We are planning to RV full-time in record speed - 2 months. Not a dream or retirement goal - still raising kids. We are leaving the rat race and right sizing our life. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I'm in the middle of this now. Good tips. I know exactly what you mean about putting stuff off. I'm chipping away each day. It's amazing how heavy paper is! My recycle container was barely movable! I need to shred some stuff too. It's the little oddball things that slow me down.
This is GOLD! We are just beginning our journey. Watching youtube. Following FB pages, searching rv lots etc... I am DONE with this 3,000 sq foot home. It has been a perfect home for 20 years raising and homeschooling our children. However, I am absolutely overwhelmed with how to get from this to an RV. Thank you!
Hi Sharon! So glad we could help! Downsizing can definitely be an overwhelming process. Try not to let it stress you out too much. Just keep your eye on the prize and do a little bit at a time. The end result is so worth it!
I'm itching to get started but first I have to organize a bunch of historical stuff for a museum. I'm so afraid that I'll forget something important. Just the other day, I realized I should include two shoe lasts that should be included in the collection. They've been on display in my living room for years and I didn't even think of them. I'm starting with pictures to see what they want. Wish me luck!
GREAT TIPS! We are planning 8 to 12 months out. We Have downsized from 5000 to 2400 4 years ago, but we sold so quickly that we didn't do near of enough decluttering then. Our original plan was 2 years, but now moving that up to 8 months to a year as my husband just kicked Cancer's Butt with a Bone Marrow Transplant and time to make it happen.
These are such important points. We are watching and making list so we don't forget. Our plans are very similar. We downsized into a 600sq ft apartment first. Now we are planning to move into an RV park. Thank you for sharing. Lou & Angie 💚💜
Hey y’all! We know a few other folks who downsized into an apartment first. Do you feel like that made the process easier? Or in hindsight, would you rather have moved just once? It seems like there is good/bad to both ways. Would love to hear your thoughts on your process when it’s all said and done. Thanks! 😁
@@rvamericayall For me (Lou) it worked. I'm much more emotionally attached to things and it allowed me to process the "letting go". Angie could have gone from our towmhome to living in a van. She just wants to get out and adventure now. I'm a planner & researcher, I find security & comfort in preparation. Lou💚
Great advice. When we decided to sell the house and live Full-Time in an RV our plan was first to clean out the house. If we had not used something it 6 months to a year it went. We let our children pick through everything they my want. Next we donated, donated and donated more. What we had left we put in storage, which is a lot of tools and furniture. However after a year of full timing it we now are working on selling a lot of the stuff in storage we just don't need. You will be surprised on just how little you really need. It is a much simpler lifestyle and we love it.
Thanks for video, my wife and I are downsizing 3 bedroom to 1 bedroom at end of year and then boondocking for 6 months out of year in 27 ft 5th wheel. Great tips. We'll,keep watching
It definitely is a "process" and it will take you more time than you think! Just went from 4500 to 2000 and this year will go to 350.....having just finished the first part I must say it feels good.....like losing weight.....and at the same time you realize how much "time "out of your life you spent earning the money to buy all the "stuff" only to get rid of it to feel better) ....it truly is empowering....
Jim from Pittsburgh we are inspired by your videos we are retired and started getting rid of things just in case we decide to make a change. You guys are great and I wish you nothing but the best. Be careful out there
I retire in 2 years, and my husband and I are planning to be full timers. Tom, I am like you - looking forward to making new memories and having new adventures. Stacie, I so appreciate all of your tips about downsizing and organizing. I am feeling that now may be a good time to start this process.
We started downsizing over a year ago and still feel like we have a long way to go. We start full timing this summer. We are running out of time. If you are leaving in 2 years, definitely start downsizing now.
Hey how's it going this is Mike from Highway 71 RV Park in Cedar Creek Texas just wanted to let y'all know thank you for all the downsizing knowledge I'm having a problem with that myself and y'all put that to ease for me I really appreciate it and safe travels
Hey this is Mike again from Highway 71 RV park I just had a question I have a lot of really large trophies and I no longer have my lowrider car or lowrider bicycle that I show but I do have all my trophies and yes they are taking up a lot of space what is the best option for that do you think I should get rid of them to make more room if so let me know
Thank you Tom and Stacie, this is great information for everyone, you guys have the best advice. I really wish the best life for both of you. Thank you, always enjoy your channel. Your good people. Blessings. Don
We decided to live in a RV full time like 6 month ago, it gone a take like 1 1/2 year more but we already started down sizing. My house is a 3,000 sq ft too. The funny part is we don't have a RV so is gone a be a big change and a new experience.
Hi Sonia! Yes it will be a big change, and it will be a challenge. That’s a lot to downsize. But doing a little bit at a time starting now will definitely make it easier. Have fun shopping for your RV! Keep us posted.
Great content. We retire in 4 years and will go full-time so we need to start getting more agressive. Thanks for great videos. I'm looking forward to see your travels!
Downsizing is helpful, even if you're not planning to move. We've saved a lot of time on maintenance and cleaning (not to mention money on purchases) by downsizing.
