Blue is known for cheap USB mics, but they actually make decent studio mics, too! Here's my take on the Blue Baby Bottle SL condenser studio microphone review.

I’ve owned this very mic for a couple years now, and I have adored it from day one. Especially using it for spoken word recordings. On its neutral setting (no high-pass) I find its sound to be a little fatter, smooth and generally reminiscent of perhaps a more bygone era sound.
But you hit it on the head Adam, it really does require a reasonably well treated space for it to shine - because it picks up a lot of ambient sound. Yet when that is in play combined with skillful post processing, it has been worth every penny for me.

whenever i first got interested in audio, the blue bottle and kiwi mics were like the dream! then I was sad when blue got primarily associated with their usb mics. im glad that theyre still putting out some cool bottle style mics, i picked up the spark sl blackout for super cheap and am quite impressed!

    1. Props on this amazing title.
    2. I’ve always been curious about this mic so I’m glad you covered it! I’ve seen it used by Alex Melton in some of his music covers and it sounds awesome.

I really like the sound of my Blue Ember. I think that a lot of people equate "blue" with the sound of a cheap built in USB preamp.

I loved my blue baby bottle mic. Saved for like 1 year to buy it with the focuse right scarlet solo. I have never looked back for another mic

Blue Microphones have been some of my favorites over the years. While I find the Yeti generally overhyped, and the almost-as-popular Snowball a bit lacking, their XLR microphones are just lovely - the Bluebird and Baby Bottle are personal favorites, and very satisfying to listen to for voice-over. Definitely recommendations for something with a more unique look, and a sound to match!

The Blue Baby Bottle SL is a gamechanger for a home studio. Great review! I've been using one for a few months now and it's hard to image upgrading any further for RUclips/Twitch content. Or rather, it's hard to justify buying any more expensive mics because the added value is so slim.

By the way, I love your content! Thanks for making reviews accessible and detailed. You've helped me a ton setting up everything from hardware to audio processing to camera/lighting to streaming plugins.

Blue spark was my first mic. Still have it even though it lost the threads for the pop filter. Wish I was in an environment where I didn't need the rejection of a supercardiod dynamic, but until then I've got the trusty Beta 58a. I'll likely upgrade when I'm in a better space. I'll be considering the Baby Bottle if I do not want to spend too much, the Mouse if I can spring for it, against some other mics. EposVox, you should look into the Mouse if you can spring for it. It's tuned for bass and baritone vocals and instruments. Would work as great on your voice as it does on a stand up bass or kick drum. Pretty flat response with a bump around 6khz and a smaller one at 12khz, doesn't start to roll off on the low end until about 40hz.

From the few streamers I follow, there is only one who uses a mic that I figure is that one, and it sounds great, but where it really shines is when she does singing streams, maybe she just has a really good voice for someone who doesn't sing professionally (that I know of), but man, it sounds so clear and maybe it's also that she knows how to use it, but the audio seems good enough for a professional recording.

Nice review. Love Blue microphones and own a few of their original Latvia made mics. Baby Bottle SL sounds great with a slightly more boosted high end than the original Baby Bottle. I would recommend this over a Shure SM7B as a great daily mic for podcasts and video content.

I have been using the Blue BB SL for the last two years. You can imagine my disappointment when I bought into the Beacn HYPE! the Blue BB SL just works SO WELL with my voice I think nearly anything else was bound to be disappointing. I have sense downsized from a GoXLR to the Wave XLR. The Frequency Response in in the PDF you can download from their webpage. It's no Blue Mouse but as I said it works well for my voice.

The blue mics like this have a custom pop filter that is small and it connects to the mic right below the capsule. I have this mic but Im upgrading soon so I prolly won't use it much after that but it is def a great mic Ive just had it for four years and Im ready for some change..

Really love the sound of the Baby Bottle! Upgrading from the Blue Ember to the Blue Baby Bottle SL, the some differences between them (to me, an amateur) are the sensitivity and tone. The Ember requires very slightly more gain and sounds more enclosed/muffled when singing; however, picks up less room noise and sounds comparable when talking normally. When singing, the Baby Bottle SL picks up more of the frequencies higher than 1kHz and sounds more natural.

Very good sounding mic. This could be a runner for me competing with the *vastly* more expensive KSM32 from Shure. A mic that is quite neutral but not dead sounding for a condenser mic. Feels weird to say this considering A certain companies past but... go team blue?

There is a blue pop filter the clamps around the thin neck of the Blue BB SL but it is not included with the new version (Older versions had them.) In all honestly I think it is a little small to be effective and an after market pop filter would serve you better any how.

Hey Epos, love your vids. However, you said dynamic microphones means you can normalize things easier. That's not correct. Normalize means to adjust the volume of your microphone to a certain decibel. Like -3db, -6db, etc. So when you normalize, the gain of your microphone is adjusted (in post) to the exact same DB throughout your entire track. I think you meant to say, dynamic microphones are better for deterring artifacts away and giving a more "consistent" sound. Great vid though! I love the sound of the bottle! Blue makes some great stuff!

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  2 года назад

Normalizing is just a broad term that applies to many things. You, yourself, in your technique, are more easily able normalize the audio being captured with a dynamic. Didn’t mean the post processing normalization.
