Another connection between Flushing and the Dutch, which is not in the books: my Dutch dad married a girl from Flushing in 1957. They lived in the Netherlands all their lives and had 3 children. And I’m one of them. As a child I spent most of my summer holidays in Flushing.
Hi. Here’s a little romantic story for you. My now beautiful wife was on holiday with her family in perranporth. She was a young 19 y/o While stood by the beach having her photo taken, in the background is a bunch of bikers (me being one of them) I was staring at her with stary eyes 🤩. We lived 200 miles apart back then and discovered this photo years after we were married. Keep up the great videos
Hi Sarah and Andrew! Lovely and interesting video again 🥰 And a familiar sight of Falmouth train station where I have been a few times 😊 I am so fascinated by all the stories you manage to find and tell in such a great way. And the video makes them alive. I have no idea what I would do for love but I am very impressed by this man who dismantled the house and assembled it again so far away 😳👍🏻 Thank you for this great video. Torunn 🥰
What a cute little walk! You two are amazing finding these sweet stories! The tombstones Amazing … hats off to all the lovely people who have not removed those ancient ruins! And have kept them in the same places for us to see…wow it just amazes me…the graveyard preserved! Hope all is well Sarah and Andrew! Ana 🌹
Awww, what a lovely video! I love all your clips of the flowers along the way interspersed between the history and tales of Cornwall. We have a huge sunflower down the road from us at the moment. Biggest I think I've ever seen! So beautiful. I've said it before Sarah, but my husband & Andrew would make a great double act with the jokes. 😄😄Hope mum is doing OK Sarah x J x
The most romantic place in Cornwall is the ticket office at Penzance train station.,,my advice is buy your ticket go to platform 4 jump on the train and don't look back til u gt to devon
The reeds would have been important for thatching the houses. Keep on making these wonderful videos. Well I took my wife to ashford castle in Ireland for four days, and next year I have booked a holiday in Turkey for the whole family.
Will definitely have to do this one. Such happy memories of Flushing for us. It's a lovely walk from there to Mylor. Had a memorable pint of Tribute at the Lemon Arms sitting under the tree in the back garden
As always..a beautiful vlog. Thank you for sharing this walk. I passed it on to my mum, who comes from Falmouth and goes back to stay there as much as possible. Your channel so deserves to get bigger😊.
There is a nice circular walk from Mylor Bridge , downn past Mylor boat yard and on to Flushing, then back over land to Mylor Bridge. Loved to have my memory jogged by your film this week.
Another very interesting walk, especially the graveyard, I love graveyards there so full off history, love to see more of that. Thanks Sarah and Andrew.❤
Another beautiful and entertaining walk Sarah, Andrew was on good form again, I can just imagine that parrot 🦜 shouting shop Mary :) but that grave yard looked a bit like something out of a spooky old movie, not one of my favourite pastimes since stepping across one that collapsed beneath me as a child, 🫣 what would I do for love! Share my last Rollo of-cause 😘
I bet the 'last Rolo' comment will be lost on some of your overseas and younger viewers! Did learn one thing though, that is to why the US open tennis venue is called Flushing Meadows. Great walk as always.
Sunflower and 50th. That shows love and thought do indeed exist. Yes they never fail to make me smile. Think you have to be a total grump to not be affected by them, especially on mass.
Hi Sarah we will be in Newquay this weekend Friday Sat and Sunday as my daughter is in uni their. If your around will have a catch up and a brew if your pushed we are Down again end of October for the half term break
I don't know this part of Cornwall at all. Definitely looks worth a visit, so thank you for the video and walk details. We holidayed abroad this year and it was too hot to walk, so I really missed getting out for a good, long walk.
Great video as ever - My Wife is obsessed with your earrings Sarah, you wore them when you went to St Michaels Mount a couple of months ago and she said the same then too. Could I ask where you got them please (They might turn up under our Christmas tree for her!) Thanks!
What a delightful video once again. Sunflowers make me smile too - they are such a ‘happy’ flower. Your stories bring the past to life once more - I wonder when someone last read those tomb stones? Your books are so interesting and I loved the Web site- I think that I might take a look at this (thank you). Keep doing what you do - you do it so well- hope Mum is feeling much better.
Another great video, with a very interesting story line for the route. This time some spooky content. Well done and thanks for sharing it with us. Cheers Bob
Always wanted to visit but it didn’t ever go in with the husbands plans. At least I’ll get to visit at some point afresh. My eldest will happily as long as we also visit St Austell where there’s a shop he likes. It’s a games shop where they have table top card tournaments. Well as long as it’s still there by time we get to travel back down south. Great video. Many thanks both.
Wow, that place, you should have put camera in the gap..:-)..Dutchsinse would be interested, he recently found a star fort in Scotland and Paul cook what he is also finding..Thanks great video...👍
Great vlog thank you. We live over the Penryn River directly opposite Flushing and look out over to the pub (Harbour House) and quay. Did you know that Roger Moore once lived in Flushing? Certainly a romantic figure to many 😉 in his prime. x
I loved the sunflower fields, both from your walk and the man who planted 80 acres of them for his wife on their 50th anniversary. Sorry to say, my husband isn't that romantic. Every October we visit Door County, Wisconsin: a peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan. Fall colors, Victorian B&B's, lakeside cottages, fish boils. We never get tired of it. This year we stay in a Victorian B&B. Scofield House in Sturgeon Bay was probably our best stay: the room at the top. If he were truly romantic he'd book us a place in Cornwall and we could go hiking as much as we wanted.
Well spotted! It was intentional and I also included some roses in Flushing - the flower of love! Ioften wonder if anyone spots my little editing quirks/jokes! Sarah :)
I live in Perranwell Station and feel very lucky that I don't need the car to get to Truro or Falmouth. I quite often get the train into Falmouth and then take the ferry over to St Mawes or Flushing, have a nice lunch and drinks and get the ferry and train back home. Two of my school friends got married at St Gluvius Church. Crikey, where do all those people on the beach come from? So noisy. Flushing used to be so secret and tranquil. There was never anyone on the beach years ago as it's quite polluted and smelly due to the docks being opposite. I believe someone from the Cadbury (chocolate) empire lived in the old Tudor house one time.
I live near Looe but don't drive much. I wanted to visit a place on a previous CWT video in Roseland which is in the Flusing area( sort of). It is about 37 miles from Looe to there so.....
I always enjoy your vlogs. I learn something every time. One of my favorite things about your vlogs is Andrew’s jokes. I wish I’d known about this walk when I visited Falmouth. Good reason to go back. Actually you show me many reasons after each of your vlogs to revisit Cornwall.
The skull and crossbones death head depicted on headstones were commonly used as ‘Memento Mori‘ symbols in the 16th to 17th centuries. They were a warning to us all that we cannot avoid death and no matter what our status is in life, we are all the same. "
Lovely walk and ride trip. I always love stories about interesting houses, and one moved 400 miles for love is a treat. And once you've trained a parrot to say something, don't ever expect to hear the end of it, lol. The Dutch began trading along the what is now the Hudson River in the early 1600s, taking advantage of the fur trade. The settlement begun on Manhattan Island was called New Amsterdam, but the colony was called New Netherland. Both became known as New York, and were taken over by the British. Some of the oldest houses in the United States (dating back to the 1600s) were built by Dutch settlers. The Hudson River Valley boasts some of the most beautiful historic homes, though most were built in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Flushing is located in the borough of Queens, in New York City. Isn't it interesting how these influences turn up all around the world? Delft tiles are so charming!
We once watched part of a series about architecture on S4C, the Welsh language Channel (this series helpfully with subtitles). They showed a house similar to the one in your love story. It , similarly to yours, was pegged. It too was moved, hence the phrase , "moving house" was coined. It wasn't unusual for families to do this, at least in Wales. Each piece of the house would be numbered so that, just like the old Airfix kits, it could be reconstructed!
I would have thought Skull&Crossbones on a gravestone meant that a Pirate was buried there...What would I do for love? Plan a Cornish walk that included some rotting Hulks.

