Seriously Simple. To the point. I did mine at the same time as watching the video in my kitchen. WORKED! Thank you so much my cousins Echo had no string in it and I was left to figure out how to spool new line. Thank you thank you thank you!
I am too embarrassed to admit how long I have been doing this wrong. Thanks for this tutorial🙏🏼 This will save me many hours and spare me many bad words👍🏼
Maybe you ca help me? My trimmer is about a year old and like others I've never been shown how to restring it until now BUT I can't get the head to turn while trying to line up the holes with the arrows. What's the trick, it won't turn at all; do you turn a certain direction or maybe pull up or push down while trying to turn? Any help would brighten my day.
There's a video made by the company that spends about 15 seconds on how to do this that is about 1/10th as good as yours. Thank you for being 100x more patient and clearer.
I can't even begin to tell you how much this short and to the point video has helped me. I'm a widow and my husband did all the lawn care for 32 years. When he passed, I decided to continue to do it and had a lot to learn. Even replacing the string trimmer was a mystery to me. Now, I can do it in no time at all...all because of this helpful video. Thank you!
Great video! I spent half an hour trying to figure out how to get a new line in my trimmer for the first time and just as I was about to smash the trimmer to pieces I found your video. Four minutes later I knew exactly what to do. This video should come in the box with all new Echo SRM 225 grass trimmers. So easy now!
Echo needs to hire this man to create all of their equipment tutorials. I've had my trimmer for years and never knew this is how to use the speed feeder. You have made my life so much easier in 4 minutes! I see why this video has 1M views. Thanks and keep up the good work!!!
I'm a 51-year-old woman, whose son bought one of these for her after tossing her old one across the yard in frustration. (That one was a Bolens and he replaced the carburetor, lines, spark plug, bulb and pull cord and it still took a solid 10 minutes to get running.) This thing is the EASIEST to start and to rethread, EVER. I brought up this video to remind me what he showed me on rethreading since it's the first time I needed to and he was exhausted from working in the heat and I didn't want to bug him. This video is now in my favorites and made me feel very accomplished. (My son, an adult who doesn't live with me, would gladly have just done all my trimming for me but I actually enjoy the satisfaction of tidying the yard with a weedwhacker. Also I am married and my husband does the mowing but hates weedeaters because he never experienced one so easy to start and rethread as this. Just don't want anyone thinking "why didn't your son do it for you?") Anyway, thanks for the video!!!
So I’ve been taking it apart to replace line. A pain. Broke down and watched someone else’s uTube. Didn’t mention L down and I couldn’t feed line thru it. Finally found yours. L down and looking clear thru hole when lined up was magic words! So easy now! Thanks.
This is the BEST VIDEO on how to replace the line on the EchoSRM! Thank goodness someone bothered to state clearly that the "L" goes to the top. Hubby is 84 and can't do this anymore and I'm a novice - so this was absolutely the only thing that helped me help him!! THANK YOU - VERY CLEAR instructions for a 74-yr old woman who has never done any of this before!
Excellent! I've owned this same trimmer for about 3 years now and just ran out on the factory installed string. I remember reading about string replacement when I bought the trimmer but thought I'd turn to trusty youtube for a visual instruction. Glad I did. With so many thoughtful and considerate people like yourself that post these how-to videos, yours shines among the best. It is technically accurate and visually informative without any unneeded background music or other distractions. Keep up the great work. There are lots of us who appreciate your efforts.
You used it for three years and you just ran out? I am thinking I used it a lot harder than you do therefore consumed a lot more line faster than you. I hit many obstacles and had to use the bump feed many times on my first day and consumed all the line. That's OK as I am pleased with the performance of this line trimmer and it is easy to reload new line.
Thank you so much for explaining the "L" and "R" inside the spool head. I have had a heck of a time trying to figure out why my speed feed head was not advancing string the correct way.
Dude so many times I've tried to wrap this thing and obviously got it so tight with it a part that was so helpful thank you for taking the time brother really I appreciate it
Just bought one yesterday, because motivated to work outside during the 1st heatwave of the season lol. Thanks for the video.. much easier than reading the manual.
Widow here who has wrestled her Echo trimmer bump head for 3 yrs. Not even the sweet people at the shop I bought it from told me to have the L up instead of the R. Magic! Thanks for such clear instructions. 😊
I didn’t grow up with a dad to teach me these things, and I greatly appreciate people like you, who takes the time out of their days to teach people like me. Thank you
Good to know there are people out there that still know how to get to the point and help others When I open the video I had no clue how to do this. I finished winding my string before your video ended. So simple even a guy who just retired 23-year-old Craftsman weed Wacker can learn in under a minute. Rock on.
