Great video! I have the larger Tonex and love it. I can’t wait to try the update and super sold on IK for supporting their products and customers with the free/very useful updates!
Thank you so much for this! Finally a clear, concise and informative Tonex video, without extended ‘high gain shredding’. The best ‘user’ video I’ve seen so far.
wow impressive. I am still using regular amps and your videos have really helped out looking at digital platforms. I am still looking for a good digital platform and I am leaning to tonex so far. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much! Glad I can help. I am still very much an amp guy as you can see if you dive into my other videos but I've found the perfect harmony between amps and digital. And it's a lot of fun!! Have fun discovering yours!!
I used to think that Amplitube wasn’t very good, and the amps were generic at best. (even their Mesa and other colabs) Then ToneX came out, and now I’m all in! Amplitude 5 really stepped it up, and would love to see a pedal with the flexibility and features of Amplitube 5
IKM isn’t the same company as it was. I has been sold and new staff has tremendous amounts of money to make research and development. That’s how they jumped into ToneX, after years of investing. ToneX has been made to last.
6 months ago i was in the market for an amp modeller to co exist with my helix and was torn between the tonex and the kemper player, so glad i chose the tonex
Kemper took a stab at what it thought/hoped customers would find fair and reasonable. Tonex laughed at Kemper and seemingly 100% undermined the whole kemper business model when it saw the opportunity🤣 Well played IK! Smell ya later Kemper....
There is nothing inherently "wrong" with the kemper player, imho with the exception of its price, especially compared to ToneX now. For $400 you get the ability to make captures, a somewhat unattractive but very useable display, great amp tones, very good effects, $100+ very good software program "Amplitude" included. + free updates including major new hardware and software features For $730, you get no ability to make captures, no display, great amp tones, very good effects, and very expensive updates that could have been included in the original price.
Sold the kemper stage after one year comparing ToneX captures vs my own kemper captures and ToneX junkie ones. ToneX was always better, a lot less aliasing, and 99% impossible to spot with A/B testing with real amp. Now ToneX cloud offers more free and paid tones than kemper with a bigger community and ecosystem, it would be stupid to buy kemper again. I also heard kemper is working on neural network competitor to fight back ToneX and NAM but they are 3 years late in the game…
how are you able to tweak the preset in real time with the effects, so far the only way I've been able to hear the effects is to add the effect(s) using the home tab ( I can't hear any effects to determine if they are at the level/intensity ect...until I save to a preset
@@LonelyRocker What about when using the pedal, not connected to a computer? Also, ,has IK released information regarding MIDI CC numbers for these number features?
I have a question on the Tonex Pedal vs Tonex one. I have the tonex one and love it but only use it to hold pedal captures. Sadly, it's a bit of a pain for changing captures and was wondering if your can use the tonex pedal to house only pedal captures, and use the footswitches to change between various sounds? I build tube amps so I'm not looking for those, just like the idea of one pedal to be several pedals; fuzz, od, dist, etc.. Especially now that I see delay and modulation being added.
If you do multiple captures, each with the changes you want you can then save them all as presets and then assign them via the foot switches so you can switch between them. Each preset would be unique but you could create a series for each pedal and then organize them on the TONEX pedal. Very doable....
Thanks so much!!! I am an amp guy but I have found the sweet spot where they work together. Not sure if you've seen my other content but I cover hybrid concepts a lot...
I cant wait for this update, i use the software version as im just a home recording guy these days sadly, but this update will save me having to add 3rd party vst effects to my chain (even though what im using sounds great ect), i just hope the new effects sound as good as what i currently use. great video LR :)
Thanks so much!! Hey, I'm just a recording guy too and I love it!! Wear that badge proudly! Certainly this gives you more options. And it's great how TONEX just keeps on giving...great platform!
IK's product line is great. Where it falls flat with some of the competition is the user interface. Not like it's overly complicated, but I feel everything is just 'one additional step' for anything I want to do, if that makes sense. Like first having to make a preset, save the preset and then drag it to the pedal, instead of editing the pedal directly through the desktop app (like, say, on a boss Katana). The pedal clearly wasn't designed for the extra functionality (as evidenced by the screen printing), so it's cool that it can do extra effects and they've unlocked that. But navigating the pedal itself really takes a bit of a learning curve already. Figuring out how to turn a cabinet on / off requires memorizing 3 different color codes. But, once it's setup, it sounds great! I hope they've thought of an intuitive way to do tap tempo on the fly.
Agree, and FWIW IK Multimedia has announced that the next update (after the effects update) will include a live editing feature - so, there is light at the end of that tunnel. I still hope that they will release slightly more capable hardware at some point. It is not only the cab indicator, there should at least be an indication which of the features are on or off (cab, noise gate, reverb, compressor, plus the new stuff) and what the current settings even are. Right now the only way to see what the value for gain, treble etc. is, is to turn the knob, at which point you are already changing it. I have no disrespect for IKM whatsoever, but this is the worst interface design I can remember. Add some balanced outputs and a digital out like S/PDIF to be able to go into a proper audio interface with quality converters for DA conversion and I will buy it instantly. And yes, the sound I am getting from the pedal and the quality I am getting from the software/plugin thru a proper RME interface is worlds apart despite using the same algorithm.
I purchased the Tonex1 and integrated into my HX Stomp setup via the Stomp loop. I wanted move into capture models slowly and the price of the Tonex1 allowed me to do that. I am very pleased with the 2 amp captures. Not sure how these new effects are going be useful yet.
Great way in. I know that works well. You likely are covered with effects on the HX but these just give you more options. There may be something you just like.
I hope they’ve fixed the problem with capturing clean sounds at low gain. When I try to start the capture, it says the levels are too low, even though they are correct. I have an open ticket since months about it.. none feedback yet. Also, I feel that the capture for high-gain tones was more accurate in previous versions. With the newer version, I can't get it to sound as close as before. I’m not sure if they’ve changed something.
@@LonelyRocker try it with a very clean and low gain sound, even if the test meter reaches the max before clipping, when I start to capture, after the 3. Click on the beginning from capture process, like 5s, it pops a message and say the level is too low..

I bought a used TC Plethora X5 for only $350 on Reverb. It’s a great unit, the effects sound like the actual TC Electronic’s pedals. The Desktop and mobile apps aren’t ’that flexible, (you can swap board, import TonePrints, and edit some settings, that’s about it) but definitely worth checking out. I run the ToneX Pedal in the effects loop and sounds awesome! I wouldn’t spend the retail $579 for it, but it’s a great piece of gear used.
@LonelyRocker actually, yes. I used the Digitech RP series multi-effects units for years and one of the things I loved about them was the ability to use their X-Edit software to adjust parameters on the pedal, hear the changes as the adjustments were made, and save the changes directly to the unit. I'd love to see a software patch that would allow users to tweak the Tonex presets onscreen and be able to hear the onscreen changes and save them directly to the pedal.
