can we just all agree that the criticisms about the rigga morus should be directed at the shows producers and not the individual queens themselves cuz its not their faults for why production is like this :(
@@papu9331 right only robbed queen is manila and shangela period not bimini nor gigi (but she should have won but i love jaida) AAND ITS NOT THE QUEENS FAULT THAN THEY WON
my theory is that the producers were trying to give rosé the villain edit with her two rivalries at the beginning of the season, but she never gave them the drama, and was instead always realllly supportive of her castmates. maybe rosé caught on and said, no, you're not going to paint me this way
Lmao I'm pretty sure considering they pushed Tina into a group called the mean girls that lasted a day, Rosé was the person we were supposed to root for in that rivalry. They also pushed a romantic storyline, which fans tend to love (and they did)
And the only episode they could have justified putting her in the bottom was the makeover challenge, but Tina clearly would have gone home, so she never gave them a real chance to take her out.
"imagine a season where Denali, Rosé, Tamisha, and Utica claw their way to the end, taking out all the winners" I would like to imagine that very much thank you
Personally I think they really wanted Utica to be the next Crystal Methyd or Yvie, but her strengths was more in her looks then any of the acting challenges and it feels like that just punishing Utica for not fitting into the mould
no hun, they had already a lot of quirky likeable queens. they wanted to make utica the girl that seems to be nice but undercover is a bitch. they wanted to make the Thorgy/crystal/yvie character but a villian. and they tried?? but utica was so sweet. she wasn't mean on purpose. she just isn't that good at interacting with the rest of the cast.
Utica was never gonna fit into a mold, that’s the point of quirky queens lol. Utica just doesn’t have the fully fleshed personality that her outfits do
You are right and given how many acting challenges there were this season, it didn’t do Utica any favors. They wanted a kooky queen until the realized that Utica was a threat to Gottmik’s top 4 title of “unique young and talented fashion queen”. Notice how shocked michelle was in the bag ball when Utica blew everyone away in the main challenge. She literally said “I thought you were just going to be a kooky queen and do kooky things” aka you are not playing your assigned role. And ever since then they use the same kooky excuse time and time again on Utica and then when Utica does what they want the Beast Couture challenge, they now say that her outfit is “pretty but I’ve seen it before” while lightheartedly laughing at Kandy Muse’s hideous outfit. No coincidence that she’s been just below Gottmik 4 times....almost as if she’s a shield for saving Gottmik from bottom 2 (another shield was Tamisha and Tina).
It's funny when the show and the judges say be you, but when Utica does it they thing she's just too wired and needs to stop. Like the only episode she won was her acting like Symone and not herself.
Also remember how in the ball episode they didn’t give her the win SHE FULLY DESERVED just because she was acting too weird (and also because Mik is ‘the fashion queen’ and thus HAD to win the ball episode)? Now remember last season when Nicky Doll modelled the clothes literally just fine and they critiqued her for not being weird?
the bag ball just doesn’t sit right with me the whole point of the ball is the garment the queens make themselves and whilst i do agree that mik’s first two looks were stronger her last look was not at all on the same level as utica’s so the fact that they gave mik the win based on outfits that they had made by celebrity costume designers for thousands of dollars over utica who made everything from scratch just feels so wrong
I KNOW RIGHT, I wholeheartedly agree!! I watched Bussy Queen's video on how much the queens have spent preparing for drag race, and Gottmik's estimate was around 68k (of course we don't really know but still), knowing that Mik has a lot of money bc of their work as a celebrity mua, is in touch with famous designers and has rich supportive friends.... idk it changed my mind about them winning that challenge over more "humble" and talented ppl like Utica. Like yeah, Mik SERVED every single runway, but how much of that was them being a truly fashionable queen and not just relying on renowned designers' work...
@@fátimanroses she just made a video with Trixie Mattel saying that that video was way off, and that people think she's insanely rich when she's not. She did spend a lot of money though, but it wasn't 68k
The only proof of rigga morris that anyone needs is during the finale interviews. Rose got treated like it was a job interview, while Ru was tripping all over herself to laugh at every single thing that Kandy said
I was SO annoyed with the way they portrayed Rosé. They gave her the too perfect edit to a stupid extent and there was no way anyone could ever relate to her. When Ru & Michelle did the interviews, they're so friendly and laughing, crying, and with Rosé they're just "you're SO professional, thank you for being here," and it's almost rude. And even in the finale it's very much making her personality revolve around her being Scottish and literally not much else. They didn't want her to win but there was no way they could have justified kicking her out at any point so...they just did nothing with her at all. I mean, at one point Ross compared her to Bianca and they just left it at that? I'd never seen anyone else say that Elliott had given up during that snatch game episode, it truly felt like it. Her lipsync against Lala was SO good, and the one against Utica in the confessional she's like "I can't dance in that outfit but oh well," and she's expressionless the whole time, you can tell she's gone. I mostly cried rigged when Denali was eliminated (and was heartbroken for the same reasons as you, and it felt like she wasn't given a fair chance to lipsync in that gown that wasn't even hers) but after watching the finale I can see why they didn't let her get top 4, in a lipsync for the crown situation how would have they justified her not winning.
Just fyi Denali confirmed in a tweet that the dress that Oliva Lux gave her reveals to a leotard, but Denali chose to not take the dress off for the lipsync
As someone who has perfectionistic personality tendencies, I really related to Rose. It can be stressful and so you just keep smiling and focusing on what is ahead of you, keeping things professional throughout. It's something most employers would love, but apparently Ru doesn't.
They could’ve done so much more with the losers and winners circle storyline and made it really interesting and actually made it meaningful but they just left it
For real. That's why it felt so useless and dragging along the season because nothing comes out of it and the story lines actually go against it in the end
I personally think the top 4 were decided pretty early on (if not pre picked) and the main purpose of winners/losers was to give Rosé a really strong ignored underdog edit. As far as ik, they really pushed both her rivalry with Tina and well as Rosenali, all of which makes it feel like she could win the competition for the porkchop group/robbed queens. Maybe it's coincidence, but too many storylines fit perfectly, but feel a bit forced
