ESCAPE the CROWDS! - The MOST SECLUDED Place to VISIT in CORNWALL?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 сен 2024
- In our video today we show you a walk we have devised to show the different fortunes of 3 churches within close proximity. We pick up the South West Coast Path and enjoy sunning views of the coast towards the Lizard.
With lots of the usual banter, and a clutch of stories to entertain you there is bound to be something you didn't know!
Written walk instructions are available on Patreon and RUclips Membership. Please see details below.
The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film around Cornwall and publish videos on RUclips, usually weekly. Sarah collects sea glass to add to paintings of local scenes which are sold on Etsy. The channel is a hobby that we fit around family and normal day jobs.
Unfortunately we cannot answer comments coming in more than a week after the publishing date of the video.
Frequently asked questions:
Do we have meet ups?
We are limited for time because we fit the channel around our family and jobs. We meet up with people who are Patrons and RUclips members, both on group walks and one-to-one. If you join, you will be notified.
Unfortunately we do not have scope for further meet ups but if you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!
What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book title. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dogs, perhaps you can make up your own name for them.

Charming walk as always - your videos make my fridays !
Love the details you bring to us and the atmosphere you catch with your pictures.....
Have a nice weekend.
Thank you very much! Sarah :)
Many years ago. Before children were acceptable in some pubs. We asked if we could take our then baby in the pub. There was another family wanted to go in as well. The landlord kindly moved everyone so we could have a room just for us families. Such kindness. We've loved Cadgwith ever since.
Ahhh! What a lovely story! I remember being sat in the car! Sarah :)
Another enjoyable video - Time seems to have stood still in this one - Away from the maddening crowds, traffic jams and general chaos which seems to dominate our Cornwall these days. A good way to spend a Friday night with history coming to life once more. Well done to you both.
Thank you! A remote and quiet, little coastal village! Sarah :)
Glad you mentioned James Erisey on this visit to St Grada. He was my 14th gt grandfather. As you're aware he lived in the, since, rebuilt Erisey Manor. You can also find his 'coat of arms' in a case above the South door of St Melanus Church in Mullion.
Rodney bewes actually spent a lot of time in Cadgwith and use to drive a beaten up old mini to avoidable recognition while out and around cornwall
A heartwarming story that the community accepted him and he felt at home in Cornwall! Sarah :)
Great walk. You found some very nice Churches - sad to see some falling into ruin...
We said to each other off camera to make a note and return in a few years to see what happens to the building, Sarah :)
Met Sarah this morning in Probus. What a lovely lady, she stopped to say Hi,not knowing me from Adam. Funny, witty and friendly. Meeting her made my day. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
It's a wonder how these remote churches ever had a congregation, particularly the last one which is in the middle of nowhere. It's a shame it's not been turned into a residence. All it needs is a roof. So beautiful and tranquil. It's good to see that the first two are left unlocked. Most churches these days are locked up. It proves how remote these places are with few visitors. You are very good at doing research. Very interesting to see how the last church used to be. I fear that countryside churches will no longer be in use in only 20 years time.
Sadly, I agree. A building needs a purpose to continue, and church attendance is diminishing. I guess there are issues with consecrated ground and human remains, maybe?!? Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails Didn't think about the graves.
How I love the old churches in Cornwall. Thought I'd seen most of them until I saw this video! And visited most of the Holy Wells. The myth, the magic, the history...it's still there, hidden away and brought to us by your wonderful walks. Cadgwith is lovely. Had a drink in the pub there when we visited. Thanks for a great video again you two & the laughs along the way. x J x
I love visiting Cadgwith! Sarah :)
What a wonderful video, so peaceful there. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it, Sarah :)
Wonderful video , I love old churches especially the one on the way down to cadgwith ,I could spend hours going around the ones in Cornwall ,I always find them so good for the soul, even the ones that have been neglected,Thankyou both very much for all your hard work in keeping us entertained ,I save watching untill I have some piece and quite to enjoy it fully 😍
I so much enjoy your stories and walks to hidden little 'treasures'... ....
