    One detail I left out, I don't think players will actually be present for the ride back to jail, but could be remembering that wrong.

      Does that mean we're transporting a husk (and the player is essentially waking up in prison while transporting said husk)?

      Probably my main issue with this system. I don't like the idea of other players keeping me captive and preventing me from playing. I think it's fair for their enjoyment to have a copy of your character to role play their profession, but I hope the sentence starts the moment you are captured and it's not delayed until the bounty hunter gets around to hand you over.

    • @durtyred86
      @durtyred86 3 месяца назад +3

      Yes and no. You COULD ride it back and gamble that you're rescued/break out. Or like you said, you could go straight to jail but I'd imagine that forfeits your chance to escape. Which leads to the weird scenario where their crew might find you after your charge has chosen to go to jail? Not sure how they can handle that off the top of my head.

    • @CodeBlue18
      @CodeBlue18 3 месяца назад

      @@durtyred86 If they add mechanics that can allow you to break free, like gadgets to hack or send distress signals, that actually sounds pretty engaging. Perhaps there could be a deadline to hand over the captive for bonuses or to avoid penalties. This way you're not getting dragged around the system if you don't a have a crew to bust you out.

      I recall that as well. After being captured, you can surrender and go right to jail. Or you can gamble on your friends coming to save you or negotiate with the hunter. From a hunter perspective, I'm not sure when you surrender if they still transport the body back or what. (I think that once you are in the containment unit, you can surrender... Then the hunter just drops the containment unit off at the bounty station whether you are really in there or not).

    Honestly, why hasn't SC combined the bounty hunting and mercenary missions into a "Specialist" category or something like that? Bunkers, but with enemy ships patrolling the air space around them. Fight in then storm the bunker.

    • @Traumglanz
      @Traumglanz 3 месяца назад +2

      It kind of has done that with the increased density at points of interests. Sure the ships are from someone else bounty mission, but they still attack you while you try to land even if you are just the delivery guy. ;-)
      And to some degree this is actually good.

      I've had bounty missions that are fps that have roving patrols overhead. I snuck in in my Titan, took out all the ground patrols. Had just finished stripping bodies at my ship and a reclaimer showed up and started bombarding me. I barely got out alive. Was fun

    • @iKennectz
      @iKennectz 3 месяца назад

      I've played a lot of contracts exactly like this already. Grinding back through rep this patch and most MRTs were ground targets that were protected by a few ships or had a few ships spawn and attack my ship whilst I was on foot at a crash site looking for the ground bounty or cleared enemy turrets to assault the bunker with the the target in.

      while I don't disagree that CIG has always had communication issues, just because they are "working" or "grayboxing" a feature or model doesn't mean they know what the finished product will be or how it will work. Look at what happened with the Banu Merchantman, not only did the main concept designer leave CIG the entire concept of the ship hinged on tech that wasn't developed.

    the nemesis system (or something like it) makes bounty hunting sound really cool. The difference between having to catching someone lacking in a bar or treading deep into no rep territory to go get someone sounds tantalizing. Or having to decide between leaving someone be since they left that life behind or completing the mission as is.

  • @PhurPher

    I think CIG is doing exactly what they should be doing right now, as much as I hate to say it. They need to get the netcode fixed and server meshing implemented as priority number 1. This game still has I would guess another 5 years minimum, probably upwards of 10 in development. And a lot of these future systems are going to be predicated on having larger servers.
    They can't test these systems properly if players can't interact with them properly because the population size is far too small. Also, with the netcode the way it is, and the game in the state it is(actually releasable if it got polished), they're missing out on so much funding. There are so many people that would pay for and play this game as it is, if it's netcode/multiplayer wasn't borderline unplayable.

    Bounty hunting needs so many underlying tech and even interdependencies between those techs. Ranging from ship state after combats, the AI, the reputation, crime stats, etc. Now that pretty much everything is gonna be physicalized, the concept of the AI 'interacting' with the world, the world itself need to be stable enough for these AI doing procedurally determined script to be executed perfectly. We as human can do workaround, backspace if we got bugged out, etc. the AI won't.
    Personally, this one is the furthest away from realization, even beyond a rudimentary version of Quanta/quantum economy, because those are basically numbers that are produced within a set of rules. BHv2 on the other hand feels like a game on its own.
    Still, a great video as usual!

    Look... Don't get me wrong; bounty hunting is my bailiwick. And I don't mind having to do my homework to find a target, then track it in space, then track it through quantum, then track it in the ground, then capture it alive and bring it somewhere. But they *gotta* start paying me more than 5k to do it. I'm serious.

  • @samisuhonen9815

    I hope we still get a branch of bounty hunting. As assassinations or mercenary gameplay, where you just have to kill the target and bring back proof (like their head, finger, entire body, ID, etc.).
    It could pay less per target, but you could just go after more dangerous targets. I want gameplay where I hunt down targets. I don't want gameplay where I can't kill the target, and instead have to restrain myself and go easy on them.

    I've always been confused as to how capturing players is supposed to realistically work. Let's say someone gets a bounty on you can captures you and puts you in their ship pod. How long are you obligated to "play" locked in a pod in the back of someone's ship while the bounty hunter goes off and spends a few more hours collecting more bounties? Are you going to be accused/punished for combat logging if you don't have the time or interest in doing that?