I will never understand them cutting Tamisha's storyline off like that. You know she would've kept making drama, and there's no way they didn't know she would be a fan favorite. Also, letting Denali lipsync in those skates was so incredibly dangerous. I can't believe they let that happen.
I think they thought the fans wouldn't like her. Drag race loves to work on stereotypes and compare queens to other queens. They cast an older sassy black pageant queen. They probably thought 'Oh it's another Kennedy Davenport'
Yeah I was wondering if Denali's cartwheel was kinda reckless, but I did some digging and I think she had guards on or the skates weren't that sharp. Stage would have been cut up otherwise too. Can't confirm for certain though.
@@roadjcat I also think that Denali, being a professional figure skater, would NEVER go out on a stage that isn't covered in ice on proper sharp blades. Those skates were unsharpened 100%
With Robbie Turner's lipsync in her season they asked her if she'd rather lipsync in roller skates or in heels so I think it's weird that they didn't give Denali that option.
Honestly it was nice but I was expecting something more crazy unique from Utica, considering she was the ‘weird’ queen and everything, I thought the beast challenge would be great for her! It was very pretty though, definitely better than Kandys😭
I was SO SHOCKED! I SCREAMED no so long and so loud my neighbors came running to see if I was ok lmao! I had to explain ‘you ever watch a competition rooting for someone and they get UNFAIRLY eliminated? Yes! We have! Well, that’s what happened to me!’ Sorry to scare you, thank you for caring -what we’re you watching? DRAG RACE! One of em screams ‘they eliminated DENALI?!?!?!’ Lol, I had no idea he was gay lol oh you should see him-OMG! Beyond buff and handsome! So we kinda cried together. I almost literally stopped watching for good! She BETTER be on Allstars, but dayum, they’re all steppin up their game! Money seems to be flowing generously now. Look at the quality being upped now. Anyway. Love your take on her too! 🙏🏻❤️
The makeover challenge was 1000% rigged bc production chose the pairs. Whoever was with Mik was bound to be in the top so they put her w Kandy who was giving questionable runways throughout the season making it easy to save her. They put the two newest queens together, which is not always a disadvantage, but the reasoning of “queen you will learn most from” is lost on me here bc they would both learn more from someone with more experience. Production can decide when to judge in pairs and when not to, there are many times when teams or pairs are judged individually and this would have been a perfect time to do so...or save the double shantay for this episode since it would be unfair for someone to go home for another contestants mistakes
YES! i also think that Tina and Olivia should have lip synced bc they were the ones that did the worst makeovers, it was not Denalis fault that Olivia did bad.. either that or double shantay
I honestly think they should have just cut the makeover challenge altogether. the queens had to pull looks that they never meant for runways (according to Denali) and not getting to present yourself in your drag for an episode really sucks. Denali did the best that she could but I think it was a poor choice to keep the makeover challenge when they could have easily scrapped it for another design challenge.
I dont hate kandy, I just honestly don't see what everyone seems to see with her. Her looks were primarily meh, and she was just loud instead of actually being funny
Thank you, im the same i dont hage her, i just dont find her funny just obnoxious and some of her looks were questionable. Its not that i don't love banjee either as Vanjee is one of my favs.
“what everyone seems to see in her” girl? everyone in the fandom hates her. the only people who like her are the judges. kandy may have come off in a bad light in the season, but she’s a great queen, and she doesn’t deserve any of the hate she gets.
Right she just trying to impersonate the stereotyped loud and mean girl, no one is living their daily life like that pls... also the judges calling this behavior "being real" and "sticking to you" is just idk weird
why do ppl think she's loud lmfao. she just got mad in that one argument with tamisha. you LOOVE comparing big brown girls like her and silky. no, Kandy isn't loud just bc she got upset in that argument. Also Kandy is really funny. the ppl that Stan her do it bc of her humour. she is so gen Z, fake it til you make it kinda thing. even more than mik.
Judges: We love each and every one of you just the way you are. Don't you dare change your personality for someone else. Love yourself Utica: Hey Judges: Not you tho
Rupaul basically told Rosé "I know I can count on you to deliver whenever I call you." in the little table talk with Michelle. Rosé is too good to have on only one season. Also after hearing how the shows contracts work I think they're going to Jujubee the crap out of her.
I also thought it was interesting that, in my eyes, they sent a queen home twice for literally doing what the challenge asked of them? First of all, Tina got sent home on the branding challenge for...being too on brand? Like her main critique was that she always plays the same kind of character, that it's predictable but like...isn't an ad/branding challenge exactly where you need to do that? And to a certain extent I would honestly say the same thing for Denali. Did Denali do an incredible job on Olivia in the makeover? No. But compared to every single queen on that stage, I would have recognized at first sight that Olivia was supposed to be Denali. And wasn't that the point of the challenge, making your partner look like you? I think that maybe apart from Gottmik with Kandy - which, hey, not that difficult when you have such a strong signature makeup - Denali did the best job at actually making her partner look like her.
I'm sorry but Olivia looked so crunchy. I was like Denali wtf is up with that wig line, you can see the glue popping out. And the makeup was so unblended. It was very on brand in terms of the outfit tho.
No one is gonna talk about how Kandy Muse literally acted like herself in Snatch game. Like fr, she should’ve been in bottom for that, at least Utica and Eliott tried to act like they’re celebrity.
Kandy always acted like herself. A loud, annoying, vapid character. That’s all Kandy is. And I would excuse that if she had looks, but no, that wasn’t there. I don’t know how she and Tina Burner made it on the show. Black mail?
The snatch game was the icing on the cake for me I was floored she didn't go home. She didn't do the assignment at all, looking like your character doesn't save a lame performance
@@stijn4687 Right ? I literally googled TS maddison to find out if that is how she really is.... and...to my non-suprise....TS Madison is nothing like how silk portrayed her to be on snatch game.
The weird thing is that the producers inadvertently(?) gave Rosé the classical Hero's Journey narrative. She comes in as an expected contender, but is immediately knocked off her pedestal. She battles her demons for a few episodes, fights her way back to the top, and then wins the challenge that dispatches the girl who beat her in episode one. It's Gladiator, but in heels.
We're just gonna ignore The Beast Couture challenge? We're just gonna ignore that of all the queens Utica was the only one who actually gave BEAST COUTURE while everyone else gave beast COSTUME. And Kandy... well... Kandy gave green alien unfantastic plastic Weekend At Bernie's with fig leaf furry unrealness. >_< We're really going to ignore that? Oh... okay. :/

