- All Stars 1 was such a failure, that WOW dropped the show for 4 whole years. When the announcement it was returning in 2016 for a second installment dropped, fans were not too excited. But what followed was one of the most shocking, entertaining, and somewhat frustrating seasons in Drag Race herstory. It was a new age for the series, and the show would never be the same again.
In a season where fans cry that the winner of the season was planned from the start, and many queens including Alyssa Edwards, Katya, and Tatianna were all "robbed," it looks like I have my work cut out for me here. We're going to look through episode by episode and point out the biggest examples of production riggory in each one, trying to stay as subjective as possible.
Remember, this is a reality show, and the producers are just trying to make the most interesting stories that they can. No hate to the queens, producers, or Ru.

Tatianna SHOULD NOT have been in the bottom for the commercial - its iconic, super on brand and was done amazingly.
On top of that, Tati’s commercial was the only one that turned into a legit show for a period of time. Yet, it was the one that ranked the lowest that episode? Please.

I find it interesting that you say that Rolaskatox is what made this season as good as it was when I personally found their clique to be the most frustrating/unwatchable aspect of AS2. There is no denying that AS2 is peak Drag Race and a total game-changer, and the end result of Rolaskatox competing together is iconic. (I mean, Read U Wrote U is *EVERYTHING* ) But watching queens who didn't deserve to go home get thrown under the bus (pun intended) week after week because of the trio of friends from S5 was painful.
I agree, I loved this season but it was so frustrating and I am reluctant to rewatch it.
Read U Wrote U would've been even more iconic with Tati or Alyssa instead of Roxxxy

I agree. Shut Up And Drive was the season's one great moment. I ended up liking Alyssa Edwards and Tatiana more, and Alaska less. While Detox foolishly clung to the alliance when she really didn't need to- Roxxy underperformed and was protected right up to the end. Not my favorite AS by far.
its really just different opinions. People either love or hate rolaskatox and where you fall on the scale greatly changes your AS2 experience.
I respect the hell out of adore for leaving after getting such an intense critique IN THE FIRST EPISODE. Good for her for setting a boundary.
15:57 You didn't mention that Katya was the only one that was eligible for the "You don't look like her / Your outfit doesn't look like anything she wore" critique, since Lady Diana was the only character we have pictures to compare to. That was something no other queen had to worry about.
And as you said, she had one of the worst lyrics and there was literally nothing she could do to make it funny. And not only that, but trying to make too much could have seen as disrespectful do Diana and her family. That's another thing no other queen had to worry about.
And I think it was unfair for Katya to be in the bottom because of her dress/wig during the rusical and because she wasn't able to make a princess who died in a car crash funny. To me this kind of challenge is always unfair, because some queens get a clear advantage with the role they get, and it was worst in this case, because the roles were assigned by production.
I absolutely agree that Katya shouldn't have been critiqued on historical accuracy. I mean just Michelle's comment about wanting the train didn't make sense. How on earth could anyone (not just Katya, not even Brooke Lynn could pull it off) have done a group dance number in a gown with a full train on that size stage? That's not possible.
And as someone who grew up in Ohio (where she's from) and obsessed with her as a kid, I have seen tons of pictures of Annie Oakley. Alyssa looked NOTHING like her. She's brunette for one, not blonde. Her hair didn't have tons of volume like that. She didn't wear animal print. Her dresses came to mid-calf. Her gun was a long barrel shot gone, not a pistol. Did Alyssa take the vague concept and drag it to hell in a way that ultimately worked? Sure. But it's not accurate.
Do I think Katya's outfit or wig were good? Honestly, no I don't. But complaining about the accuracy of it...destroys the point of doing campy drag to me? And is something that couldn't have been done in the challenge for Princess Di, at least in her wedding gown. So..what's the point?
@Emily PRAJOGO Yes! When I watched it with my family I pointed out that in Marie Antoinette’s era THERE WOULD NOT BE NEON COLORS! Her hair would be GRAY, and her dress would be VERY muted and pastel colors, not neon red/yellow! Literally Katya was more accurate than Detox.
What about Roxy ? I agree with your opinion though.