Oh this video hit the spot for us you guys!! Vicki and I are in the early stages of our downsizing so we can be out on the road by October. You had great tips that we will be following. We realize that we will have a few things that we will have to keep, but the majority will go. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge. We'll buy dinner and drinks when we meet up.
Sounds great Rod! We learned a lot from this experience. Glad to share what we learned. Hope it helps you and Vicki. Keep is posted on y’alls progress!
Another great video and some awesome tips!! I will be keeping these in mind as I continue to do my downsizing. I most definitely agree with the starting early and keep moving foward. Some days it feels like you are going in the opposite directions but any action is better than no action at all!!! Safe Travels!!
Welcome Denise! Thank you so much! We are glad you found us. We adopted Star from the Houston Humane Society. We don’t know for sure what her breed is. We think she’s a black mouth cur. She’s a great pup. Thanks for joining us, and please keep us posted on your journey!
New sub here! You guys are a great couple. Have watched your videos before during your transition. Going full-time later this year downsizing 2000 sq ft home to 24' RVand appreciate the tips.
Great video guys..we are excited to go full time 😔3 yrs.. for my husband to retire.. You are so so right..ITS JUST STUFF!!🤣..hugs from Weatherford Tx..🤗❤
soo very helpful. 2 years for me, and I got a lot of stuff. So, something every day has to be cleared out. One shelf or another....lol...What a great way to start!! Thank you. They already see me coming at the local thrift store that benefits our local foodbank. I went into my back room and figured out I had five sets of luggage....lol...I asked for it at Christmas one year, and ended up getting five sets from various people...lol...Only one set did I use...lol...
Hey Jackie! That is hilarious! We have this image in our heads of all your luggage. 😮 lol We all have something like that. When you have the space, you don’t think about it. We were amazed by how much stuff we had in our house. A little bit at a time is a great way to go. And those 2 years will really give you time to think about what you want to take with you. Keep us posted on your progress!
Great video and tips. Definitely can relate to tip #1. Took us about a year of pre-planning. Gave most of our stuff to friends, neighbors, and Salvation Army. Have a great day! 😀🌈😀🌈😀
Great video! Great job. Thanks for the good tips on how to downsize. I think that you did it the right way by living in your Rv first. It is really hard to part with a lot of things. I collect dolls. It will be hard to part with them. I think I would ask a family member to hold onto them. Yes it will be hard. You really have me thinking about it. Star looks so happy and relaxed. Thank you so much, your videos are great. Have a great week.
Thanks so much Ruth! It is definitely challenging to let go of some things. It would be great if a family member would hold onto your dolls for you. That would make it easier.
I hope y’all are in process of selling your house! We are in the process of purging a bunch of junk and giving the kids their stuff now that they are married! Cleaning out is therapeutic!
Maybe a new term is needed instead of "Down Sizing". True, much of the stuff you accumulate has to go when you move to a smaller space and this is down sizing. But when you are in this smaller environment now you go into "Regulation Mode". You don't have that luxury of putting it somewhere and not worry about it.
Excellent, excellent video!! Having gone through the downsizing process ourselves this year your points ring so true. Folks that are 2+ years away from downsizing should watch this - although even 3-6 months out would find benefit from your tips. Have you read or seen anything about the Marie Kondo - Japanese based tidying and decluttering? It helped us first with downsizing and now keeping our small space more tidy. She has a book and now a show on Netflix - "Tidying Up". Your main point of starting as early as possible is the best tip of all.
Hey Guys! Glad you're finally "on the road"... Another great video and advice from a pair of seasoned downsizers. We will be going from 6,000+ Sg Ft to about 300 as well. We're about 6 years from our full time dream and heeding your advice now so hopefully when the time comes it won't be so overwhelming. We have a 36' Thor Class A but not sure that size will work for us. Been looking at the Tiffin Breeze also. I know you mentioned this earlier when you purchased your Breeze, but do you miss the onboard washer/dryer like you had in your Thor Palazzo? Love to hear some feedback on that subject as that is our dilemma as we are researching our next coach . Looking forward to watching your new adventures! Good Luck, Be Safe and God Speed!!!
Hey Art! Good luck on your downsizing. Hope our tips can help make it easier for y’all. We love our Breeze. So far the lack of washer/dryer has not been an issue since we have had easy to access to laundry. That won’t be the case for the next few weeks so this will be a good test. Will keep you posted.
By the end of this month. My fiance and I will be living in a RV, Stationary. Anyone have any tips? Like getting used to the "plumbing" and small space?
We are trying to do that now. Our daughters want us to save all this furniture and boxes keepsakes but when will they come get it? So...I know what my parents felt like trying to get us to take things they didn't want to keep any more. It's not easy but better to do it now than later!
Awesome you sold your vehicle to Carmax. I work for the Dayton, Oh location. Working on my downsizing, went from 4 bd 3 bath full basement to a small 2 bed 1 bath apartment a couple months ago. Our plan is to go full time rv in 3 yrs when I retire. Gotta purchase the rv between now and then.
We had a great experience with Carmax, Brenda. Smart move to downsize to an apartment 1st. It will make it easier on you next time. Have fun RV shopping!
