  • Little video clip at the request of a fellow cub cadet collector; The5upermann1. This is a video showing the rare pto clutch and mower kit on a Cub Cadet Original comparing it to the standard mower setup on an Original. As always thanks for watching. Don't forget to like comment and subscribe if you haven't already.

    Excellent video! It is nice that you are able to do a side by side comparison. I had no idea that the pto upgrade also required the newer style mower deck. Thank you for making a video of it! Great tractor collection!!

      The5upermann1 Thanks a lot, This is the only the 2nd Original I've ever seen with the kit. Mine was the first and when I got it It didn't have a mower. Thus I really had no idea what it was until I did some digging. I had to track down and buy the deck and mower assembly separately, hence why they aren't painted yet. Should be fixing that this spring sometime hopefully.

    I rebuilt quite a few of those new style clutches, when I worked for IH. You needed a really thin 7/16 wrench to set it up, and a really good Allen wrench to remove the clutch.

    i have a 1961 original with the same setup as tractor #1 and i thought that was the way they were all setup. i did not know that they put the slightly more modern deck and pto setup on the original. i actually like mowing with my original. my two machines take turns mowing. i also have a 1948 farmall cub with a C3 60" belly mower. they both get used some. the timed deck actually does do a good job mowing, with the blade overlap.

      Yea I have never tried mowing with either of these ones. My 1961 Original has a cracked pulley on the mower actually. I have a 48 Cub as well but mine has the 42" Woods.

      perhaps tractor supply would have the pulley you need. it wont be a cast iron pulley, it would be stamped steel but they very likely might have a pulley that is the same outer diameter and the same inside crank diameter. my mule drive pulleys were shot but i got replacements from tractor supply for $15 each. the arent cast iron like the originals but they fit and work perfectly.

      The one that cracked on the 1961 is one of the aluminum drive pulleys that are serrated for the belt.

      those are damn expensive. i know exactly what you are talking about. i have a friend of mine that has piles of cub cadet stuff, i was lucky he had a decent pair. i know cub cadet warehouse has those brand new but its something absurd like $500 for a pair.
      those pulleys are not easy or cheap to source. if they cheapened up on one thing when they produced these tractors it was those pulleys. if they were made out of cast iron they would have lasted forever.
      those pulleys are like an Achilles heel when it comes to getting one of these tractors mowing again. there aren't many of them left

    On the left side of the steering column cull on your 61 there is that white steel piece with the keyhole like notch. What is it? I have the same thing on my 62 original.

      It was a bracket for the engage rod on a snowthrower.

      I have a 61 with the PTO on the front of the motor. The PTO engage rod runs on the left side of the tractor through the mentioned keyhole bracket. I was a bit surprised when I saw the linkage on yours.

    Thanks for the video. I have all the components of the optional PTO kit for my Original except for the engagement lever (the flat triangular piece of metal next to the lift arm). Would you be willing to send me the measurements of this lever so that I can make one for my tractor. I doubt that I'll ever find one. Steve.

    Can those 70s style clutches be replaced with an electric clutch?

    • @tractorhead04
      @tractorhead04  4 года назад

      I am really not sure, I would assume it is possible to maybe do it, but I am not positive on if they will fit with the crankshaft length and all that.

    What are the chances of having the newer deck on a 61 O but not the pto clutch ?? I recently picked up a later 61 Cub O that had the cast ended deck on it with the mower carriage and everything but not the PTO clutch kit and no signs of one ever being on that cub?? I have the timed deck for an O that I was planing to put on it but found out the deck set up was rare but I was missing the best part of it.

    • @tractorhead04
      @tractorhead04  7 лет назад

      Hmm that I dont know. Does it have just the regular front pulley on it or nothing? The Pto kit also has the engagement handle that would be on the right side of the dash as you were sitting on the tractor.

    • @FullMetalFab
      @FullMetalFab 7 лет назад

      It has a double pulley on the engines output shaft and no handle on the dash tower. Just the newer deck and carriage.

    • @tractorhead04
      @tractorhead04  7 лет назад

      Hmm sounds like someone put the newer deck stuff on not knowing what else the needed likely then.

    We're do you run you're engine number google? I need to run my engine number mine is a k161s

    • @tractorhead04
      @tractorhead04  7 лет назад

      What are you trying to find the year of the engine? Starting in 1965 Kohler started running letter codes in the serial number of the engine to identify the year. I am not 100% positive how or where to decipher the serial numbers on pre-1965 engines.