Still, it would require Katya much more effort to save herself from a bottom placement than the effort required to other queens. And if she had done a little black dress reveal, it could still have been perceived as offensive...
Alaska had a very basic outfit, but was given props, funny lyrics, dancers doing funny stuff, so judges could easily overlook the outfit... Katya had a basic outfit, was given no props, awful lyrics, no dancers, so the outfit ended up mattering... It's really unfair competition.
Coco having to change last minute makes so much sense. I couldn’t believe a seasoned performer like Coco would deliberately do that routine without something happening behind the scenes.

Roxxy also revealed recently how Tatiana had a beef with a producer behind the scene. And then bam, she went home immediately.
I still can't deal with the fact they got a "marketing expert" for the Branding Challenge, then he tells Katya her idea is bad only for her to win, and tells Tatianna her idea was great only for her to go home. It was pure camp. That man needs to go back to college.

It was the fact that Alaska kept insisting that Rolaskatox weren't back together, when it was blatantly obvious it was and was the only reason Roxxxy got through. Im still salty about Katya not just with the crown but that Cherrybomb lipsynic. Katya was the double of Joan Jett and should have won over Alaska doing the same stuff she had done in all her Lipsynics.

And the funny thing to me is that she would probably not even think and send roxxy home if she was against detox. Like no brainer. And I’m not saying this as shade against roxxy.

Rolaskatox just felt really annoying this season. It was literally the Season 5 final few episodes but Katya as Jinx.

Alaska could have worn nothing and still deserved to win, she was easily the best in the challenge.
Katya won the Cherry Bomb lipsync. Sorry. She lost the other 2 lipsyncs but she easily won that particular one.

I’m sorry but I completely disagree with saying that there’s no riggery in the eliminations. We all know now that Ru is made aware of who each queen chose. There is no way that little bit of knowledge never influenced Ru’s decision. Not to mention, who’s to say that the queens even choose which lipstick? It’s completely possible, and likely tbh, that some top queens have been swayed by the producers a time or two.
But, Ru choose the bottoms BEFORE the queens pick lipsticks. So it's ultimately out of her an the producers hands

Alaska 100% should’ve been in the bottom 2 during the baddest bitches in herstory challenge. Her dancing was bad and she was completely forgettable once her part was done. And Detox should’ve eliminated her over that tantrum she threw

Not really Katya was the worst by far both on the runway and in the challenge and Gingers runway was horrendous, Alaska was just as meh in the performance but her runway was better than theres so its justifyable but she should of been low and Roxxxy high

Alaska was the worst in the challenge. The padding, the lipsyncing, the snake. They were all off. I rlly dont think her runway would save her.

Unpopular opinion here but detox shouldn't of won. Katya was critiqued because of her outfit yet detox was a neon pink and yellow Marie Antoinette? Hasn't ever sat right with me
Bianca, Trixie, Katya, Adore and Plastique are probably the most followed queens online right now thats pretty impressive from Plastique considering she was on Season 11 no other spin off and that was pretty recently and placed 8th

Alaska DID NOT win the Cherry Bomb lip sync. She only won cause Katya had Roxxy's lipstick. The producers absolutely rigged it to make sure Rolaskatox made it to the final 4. Then once again take one of them out by a quirky queen. The only difference is they gave it Alaska.

I think more than the "underdog" storyline, she was casted to introduce her back to the drag race audience considering S2 was ages ago. She also had to redeem her bad runways.

They asked the public to retweet the queen they want to win. Detox and Roxxy had around 1000, alaska 1500, and Katya 13000. That's all i have to say
if Katya had a reveal into the infamous 'little black dress' from the wedding gown, that could have at least saved her from the bottom maybe. but there's a lot fo reasons Diana was a rough choice to make entertaining

There are definitely the “delusional stans” who think Katya should’ve won all 3 of her lip syncs and the crown, and no that is not true. Gotta say though, I genuinely don’t know what people are seeing in the cherry bomb lip sync to think Alaska won, I don’t even think it was close. To me the reason for Katya’s loss there was blatantly obvious, she didn’t choose Tati to go home.

