Never gonna get tired of hearing that tone. Trying to get even remotely close with only freeware plugins and sims lmao. (if all else fails I'll just go full-on hardcore punk)
Using a cheap Strat into Amplitube 5's free default Brit 8000 sim gets me somewhere, although it's a lot harsher.

Try the fender one of the Fender ones that's on there along with the overdrive pedal. Might get you closer 👍

It's the sound it makes. The natural spankiness really lends to the style. I've also seen Les Paul's used, but it tends to sound way more mellow and dream-pop-like.
