are no longer with us, you have my condolences. Google the origin of "I have met the enemy and he is us" maybe that cartoon will help you understand. I'll give you the last word, it's obvious you don't care or just don't get it.

    My hobby is riding motorcycles.....10x louder then rc planes.....10x more dangerous......and somehow accepted as the norm.....you cant make any excuses for what this guy did......we actually did have a guy complain to us about the noise once...but unfortunatley for him noise is not a reason to do anything because exhausts on motorcycles are tuned so much within the guidelines of the laws and noise pollution of the area...........
    So in short nothing in this film is illegal or different then a loud car or motorcycle passing by, the "WHAT IF" scenarios you clowns make up have already happened with motorcycle and cars 100xs over

    • @dmbadcat
      @dmbadcat 8 лет назад

      but the motorcycles and loud cars don't drive past the same house every 2 minutes for half an hour
      this is more relatable to having a landscaping crew come outside your porch and go up and down the road revving a weed eater just randomly hacking at weeds
      Then again, I'm all for furthering the sport, just saying, noise DEFINITELY should be considered when RC pilots are thinking about flying next to people's homes for fifteen minutes to half an hour. This guy probably goes out there and flies at least 2-3 times a month, which keeps this negative impression of some random aircraft buzzing outside your porch for half an hour all year long, not knowing who or why they are flying down your road.
      Of course it seems dangerous to the average joe.
      Personally, I'd love to fly like this guy and experience the sunset through the eyes of my model plane, but not everyone sees it this way.

    What they have to understand is that they own the property not the airspace above it. As long as you are not flying FPV within 5 to 6 miles of restricted airspace ie Airport and below 400 feet you're fine. They don't own the airspace above the property.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +1

      United States vs. Causby determined in 1946 that a landowner "owns only so much of the airspace above their property as they may reasonably use in connection with their enjoyment of the underlying land." So, had he managed to down my aircraft during the brief moment when I cut the corner of his lot (which I already admitted was a mistake), he might have won such a case. But as tophat and mstrfool say here, he has absolutely no right to try to bring it down outside of his property, and if he did, he would probably be looking at a felony because of the value of the aircraft. I might add that, in that sort of case, it's the county or state that would bring the charges against him, regardless of whether I wanted to continue with it or not.

      Hate to say it but do not rely on wiki. I always back up anything I read from them as any "encyclopedia" that can be edited by anyone is not reliable information and a lot of college profs are not taking papers with only wilki links and cites on them! My daughter just finished her BS and she learned what I had been trying to teach for years! If it can be changed don't trust it. Backup!
      OH! nice flight! You did land a bit hard but foam? Yeah, duct tape and a charged battery and you're ready to go!

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад

      well it's not like I'm doing an academic research paper, just wanted to post a couple links so that people could begin to familiarize themselves with the case. Nonetheless, several studies have actually shown that wikipedia is no more unreliable than encyclopedia brittanica, for example.

    • @georgepurdy6493
      @georgepurdy6493 9 лет назад +1

      Wiki, I know but when colleges start to question which I've done since I first saw that "edit" button the first time I went there, then it's time to backup what we read on line any more and after the what, queen or princess from Sweden I think it was years ago that edited information on them and Wiki came unglued about it I never trusted completely anything in their site.
      When my daughters teacher told the class NO wilki cites without conformation from another site, that was when I learned that info on the internet should be done in 3s to be exact. Not a problem with the correct questions in a search. Oh she graduated with a 3.1 GPA not bad for a single working mom.
      I know you were not doing a research paper but those who commented with really bad information needed those links so they can remove feet from orifices!
      But still a great flight! Ya got control dude!

      "They don't own the airspace above the property."
      Actually they most certainly do. Cuius est solum, eius est usque ad coelum et ad inferos - You own your land up to heaven and down to hell.
      The modern rules generally hold that you own the land immediately above and below - so you can't stop Delta from flying 30k above your land but an RC plane 30feet above your house is absolutely a trespass.
      However from what i can tell the only time he crossed the property line was AFTER the guy came out and attacked the plane. There is a tort for that as well: trespass to chattel.
      there may be nuisance laws and/or regulations that govern this sort of thing wherever this is but for a trespass with no real injury? good luck recovering anything. but throw a rock from your driveway at an expensive RC plane flying over public or someone else's land? you're paying for whatever damage you do.
      People are very nervous about drones - for good reason. However it's important for those with innocent motivations for doing this to be a good ambassador for the hobby. Throwing rocks or bringing a bat to a discussion isn't a good way to handle seeing an RC Plane fly by your house. We'll never know if the pilot was right or wrong because the homeowner made it obvious that he was absolutely in the wrong.

    And you flew way too low over those vehicles at the end of the cul-de-sac too.

      +DiedrichKyrian It might be just a plane to you and me but to other people it can be a camera and an intruder.
      Even electric planes are not silent.
      He buzzed that house close enough to demand their attention eleven times and he flew very fast and low over the vehicles in the cul de sac 3 times - low enough to be a real threat to anyone near those vehicles.
      It is already becoming more and more difficult to find places to fly.
      Pissing people off - right or wrong - is only going to make it more difficult.