Alaska's lipsyncs are so uncomfortable to watch I would always end up skipping in the middle.
Not 3, but cherry bomb hands down (not only she performed better than her opponent, but also did so through the disruption). The other two.. I dunno. In the makeover episode it was her vs Detox's left buttcheek and right buttcheek, which is an uphill battle. They were both funny, performed well and I would have them both win, but if I'm forced to pick just one, it's Detox's win by a slim crack size margin.
E2 lipsync could go either way, but Alaska forcibly disrupted her opponent which should disqualify her from winning this lipsync, leaving Katya as a winner by default
@@stanislavmegued554 I really liked all of Katya’s lip syncs but Cherry Bomb was very obvious. Good point on the ep2 one though, Alaska was very disruptive in her lip syncs during the season and I didn’t care for them for that reason, even when she objectively won

The issue I take with Alaska winning isn't that she did poorly (though truly some of her challenge wins were just given to her ) it's that she said point blank that she would bribe the other queens with her winnings if she could stay. I think if that had happened in any other season then the queen would have been given the boot

I’m sorry but this is one of the weirdest arguments that borders on the contrarian. This wasn’t an explicit rule, but rather a quip from Rupaul to Mimi, warning the other contestants that they probably shouldn’t lift each other up in the middle of lipsyncs. I mean that exact same season we later saw Raja and Carmen performing live foreplay. Alaska licking the queens was weird af and probably not consensual, but considering none of these queens made a fuss about it, I imagine that it was more so a gross gesture between friends that ultimately wasn’t a big deal in anyone’s eyes

@@cosmendez8779 Not sorry, but he's absolutely right. There is a fine line between interaction and using other performers as props or hurting their performance. Raja's kiss of death was ok because they both were challenging each other and giving each other cues during the performance. It was interactive. Mimi's thing was not okay, but the community tends to forget how messy some of the lipsyncs were on that season. Watch Venus, then talk about Mimi.
However, if a queen physically interacts with the other queen only to disrupt her, the rule should apply. Thus, regardless of how legendary Alaska is, she should have lost all of her competitive lipsyncs on AS2. Her wins in those performances are the clearest instance of favoritism.

My heart sank when Alyssa went home on the anniversary of her mother’s death. And I was angry for a while, but to put into context: Alyssa’s loss is actually a lot more real to life, and now that moment for me anyway, is an inspiration to get through hardships.

I just watched All Stars 2 for the first time and they edited Phi Phi so dirty. She gave her competitors advice that didn't always work out and they acted like Phi Phi was a master manipulator when she wasn't. It seems to be that the "villain edit" actually just comes from making people look bad for being stressed

Phi phi just called it like she saw it and for some reason that’s a villain. The only thing she did wrong was not say her opinion to alyssas face but why would she if it was negative?? That would no doubt be just more oil to the fire for the producers to villianize her. And people act like her rejecting alyssas hug was like the worst thing since the Holocaust. Idk why everyone jumped on Jaremi for saying the "it's ok cuz you're Alyssa" part because it was completely true. People praise her Snatch Game and I still don't know why; besides the look and the 1000000 "wire hanger" reference there was nothing Joan Crawford about it but somehow people say it's good. Hell, Michelle herself said in the main stage they were giving her passes because she's Alyssa when she wore that atrocity in the "future of drag" runway.
At one point she literally gives completely opposing advice to two queens who are on the same team shit talking the other behind the others back how exactly is that just giving advice that doesn’t always work out?
If you think Detox did better in snatch game than Tatiana... Watch it again. Detox did not get a single laugh, while Tatiana did get a few

Could you examine riggory of the older seasons, because after rewatching the older ones there is still obvious riggory that took place then too, and I feel like it's overlooked due to it being more "obvious" now.
It's still in my mind during the boat challenge on S4 where Billy B (arguably the worst judge on Drag Race with Santino) said that Milan's was selfish and shameful when she did it about peace and harmony basically (if I remember) and Willam (who just put faces of herself on the boat) looked really pretty and had a great boat. While Willam deserved the win, it's so clear sometimes when the judges want a certain contestant out. The most imo would be Shuga during that magic challenge, but the example from S4 is always in my mind.
@@samueljacobson8136 I mainly think about the treatment of Rebecca vs. Shannel is Season 1. Sahara (who would've been High in most other seasons) being put in the Bottom against Shangela for story purposes. Tatiana winning the first Snatch Game for story. And Sharon winning that political challenge over Chad (the only one who was consistently funny)