Thank you both ( and for your humour 😉)
Another great, entertaining walk from both of you. Sooo relaxing. My wife and I used to visit the churches around Somerset when we stayed in Brean, in the family static caravan. Very calming visits, that we really appreciated. This video brought those feelings flooding back. Thank you so much Andrew and Sarah.
We do love visiting an old church! Sarah :)
Lovely little place Cadgwith, we often stay at Kugger and love the beach at Kennack sands, just around the corner, great video as always both 👌👍👍
What is the correct pronunciation of "Kugger"?
@@mikeoglen6848 i have no idea 🤔
It does actually rhyme with the swear word! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails That's what i thought Sarah but couldn't think of a way of describing it. Well described 👍
@@CornishWalkingTrails Let's get Andrew working on a Cornish Pronunciation Guide...?
I’m pretty sure the yellow flowered wild plant is wild cabbage rather than oil seed rape. I used to think it was that too until I learnt otherwise. They are from the same family. I’ve only found your lovely channel today. I’m really enjoying it, you have a really pleasant style.
Oooo! Yes! You could be right about the yellow flower! Hope you enjoy more of our videos, thanks for your comment! Sarah :)
Thank you for another great story/walk ❤
You’re welcome! Sarah :)
Just finished lunch and settled into watching you both continue to walk around Cornwall. Many many thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks for showing us another beautiful and interesting place. Amazed that we haven’t been there before.
Our pleasure! Such a great vibe in Cadgwith! Really chilled and relaxed, Sarah :)
Thanks for this lovely, interesting, pretty walk. I love Cadgwith 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Sarah :)
Fantastic video, many thanks, Sarah and Andrew. Such interesting churches; I'm not religious, but to me they're such beautiful buildings, whether in use or a ruin.
I have Rodney Bewes to thank for a very brief appearance on TV many years ago: I was in Porthleven, where there were a couple of pasty shops next door to each other, and I spent a couple of minutes looking through their windows trying to decide which one to buy a pasty from. What I didn't know was that in the shop I didn't buy my pasty from, Rodney Bewes was doing some filming with local TV an article about his life living on the Lizard, and he was showing them where he bought his favourite pasties. When it was broadcast, one of my friends spotted me on TV outside the shop looking in through the window. I was clearly far too absorbed in my pasty choices to notice Mr. Bewes and the film crew inside!
Brilliant story! I hope you tried a pasty from the other shop too! Sarah :)
New subscriber here. Your videos are so peaceful. I've seen alot of Cornwall but it's lovely to see the parts I haven't. 😊
I really enjoyed this, thanks so much Sarah and Andrew.😊
Our pleasure! Sarah :)
Really interesting and beautiful video. All three churches are different, special and beautiful. I myself have only visited the blue tabernacle and the Devil's frying pan, but I would love to visit the other churches some time. Thank you 🥰 Torunn.
Hello Torunn! Glad you enjoyed the video and recognised where you have already been, Sarah :)
Tx ❤ my brain did not want to fokus when I wanted to hear the stores. So I will watch this again, not a bad thing😊
Some great stories in this video! We debated whether we should include them all! Sarah :)
Another wonderfully interesting video, What a stunning place Cadgwith is, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the very reasonable car park prices, this is how I remember Cornwall in general some fifty years ago, I always loved the coastal paths with all the wild flowers ….. lovely to see the completed tour of the beautiful churches etc., I like Andrews snazzy cool shirt it’s very eye catching! this is a great humorous walk about guy’s with entertaining stories, I agree with Andrew it’s quite a privilege to be part of that last churches history, yes I remember ‘The Likely Lads’ it was one of my favourite series at the time …. they don’t make nice good old comedy programs anymore sadly:) thanks 🙏 again both of you, take care until next time 🥰🥀🤗
I am glad you enjoyed it! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrailsYes I did, I’m not escaping the crowds today, I’m virtually in Central London supporting the Rally that has been organised for the patriotic people of Great Britain and all nationalities that believe in freedom of speech and want their country back, it’s a great turn out so far and very peaceful 🤞 take care and have a lovely day, Bernice 🤗
Thanks
You’re welcome and thank you for your donation! Sarah :)
I havent been to Cadgewith for about 20 years, it doesnt seem to have changed much, thank goodness! You have inspired me to follow your route one day - perhaps in September, when the visitors have gone home.