The real one who made Adore Delano CRY for bringing an off the rack little number to All-Stars! THAT ONE! Where was she? Where was home-girl? Because there's no way in hell that she would have let that go by without rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiping Kandy to shreds. All we get is... "It's interesting... but where's the beast? I love it." (Her exact words.) She didn't love that shit. She knows full well that she didn't love that shit. No one loved that shit. @@robynsegg Coming to this late but YES!! I said this half a dozen times this season about judging Kandy, especially on runway! It was shocking, actually. I get that what is “funny” is more subjective than runway, but Ru seemed like the only judge to genuinely think Kandy was funny when she wasn’t, though I would argue Ru was forcing the laughs because of the inexplicable agenda of pushing her along. I’ll never forget Ross and Carson both remarking on how *funny* they found Kandy and how insincere they sounded. IMO, the riggory was most obvious there, at least as far as pushing Kandy along thru mediocre comedy (hellacious and unremarked-on Snatch Game, the boring effort to be shocking and hilarious by constantly calling people (like Ru and Ross) “bitch” no matter the character, that incredibly UN-funny, easy choice, hyper-child clown that they praised to the skies, etc.) and often completely unacceptable “fashion.”
I honestly agree! Personally would had liked Miz Cracker to win AS5 but ngl even though rosé did really good this season, her lsftc was honestly a little underwhelming? She revealed into a worse dress and the dance moves were a little awkward but yeah I get your point
@@crimeyfruit5676 she did have a sprained ankle. But in my opinion, Symone was the best lipsyncer out of the top 7 queens, so I knew she was gonna win. And to be honest, I didn't think any of the finale lipsyncs were even on the same level as S9 or S11.
@@musicalme789 The finale lip syncs weren’t even close to the s9 and s11 lip syncs. Guess my expectations were too high. The finale runways overshadowed the lip syncs, so anticlimactic and underwhelming. The s11 Work Bitch lip sync with Mercedes and Kahanna was so much better.
@@noahreisner5199 well sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Imo it didnt strike a chord with me during her first lipsync with kandy, her lipsync with utica, and her first lipsync with tamisha. But it did wor the other times. So it's definitely a hit or miss. One thing's for sure: she's not versatile. If there were an all winners season, she could lose first
I just wish the makeover had originally been planned as the double shantay, regardless of who was placed in the bottom. It’s super sad to see anyone leave with a look that doesn’t represent them.
i think they just didnt want to drag out the season as they already had did. they need to stop with these double premieres and never do this porkchop queens stunt ever again.
Rose is one of the most talented queens to ever be on this show. Her talent alone garnered so many fans. Not only was she good at basically everything, but she was also so mature and professional. Obviously storyline matters, but it would be nice to see someone who is just amazing at what they do be rewarded for it.
only the sleeping bag one, the other two were not great, Mik had tree consistent looks and more important Mik presented them flawlessly on stage, while Utica was being a clown
@@stijn4687 Utica's looks were also great too, as well as Gottmik. The challenge was mainly revolved around sewing. Which indicated that the last look [the show stopper] was the overall critiqued. Both queens had phenomenal oufits but Utica's was better and the whole bs about Utica being too 'quirky' or 'clownish' is hypocritical as Nicky Doll was always read for just being a Fashion Queen with no personality.
Honestly thought that altough utica's last look was more technically impressive, it wasn't as unclockable that it was made out of bags like gottmik's, which is probably why she won the challenge (other than the fact that they may have wanted to apologize to her for the cleaners accidentally throwing the look into the trash 😂
Rose is a well adjusted intelligent professional performer and people like that dont make "good TV". People call her boring because she doesnt get into drama.
The main problem I have was the Kandy save. She hadn't been necessarily riding high prior to it (like Dela was in her season), she was weak in the challenge and lost her lip sync. Not only was it unfair as a competion, saving Kandy just brought her unnecessary hatred.
Yes, just like Silky in S11, she was kept around for too long because she was always creating drama. But since everyone knows they didn't deserve to go as far as they did, the fans have a negative reaction towards them. They tried to construct Kandy having a 'comeback' with the roast challenge but if it was judged fairly, Rose or Gottmik would have won over her. Kandy quite literally just retold a Lady Bunny joke but still won because they needed it for her storyline. S13 was not as big of a mess as S11 because of the riggory but production really needs to stop with BS and make this a real competition without obvious favoritism.
@@felixoesinghaus I personally disagree. Kandy did not lose that lipsync during the Rusical and it was at least a tie between the two of them, if not Kandy winning. I personally like to think that they didn't want Symone to look weak at that moment despite being in the bottom, so they gave this narrative of her beating Kandy, AND THEN saving Kandy, instead of just doing the double shantay like they used to do it. I also think that the roast is debatable, but it is still a very deserved win. I clocked that Lady Bunny joke, but I personally thought she did it better, plus all of her other jokes landed so there's that. Just like in this video, I do think that Mik was favored more, and if it was judged "fairly", Kandy would still make it to the finale.
@@wreckss8223 kandy had p bad runways, and was saved more than twice. she was the worst in the first episode, she was double saved, she had that green alien-"beast" suit. i think her charisma wouldve brought her far, like 4th, but not finale imo
@@donamameng Saved more than TWICE? Let's see... (1) From critiques in ep. 3, she should've been in the bottom, but there were no bottom placements and only top 2 that week, which how these kinds of episodes work (like S12) so there was no saving whatsoever. (2) In the disco-mentary challenge, she was in the bottom 2, and it's funny because she could've been low instead and Mik should've been in the btm2 to replace either her or Tamisha. Utica could've landed there as well. She won the lipsync fairly, and if anything, it was slightly rigged against both Tamisha and her to favor Gottmik. (3) The Rusical: the only episode where you can say she was "saved" and arguable too, because a lot of people, dare I say the majority, think that she won that lipsync and Symone was saved for her track record. (4) Branding Challenge: Yes, her alien look was atrocious, but would you seriously put her in the bottom when she had the third best commercial? No. It was a well-deserved high placement based on the main challenge. (5) The Roast: She won this episode. Periodt. (6) Top 5: She was in the bottom because of her pockets look and no one other than Olivia really messed up. Fairly won the lipsync, moved on to top 4. Next. (7) Lucky: No one was supposed to go home this episode, and it wasn't necessarily adjusted just to save her lmao (8) Finale, vs. Rose: If you said she didn't win that, you'd be lying (9) Top 2, vs. Symone: Symone truly won the season, but I've seen others say that Kandy won that lipsync. Nevertheless, it was a good and pretty fair run. So where was those 3 times and above exactly?