I just bought one of these trimmers but had no idea how to load the string. Thank you very much for making this informative and easy to follow video. Videos such as this are some of the best content on YT. Peace.
Thank you for the video as Echo's site doesn't say how to insert the spool specifically, and I had it backwards (ignorance is bliss) and thanks to you I understand it now. Thanks again! dball
Sir I give you 6 stars!!!! I have been struggling for months trying to do this correctly, a guy at a Hardware store showed me all WRONG!!! I don’t comment on many videos but I felt I owe you one !!!! THANK YOU FOR JUST THE FACTS!!!!!!! OUTSTANDING!!!!
Thanks for the easy to understand video. I am a little confused as to why a brand new weed trimmer doesn't have any instructions for loading string. You certainly saved the day.
Thank you so much for the quick tutorial! I bought my new Echo SRM-225 about 3 months or so ago. Before I purchased it, the sales rep showed me how to replace the line, but I couldn’t remember for the life of me on how to replace it. Today is the first time I’ve had to replace the line. A quick Google search lead me straight to this video, and, I have to say, it was straight and to the point. I had no issues! Thank you for spending the time making this quick tutorial!
Almost in tears with frustration, went to RUclips and found your instructional video. Brought a prideful smile to my face when I followed your instructions and loaded my own weed eater string!! Thank you 😅
I have checked multiple youtube videos for properly replacing the string to Echo SRM 225 trimmer, your method is the simple and best. Thank you so much!
Excellent video! My husband couldn't figure out how to take the head apart, replace the string, then reassemble the head. I found your video for him and he followed your video step-by-step and got it working. Thanks!!
Thank you sir! I own a large equipment construction service company. Most things just make sense so I do not read instructions. In this case a neighbor lady was left to take care of her children. I asked what I could do to help. She said she needed her lawn mower working and her trimmer fed with line. She did not have the instructions and this made it very easy. You did not just help me, you helped a single mother in need. God bless you sir, and I am sure he will. Thanks again!
This was excellent. I have had this trimmer as a back up to my SRM 230, and for the life of me, I could not figure out how to wind the trimmer wire based on the written instructions. This was perfect. Thank you!
Seriously, thank you. My dad usually does all of this for me but he’s been in the hospital for two months after cancer surgery. I’m trying to take care of his house. You’re amazing for this !
I have had this trimmer for about a year and I love it except for the fact that the line gets sucked into the head and I have to take it apart and restring it over and over. Maybe I'm not feeding the line by tapping the head enough but when the ends of the line get close to the head I have to start over. I am doing exactly what you do in your video. Very frustrating.
This is what I'm wondering. As the string runs out, does the last bit fling away? Or is some residual string left on the spool and I must dissemble it, remove the last bit of string before installing new line?
This happened to me twice the first time I used it. I had to take the string completely out and rewind it. Even my my much maligned Craftsman didn't do that.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! I watched another video before yours and wasted about 20 minutes doing it wrong. yours was so simple. I'm going to nominate you for the Nobel peace prize. YOU REALLY DO ROCK!!!!!
I just bought this trimmer and I had no idea how to thread the line, spent about 15 mins trying to manually wrap the line around the spool, it worked, but I knew it wasn't right, watched your video and did it in about 60 seconds! Thanks, liked and subscribed.
Welcome to 2018 how to 👍🏻😆 I just bought this trimmer a few weeks back and I really like it. Was using it and I ran out of the factory loaded trimmer string. I put it down to read instructions and load later after I finished mowing the yard. Well my 9 year old said he could probably load it for me. I told him to wait and I’ll help. Well he went straight to your video on my iPad and came back 10 minuets later loaded up and ready to trim 😆👍🏻👍🏻. Nice instructions “SO EASY A 9 YEAR OLD CAN DO IT!!!”
As my daughter would say, "this is game-changing"! I cannot believe I have been winding string with the top off and trying to feed it thru while keeping the string tight on the spool only to have it come loose. I could go on and on. WOW!!! I just went to my shop (9:45 pm) after watching this video to see if it would work on my old Echo GT-200R and it does. I put string on in less than 5 mins. I bet over the weekend I had to stop 10 times and restring! (Guess why I went looking for a better way?) Sir ...you and your video are awesome! Thank you so much!!!
