Great ideas Pooky, I especially agree that we should see mistakes as learning opportunities. I think it was George Bernard Shaw who said “A life spent making mistakes is not only more honourable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing”. 😁
So good Pooky and particularly apt for today for me. I’ve just had a great chat about kids not doing art after they leave school because they’ve 'got the exam' and how they need to do it for it’s own sake. Also apt because I’m guilty of what I do not being good enough far too often and finally, and I do mean finally🥴 a great idea for a toon Meme popped straight into my head, I love when you do that for me. This is a lovely video gentle, honest and full of straightforward information relevant to all of us. Sorry I did say finally a few lines back but.....what the heck. 😂😂
thank you Terry - and I love the toon! I think art in particular is something that a lot of people find joy in at some point in their lives and then leave behind although it could still bring a lot of happiness..
The most important quote on my intervention room wall is from Yoda... "The greatest teacher, failure is." I see so many of my students have their days blighted by perfectionism.
This is something I still struggle with hugely. I am making progress with it but I really have to consciously say to myself, "it's good enough" or "done is better than perfect."
Just what I needed today!! I've also watched your EMDR video. Would you say EMDR helped you with your perfectionism? I am currently doing EMDR to help me...
Oooh good question! I'm not sure to be honest - I had a therapist who used multiple different types of therapy with me and we worked on many different things; he certainly did help me with my perfectionism but more through schema therapy I think. The EMDR for me was about processing past trauma. That said, all the work I did with him was intertwined so I couldn't say for sure!! I really hope that you find the EMDR process useful. Once you get past the weirdness of it, it's an incredible therapy in my experience. But I was completely closed to people who told me that until I'd experienced it for myself.
Good enough is good enough because 80% of the results come from just 20% of the effort. Pareto is my life goal. The rest of the effort doesn't yield the same results for time spent.
Thank you for this video. I really struggle with making mistakes and needing to be perfect

So true!
How are you?

Yes! It's such an important step change in attitude when we can learn to embrace and celebrate mistakes as well as successes; but not easy..
I really like this - not talked about as often as I would like it to be but nevertheless a very real issue!
A huge issue! I hope you're doing okay?
I am, thank you!! :)

Me too! I’m finding that like any habit of skill it gets easier with practice..