@@amiraking6688 you’re right. Rosé never showed versatility in her character development and only gave us the same thing over and over again, unlike Olivia. Oh wait 🤔🤷🏻🤷🏻
In the interview with Ru, you would see Ru laughing at everything Symone, Kandy, and Gottmik said! But Ru barely chuckled when he did the interview with Rose. I felt so bad for Rose
It was definitely weird how in episode one Tina was shaken by the fact that Rosé was there (her reaction was priceless) and Rosé was like “yeah I don’t think Tina likes me very much lol” and then they completely dropped that storyline. Rosé is gonna come back into AS with her second vengeance quest (she was definitely pissed off after Denali left and came back swinging in the next three episodes).
"imagine a season where Denali, Rosé, Tamisha, and Utica claw their way to the end, taking out all the winners" this makes complete sense with my fantasy
What they did to Elliot was just straight up evil in my opinion. It was probably so heartbreaking to have everyone vote you out and single you out and think you’re leaving just to come back. I guess it would’ve been better if they’d used that story another time but they didn’t mention it again. I feel it was mean spirited and unnecessary
I think the problem with the way the show treated Rosé was that they could’ve given her a storyline with Denali. In a lot of scenarios the two ended up working together, and in the RuPaul Mark Channel untucked Rosé was the one who told Denali to slay since she needed her to stay in the competition, so they should’ve shown more of those two as friends and then have the two lip sync with either one going home or one being the double save over Symone and Kandy. The simple fact of the matter is that Rosé had the cleanest track record, was polished in pretty much every look (except as Tina), and killed every challenge so acting like she wasn’t there was very upsetting. It’s Rosérasure as I called it. That being said, I’m not mad that Symone won.
Indeed~ totally get your perceptive on Rose. I do hope the Ru Paul show ventures for future seasons where: It's not producers/judges but "The Audience Voting In" on who stays or goes. To me that's more compelling and creates more of a Community Collective Engagement.....just a thought :)
Everything that happened with Utica makes me so sad, and pointing out the only time she won was when she wasn't being herself makes it even sadder. To me she should have 100% won the bag ball, her look was so incredible with way more technicality into it that Gottmiks, and I personally love the way she presents herself on the runway, she's telling a story through movement and showing you don't have to be a pageant or runway queen to be fashion. Also the way Ru treated her whilst she was doing the roast was very unprofessional and childish to me, even if it wasn't funny and was mean at times it wasn't deserving of that response, I'm pretty sure they also said to Farrah Moan that her roast was mean but no one ever flipped her off during her act.
To me that was her storyline. Maybe we didn't get to know her as well but her story is basically the same as bimini in UkS2, starting with a fail but then riding high the rest of the season.
@@noahreisner5199 Not people, but the producers...? It was never referred to, it was never highlighted, except in very small, almost insignificant references. She was dimmed and her only storyline made insignificant by their choices.
Rose never had any story line because she’s white and privileged. I’m sorry but it’s true. Look at all the other girls, symone being black and gay in a racist town, gottmik being trans and Kandy literally FIGHTING to the top (although she was helped). The pork chop and the winner circle was never really a thing no one cared for it but fans were forcing it. Denali and rose, it was forced a bit but it didn’t last because rose clearly did not care for Denali lool. Y’all can call me delusional but one thing about rose I know for sure is SHEEE will fake it with anyone to get to where she needs to get. Noticed how they barely interact on social media now? But during the season they were going on live everyday. Rose didn’t have the best runway, she lost all her lip syncs. I mean y’all she just did “good” in the challenge. I mean symone, gottmik and Kandy have SOOOO many catchphrases but rose only has “that’s what you just did 🎶 “ so there’s that
What they did to Elliot was so mean but if they wanted to make it more of a gag they could’ve put the loser circle episode first and then the winners circle episode
For real though why is it the queens who were always talked about as big competition (or queens with a lot of experience) , eliminated so early like joe black in UK drag race

