Wow, the vid we all waited for!
Is there a plane that you suggest for a starter??
Oh and watch out, some of them woud fly spontanously from your lawn😀
You can’t go far wrong with a gentle lady. It’s a simple build and flies great.
@@SlopeRCGliders agree 100%
It has been around for many years ..I cant imagine how many pilots learned to fly with a Carl Goldberg "Gentle Lady"
A nice kit that is easy to build and keep things simple , yet it flys beautifully.
A great recommendation!!
@@newueelnavmip
In the early 1980's, I was the counterman at a mom and pop hobby shop.
Two kits we kept in stock at all times were the Goldberg Eaglet 50 and the Gentle Lady.
Although both are good, solid designs. the kits themselves were not what I would call, "well executed."
I found the die-cutting and parts fit to be sub-standard.
Wood selection also leaves much to be desired.
That being said, once you've overcome the kit's glaring drawbacks, you will end up with an excellent flying glider.
My suggestion?
The Airtronics Olympic 650 or Oly II, if you can find them.
Machine-cut and sanded (no die-crunching), beautiful, hand-selected "blonde balsa" and straightforward designs, make these kits a joy to build.
And, they fly great!
If you're lucky enough to find one, pay whatever they're asking.
@@richarddarlington1139 I produced kits at Mark's Models (later Dynaflite) for four years. We were able to mitigate the effects of "die crunching" somewhat by periodically replacing the razor rule and by soaking the balsa sheets in water before pressing them. As many parts as possible were saw cut or router cut or sanded using jigs instead of die cutting. I have fond memories of my time there and of working with Mark Smith.
John, thank you so much, every time my wife says: "You have too many models"..... I show this video, you are the savior of our souls ......God bless you....
This video is one of the most helpful ones ... I showed it to my wife ;-) ... no more comments from her side since then :-)
I showed it to my wife to, her only comment was that I lovely garden John has!🤨
My wife saw your collection, I told her it was average in number...the nagging has stopped...Cheers mate, you are a star. 👍🇬🇧
I have this problem with the addition of rocketry lol
"Love Me, Love My Gliders" 😊
Nevermind hoarding toilet rolls and hand sanitizer, John's hoarding gliders!! Great video, thanks for posting. As someone else said here, I thought I had too many rc's but I feel better now!!
What ever John has, it's contagious! Beautiful collection!
Thankyou so much for showing us your your wanderful collection and mancave !!!😉🙃😎 NZ
An amazing collection of wonderful birds. Thanks for taking the time to share and provide details. ♥
Fillons Champion is my favourite..Years ago when I was a teenager, we flew Single Channel and an older gentleman who is no longer with us built this beautiful unique model. Unforgettable really, a true classic..🤔🤔🤔😀😀😀😷😷😷😷😷
John, your followers will petition to have your flights and videos classed as essential services. That way we all have our moments of peace to look forward to during the lockdowns.
Outstanding John,very well done,and very organized .
You have and excellent, and distributed hangar.
I salute your hobby 😘
A man after my own heart, there's NOTHING better than a 6meter glider, a fully charged battery, a 5gallon bucket with ice and a twelve pack in it and 2/3's of a day and sit there all day long traveling from thermal to thermal virtually speced out... Lord brings back some of my best memories. What I would give to spend a day with my head and plane in the clouds.....geeze
Beautiful workshop, I loved the video so much.
Have so many, I wish I could have only one, like that lazy bee. Too bad we don't have them down here. 😢
Congrats buddy, You've got so many!!! 👏👏👏
Watching you fly and listening to the music is the most relaxing thing did I can find during the day I think you're at totally amazing as I am 86 years old and have been flying model airplanes since I was about eight I can really appreciate your love an effort that goes into what you do God bless you fly safe oh and don't fall off the cliff Herbie said that
Thank you so much. I’m so,glad you enjoy the flying!
Thank you John, loved the tour. The planes filling the back yard was almost as beautiful as watching you fly them. After some 15 yrs flying foam/plastic/carbon fiber......I’m itching to get back to balsa building. Happy flying!