I’ve had an Echo for a year and never knew how to replace the line. I have been replacing it wrong for a year. Didn’t know it was just this easy. Thanks
Thank you for posting this video! My brand new trimmer sucked the line back up in the trimmer head with about 10' line still on the spool so I had to disassemble the trimmer head to get it out. When I put the new line on it I couldn't wind it on the spool. I took it apart again and noticed that the spool had L on one side and R on the other side so I knew there a correct way to install it. I called ECHO customer service and they didn't have any idea how to install the spool. This video saved me a lot of aggravation. When I took the trimmer head apart I found that I had installed it with the R side down which is upside down. When I installed the spool with the L side down I was able to easily load the new line.
just what i needed to see! bought the new trimmer head, installed it but forgot to check out the directions for restringing it! came back in to go online to find the instructions and i had left youtube running and boom! there you were explaining how to restring the new head. time to play the lotto. thanks for the help and keep up the good work!
On a daily basis, I manage a 100 or so men & women on multimillion dollar construction sites, yet I tackled restringing my weed eater completely wrong and you sir have kept up the ole adage.., “learn something new everyday .” Thank you!
You are AMAZING! I have been trying for years and multiple videos to figure this thing out. One viewing of your video and perfection!. You are my hero.
This was very easy although the 2 videos I watched before yours were slightly different when feeding the line through. Your video showed where you look right through the center to be able to feed your line through the other hole unlike the two other videos I watched. Making this video on replacing your line very easy to do. Thanks again
Thank you so much for making this 1000000 times easier and clearer than anything echo ever dreamed of. U got a new subscriber. Very concise, I forget from winter to spring and this saved me
Marc, you absolutely save my day buddy. My echo string trimmer ran out of string way out in my field. I had extra string on my tractor … and fumbled around and took the string feeder apart, trying to insert new strain. I had no idea what I was doing. Not only diid fail to figure out how to put string in it, I couldn’t even figure out how to put the damn thing together again.😢 Luckily, I had my cell phone with me and decided to Google the instructions I needed. Several videos showed you how to feed string into the trim ahead … they didn’t help me as my trim head was a part. Now desperate, up comes your video … which showed me not only how to take the damn thing apart, but how to put it together again and load the string Walla👍👍 thank you Marc. YOU SAVED THE DAY!!
Wow, I cannot believe I have wasted so much time restringing my Echo trimmer over the past 3 years. This video is a game changer for me. Thank you very much for posting! I am subscribed to your channel now due to this video alone.
So helpful, my dad and I both learned how to replace the string I hope you keep doing tutorials. We are Hispanic and this really helped us. Man some of us are really dumb, but that's why there are these kind of people to help us.
Thank you!! I bought an echo trimmer about 2 months ago and couldn't make out the instructions that came with the unit. Always had to change string ever 5 mins. Now my trimmer works beautifully.
I have 2019 Echo SRM-2620u trimmer with same string head. Man you showed just what I wanted to know and right to the point, you are 10 times better then trying to follow instruction booklet, thanks for posting and keeping this old video up!!!!!!!
Wow! To think of all the time I've wasted trying to replace my trimmer line the wrong way. Thanks for the super simple explanation of the correct and easy way to do it.
Excellent video. I don't think they can make it easier than that. I bought this Echo srm225 a while back and just used all the string in it. Never thought it would be so easy. Glad I googled how to it before reading the instructions. A picture (video) is worth a thousand words!!
For the love of all that is holy!!! Thank you for a no nonsense no-filler video that got to the point. I felt like an idiot trying to figure this out. All the other videos I’ve seen do a poor job explaining this simple procedure. Thank you!!!!
Thanks great video. My neighbor who mows for a living told me the wrong way to put the inside piece on. Thanks for making this video to show the right way.
Now that was a straight forward explanation of how to restring the week eater, thank-you. No beat'n round the bush! That's just how I like it, when trying to find out how to do it right.
The minor but yet crucial detail that’s missing from the last video I watched was the fact u have to have the R face the ground and the L towards u... was ready to toss this whacker straight to the ground... u just saved it’s life.. it thanks u immensely! I do too. Thank u sir
Omg I’ve been putting the thread the wrong way for a year. Can’t believe how easy this process was. I always took it apart to add the thread. Thank you
Thanks a thousand time, man, from a country french guy who just bought an Echo SRM 237 and wha had not a clue how to do this, this the f...in manual doesn't explain how to do it, and neither an Echo RUclips channel! So, thanks to you, i can work again in my garden!
I have had my Echo SRM 225 for a few years now. Never read the owner's manual. A neighbor saw me using it and asked how I liked the speed feed head... I said "What?!!" Yup, I have been wrapping string the "old fashioned way" for all this time. Thanks for the video.
Excellent how-to video. I had no idea how to clear my trimmer of line that retracted into the head, but with the help of your video, I cleared it, installed new line and I am back to trimming my yard!! Thanks so much!!