I think Tatianna paved the way for a winner like Sonique. The fans were pretty upset and seems like they want the underdog to win and stop being so predictable. Tati changed the game

Rolaskatox was probably the worst thing this season had to offer. While Alaska claimed it “wasn’t in full effect” it was clear it was when it came to eliminations, how they always saved Roxxxy, and they let her cruise to the finals even though she stayed in the bottom. We all know that Alyssa should’ve been in the finals instead of Roxxxy.
Can we remind ourselves of Detox's talent show......

i agree that adore shouldnt have been in the bottom, and she was ABSOLUTELY torn to shreds. at this point i think maybe they had to show how much harder allstars was supposed to be and they needed to really critique someone hard to show this to the queens. maybe adore was picked because she did so well on her season and they needed to set an example.
So here's the thing - maybe it was Alaska breaking down or not , but starting with the cherry bomb lip synch to her behaviour when she was in the bottom - That. Was. So. Unprofessional. I don't personally adore her drag style, but offering money around to not get eliminated? I mean I cannot... Katya absolutely wanted to get distance from her in the cherry bomb lipsync, but Alaska didn't care. for me that is such a huuuuuuge deal-breaker.. it's like Tyra Sanchez, it's not the way I want a winner that represents the show to behave... one of the reasons I wish Katya would have win because she became a better person and professional towards the end.. or is it just me?
The only thing i disagree with is that alaska won the lipsync in ep 4.

There was a rumor about Rolaskatox vs Haus of Edwards, but that story arc would have been obvious and more rigged by producers. To be honest, I always felt that Courtney Act deserved to be in AS2, she fits well with the cast
I heard somewhere that it wasn't meant to be 5 from 5 and Coco was there to fill in for Laganja but then I wonder what they intended Alyssa's "pairing" to be

For episode 4 Detox should have been in the top instead of Alaska because Alaska’s runway was terrible and not 2 in 1 so it didn’t answer the assignment.
I agree but people keeps pushing that she should be in the bottom when she was the best in the challenge

@@decemberdowell3779 no lol….detox’s runway was very basic, and even though Alaska flopped at the RUNWAY, the runway barely ever truly matters unless it’s really good or really bad, the judges loved the runway and that’s what matters at the end of the day, and even if you take into consideration them disliking the runway she still would’ve been in the top? The main challenge was the acting challenge and SHE DID THE BEST LOL, the only thing actual,y rigged about that one episode was katya being in the bottom> depends on if they continued the bottom 3 rule- and Phi Phi losing the lipsync, that’s it LOL, you guys need to stop throwing around this word rigged for every opinion that you don’t have it, it’s fucking unfair to the queens who aren’t responsible for judges opinion

