The shrimp paste and fermented bean curd recipes are favorite dishes i grew up with. So ono. Love that you have Burmese style recipes. Our family loves Burmese cooking too. Thank you for sharing these treasures with us.
We grew up on Harm Ha, Basically it’s the epitome of Umami! Good job with passing on the knowledge of not only the food, but the cooking style and flavors of our youth. The ethnic blend of old school Hawaii is truly extremely complex and a food culture of its own.
Mahalo for teaching, Aunty! Everything looks so ono and healthy. Just discovered your channel and I’m binge watching your cooking!! Started out watching your Prune Mui video. Yummm!! Aloha from the Big Island. Sharing you on Facebook.

You can use other cabbages such as: gailan, watercress, choy sum, Chinese mustard, etc., even beans. Be creative. Make these recipes yours and change around.

Thank you for these Chinese-Cantonese classic dishes.

Your recipe is authentic & common local Hawaiian food that's simple & do able. Might have to substitute ingredients due to local. It's good to know.
Thank you for the Burmiese style, never saw or tried this style💖
My Burmese sister-in-law taught me this as of many Burmese dishes. I'll be making more dishes later.

Glad you like it and hope you try all 3 varieties.
Can you substitute the dried shrimp and shrimp paste with fish sauce? For people who are allergic to shrimp.
yes, you could.
Any substitutions for the swamp cabbage in these recipes?

Like it too, but here the bunches are huge and I'm the only one who really eats it.
Hi I just bought some oong choy and searched for a recipe to cook it. I saw your recipes. I don't have bean curd and shrimp paste. what can I use as a good substitute?
Just cook it plain, stir fry, with garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce or fish sauce.
Thanks very much for your response. I will be using your suggestions.
do you ever use low sodium shoyu?
Yes, That's fine.
Do you have a recipe for pickled ong choy?
No, but you can use the same recipes for some of my pickles on my website. Look under hawaiispicklelady.com under pickles.
Oh ps: how about a nishime recipe 🥰
Look at my website, hawaiispicklelady.com under Noodles and scroll down to sukiyaki. It's basically the same.
I’ve never heard it called swamp cabbage but I’ve heard the name Chinese water spinach. Interesting.
Guess because it grows with lots of water. When I was little, you could find some near a waterfall near taro patches.