Having grown up on the Lizard peninsula I bumped in to Rodney Bewes a couple of times - not in Cadgwidth but in Porthallow nr St Keverne for some reason messing about on a fishing boat .. the walk from Cadgwith along the coastal path to Poltesco and on to Kennack Sands is nice.
We know that walk, we did it a couple of years ago, The 'thatched' village! A walk from Cadgwith, Cornwall to Poltesco Serpentine Works
ruclips.net/video/5O0hiZxsm2w/видео.html. Sarah /)
Remember bbc2's fisherman's apprentice with monty halls? This place became packed.
Once again a very interesting and informative video always an enjoyable watch.
Glad you think so! Thank you so much! Sarah :)
Hi there, oh l so enjoyed this video, thank you. Loved the churches and stories about them. Those stained glass windows in the last one are absolutely stunning. I loved the Serpentine alter how beautiful. All very interesting, and a beautiful walk. The cornish fishing villages are so beautiful. If you ever fancy a holiday in Scotland the fishing villages in Fife and Angus are also fascinating, just a thought. Thanks again.....Alioban ❤❤
I spent my young years (very young!) in Cupar in Fife and my favourite day trip was to Aberfeldy. I also remember taking the train from Cupar over the river to Dundee, where I remember Asda opening! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrailsOh thats so nice to hear, especially the Asda visit 😂😂 Thanks for sharung yoyr lively walks ❤
Classic CWT! ~ fascinating locations, real local history, stunning landscapes, characterful people & beautiful architecture. Just love very old churches, and it's sad to see one declining, especially to that degree at Ruan Major. That 'sleeping beauty', as Andrew aptly describes it, definitely needs a prince (of local heritage prowess) to come along, kiss it back to life, preserve, protect it, and come up with a new purpose.
Thank you both, very informative, an interesting walk through history too. Something to look out for on our next trip to The Lizzard. Recently back from staying in Pendeen village, a week wasn’t long enough sadly !
Our pleasure! Sounds good! Sarah :)
Another wonderful video, Andrew makes me laugh. I have Pengilly's in my ancestry, so time to do more research. Thanks so much for taking us to this part of the lizard. Best wishes to you both
Oh from the church memorial!!! That looked very grand - an important family maybe?!? Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails I think maybe a prominent family in that area. Looks like maybe that person's great-grandparents are where we share a link. So fun, thanks so much for sharing.
Great little pilgrimage!
As a Cornwall resident can I just say that these places are “secluded” because they are little known - Thanks to people like you they will soon be crawling with tourists
…..yeah, those things that keep Cornwall afloat! Bloody Emmets, eh! How many businesses are able to stay in business year in & out by closing all over winter with the money tourists choose to give Cornish businesses in the summer!
For some families this money is extremely hard earned and all they have spare. I despise the London elites and Hollyweird celebrities who buy 2nd/3rd homes and hardly use them, but give tourists a break, they genuinely love Cornwall and the people.
@@mkkravist11 wring again
Holiday let’s are owned by people & firms up country & the “emmets” all shop in supermarkets so if you think the sale of pasties & fudge is keeping Cornwall afloat then you must be more of a stpd cnt than you sound
Another fascinating vlog xx
Glad you enjoyed it! Sarah :)
been to my daughters for 3 wks, now a long catch up with you both
Put the kettle on, find a pet and settle in! Enjoy! Sarah :)
Its funny when I used to find secluded spots in Cornwall back in the 1960s, I would keep it to myself, for obvious reasons, but then folk were different back then.
