I have never been as physically exhausted in a movie theater as I was for John Wick Chapter 4!
During the entire 3rd act we go from one of the most intense car chase / car fighting scene, to one of the best shot action sequences I have ever seen during the abandoned building fight scene. I felt my fingers go into the same crab claw shape when I play video games on pure reflex when it started to look like so many LITERALLY over the top games I grew up on!
THEN we get the insane stair fight, which every single step John fell down I practically felt just watching. Seriously it’s like that episode of Family Guy when Peter keeps falling down the new stairs! Then we finally get to the duel and thank god it was long enough in the end that we saw the look on the Marquis’s face when he realized he fucked up!🤣🤣🤣
As for the ending, it’s recently been announced that they are working on John Wick Chapter 5, plus I already believed he survived because the perfect retirement is where everyone thinks you’re dead..

I love how Mr. Nobody is a quintessential American street assassin. His tools are all American made stuff (the bulletproof backpack is marketed at students for school shootings, and the quick draw protector is ALSO marketed for sudden active shooters just in public, and his gun is a Marlin Model 1894) he uses boxing as his main hand to hand martial art, and he just speaks English. He isnt a fancy James Bond type like John speaking every language and knowing every culture with his hyper fancy bullet proof suit, hes just a hired American gun.

I just like to think he was never in a family or in any of the criminal syndicates underneath them. Just a guy with a finely honed talent for killing and tracking, who came across the underworld because, well, they're fucking everywhere. He probably got hired by someone wronged by someone underneath the Table or got wind of a bounty that he shouldn't have. He's Nobody to the table, he erased his own history, and crowbarred his way into the assassin's world with detective skills.
That would be why he had that notebook with drawings and answers about people he's clearly never encountered, but even John didn't know about.

Longest runtime in any John Wick movie, yet simultaneously the best. Every time one's trailer came out, people found something to hate on before they watched it. Everyone compared this to John Wick 1, which was barely 2 hours.
Yet this had all the cinematography and story of 1, with unparalelled action. Apparently Chapter 3 was cut short and would have been much more akin to this one if they let all the story scenes in. They said they turned the film into a movie. So the people who hate on 3 for not having as much story while saying this would be too long got proven wrong in the most spectacular way possible.

For the card scene, the playing cards have just a tiny bit of ink on them to make the numbers and symbols. Caine senses are so heightened that he can feel how the ink makes up the numbers on the corner, which is very impressive.
I think it's neat that this movie reunited Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins who plays Killa. Fun fact: In the lore, the writers confirmed that after the High Table appointed Killa to the head seat of the Germany section of the organization, he basically let himself go and gained a lot of weight. Prior to that, he was a talented and strong killing machine. Scott Adkins thoroughly enjoyed the idea of putting on a fat suit to fight John Wick. It was a bit challenging but so awesome to see.
If anyone didn't remember, Scott also played the evil drill instructor that Donnie Yen fought as Ip Man in Ip Man 4: The Finale and has been in a lot of action films.
Also, minor thing that was entertaining when a bunch of us went to see this in theaters. There's a lot of Cantonese speakers where I live. All of us were absolutely thrilled every time Caine gave us tidbits of Cantonese dialogue, especially the cussing moments. XD

As far as like John actually accomplishing anything goes i always felt like the whole reason he gets back in, in the 1st movie is because the world he did everything to leave came back to him and stole the most meaningful thing to him which is the ability to finally mourn and process death as his own person and not a killer and so he’s been kind of getting that revenge against them
But also i think he wanted to ability to die and be with his wife having been free of that world again. So he does all this so that when he dies he was no longer apart of that world he left for his wife

    • @billbill6094

In all three movies, he loses little pieces and memories of his wife, until here where he's "a ghost searching for his grave." The way he does it has a gunslinger vibe to it. Speaking of, I love the little homages to the Dollars trilogy like with Caine's pocket watch being similar to A Few Dollars More and the final duel obviously echoing The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Also, Akira is played by singer, Rina Sawayama in her first film and was hired by the director after he saw her choreography on her various music videos. I believe the director said he played a lot of Hotline Miami through the making of the John Wick films, which is why we got a few video game-esque camera angles since John Wick 2.
The Dragon Breath scene here was actually partially designed by a video game designer, and the camera angle and John's movement was both a reference to Hotline Miami and to John Wick Hex, the video game that came out after JW2. John Wick even had some of the same moves he had in Hex, and the return of the classic John Wick dubstep song not only serves to make it feel like a level in a JW game, but also brings everything full circle.
I love this movie so much.

It’s pretty amazing when u realize each film just gets better, one after the other. When the overhead one shot happened, the theater I was in lost it. 🤣 Easily one of the best one shots in all of film. Gotta say though, seeing Lance Reddick get killed off was shocking. Me n my dad were like woah. Can’t Believe that just happened. Makes even more sense y the cast n crew were even more heartbroken, when they were at the films premiere. Can’t imagine what the energy was in that theater, when that moment happened.
R.I.P. Lance Reddick. 💐🕊️ Curious to c where they go from here. Already aware that “Ballerina” n “The Continental” series is otw. The 4th film did well at the box office. Keanu said he’d b up to do more, as long as the films r received positively. Time will tell. 👏👏

I think the scene with the dog at the end makes that pretty clear, they purposefully close in on the dog who very deliberately looks off quickly into a direction as if to notice John, that's not something a filmmaker includes without intention. Either way I don't think John Wick 5 will be a continuation but maybe a prequel. I'm down for whatever, they caught lightning in a bottle with this franchise and delivered with each iteration.