For snatch game I definitely think Symone gave a safe performance. Both her and Rose did modern version of historical figures, but I just felt Symone was just doing Symone rather than a unique character. Plus she totally missed Ru’s reference which is never good. She had an amazing runway but just a safe performance
I thought her Harriet was funny, but tbh it was safe. But that runway... ICONIC! That runway won the episode for me. It’s such an important message and I thought it should’ve put her in the top. Not the win, but top for sure.
I liked her performance but yeah, that Jennifer Lewis moment could've been easily turned into a Katy Perry "have you ever kissed a girl?" or a Marylin Monroe's "you're into politics, right?" moment. It was funny but they edited it to be funny.
I personally didn't even watch all of the episodes. there was a point in time where I just watched sibling watchery and the pit stop and that was enough for me. during previous seasons I would never watch any type of recap before watching the actual episode but I just didn't care for this season.
I feel like I've had such a love hate relationship with season 13 just because of it's length. The queens are phenomenal, the challenges were mostly good and I liked knowing there was always going to be something for me to watch but God do I feel like it's been going on for years. A few episodes being cut, less twists about queens coming back and it would've been better in my opinion

I Don't Love Her But I Like Tina. I Could Definently Relate To Her Being From A Small New York Town (Although It Never Was Brought Up On The Show) And Tina Seems Like The Type Of Person Who's Chill And That One Older Person Who Trys To Be Hip But It Works
I agree, and for most cases that’s okay- however like art school, drag race is a place where you must be versatile and meet the expectations and requirements of the judges so as to graduate/ win dr
@@neeliknowsnothing right and when loni snapped back with the read (no hate), even if how poorly the queen did, you shouldnt interfere with the roast and embarrass them
I'm gonna say something controversial : I don't think Elliott did all that bad in the Bossy Rossy challenge. Sure, she started out quiet and didn't quite meet Tina's energy, but it was clearly intentional and their tits/ass fight and makeout made up for it in my mind. It was a MUCH better payoff than Kandy/Symone's scene that didn't really go anywhere, energy-wise
I'm sorry, but I had trouble taking you seriously when you agreed Gottmik won the ball. Utica made the single best outfit in the history of drag race out of a material that is hard to work with in the same time that Lalari made that epically horrendous bag outfit and she helped out every queen with their outfit. Utica 100% deserved to win the ball Also, I agree Tina did not deserve to be in the bottom 2 when she went home, but she lost that lipsync. Utica brought an entirely unique energy while Tina gave what every single drag queen and their grandma would do. She also lost steam near the end while Utica kept building. And according to Bob and Monet, Tina sucks at roasting so it really is not a given that she would've done well in the next challenges
I still think Utica won the lip sync against Tina, i mean, her performance made me literally gag, she was just iconic in that lip sync. The embodiment of a cartoon villain was perfect.
I fully agree with this, I feel like Tina was just pulling out her typical go to moves, which whilst they were sickening, just didn't fit the vibe of the song, whilst not only did Utica give something unique she also twisted it to make sense with her outfit creating a full character, she definitely deserved that win hands down
YES! I had to run back the video to see if TDD actually said Tina won the lip sync lol, like, what?? She did well enough, but Utica's performance was dark and sexy and funny and campy and hypnotic, just everything!
I thought the go to moves were better suited for the song 'my humps', it's not really a villain type of song, it's a fun upbeat song. Just my opinion though!
@@hannahmacdonald9040 I see that, but here’s my thoughts on the matter. Tina was giving the energy of the female vocals in the chorus. That upbeat “my humps, my humps, my humps, my humps they got you”. Utica gave the male vocals of the chorus. That more melodic, crooning “she’s got me spending”. (Ofc throughout the song both the male and female vocals have lines where they’re upbeat and more melodic, but I’m just picking out their roles in the chorus for simplicity’s sake so I can clearly identify the two different tones of the song.) The song has upbeat and energetic vocals to dance to about having a nice body, and a more dark enchantress energy of seducing men and getting men to spend money on you. Both Tina and Utica tapped into a different quality of the song that matched with their outfits. Utica would’ve looked odd bopping and dancing to the song, while Tina would’ve looked odd channeling dark feminine energy. At the end of the day they were performing different aspects of the song, so it’s hard to say who was doing ‘better’ or who was more accurately channeling the energy of the song.
I think what also plays into Rosé's lack of storyline is that all season she gives hints here and there that she doesn't play up things in front of the camera and isn't feeding into what the producers are trying to do. When watching untucked I saw so much of her actual personality being a very motherly, supportive and level-headed queen but also having a quirky side to her, but if you compare it to the narration she is given in the actual episodes you don't see anything of that. I think that I also wouldn't have warmed up to her if I didn't see Untucked. And let's be honest, Untucked is watched by real drag race fans and not by most of the drag race viewers. I also think that maybe her professionalism and level-headedness is not liked by the producers because; it is not fun TV. In untucked she called out/critiqued Kandy, Tina, Olivia and Utica, but also praising them and actually giving constructive criticism for them to work with. And that is... boring TV. Rosé wasn't playing the game of an overly dramatic edit because she wasn't feeding them content, and I think that is what annoyed the producers. Secondly, if someone doesn't make good reality TV because of the reason above, the second thing producers can look is a sad background story. In Rosé we don't know if her storyline is just not projected at all, but from what we know she's had a supportive family and friends and has a good reputation in New York so she didn't have much hardships they could focus on instead. This again makes the producers left with nothing. But this still isn't fair, because they could have easily given us just the sentimental happy story too of "I have had a supportive family (...) it is so nice to see the world more acceptable (...)" ect. but they didn't even try that. Now these two things considered, it was fairly obvious they could've never crowned Rosé, because drag race is reality TV first and maybe in older seasons this would have worked, but the fans response is so highly influenced by the narrative of the show that it was obvious they wouldn't crown her in any way. I think they were just at a loss that Rosé is so well-rounded that there was no room in any challenge to put her, believably, in the bottom and eliminate her, and that's why they kept her.
@@canarylol2987 someone who was clear top 4 for the beginning, a emotional bad story, moments of weakness like with being in the bottom and some of the best looks this season, comedy moments
@@coconutgelato7459 For real they could have milked the shit out of her and Denali's storyline because we know the straight girls love to eat that up, but they didn't even try that. Missed opportunity to cash in on that tbh, because even without much focus the straight girlies still ate that up. If I was a producer I'd do differently hahaha. I think with pairing up w/ Tina I think they thought Tina and Rosé would have tension but again Rosé doesn't do petty drama so instead it actually ended on a good note with them. She had no time for what the producers were doing it was clear.
@@canarylol2987 I think "good TV" isn't only about making drama in drag race, it is also just the showcase of someone's backstory and inner saboteur. If you see people grow through the competition (Gottmik) or later stuggle (Symone) this helps establish a certain emotional connection between the viewer and the queens. Symone had a well established story-arc which is why people liked her even though she also wasn't much confrontational and controversial (like Rosé). She just had a storyline through the competition and therefore she made "good TV" in her own way. It is picking and chosing from the producers who they want to stand out and not, that is overproduced reality TV in a nutshell.
whenever you talked about the loser's circle and who made it far into the season you keep referring to only denali and rosé, but utica made it further than denali
I think the reason why Rosé resonated with a lot of people (myself included) was the fact that she was the true underdog of the season, much like Jinkx Monsoon. She had to claw her way up to the top with nothing to rely on but herself. She was consistently good, she’s a performer who owns the stage and she basically did nothing wrong throughout the competition. Yet other girls got so much more attention because they are better reality show material.