I can't imagine what the six people that gave you thumbs down were thinking. Beautiful models and videos. Thanks
Me too. Just jealous...
Finally the long awaited behind the scenes video! You have something for everyone, from simple foamy flying wings to the beautifully crafted Champion. I'm always amazed by your prolific building schedule. You keep cranking out beautiful gliders for everyone to enjoy. I particularly enjoyed listening to your description of each glider.
John woodfield, the glider magicien
Thanks so much John, we loved the tour of your shop, and descriptions of your gliders. Bob
Hello John !
This is the best way I could possibly start my Saturday morning . Thank you for making these videos ! .
Will-
Connecticut , Northeast United States.
Thanks Will, from sunny Cornwall U.K.
WoW !🤓 it’s even hard to believe that so many gliders belong to one person.
Beautiful view .
It would be nice to see them all fly.
Thank you for video 👍😎
What an amazing collection of beautiful classic model gliders. Thank you for showing them all.
Thank you.
John, you’re a living inspiration to all modellers worldwide.
Blessings and congratulations from Calcutta.
Thank you so much.
RC and aero modelling stuff are very very difficult to get here.
Perhaps because the number of modellers is so low.
I had to travel to Henry J Nichols, London, to buy my 1st RC set !
Ridge lift therapy Master, they all give to the peace and tranquility of flight...... and my ridge lift therapy. Again giving the creative builder a good look..... Inspiring.
Absolutely one of the best videos you have done. It is so inspiring to see your skill, passion and creativity on display.
Thanks Allen!
Hey Allen, what happened to all your content?
Hello from PR, Wow, awesome glider collection, all are beautiful, and like very much those cover with clear monokote, to see the perfect construction!!
I feel privileged to say that I have had the pleasure of seeing that workshop in the flesh. Keep up the good work John. Fingers cross there might be a kit coming your way soon
Thanks Nick. All sounds exciting! Hope things are all good with you and the family.
All aeromodellers around the world dreaming with this hangar John 😍😍 , all models close similar and quite different at same time! Too many hours very well spent! LOVE your dedication and passion you put in the gliders! NO MOTORS HERE!! 👌👏👏, minucious builder and great pilot and person!
Congratulations for your work John! Best Regards from Spain 😎✌️
In these turbulent times inspiration to stay home and enjoy our hobbies is very important for all of us. Gliders are not expensive, require no motors, in flight hardware can be moved from plane to plane easily with a bit of planning while building. Keep up the great job at communication the love for flying simple models. Thank you Sir.
Thank you.
Wow, That was wonderful, Now I don't feel so guilty for owning a dozen. Thank you!!!! Loved it.
Wow, fantastic. Thanks for showing this. I have a 42 year old Airtronics Aquila in my storage room. Great video.
Very impressive collection of birds.
Thankyou sir what an amazing collection of gliders that you have built, and built up I'm sure we all appreciate the effort and amount of work and time you have put into the hobby and continue to do so for our and your pleasure and also for your good ladys filmograghy skills in making your flights look effortless, and I and I'm sure (we) all hope that you and your good lady continue to do so, with my very best regards from Alan in south Yorkshire, stay safe and healthy ❤❤👍👍🤗
Thanks Alan. My wife likes getting praise for her video skills.
@@SlopeRCGliders Those are simply gorgeous videos!
awuma thank you!
Mate that was impressive. Not only a top pilot but builder and designer. I’m fascinated by the invader. Thank you.
Thank you John, what a magnificent collection! You are an inspiration to us all.
More of the Fillion is always welcome, but I will watch whatever you post. Seeing more of your workshop would be grand as well.
Let me know when a nearby house goes for sale!
🖖😎👍
Thanks for the tour John, each plane you showed us is just as beautiful as the one before it. You are a great builder and pilot and blessed to have such a beautiful flying site as well.
Thank you!
Obviously not only a Hobby!
That’s definitely true passion combined with talent.
