Well done. I bought this car used for my daughter couple of years ago and have never done any mechanical work on it. This video motivates me to change the oil myself instead of taking the car to the shop. Thanks.
Happy I could help! It really is easy to do if you have all the tools mentioned in this video. Also, If you buy your oil online from fcpeuro.com it will come with a lifetime warranty! Ship the old oil back to them when you’re done with it and get a full rebate. I will make a video on it soon 👍🏻 liquimolly is a great brand if not using genuine bmw oil
That’s amazing I’m glad I can help inspire confidence! That’s what I’m here for 😁 if there’s anything you’d like to see covered feel free to let me know
I've been having a problem with my bmw n52 where the car keeps reading the oil level at max. I recently replaced the oil level sensor and had to do an oil change along with it. I added 6 quarts and again the car is still reading max level. I suspect that this may be caused by an oil pan gasket leak but it scares me because despite the oil being leaked out the oil level reading is not accurate. Any thoughts?
Thanks! Glad it helped. 2 bits of advice for you, use the same oil your car has always used (5w30 for me). And buy from fcpeuro.com for their lifetime warranty even fluids! Only pay return shipping. I pay $20 an oil change 👍🏻
I have the same car except Xdrive on mine. I’m thinking about using 5w-40 what’s your input on that? I’ve read it has the same viscosity as 5w-30 at lower temps but operates better at high temperatures cause the 5w-40 stays a bit thicker
Hey thanks for commenting. I’ve seen/read the same info about switching to 5w-40 and don’t doubt what they say is true. But in my personal opinion I like just sticking with what’s recommended in your user manual - 5w30. I don’t think it will harm your engine to try right? Not true for the opposite.. you saw I used 0w30 here because my local bmw dealership is switching all cars to that. I believe it played a role in blowing my motor a month later.
I wonder if it’s cause your car was used to the 5w-30 for 225k miles then you switched. My car still has relatively low miles (78k) so I’m thinking it would be okay. I also see a lot of people recommending 0w-40 for the n55. Castrol in specific. Mainly because my nearest dealer is about 4 hours away and I’m wanting to change the oil asap and would rather find oil I can pickup locally and more affordable. If you wouldn’t recommend either of those what would you recommend for 5w-30 other than bmw? Castrol makes 5w-30 if you think that’d be okay
He did not.. and I wouldn’t recommend it because I strongly believe that it’s part of what caused me to throw a rob bearing. My car being high mileage and use to 5w30 all its life

I’m sorry but I’m really not sure! Wish I could help.. have you checked any forums? That’s a good place to start. Good luck!
Have you reset the oil change alert system? There are videos on RUclips showing how.
Great video ! I'm definitely ready now to do my own oil change ! 👍😊

Same, not bad bud
Did he mention why bmw is switching to 0-30?

Yeah I was about to mention bad lubricant for that type of engine… great content.
@@victordelarosa589 yepppp, just stick with what your user manual recommends haha. Thanks man