I actually do think the makeover episode could be rigged. I think at that point, production had a very good idea of who they wanted to make it further, and who they didn’t want anymore, and they clearly didn’t want Denali in the top 4, so as soon as they saw a challenge where she stumbled, production jumped at the opportunity to send her home, because they knew she would be a serious threat later on if she stayed. When they saw Olivia flop horribly, it would have been easy for production to change the format of the episode, so Denali would lip-sync by default and then go home, instead of Tina lip-syncing and probably going home as well, but production knew the commercial challenge would trip Tina up (even though it really didn’t) so she could go then, but Denali was a much stronger contender, so getting rid of her now was a safeguard so they didn’t have to send Kandy, Symone or Mik home later on. Even if the placement wasn’t rigged, this still should have been the double save, but of course they wasted it on Kandy, just like in UK2 when A’Whora had the best lip sync but the double save was spent on Ellie Diamond to keep her for a little longer.
They knew Denali was a strong lipsyncer and took the best chance they had to eliminate her. Especially as she had put her all into improving at acting after her first B2.
i agree with the denali sentiment. i think this was realistically the only clear cut challenge they had to eliminate her, because you couldn't guarantee her doing bad at any other point. i think they also did the same to scarlet on season 11. where if they didn't eliminate them when they did they probably would have made top 4.
honestly, the makeover is always the iffy challenge. on s10 Kameron was in the bottom is ready of aquaria so she could send home Monet. in s11 we got Nina vs Silky, in s12 we got the double shantay. and now we also get the makeover mid-season
If the only thing keeping Utica from winning is her kookiness, you know she was robbed. Main challenge matters the most and they didn’t want to recognize that Utica was the fashion queen of the season.
Honestly, I think she should've won the Bag Ball, but then sent home at the first opportunity (ie. Bossy Rossy). Having her stay so long was painful as she began to rub everyone the wrong way, culminating in her infamous roast
@@larey9484 personally I didn't get annoyed by her and... honestly? I think her being in the roast was the best thing. Like.... cmon. The sheer amount of iconic moments packed into that episode all stem from her. Plus, her and symone were great in the makeover, her vs tina was THE bomb, and I think it was worth it just to see her looks on the main stage every week. I really appreciated her being there, and honestly she felt like one of the only things keeping this season from stagnation.
@@fittinginisforjigsawpieces3141 I guess I didn't like that she was almost trying too hard to be the "weird queen" when she didn't need to be. She's obviously very talented already and it felt disingenuous to see her be weird just for the sake of being weird
@@larey9484 honestly, to me that seems like her actual persona. Like if you see her out of the show, she acts the same. I defo see how she could get tiring, but like kandy, this isn't an act. It's just her.
The treatment of Utica in the season is one of the main things that made me not enjoy this season as much... and probably never want to rewatched again
If we wanna talk about Robbery Tina is right there. Multiple placements bumped down which is bs yet no one ever talks about it cause she wasn't the fan favourite
I would rank Tina in the “meh” column. Overall she did .. ok? A comedy queen who didn’t seem funny, with some pretty bad looks and not very likeable. If anything the producers should’ve kicked her out long before.
what? she had horrible runways, really bad taste and ugly, she had to be eliminated sooner, the gag is that she stayed too long......... Also her make up on Rose???? terrible, she should be in the bottom that episode........like ,her and Olivia the right bottom 2
That’s true mik should be there and Tina in the last episode ,it’s like they tried to safe Tina in the makeover but then they want to get her out of the competition,it would better and more logical have a lipsync between rose and her based of their past behavior with each other
the utica tina lipsync really could have gone either way for me, both performances were SO different that comparing them felt impossible. i loved how utica made my humps into this spooky intense evil queen character performance that completely transformed the song, so she was my personal choice to win, but i also think it deserved a double save way more than kandy and symone. however imo neither should have even been in the bottom (utica’s commercial was the only one that made me actually laugh, sue me). also i can’t help but wish they’d kept tina for the roast instead of utica.
Honestly it should have been gottmik and kandy, sorry but that fuckin alien sucked, or possibly have her as low and put liv in the bottom, at least then we wouldn't have production pulling a second double save to protect kandy and gottmik.
Season 13 seemed so weird when you compare it to S12 before it, and UK2 alongside it. In UK2 and S12 I really thought those entire casts had potential to win the whole thing. I thought Joe Black, Cherry Valentine and Awhora would be the tops on UK and it's so exciting to see your favs go home first and be surprised. Whereas this season in the first week you can tell Joey Jay, Kahmora, Utica, Tamisha and basically every loading doc girl except Rose was going home early and Kandy and Symone were gonna go far (Kandy didn't do well in most of the competition and you can still tell she will make it to the finale, but someone like Awhora who had the most storyline and was doing well got sent home when she wasn't even the worst) . Other than Denali doing as well as she did S13 did not surprise me or excite me at all. I know we aren't meant to compare the seasons but when you air two seasons together at the same time its inevitable
I think S12 was good in part because they had to re-edit it to remove the predator and the storylines involving them. Imagine if they'd had to edit out one of the top four this season (maybe not Rose, given the lack of character arcs), and had to fill the space with things that had happened more organically on camera.
No way Tina won that Lipsync against Utica Utica effortlessly slayed those lyrics and facial expressions Tina just looked desperate, it was uncomfortable to watch
They really dropped the ball with Rose, she could've had the storyline of an underdog (because she was in the porkchop group) who would later go on to win the season
ESPECIALLY after Jinx’s win being so appreciated by fans like tf. Plus, Rosé was the clear fan favourite to win just over Symone. (Thats not me discrediting Symone’s win, she was my No.1 choice from day 1
@@yoshitrainerdc9978 seemed like to me that the fans were evenly split between Gottmik and Symone, and then Rosè was a clear third place... but go off ig
THIS! we need to go back to design challenges early. how many drag queens are in the world acting? why are there so many comedy challenges and no more design challenges? like its been harped you dont need much to do drag but then they dont do that at all anymore
Thank you, I honestly think Symone gets waaaaay too much credit as a lipsyncer, she literally does the same “wander around the stage and do a head bobble” schtick every single time
I believe that a massive amount of Rosé's storyline was altered this season as she looks different in half of her confessionals and it seems like they strung together a sort of cocky and confident edit that might not have been there at the time and they might have scrapped some rosé tina drama to make give kandy more air time
@@comsicartisan7700 It wasn't a double shantey, RuPaul decided to keep Kandy because she wanted to see more of her. And the double win is questionable to YOU, not for the judges. I honestly think Symone should have won solo, but am I going around and saying that Rosè was favored? No.
Why are we pretending Denali didn’t do the second worst makeup on the makeover challenge. She made Olivia look horrible, I blended and crusty. Obviously Tina make rose look awful but olivias makeup on Denali was great. Some got confused by Olivia choosing to give her a pageantry look but I’m fine with it because she had served looks like that in the show before like in the entrance and yellow runway. To me the only failure Olivia did was not forcing Denali to smile excessively and be happier on the runway. I think people got blinded by their love of Denali and what the show told them.
@@noahreisner5199 I agree I don’t think the makeup she gave mik was very kandy, but it looked amazing and the outfit was right so I think she was more successful than rosè but only by one or two placements.
Aldric Martinez-Olson tell that to all the hate and death threats she gets. I mean a villain is fun in a movie but it’s real life and it has significant effects on them

