    We grew up on Harm Ha, Basically it’s the epitome of Umami!
    Good job with passing on the knowledge of not only the food, but the cooking style and flavors of our youth. The ethnic blend of old school Hawaii is truly extremely complex and a food culture of its own.

    Your recipe is authentic & common local Hawaiian food that's simple & do able. Might have to substitute ingredients due to local. It's good to know.

    Can you substitute the dried shrimp and shrimp paste with fish sauce? For people who are allergic to shrimp.

    Any substitutions for the swamp cabbage in these recipes?

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  3 года назад +1

      You can use other cabbages such as: gailan, watercress, choy sum, Chinese mustard, etc., even beans. Be creative. Make these recipes yours and change around.

    Hi I just bought some oong choy and searched for a recipe to cook it. I saw your recipes. I don't have bean curd and shrimp paste. what can I use as a good substitute?

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  7 месяцев назад +1

      Just cook it plain, stir fry, with garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce or fish sauce.

    I’ve never heard it called swamp cabbage but I’ve heard the name Chinese water spinach. Interesting.

      Guess because it grows with lots of water. When I was little, you could find some near a waterfall near taro patches.