Very interesting to watch/listen to. =)
John you are an Inspiration to us all. The log books for each must be crammed with information we all need to keep track of you might care to share how you capture and store the critical information for a successful next flight? Building to your regular “fling field” also ensures you have fun as well as maintaining a safe environment. Thank you. While we are in social isolation there is no reason why we should not be in the work shop and building, repairing etc.
Thanks for showing. Fantastic collection. Such craftsmanship.
Possibly the best video on RUclips right now. Thank you so much for sharing all of this!
Thank you for watching!
Wow, you have lifted many sullen hearts with your flying videos and now hangar tour. Truly therapy for those that can't get out to fly and so relaxing to watch too.
Nice set up John ,your workshop is every pilots dream ,
I so admire your craftsmanship and dedication to exploring ideas around soaring modelling. It is good to see someone who has this addiction to a near extreme level. Thank you for the tour of current inventory and your workshop. All the best in your future endeavours!
Thanks Bob.
I want to see them all flying at the same time! 🥰
An Amazing Collection Of Beautiful Birds! Thanks John For Tour...
Thanks so much for doing this video John. Your flying is magic, your hangar inspiring. I hope you and your family stay safe and well. Your videos are a ray of sunshine in these otherwise dark and uncertain times. Cheers mate, from North Carolina, USA!
What an impressive Gaggle of birds these are WoW John you were busy!!!
That was very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing! My favorite is the first one you revealed.
Now THAT was the best way I could have possibly started my Saturday morning !
Thank you John !
Thank you!!
Nice to see a different side to your videos . . Yes always love your flying bideos
Keep up the great work
Probably the most interesting video I've ever seen on You Tube. Thanks. (OK, I am an aeromodeller.) The biplane is still my favourite. And, again, the camera work was a lot less challenging than the flying but the gentle move and pan did justice to the content.
Thank you!
Wow! Awesome to finally see them all at once, what an amazing collection! Thanks John!
It stressed me out watching you place them all on the lawn... so glad you didn't trip and fall into them! 😬
Fantastic work! Amazing quality in construction and relaxing excellent vídeos. Best Regards!
Thank you!
John,just one more thing,any chance you could do a video of a build,covering a few points.Current adhesives,and different applications,balsa selection,radio installation and advice,covering, C of G for scratch built models ect.Think it would make a interesting video.
Brings back fond memories. I loves gentle slope gliding at beach cliffs. But now my area has becomes aggressive lead sled style of flying. You have to stay away from the cliff edge or they will plow thru your plane. I’ve had to ask permission to fly thru to set up a landing. I’ve even had them say NO!
I finally sold all my rc stuff. But I still have the memory’s.
Thoroughly enjoyed that John! Love your videos. Very nice collection you have there! Would love to see a video series from design to maiden flight. You are a skilled designer, builder, and pilot.
Thank you!
Thanks, John. I enjoyed that. On a different topic, I was surprised - as usual - to see how far on your garden growth is. On the west coast of Scotland we're about 3 weeks or so behind you. This lockdown has had me checking my diary for memories of interesting flights etc. I note that in 2018 we woke up in our motorhome on 5th April in a car-park in Tyndrum to find it had snowed fairly heavily. It's at an elevation of 780 feet and is at the start of the climb up onto Rannoch Moor This leads on to Glen Coe and there are snow-gates at either end as the road is sometimes blocked by up to 30 foot snow drifts. After a Black Pudding and Egg roll breakfast in the local Caff we spent some time walking in the area - the West Highland Way - and the sun came out in the afternoon. So it was lunch in another eatery - Spiced Parsnip soup and savoury scone, tea and flapjack - followed by a seat in the sun outside the camper, with a good book. And a snooze. A perfect end to the day came with a Hercules coming directly over us at VERY low height, maybe 200 feet, obviously practicing nap-of-the-earth flying. This, in that area, is well below the surrounding mountain tops and involves sinuous flight paths, significant banking and elevation changes. What could be a better end to the day than that? Knowing the area, I looked back down the flight path and, sure enough, Hercules No2 was right there! Magnificent. To celebrate, we ended up at our breakfast café for tasty Haddock & Chips followed by the 40 mile trip to home. 5th April 2019 wasn't anything like as interesting, but 2 days later I note that "Ducky" returned. He's a male Mallard who arrives about this time. He's been here for 4 consecutive years. We have a largish pond in our garden and he likes to come in at a ridiculously steep angle and splash down bang in the middle. He makes a terrific noise whilst dropping, as if to warn us that he's here and he wants FED. We keep some grain for him and he obviously enjoys it! We know it's the same duck because he waddles up the stairs to the front door and raps on the glass to let us know it's time to eat. He sleeps on the brick edge of the pond and disappears two or three times a day, usually returning in the early evening. Once he brought a female with him, but she didn't stay long at all. It fascinates me to watch him flying as I am particularly interested in STOL model aircraft. He's a master at that - he will call to us from almost vertically overhead at considerable height and them make something like a 60 degree approach to the pool! Take-off can be similarly exciting, but he can also show off low-flying skills by taking off from the pond, flying through our opened garden gate (in a 6 foot high panelled fence), dodging round the camper and off down the street and round the right-angle bend at the bottom, all at less than head height. I DO hope he visits this year, to make 5 in a row. See what you and your missus' videos do to us lesser mortals?