  • @fauxtrot2010
    @fauxtrot2010 3 месяца назад

    As others have pointed out (and I just started the video, so it is likely mentioned there as well) BH v2 may be DOA unless there is a super cool fundamental feature missing: character slots and alternates. As others have studiously pointed out to me: you cannot prevent other players from playing the game, even if it is a part of the game system. This means that beyond a reasonable limit, you cannot maintain control of a player character after you've captured them.
    Having said this, if you gave the player another character to control while they are penalized for losing vs. a bounty hunter, now you have given them another option: stay and resist if the mechanics allow it, serve the term on the same character otherwise, or go play another character (that may eventually inherit your fleet upon the current character's (un)timely death. This is the single most overlooked mechanic. CIG doesn't talk about it any more. I don't know if it wasn't feasible, or it is just a big reveal waiting to happen. However, without this mechanic, no other mechanics make sense. For example, in medical, when you die, there is a process to regeneration that we don't talk about. Right now it happens instantly. Also, when your incapacitated, you wait for pickup. If you need a surgery to replace a limb, how long will it take. Same for criminality: when you do a crime, are you going to escape? If you choose to serve your time, how do you do it while 'playing the game?' Pick up rocks/fix O2 stations ad nauseum? The game loop you are stuck in (not the one you chose) is only interesting for so long.
    I'll shut up now and watch the rest of the vod.

    There's a huge problem with physicalizing prisoner transport. The game can't give the bounty hunter the responsibility to bring the captive to prison because what if they just don't? What if the hunter keeps you locked in a crate forever? Also you can technically put anyone in a box, not just criminals, so griefers can do it too.
    The only solution to this that I can think of is making prison a completely virtual system. As soon as you're put in a prisoner pod you wake up at klesher, which is just a virtual place. You remain there until your time is served and so on. And when you're freed you wake up back in the pod and it opens automatically.
    BHs have to deliver the pods to a specific facility in any station and you will wake up at that station if they've delivered it.
    If the BH has'nt delivered the pod, you will wake up in the pod and it will open wherever it is, even inside their ship. Just like timed cargo. The pod would display the time left on a panel outside and the BH needs to have in mind that you can get merits to lower the time. Once you're out, you don't have a crimestat and neither does the BH, but you're trespassing so you can be killed or just let out. The BH will only get the reward if they deliver the pod.
    Additionally, only people with a crimestat can be put in a pod. The pod just won't close it you're not a criminal. This prevents any kind of continuous griefing.
    The only possible griefing loop would be for a BH to take a bounty, capture them, put them in a pod and not deliver it, wait for the criminal to come out of the pod and then kill them. On the other hand, if the criminal wakes up inside the BHs ship without the BH realizing, they won't have any of their gear on them and might be in trouble if they try anything against the BH.
    Finally, this also opens up 2 cool things for prison facilities:
    1. it justifies hacking gameplay to help someone escape from the prison vr. The other way to free someone would be locating their pod in one of the facilities if it's delivered or interception the BH.
    2. it justifies the addition of glitches in the system that help you do cool stuff in jail and escape or have FUN there.

    • @farrout000

      If I recall, once captured (in the pod) the prisoner can surrender and go right to jail. I imagine the BH still needs to deliver the pod to get paid (Even though there isn't a PC in there). Otherwise if the prisoner wants to negotiate or have friends save them, they can wait to surrender to coordinate that.

      Red Dead Online dealt with this by saying the moment you were captured, the player went in to jail to spend their time (if you surrendered), while if you didn't surrender you'd have to go through the process of waiting and could try to break free. It gave the captured player the choice of 'fight or accept' essentially, and the bounty that was paid was based on whether or not the capture of the body was a lethal or nonlethal process. If only RDO didn't get fuckin abandoned by Rockstar for their sharkcard kiddies.

    • @polblanes
      @polblanes 3 месяца назад

      @@straidenlagh5237 That might be neat, the issue is CIG won't want to teleport the player to jail. But maybe a system where you can try to resist in some way would be interesting. If the only reason to not surrender is someone else rescuing you, people will probably always surrender in the pod.
      Let's see what they do.

    • @BigJohnno66
      @BigJohnno66 3 месяца назад

      Agreed, CIG will need to be very careful about any mechanic they introduce that allows one player to constrain another. I would go further and say that if the criminal isn't delivered within their sentence time, they are just teleported to the place where prisoners are normally released from. But I do like the idea that being imprisoned in a pod becomes a virtual imprisonment at Klescher. Maybe Klescher itself is just rows of pods and there is no physical work mine at all.

    I'm hoping that once a player is captured, they will be able to respawn at anytime throughout the process, and AI will take over the existing body, while the player will respawn into prison. Or the player can wait and hope for rescue from other players. It could be very risky to have too many bounties onboard your ship, as you'd lose all of them if the ship is destroyed.