It was unfair that the judges liked it because it didn't answer the theme which they've judged other queens for before but suddenly its ok because its Alaska. Also it was cheap because there was no first look and the second was just a tired reused character from season 5. Alaska had so much rigged in her favor this season and thats not me hating on her its production and the extremely questionable judging. Also its almost universally agreed Alaska lost to Phi Phi, she only got it because of storyline purposes with phi phi vs Alyssa. If you're mad about hearing other people's opinion and how certain queens were given favoritism or advantages on certain seasons why are you even here running your mouth?
Ru knows which queen has which lipstick so if there are conflicting lipsticks (like in ep1) production can choose who to send home if the two queens had okay/equally good lipsyncs. I think this was the case w coco/phiphi bc as soon as they learned that coco and alyssa made amends they were like BYEEEE
I truly think WOW liked to invite fan-favorite queens into All Stars and to bring them down, so that they wouldn't over shine the franchise itself.
I think AS2 works because it's based on S5 which was great, but with queens that are already familiar. We had the 2 most prominent storylines from S5 again:
- The Rolaskatox vs Weirdo/Underdog story
- The Alyssa vs another queen
Based on that, Rolaskatox were obviously going to be together, I think Katya is the obvious choice for weirdo but Adore fits the criteria as well, her different style and previous underdog story fits the mold of Jinkx, and both, Katya and Adore, were huge fan favorites. For the other story arc, Alyssa and Coco were casted because of their rivalry/connection.
Phi Phi, Ginger and Tatianna were the obvious cannon fodder.
i hate that from this season on the lipsyncs where mostly comedy, and while yes sometimes it´s nice to have a laugh i found so so anoying that every single time Alaska was performing she made comedy, even if the song had no room for that, and since she won everytime she did that in next seasons of all star the queens took the lipsyncs as a fight to see who make Ru laugh more, that kind act of ruins the lipsync importance, that is why i'm so glad in the new seasons they changed it.

Detox didn’t deserve top 2 in BBIH. She didn’t deserve to be in the top at all. In fact, I’d argue she deserved to be in the bottom more than in the top.

I truly don’t believe detox had any chance to win out of the top three she had the second best track record but the people she went against had bigger fan bases like Katya,Alaska and Alyssa had better chances than she did
The first time a winner was not the person with the most maxi challenge wins was on season 9,and then all stars 3 with trixie.The Logo era always crowned the obvious choices as winners. And in this season it was alaska.i don t think that katya actually deserved her top 2 placements that much tho,like that makeover was not groundbreaking or anything😂 in all stars 4 she would have been in the bottom

Em... episode 6, Alaska winning the lipsync rightfully so? No...no...no. she fucking licked Katya, not only was it done to Katya without consent, and listen to Race Chaser I think it was, because Katya told Alaska she wasn't comfortable with that after the lip sync. Also drag is not a contact sport remember, unless of course, it's consented. I agree with most things in this video, but that is most certainly not one of them

I’m the finale she wasn’t “robbed” but I do think if there was less favoritism through the season she could have won.
My biggest issue with the Cherry Bomb lip sync and where Katya should have won was where Alaska gets right up to her and licks her face which is very violating and breaches the no contact rule (especially when Katya wasn't doing anything to her).

One thing I will say against the thought that the lipsticks weren't riggory was that Katya has mentioned somewhere that in the episode where Alyssa went home she knew she wasn't going to win the lipsync because the producers knew her liptick was for Roxxy. Though she also says somewhere else that she didn't know the words to the song they were doing so who knows lol
The power of Tatianna's same parts was too much to handle so they had to get rid of her
I definitely think the crown could have gone to either Katya or Detox because Alaska had that tantrum. It did so much more than “complete her story arc”. It allowed the excuse of either of the top 3 winning. It allowed everything to feel more organic, and seem that the competition wasnt set up for her if she could go home at the drop of a dime. It really helped seal the deal with everything, not just her own story arc.
Phi Phi was a villain. But she is one of the most talented people to come out of the show. Hate her? can't deny her talent
The note about how many they put in the bottom made the riggory feel so clear in Eureka's favour in the latest episode of AS6 - she could have easily been in the bottom 3 up for elimination, but Ru recided that week should only be a bottom 2. Not that she isn't fierce, but I feel things like this make it clear certain queens are set up to go far regardless