Hi there Max, I think you win the award for the longest comment on one of my videos! It made for good reading. Interestingly Spring moves North at 1.9 MPH, so you can see how we are earlier on than you.
My wife probably likes real aircraft more than me and will always look up when she hears plane. We often go on holiday to North Wales specifically to photograph the low flying jets. There are certain pinch points where you can climb up the mountains and see the jets scream past at the same hight, or lower than you. Some days you can sit there and not see anything . Other days you get lots of passes buy Hawks, Hercules, Typhoons (used to see Tornadoes as well) and American F-15 etc. I know the feeling you are talking about, when a plane comes over nice and low. Over the years we have got some amazing photos.
Nice gliders ! Always enjoyed flying gliders, good job. Nice to see someone who enjoys building.
This is what transparent MonoKote was invented for! Beautiful models!
The Champion is stunning! All are treasures! Thank you for sharing!
Great Video, Great constructer....Bravo John
Great to see a hobby become a passion. Nice stable John
Thank you. It’s always evolving. I’ve sold half these models now and have built several more.
Impressive and beautiful. Regards from Mexico. Part of happiness is reached by accomplishing things (projects), it is not related to buying things. Congratulations.
Thank you for the tour and the inspiration! Not far from the Pacific so I'll be giving sloping a go soon!
wonderful John, thank you for uploading this, very enjoyable, in lockdown here in NZ as you are, but the weather is so good here nipped out to a field and flew my Bird of time ( wooden) 3.5 mtr thermals where rocketing! it was a tonic, happy landings :)
Hey Stephanie, get out there and fly more with xjet and company
This is the video I've been waiting for. Thanks!
A very impressive collection, thank you for sharing.
Great to see your labor of love, John ! A true builder and flier ! Way to go ! Words cannot fully convey my respect for you !
Thank you!
Isolating with CoVid19 and your model planes was very interesting. You are a master craftsman and I like how you can see the beautiful structure system. If I had one with long wings when I wasn't using it, it would be nice to hang from the ceiling as I like the graceful structure. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching, so glad you enjoyed it.
I've wondered what your shop might look like before.
Thank you very much for sharing with fans.
Magnificent John,lovely collection of models.
I thought I had a problem! Now, that's an addiction! But a very fine collection of beautiful models. I look forward to your videos.
Great video. Thank you for sharing! Your videos definitely make us want to get out on the slope again!!!
😱💯Wow! Thank you for sharing! I have been enjoying your video's on glider's! Very impressive 👍 Semper Fi!
I would love to be your neighbor and watch these ships come to life at the hands of such a master modeler. Well done, I enjoy your creative genius!
Thank you!