I’m sure that Cadgwith will appreciate a mention, after all most Cornish businesses are tourism focussed these days. Sarah :)
Awesome job like and shared out in you tube community. ⌚
Thank you so much!! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails no problem more than welcome 😊
Another beautiful walk and video lovely churches enjoyed as always
Glad you enjoyed it, Sarah :)
I’m an ssi trained mermaid in Cornwall (Falmouth area) and your videos give me so many ideas for places to swim in my tail 🙂🧜♀️ x
And lovely places to walk too 🙂❤️ not explored much of this part of Cornwall x
Oooo! That’s really I interesting! I think we saw something on FaceBook last year about mermaids in Porthleven. Are you involved in a display group at all? Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails I’m part of the Cornish merpod since doing my training at porthkerris dive center but I’m still pretty new to it 🙂 just been building up my instagram and RUclips at the moment until I can do the ssi ocean section of the course 🙂 xx
we did this walk to Cadgwith a few weeks ago, mind the geese!
Thank you for your videos
Myself with and son have been visiting Cornwall every year for around 14 years
Summer and Christmas
We absolutely love the south from the lizard to Sennen
We always head to an area within that stretch
We are always walking to the hidden treasures and coves
I think we will try this walk when we visit in a few weeks
St Bryan this time
As a keen photographer, that derelict church looks very interesting
We are planning to move to Cornwall in a few years as we have fallen in love with this beautiful county
Great video, will definitely visit Cadgwith next time we are in Cornwall xx
Your video are fantastic please keep up the amazing work when you are able to do so 😍
Thank you! Will do! Sarah :)
Grada church. 140 years ago, now needs 140k for new roof. 1,000 per year.! ( inflation).
Good spot! Sarah :)
👌🙏💖💖💖
£3 to park!! Save me a space I’m on my way 😅
😂 I know! What a bargain! Sarah :)
Treat Andrew to a Gear Farm Pasty while on the lizard bleddy 'ansome.
Hello Both. Thank you for another most enjoyable vlog, in fact even though we live in S W France, you two have got us re-walking some of your included bits of the SWCP, which we completed at the start of 2003, whenever we can get to Cornwall. Btw, did you notice the couple of spelling errors on the info panel in the tin tabernacle around 1:34 ?
Our pleasure! Oh, I had a look and couldn’t spot the spelling mistakes! Must need glasses!! All I could see was the reflection of my spotty raincoat, Sarah 😂
@@CornishWalkingTrails Hi again, Sarah. If you look at the second line of the second paragraph I spotted the word 'if' instead of 'of' and 'build' instead of 'built'. David.
You have the Devils Frying Pan and in Wye, Kent we have the Devils kneading Trough.😂😂
Very interesting! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails 🤔 i wonder what other things around the home the Devil has👹 around the country..
HI Sahra and Andrew. A great interesting video as always. @ Sahra..I see that you are wearing 3/4 length slacks...arn´t you worried about ticks and adders when walking through long grass ?.
Thank you! No I generally don’t worry about ticks and adders. I’ve never had a tick but the animals have and we have a tick hook that removes them, and I have only ever seen 2 adders in my lifetime. I think the odds are in my favour! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails thanks for the answer

Well done, you’ve just ensured Cadgwith will be secluded no longer
Was Andrew sporting a bloodshot eye while filming this ? The whole area of the Lizard is wonderful, but ive still to see a Chough down there.
Yes! All the lifting and shifting he does at work! Sarah :)
Hi Sarah
Susan from Australia here and I watch all your videos! I was wondering if Foxgloves are endemic to England. They seem to be everywhere on the paths and I wondered if they have become a noxious invasive weed or they belong there?
They are native to the UK. They are noxious in the medical sense but not in the aesthetic sense.
@@dikl2689 thank you!😀