I have seen many videos regarding this topic, I can tell this one is the best by far, very well explained and very easy to follow. You are saving many hours of frustration for those who are trying to place correctly the spool. Thank you very much!!
Dude, you just earned your existence in the universe. Thank you!!! I’ve been wrestling this thing for years. Maybe I should read the instructions next time. Lol.
Thank you so very much❤️❤️❤️❤️after 30 years of using a weed eater this is the first time I have learned the right way to feed a string. I have always taken off the spool and feed it manually then hope to heck it’s would get in there without the string unwinding. I just did what you showed and it worked perfectly. I bought this echo weedeater two months ago and this is the first time I had to restring it
After loading about 15' of string on two tries, the entire length flew out of the head both times. The manager at Home Depot said that it appeared that I didn't have the little white collar aligned correctly where the spool is seated. He loaded some string for me at the store, and it works just fine. Hopefully I will be able to correctly do the process next time on my own. Congrats on a great video.
Since I didn't have an arrow where it was pointed out in the video, I decided to take the top off and how to line up the holes and did have success. I commented earlier and then left before stating the success. Thanks to the talent for his help.
I was pondering on getting one of these. I LOVE the way you just winded that up without having to used the spool and your fingers holding the string! That's just awesome!
Thank You for watching my video. I read and appreciate every comment good or bad. Please subscribe to my channel. I'm glad i could help you out.
TractorTread than you do much for this video it helped me out so much! Have a good day and than you again
Seriously Simple. To the point. I did mine at the same time as watching the video in my kitchen. WORKED! Thank you so much my cousins Echo had no string in it and I was left to figure out how to spool new line. Thank you thank you thank you!

@TractorTread i did exactly what you did and now my string is coming out way to much when i hit the throttle. What am i doing wrong?

Welcome to 2018 how to 👍🏻😆 I just bought this trimmer a few weeks back and I really like it. Was using it and I ran out of the factory loaded trimmer string. I put it down to read instructions and load later after I finished mowing the yard. Well my 9 year old said he could probably load it for me. I told him to wait and I’ll help. Well he went straight to your video on my iPad and came back 10 minuets later loaded up and ready to trim 😆👍🏻👍🏻. Nice instructions “SO EASY A 9 YEAR OLD CAN DO IT!!!”
Awesome story! Thank You!
Excellent instructions - it worked perfectly on my echo trimmer. Took me 30 seconds, and probably saved me a half an hour of grief. Two thumbs up 👍👍
On a daily basis, I manage a 100 or so men & women on multimillion dollar construction sites, yet I tackled restringing my weed eater completely wrong and you sir have kept up the ole adage.., “learn something new everyday .” Thank you!
I got this used from my FIL, and he definitely didn't tell me to string it this way. I genuinely cannot believe how easy this is. Thank you!
Thank you! The instruction manual I got with my $300 weed eater doesn't even mention how to refill the head. Your video was very helpful
Single mom here who followed your instructions and had great success!
Not only diid fail to figure out how to put string in it, I couldn’t even figure out how to put the damn thing together again.😢
Luckily, I had my cell phone with me and decided to Google the instructions I needed.
Literally spent 2 hours trying to restring my trimmer. Just did it in 5 minutes thanks to your video. What a G.
My husband is in the military and frequently gone. this makes it so much easier for me to know how to take care of our equipment.
Your a life saver ... i was left alone on a jobsite and been messing with this thing for almost a hour in 100 degree Texas heat.... thanks so much!!
Excellent video. I don't think they can make it easier than that. I bought this Echo srm225 a while back and just used all the string in it. Never thought it would be so easy. Glad I googled how to it before reading the instructions. A picture (video) is worth a thousand words!!
Good video right on point. Just had to reload the 225 for the first time and thanks to you it took as long as it did to watch your video.
i try to talk fast and get to the point. Glad it helped.
I've been wrestling with this thing all morning and was beginning to hate this trimmer! Thanks for a great video that was clear and easy to follow.
I have seen many videos regarding this topic, I can tell this one is the best by far, very well explained and very easy to follow. You are saving many hours of frustration for those who are trying to place correctly the spool. Thank you very much!!
Your the first person to mention the R and L when installing spool. Good job.
Thank you Mark. I have to watch this every time I run out of spool because of my memories going bad. Because I’m getting old. Easy
I was pondering on getting one of these. I LOVE the way you just winded that up without having to used the spool and your fingers holding the string! That's just awesome!
Thank you for posting this. Mine was close to becoming airborne after 2 Summers of struggles.
Excellent instructions - even a 74 yr old woman can do it!!!!