Beautiful Video! Thank You For All That Work of 'De' Glidering' Your Hanger/Garage! Whew! - Love Your Backing Track and Calm Voice Cadence'🔣 Gave My 56' Ep Home Kit Sloper' and The Radio! 'Wtf?' Away years ago- and I do Miss it Much! Your Video Got Me Drawing Hybrid Wing Shapes and Inspires Me Back To Affordable RC Flying!👍✈🌈✌
Awww the gentle lady....one of my first planes when I was a kid 30 years ago. I put a cox engine on it and had a blast. I wish I still had it
Thanks for posting this. Very enjoyable.
Thank you so much for this... it's great! It did not come as a surprise that the garage is organised AND tidy; otherwise you would have to find a different hobby! :o)
Hi John such a beautiful collection you got there, wish I had the skills to build like you do :)
Great planes and videos 😍
Absolutely fantastic John ! Very envious of your collection, your workshop/office setup and your dedication to the 'art'. Thank you for sharing.
Bird of Time. My all time favorite.
That's quite the selection . thanks for sharing . looks awesome. 👍
Ohhh! 😍 i just ended up in heaven🥰
Absolute STUNNING models! Man , i loved this video at 2.30am
Terrific video, thanks John. It turned into an aeronautical version of Harry’s Garage, you share the same watchable and easy sounding style with Harry. Both highly recommended. Stay safe .
John, I'm a Hang Glider pilot and a bunch of us fly RC Gliders for giggles around the LZ or on other days when flying our big wings doesn't work out. I caught on to your videos some time ago because of what seems to be a style of RC Glider that made distinctly your own, traditional balsa frames with transparent skins to show off those wonderful airframes. Now I'm not really dialed in to the RC world so maybe there is a bunch more hobbyists besides yourself who use this style, but you seem pretty keen on it and have quite the knack for making them quite stunning. I'd venture to say that a majority of your viewers here notice that as well and thats why we keep coming back. Adding to that, your modifications to many free flight gliders into RC is quite the skill that I and many others lack. It'd be quite the treat to see your process in building these balsa beauties, your tips for covering, and especially the right way to add control surfaces. Thanks for all you do and please, come out and try Hang Gliding!
Thank you for watching! I’ve always just made flying videos and I wasn’t sure how this latest talking video would go down. People seem to really like it so I’m definitely going to make some more.
I did try paragliding many years ago. It was great fun but at the time I didn’t really have the money to keep learning.
Wonderful video! Thanks for showing us your collection and how you store them. I have 10 gliders and I’m struggling to fit them in my room haha
Hi John,
Thanks for showing us your fleet. I'm amazed they all fit into your garage. The two I admire the most are the BoT and the Gentile Lady. Had the Gentile Lady about 40 years ago.
I love the Gentle Lady
Enjoy your work, dedication and gentle piloting skills on the slopes. Thank you from the west coast of the USA..
Thank you from Cornwall U.K.
A beautiful collection, thanks for sharing. I'm building a West Wings Amethyst (after seeing your video of it) seemed like a good idea to pass the time in lockdown, love it and already have the next kit enroute!
Fantastic, nether build. It does fly really well.
I don't remember if I told you John. This is a great video. I love seeing your collection. Many of which are unusall and very amazing. Thanks John!
Thank you!!
An amazing collection! Thanks for sharing your glider collection with us through creating and uploading this video.
Thanks for sharing your hangar!!! Quite a collection!!! Just wonderful
Amazing John. I have been flying mouldies for competitions, but they are just tools. These gliders show pure love. 😃 Would love to see how you design and build your own planes.
I love your sailplanes and videos John. Keep up the AWESOME work!
Love it thanks for sharing John.
The flying video is great but I wanted to see your workshop
Thank you for introducing the hangar.
from Japan
That is a very impressive collection; a veritable forest of balsa! You really are a master builder. I'm almost more impressed that they all manage to fit in your garage! I've been following you for some time now, but I've never commented before. I felt that it's time to let you know how much your content means to me. With everything that's going on right now, with all the uncertainty and worry, few things are as relaxing as watching a beautiful glider fly against a beautiful landscape. I'm sure you get comments like this all the time, but you have really have helped more than I can really put into words. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m glad you like the videos and thank you for watching.
I’ve wanted to see this for a while, WOW!
WOW! Awesome work John indeed!
