The drums are really good. They have top notch drum arrangement. Metallica did it a different way. They built a huge wooden backdrop so the drums would boom like a frigging cannon.
The lyrics of this song are pretty simple, but that doesn’t mean they are not meaningful. In the end it’s about social pressure, which is a bigger issue in Japan than it is here (at least that’s what I take from it). But this is BABYMETAL, so they bring it across in a song about eating sweets with huge smiles on their faces. Works for me!
I never heard of this band when I was living in the US in 2014, my friend got tickets to their world tour and asked if I wanted to go see a metal show. I said sure, even though he wouldn't tell me who we were going to see and when we got there I saw the signs for Babymetal everywhere. Had no clue what was going on, or what I was in store for. From their opening number I was amazed, the crowd was packed and it was a diverse group. Every ethnicity was there, it was amazing to see. I haven't enjoyed a show like that in years.
I've been there, 3 times, in that crowd haha. I got into them in 2013 and was at their first ever UK show in London in 2014. Amazing band, so out of the normal for music this crazy to make it out of Japan, though there are PLENTY of bands like this in Japan. Glad you're finally getting to them!

Due to my ignorance I brushed it off as "Oh. It's just a Japanese thig." when I first saw this. But then...I LISTENED to more. I watched more performances at sold out/packed arenas. And I began to Feel it The Force of the Band. The Energy of the Ladies. The Unity of the mass of humanity gathered at these super shows. The Power of Music. @@donaldt.lavelle7185, unfortunately, Amuse rarely credits the studio musicians so we don't know. We do know that Leda also does some studio work for Babymetal, but is the only kamiband member we know of that does that. It has been speculated that the drummer in studio is Kobametal with his laptop.
Im a 54 year old from South Central Los Angeles who loves metal and rock and discovered Baby Metal about 2 years ago and have been hooked ever since. Went to the Forum show back in October and they were awesome. Not sure who played the drums on the studio track but The Kami band has backed the ladies when they play live. Right now, Japanese lady bands are ruling rock and metal, Bandmaid, Aldious, Lovebites and Marys Blood are some of my favorites.
Your BabyMetal journey cannot be complete without seeing "Rondo of Nightmare (with Mischiefs of God intro)". They give each member of the band a moment to shine on their own before getting into the song. If you really want to see the drummer do his thing, as well as the rest of the Kami Band, you should definitely check it out.

Gimmie chocolate is a fairly silly song but it also does have a message about dealing with weight issues for young girls. Which is what I like about Babymetal, they don’t pretend to be something they aren’t. Their songs are ultimately still relatable to who they are

I THINK this was the first song I heard from them. At first I laughed because the juxtaposition of cute Japanese girls and heavy metal riffs was hilarious. But then I started to listen to more of them, and I concluded that they are extremely inspiring. I recommend listening to more of them!

I saw them when they came to Dallas a year or so ago, that was legit one of the most intense shows I have ever been to. The whole crowd was a massive pit, 10/10 would recommend.

The skeletons in the video are not playing instruments. They are 'babybones' that Babymetal used before the Kami band. Babymetal is actually the 3 girls only. Babymetal existed for years before the Kami band. Babymetal has a backing track they play with. Before the Kami band it contained all the instruments and a very few vocals. Now it has much less obviously. Anything that can be done live is done live. Nobody ever lip synchs or pretends to play. Except the babybones and it was pretty obvious. I don't think their guitars even had strings. It fools people in the videos only because you can barely see them at all. But this is a music video so the audio has been replaced by the album track.