You know, you mentioned Elliott going home after that vote-off being a gag. I kinda would love to see someone do a video for What If Elliott HAD actually been eliminated, what the season would’ve looked like. Am I alone on that?
I think Utica commercial episode was not what Utica planned her video to be like, because I don’t think she’s that messy. she was clearly upset and I think the production wanted to play mind games with her to have a meme or viral moment like Jan the past season, but Utica kept calm and didn’t gave her them what they want they wanted to paint her as a villain but she had this cute little warm voice in her confessionals it didn’t work out
I wonder if durign the psych evaluation the producers discoverd Elliott’s depression and let her go thru that series of eliminations just to make her feel even more vulnerable and let her melt down in later episodes, you know, like exploting her mental healt for views and a sad story line
I’m sorry but in no way did Tina win that lip sync against Utica lol. We remember Utica’s performance way more than Tina’s. Tina also didn’t know the words at several points in the second half. Utica made Ru laugh a lot as well and that’s what Ru loves. Everything else is on point though. Can’t wait for “If Season 13 was judged fairly”
I just want to add to this video that the amount of anger people still have for Kandy for the "Kandy, wait!" moment just makes no sense at all! It was literally just another double save like we've seen before, just worded differently. They probably thought that would add something new to a double save, but fans are still taking it so, so seriously. And now on All Stars, fans are *again* dragging up this moment to hold it against her. Thanks for pointing out that the favoring was nowhere as much as these fans keep saying it was.
The favoritism was always there but I feel it's never been more apparent than on season 13. I expect Gottmik to get the Shea Couleé treatment on All Stars eventually. Also I didn't really like Tina but she definitely did NOT deserve to go home. They really just wanted to get rid of her before the roast, which she would have definitely won. And you're so right about the judges downplaying Rosé's track record, she did great the whole season but oh, she's "too much of a perfectionist", like what the fuck? She was hands down the most well-rounded queen of the season, but it still wasn't enough.
Utica definitely deserve to win the design challenge! Anyone can remake gotmiks looks with a glue gun, while Utica’s look definitely showed a true knowledge of construction of clothing. That Bull spit critique about Utica’s runway walk style was just some bull that the judges and producers came up with to not give Utica her 10’s.
This season was probably better with rigging as not many people liked Tina Burner so her going home nobody cared that much about, and Gottmik gave representation for trans queens so keeping her was a good choice. I personally would prefer to watch the seasons as competitions more then reality shows but it’s probably better this way, the only bad choices they made were getting rid of Tamisha and doing nothing with the winners circle and losers circle
No i highly disagree. Just because a queen has a message is no reason to force them into the finale or late into the competition, it puts them in a bad spotlight. And with Tina, they had episodes coming up that she could potentially win so she could have easily had a rudemption mid season so this makes literally 0 sense.