      +Knobov Sossidge Well, he build his house right next to a public road. Would he call the police on someone/a neighbour who was test-driving his motorcycle on said public road too?
      This place seems pretty isolated, ideal for such test-drives.
      And a motorcycle-driver with a go-pro isn't rare (e.g. for insurance reasons).

  • @ollopa1
    @ollopa1 9 лет назад +8

    I flew my first RC plane circa 1990. Even looong before then there were well-established rules and guidelines governing safe places to fly in order to protect the public from us and us from liability if we crashed. The serious pilots all joined AMA and flew at sanctioned fields. These days the technology is better than ever but the flying is mostly inconsiderate, selfish jackassery and occasionally dangerous. I think your neighbor was childish and over-reacted but I can't blame him for being angry with you for flying up and down the streets that low, near his property and disturbing his peace. He has as much right to enjoy the afternoon as you do. There wasn't any controversy between RC hobbyists and the public for so many decades until foam planes and quadcopters became a fad John Q Public began doing this shit buzzing cars, roads, and buildings and posting it up on the Internet. Thanks a lot for grabbing everyone's attention and helping to ruin the hobby.

    • @secretspy711
      @secretspy711  9 лет назад +1

      ollopa1 You don't wanna start with "I've been flying since blah blah blah." You think that because you started then, with balsa models probably, that it gives you some kind of authority? I started flying nitro heli's circa 1999, and built my own balsa fixed-wing models a couple of years after that. Just because RC has evolved to include foam and quadcopters doesn't mean anyone who uses one is a noob that doesn't know what he's doing. All you're doing is showing your inability to adapt. Would I fly a nitro model like I did in this video? Absolutely not! If it was the noise that bothered him, there is a threshold of acceptable noise that he obviously thought I was over, and I thought I was under. Simply a difference of expectations. You say 1990 was long before well established rules?? Wrong, AMA was founded in 1936. You're right, he does have as much right to enjoy the afternoon as I do, but he does NOT have the right to throw rocks at my plane or threaten me with a bat, nor does he have a right to tell me I can't fly in a public space. It's actually not loud at all, considering this is at half throttle with a 12" prop. Higher throttle settings, or faster spinning, smaller props make much more noise. If you think I've helped to ruin anything, you are sorely mistaken.

    • @ollopa1
      @ollopa1 9 лет назад +3

      secretspy711 You are so thick-headed, man. I'm not disparaging the hobby for evolving. I think the advancements in technology are great. But there HAS been a change in the conscientiousness and experience level of the average hobbyist. People just buy it, pull it out of the box and start flying without receiving the wisdom of those who came before them. The way you are flying is annoying to your neighbors and reckless. You should stop being so self-entitled and learn how to live respectfully with other people. You can have your hobby without irritating everyone who doesn't fly. You fly like a total jackass and you disregard every single guideline and precedent that has been put in place regarding this hobby. Your stubborn adherence to selfishness and pretend mental retardation is provoking the hammer of legislation that will diminish RC aircraft. Fly with a modicum of respect for other people you dumbass.

      So if someone is being a douche bag the best thing to do is get a bunch of douche bags to out douche him... Interesting logic.

      only thing is it's a nuisance to nearby home owners due to the noisy gas engine of a little buzzing bird swooping past their window for the 15 minutes of filming and additional flight time from whatever else he does out there
      Not saying we should throw a bunch of regulations at RC or anything,
      but rather we should create a culture where RC fliers aren't bothering the general public with noisy drones and planes, disturbing day sleepers, freaking out animals, flying into flocks of birds just to piss em off etc
      How do we create this culture though?
      Too many new people blindly jumping into the hobby... Even if there were laws against whatever is going on, nobody pays attention to em, and the laws in place are never clear. SO. the next alternative is to directly assault the model aircraft, or have police intervention.
      None of these scenarios are good, all happen too often, and all could be avoided if the model owners just talked to the people nearby before flying by and over their property.

      +dmbadcat it's not a gas engine, it's electric.

    Because of flying like this and similar we have in Norway since January 2016 laws that any drone at more than 250grams must be registered and it is illegal to fly nearer than 150m to property or people. The largest drones you must now have a actual regular airplane license to fly now to the despair of of fire-department, police and similar. It is simply way to expensive to hire a airplane pilot flying the drones or paying for airplane license for the former drone pilots.
    I think Norway have maybe the most stupid government in the world... Like having a airplane license makes you a better drone pilot hahaha.

      +Rondo Cat No it's just another way for your government to keep people down and control them. They will live in fear of what will happen if they fuck up with their drone flying.

      +Kenshin Himura not at all, it's so there is no chance of you claiming you don't know the rules, if you have a license then you have to know the rules, that is mandatory

      its a toy and this is america. we dont need no stinkin license..."oh please mr govt. man can i have permission to fly this toy?"
      "Oh thank you sir, thank you." Here is your $100.00 fee for the license"

      At the end of the day this is a fucking TOY and there should be no rules for flying it. Just use common sense and don't fly near people or property that you don't own.