I think Alaska definitely deserved to win. Yes there was favoritism, but you can't deny she played the game and played it well. She still shouldn't have won the Cherry Bomb lipsync though.
I think the same with every allstars they come in with the winner they want and that person wins at all cost because there were challenges where Alaska could’ve been in the bottom to me her rusical performance was not good and her two in one was literally a trash bag and she won that challenge
Thank you. This is what I have always thought. Even if you don’t subscribe to the “drag is not a contact sport” philosophy, you cannot tell me that Alaska out lipsynced Katya that time. Plus, she was all over Katya in a very uncomfortable way, even before she licked her which is disgusting.
Anyone else feeling like All Stars 6 is becoming the best season of All Stars, behind season 2? I have been loving it! But I'm not sure anything will really beat season 2.
i will agree, much as i love Katya, that i dont think she would’ve been crowned, not against Alaska. i think if it was only down to her vs Detox, she might’ve had a stronger case but even then im not sure her track record wouldnt have flicked the crown off her head either. but she certainly got positioned to be the fan favorite the longer that Rolaskatox reigned over the lipstick decisions.
Several things:
1) Coco deserved better.
2) Detox deserved to be in the bottom for her lackluster commercial and poorly-made product, while Tatianna deserved a high placement.
3) Alaska deserved her challenge wins and the crown, but her lip sync wins against Phi Phi and Katya (Cherry Bomb) were VERY questionable.
I feel like the whole roxxy elimination stuff was so out of hand this season though. "Rolaskatox isn't in effect" and then Roxxy proceeds to do the worst for most of the season and ends up in the top 4 somehow
I always thought that the makeover challenge in this was a weird one. The placements were basically decided on who brought their own looks vs who made their own. Love Detox but she literally wore a Marco Marco dress while Roxxxy made hers on the spot

Even if rigged this was the best season of Drag Race ever (so far, because AS6 could soon take it's place in the top if it keeps slaying every episode).
I honestly never got the hype around AS2. Yes it’s really good but there’s some glaring issues with it imo, mainly the cast having so many season 5 girls who obviously wouldn’t vote for each other, and how the show treats PhiPhi on the season just always makes me extremely uncomfortable.
Alaska should’ve been in the bottom for the Herstory challenge and the 2-in-1 look. Roxxxy should’ve gone home a long time ago. We all know Alaska kept Roxxxy around because it guaranteed her a spot in the top 3, since Roxxxy wasn’t a threat, being in the bottom every week.
The reason why this season felt astronomically rigged is because the judges' critiques were so unbelievably inconsistent and contradictory
I found it weird how quickly Tatiana and Roxxy went from being in the top to being in the bottom.
I heard that Detox thought twice and tried to go back and pick Roxxy's lipstick, but wasn't allowed by a producer.... so yeah maybe they were rigging rolaskatox to be on top 4

I think the Herstory of the World winners should have been Alyssa and Roxxxy, actually. Detox had the same line over and over again and wore harsh neon colors as Marie Antionette, which wasn’t a thing back then. Roxxxy looked the part and had a bit of choreography, more so than Detox, so I think she should have been a joint winner with Alyssa.

I have watched this season repeatedly, but one thing I will always laugh at and shake my head at is Tatiana's second elimination. Firstly, I genuinely believe she should not have been in the bottom. The commercial was hilarious and fit her personality perfectly, the outfit and her dances both worked, and she overall came back really strong. The moment Alaska won that challenge, I knew Tatiana was going home simply because no matter their arguments, Rolaskatox was in full formation, but the speech she gave as reasoning was HILARIOUS. "We have one amazing, talented, beautiful queen and the other gave me this shirt." That's it? That's it. Tatiana had the grace to not jump at Alaska for that one because I know damn well I would have if I was in her shoes.
i agree with the placements, but i dont think alaska deserved to win any of her lip syncs since there is only one major rule to lip syncing on drag race, drag is not a contact sport. and alaska made non-consensual physical contact with every queen she was in a lipsync in. she licked katya’s face just to throw her of her game in cherry bomb
I think what frustrates me is that, Alaska didn’t need the rigging. She would’ve won even if the game was played fairly. I think it’s almost insulting that they decided to rig the season in favor of Alaska. It, at least me, feels like they’re saying Alaska just wasn’t good enough to win on her own devices…

I always find myself thinking about random drag race things and how things could have gone differently in certain challenges or what queens could have changed to do better. I think about Katya’s Diana a lot and so far the only thing that’s come into my mind to make the performance better would be if at the part where she goes from sweet to more sexy Katya had done a reveal into Diana’s iconic revenge dress. I think a reveal into a more sexy black dress and then just amping up the sexiness of her movements would have shown a good contrast, been a surprise to the judges, and made her part more interesting. Just a thought though