Wait, the psychic lady didn’t pick? 😆I like Olivia, but I think it’s bullshit Denali went home.
I agreeee
I honestly think they should have just cut the makeover challenge altogether. the queens had to pull looks that they never meant for runways (according to Denali) and not getting to present yourself in your drag for an episode really sucks. Denali did the best that she could but I think it was a poor choice to keep the makeover challenge when they could have easily scrapped it for another design challenge.
Yes! It was total BS that the psychic “picked” the pairs. Those pairs were definitely picked by production.
I dont hate kandy, I just honestly don't see what everyone seems to see with her. Her looks were primarily meh, and she was just loud instead of actually being funny

Right she just trying to impersonate the stereotyped loud and mean girl, no one is living their daily life like that pls... also the judges calling this behavior "being real" and "sticking to you" is just idk weird

I think that maybe apart from Gottmik with Kandy - which, hey, not that difficult when you have such a strong signature makeup - Denali did the best job at actually making her partner look like her.
this!
I'm sorry but Olivia looked so crunchy. I was like Denali wtf is up with that wig line, you can see the glue popping out. And the makeup was so unblended. It was very on brand in terms of the outfit tho.

I love me some Gotmikk but facts are facts.......Utica’s bag ball look was light years away. Truly epic
only the sleeping bag one, the other two were not great, Mik had tree consistent looks and more important Mik presented them flawlessly on stage, while Utica was being a clown
People call her boring because she doesnt get into drama.
to me she gave very Chad Michaels energy in the way the judges talked about her
The main problem I have was the Kandy save.

Next.
(7) Lucky: No one was supposed to go home this episode, and it wasn't necessarily adjusted just to save her lmao
(8) Finale, vs. Rose: If you said she didn't win that, you'd be lying
(9) Top 2, vs. Symone: Symone truly won the season, but I've seen others say that Kandy won that lipsync. Nevertheless, it was a good and pretty fair run.

It was definitely weird how in episode one Tina was shaken by the fact that Rosé was there (her reaction was priceless) and Rosé was like “yeah I don’t think Tina likes me very much lol” and then they completely dropped that storyline.

It’s funny that they didn’t try to give Rose a storyline, but she has my favorite, starting in the losers circle and clawing her way back to the top

Rose never had any story line because she’s white and privileged. I’m sorry but it’s true. Look at all the other girls, symone being black and gay in a racist town, gottmik being trans and Kandy literally FIGHTING to the top (although she was helped). It was a MUCH better payoff than Kandy/Symone's scene that didn't really go anywhere, energy-wise
I'm sorry, but I had trouble taking you seriously when you agreed Gottmik won the ball. Utica 100% deserved to win the ball
Also, I agree Tina did not deserve to be in the bottom 2 when she went home, but she lost that lipsync.

(Ofc throughout the song both the male and female vocals have lines where they’re upbeat and more melodic, but I’m just picking out their roles in the chorus for simplicity’s sake so I can clearly identify the two different tones of the song.)
The song has upbeat and energetic vocals to dance to about having a nice body, and a more dark enchantress energy of seducing men and getting men to spend money on you.
You forgot about Kahmora litteraly being season 12 winner's sister lmao
Factz
she's forgettable🤷♀️
@@hollypng7829 Like your mother.
I think they were just at a loss that Rosé is so well-rounded that there was no room in any challenge to put her, believably, in the bottom and eliminate her, and that's why they kept her.
its just crazy cuz what good reality TV did symone give?
Production could have given her (and us) the only storyline she was willing to play into by pairing her with Denali during the makeover but nope 🥲
Darling you have to watch the season again 'cause to say that Kandy was only 'pushed' in just one episode. Please.
Kandy was favored so much and totally did not deserve a top 4 placement
tina being in the top over lala for the discomentary gave me whiplash
Lala really slayed that fucking challenge and no one cares, she did just as good as Tina.
same! i thought lala deserved to win imo
why was tina in the top what 🤨
@@karenfromfinance2280 I mean Tina did do great, don’t know why Elliott was there tbh.
@@isaacmahoney5947 elliott has the best dance performance among all the queens in that disco challenge. Like to be fair, she got them moves
This
You don't understand how much I agree with this
They knew Denali was a strong lipsyncer and took the best chance they had to eliminate her.
100%. Utica was THE fashion queen, rather than the one wearing fashion.
Imo, Utica won that lip-sync against Tina, but Tina should NEVER have been in the Bottom
That’s true mik should be there and Tina in the last episode ,it’s like they tried to safe Tina in the makeover but then they want to get her out of the competition,it would better and more logical have a lipsync between rose and her based of their past behavior with each other
@@marinasjp7163 True !
the utica tina lipsync really could have gone either way for me, both performances were SO different that comparing them felt impossible. i loved how utica made my humps into this spooky intense evil queen character performance that completely transformed the song, so she was my personal choice to win, but i also think it deserved a double save way more than kandy and symone. however imo neither should have even been in the bottom (utica’s commercial was the only one that made me actually laugh, sue me). also i can’t help but wish they’d kept tina for the roast instead of utica.
Honestly it should have been gottmik and kandy, sorry but that fuckin alien sucked, or possibly have her as low and put liv in the bottom, at least then we wouldn't have production pulling a second double save to protect kandy and gottmik.
God same. I was laughing my head off at Utica's commercial..

Imagine if they'd had to edit out one of the top four this season (maybe not Rose, given the lack of character arcs), and had to fill the space with things that had happened more organically on camera.
denali doing well should not be a surprise 🙄

Utica effortlessly slayed those lyrics and facial expressions

Say all you want, but Utica's roast was best for me. Roasting Ru for wearing pajamas - Brilliant
Judges hating Utica for her 'cOokY' behaviour but always living for Symones head bobble. They should have loved them both or hated it both
Thank you, I honestly think Symone gets waaaaay too much credit as a lipsyncer, she literally does the same “wander around the stage and do a head bobble” schtick every single time
I believe that a massive amount of Rosé's storyline was altered this season as she looks different in half of her confessionals and it seems like they strung together a sort of cocky and confident edit that might not have been there at the time and they might have scrapped some rosé tina drama to make give kandy more air time
Not people saying "Symone's favoritism" when she wasn't favored even ONCE. Just because the judges love her doesn't mean they are favoring her.
Her favoritism was extremely minimal compared to queens like Mik and Kandy (love them both tho)
She legitimately earned every single one of her wins. It’s bizarre that people think she was favored.
The double shantay and the double win both are questionable
@@comsicartisan7700 It wasn't a double shantey, RuPaul decided to keep Kandy because she wanted to see more of her. And the double win is questionable to YOU, not for the judges. I honestly think Symone should have won solo, but am I going around and saying that Rosè was favored? No.
If anything, they put symone in the bottom for the smallest of things, when other contestants were getting a free pass lol
@Vince Guibert Rose had to work on a completely different body type and with that considered I honestly think she did fantastic.