    All the virtual ai stuff to me is overcooked. all i'd really want to be happy for a good long while is nonlethal, prisoner pods work, and dead or alive missions where i get a big bonus for bringing in the bounty in the pod. they can cook up the rest over a long while i just wanna use the prisoner pods

    Looking forward to the bounty hunting to become more realistic and immersive. Current bounty hunting feels like just a way to kill at will. Would rather have to capture someone like a real world bounty hunter. Even in the old west it was more profitable to bring someone in alive then dead.

    I love all this "tracking players" and PvP sort of stuff, but I really hope there is going to be solid PvE gameplay ... it gives the casual gamer (and that player base is absolutely required!) so much more to do.

    Yep. It's madness you gonna kill people left and right in the 'Verse as a "good guy" working for the CDF or Advocacy directly. They're UEEN backed militia and UEE FBI respectively, and neither should have the licence to kill.
    So I'm looking forward for Bounty Hunting 2.0. A lot of gameplay elements are required, as you said, but I'm sure there's always a fast track option if you do it with friends. And of course, we already have non-lethal knockdowns already - they can't be utilized right now 'though. Also you can get downed without getting killed (but you'll die if no one rescues you), while NPCs will simply die. Right now, NPCs and players don't play by the same rules, but one day Star Citizen may impose same rules to everyone, NPCs and PCs. Depending on how deep virtual AI goes, they may even need to eat, drink, have a home, their own hangar, inventory management system etc - and of course, they're people to that don't die that easily. They also may get downed and you may either detain them or leave them be. So the next time you're "cleaning a bunker", you may also haul their sorry 4sses to the next security check point and earn some money + reputation that way. They won't be happy for their time in jail, but they actually may be grateful you didn't leave to die either ...

    Bounty hunting V2 is getting the BMM treatment. It might be too close to having an actual gameplay loop if it and all the required sub systems were complete. It's hard enough to get a bounty target to spawn all the time even when they are just T posing in a random ship.

    I am mostly curious as to what someone is supposed to be doing during this “downtime”. Same with medical gameplay. Seems great but the loop is reliant on another player setting in a locked state for a prolonged period of time. How do you get people to want to look at a fading screen for 30 minutes during their play session?

    • @polblanes
      @polblanes 3 месяца назад

      not just that. BH is worse than medical. In medical, they can just let you die after a set amount of time but in BH the hunter can keep you in a box forever if they want. Any system you put in to prevent that will feel artificial and people will complain. And people will complain about CIG enabling griefing if they have to wait in a box... I can't imagine BH working in pvp.
      Edit: although it might just make people not want to do crime much, which is maybe good if we're talking about pvp crime?

    • @DistortedChrist
      @DistortedChrist 3 месяца назад

      @@polblanes I never thought about that. When waiting for a medic you at least have the option to backspace, for now. It would suck to start a play session and then within 10 mins be caught by a BH who pulls you out of play for over an hour.

    • @polblanes
      @polblanes 3 месяца назад

      @@DistortedChrist yeah... also getting hunted would be literally worse than death unless they add big penalties for death of a spaceman.
      Basically if you die and backspace, you lose your gear but spawn instantly. But if you surrender to or get hunted by a player they'll obviously steal your gear anyways plus you'll have to wait to be delivered to prison AND then serve xD
      Someone suggested a solution similar to red dead online where if you surrender you can backspace when you're in cuffs and unconscious and you're instantly in jail. The bh just transports your body to a delivery point even though it's nolonger a player.

    • @csdigitaldesign
      @csdigitaldesign 3 месяца назад

      There won't be much of any. Once you are captured you may have to deal with being put in handcuffs which would limit your movement and abilities but once you are put into a cryopod for transport to a prison you will be given an option to just accept the capture then it will instantly teleport you to prison leaving an npc stand in for you so the bounty hunter can finish turning you in.
      Of course there's no way for anyone to rescue you from the bounty hunter if you do that but it's there so you don't have to endure just sitting there not playing the game. This was all talked about by CIG years ago.

    This is why the Progress Tracker is/was, at best, useless. They had Bounty Hunting v2 work scheduled last year (or was it 2022?), and yet there was little work being done beyond cosmetic features like restraints, hovering bounty pods, and facilities. The real nuts and bolts of Bounty v2 were years away (and still are, possibly). Why wait until now to say so?

    all AI things are really utopic. It has taken almost 3 years to get the npcs to walk on the planets. And, they don't even do that well. The whole story of the simulated AI and the NPCs with real names and behavior is very good. But how do they want us to take that seriously if the AI is unable to move 10 meters without crashing into a wall, doing a pose in a chair or simply not moving at all.

    its cool and all but heres the issue i see at hand. Player already complain about anything that takes them more than 2 seconds to do hence why we now will have, logging out where u stand and reviving in any med bed.. so do they think a "wanted" player is gonna just watch you take them in.... no they are gonna backspace and move on. On the lawful side im sure most ppl gonna complain about doing any foot work on finding criminals and expect millions of UEC for doing so.
    Im sure CR expects DOASM to prevent backspacing criminals but at the end of the day what is DOASM really gonna do..... you wont lose anything other than the look of your character which happens every single patch anyway so i dont see it being the saving grace CR wants to make ppl Care if they die or not