Nice pub! Sarah :)
Very interesting even if somewhat sad and harrowing story. Thanks for sharing it with us.
A lovely walk with you. So varied and interesting as always with your informed commentary. Love your channel. ❤

Great video and Andrew I loved seeing you in a Clemson Tigers cap. Nice!!!
Wonderful and interesting video. I found out more about the Lavin family in the graveyard at St Gluvias Church. Lots of tragedy.
I don't know this part of Cornwall at all. Definitely looks worth a visit, so thank you for the video and walk details. We holidayed abroad this year and it was too hot to walk, so I really missed getting out for a good, long walk.
Too hot to walk would mean too hot for me! Sarah :D

Chelsea Flower Show one year, that was amazing! Sarah :)
Hi Sarah and Andrew, Did you know that the first flower you showed on your video is a Passion flower, great video, thanks ❤❤👍👍
Well spotted! It was intentional and I also included some roses in Flushing - the flower of love! Ioften wonder if anyone spots my little editing quirks/jokes! Sarah :)
I don't think I've seen a more well balanced couple than you two, you must still be very much in love.❤🧡💛

Hi Sarah and Andrew. I loved the stories of today's walk and the interesting grave yard.
Pumpkins on the steps in Penryn? oll an gwella from PZ
Anything (but I won't do that!) 😂
😂😂😂
What would I do for love? I would grow a big field of beautiful sunflowers!
How close is Flushing to Looe?
I live near Looe but don't drive much. I wanted to visit a place on a previous CWT video in Roseland which is in the Flusing area( sort of). It is about 37 miles from Looe to there so.....
Ps Google actually says 52 miles by A30.
A bit slower to travel between the two places at the moment with the roadworks on the A30. Sarah :)

It's 3k a year for moorings in flushing, and a two year waiting list.
Wow! But if you can afford £750k for the house then I guess £3k is lose change! Lol! Sarah :)

According to the architectural bible Pevsner, Cornwall edition, "a timber framed Wealden house from Kent was re-erected here c1919 by Joan Beech".

A beast of a boat! I actually find that sort of thing quite fascinating! Sarah :)
Not that.
