These stretches have been a game changer for femoral nerve pain. I have gotten noticeable relief. I will be doing these stretches daily from now on, thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you. I’m two weeks post-op from an anterior hip replacement. I think they compressed this nerve during the retraction. I pray that they didn’t injure it in any other way. Some of the exercises you suggest conflict with the standard hip replacement guidance (no bridges, no lunges) but I will ease into them regardless. The burning numbness is my only remaining post-surgery pain. I am a very fit 60+ guy, so I think my muscle tone will hold the joint in place during the stretches.
my symptoms are also post-Op from recent anterior total hip replacement. would have been helpful to be informed by surgeon and doctor’s office of this potential, and the cause and remedy, as I’m hoping it lessens over time (I’m 6-wks Post-Op) as my range of motion and activity increases, but I will start these now but also have to balance against other ongoing THR healing. great video. super helpful. thank you!!

I have been suffering with this pain in my right thigh since I had a knee replacement 5 weeks ago on my left knee. It is so painful 😒. My thigh is tender to the touch, almost feels like a bad sun burn, it hurts for the bed sheets to even touch my leg. My leg tingles, burns, pins and needles, feeling, sometimes gets a warm sensation. I am taking physical therapy right now for my left knee that has recently been replaced, PT says this will help as I strengthen my legs. I see a chiropractor as well to help with a curviture in my lower back. My primary care physician will be doing myofacia release on me next week. I need relief. I can't sleep well, I am exhausted and in constant pain.
I haven’t had the burning, luckily, but numbness, and feels like there’s ants on the outside of my thigh, wearing under armor pants in the winter might be part of the cause just started this winter
Hi Paul, I don’t know if I have this or not but, just over 2 years ago (Jan ‘22) 2 weeks before my 50th birthday, l was slightly reclined on our sofa, I was sliding down a bit in the chair, all I did was bend my leg (I can’t remember which leg I bent, but my bad one now is my left leg) to push myself back up into my seat, I used my hands too to push myself backwards, I remember getting a pretty bad pain in my left leg, within the hour I couldn’t hardly use my leg at all, I couldn’t sit down, if lying flat and legs straight I couldn’t raise my leg off the bed or lift it into bed unaided. About 20 times a day I’d get the most excruciating cramp like pain in the front of my thigh, so bad I had to bite down on something and putting ice on it was the only thing that eased it. I had to use crutches to move. This lasted 3 weeks before I got some (yet very painful) mobility back. I’m now left with weird multiple sensations in my leg (to describe it all would make this already too long post ridiculously long). Most of the time my knee and thigh area feels tightly bound in bandages with numbness and pain and wired feelings like my leg/foot is wet when it isn’t 🤔. I have chronic low back pain 24/7 (for 30 years now) and about 10 years ago was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Leading up to this I’d been trying to get some mobility back by using a treadmill. My own physiotherapist doesn’t seem to know what the problem is or my G.P, I’d very much appreciate and welcome any ideas you may have. Your exercise where you’re on 1 knee where your other legs’ foot is on the floor would be impossible for me to do. Thank you so much for reading this long post and I really hope you, or someone with the same symptoms, sees my post …….. Jan (🇬🇧)
I have heard it is weight gain too. I have gone from a dress size 8 to a size 10. I have definitely hurt my back at some point and now my whole body seems out of alignment with neck pain that may also relate to numbing in my arms hands and fingers.
thankyou Dr. for your information, my numbness occurred after about 4 weeks of heavy strength training with my legs, i was going super deep in my squats with heavy weights and now i know that was the cause. i feel an uncomfortable sensation right in that spot where the nerve is when i squat really low. if i try squats with no weight added will the numbness and pain subside?
Problem is in the US, we’ve lost full body treatment doctors. Too many specialists, each behaving like our body parts aren’t connected. 😢 I’ve had terrible burning but only in the thigh of my knee replacement. (Rheumatoid arthritis)
I think this is what I am experiencing. I gained weight as well. I can’t go for walks and getting in and out of the car hurts. I’ll have to try these exercises and lose the weight.
My quadriceps get light to moderate numbness and tingly when leaning forward while leaning over a sink, bending, walking and sometimes they get a dull ache while moving. I can't figure it out. I've had MRI of my back. I do have a herniated disk in my L4 L5 area. No lesions in brain or spine. Lucky.
This was a great video! Thanks! I'll definitely try these exercises. Question: is Meralgia Paresthetica always in the right thigh? If so, should my right knee be the one to the mat and the left leg knee is up on the exercise where I lean my trunk forward over one knee (exercise toward the end). You did it as right knee up and left knee to the mat, so I wasn't sure. Please reply if you can. Thanks!
Begining of Aug 2023 I felt numbness just standing while shopping this happen to me 2x Last week and today. Last week I got on the same day but sleeping numbness. I haven't gotten it sleeping since. I didn't know what I have til I stumble upon this video. Always the left Leg my non-domanint. Why do I get it? 0verweight?!? I'm not wearing anything restricted. It doesn't hurt just numbness and I feel a bit embarrass when shopping. I have to slap my thigh to get it to wake up.
I don't how but I get this while playing Soccer . Most of the yt video coment say they have it for very long time which scare me . Will I won't be able to play match again?😥
I went to a neurologist and she told me that some people are predisposed for this and there is nothing really you can do. She told me to take vitamin b1 to help the nerve. When I ask her if exercise would help she said that I would waist my time since it’s a nerv issue and massage or exercise won’t relieve it. Idk if she does note know what’s she is taking about ? She mentioned that a lot of people have the same complaints. To be honest the vitamin B1 did help by reducing the symptoms. Lately my symptoms came back and it’s worse lying down..did any exercise help alleviate the symptoms? Thanks
I had two hip replacements years ago anterior approach front of the hip. Not only is my thigh numb with no feelings but now both my thighs are so fatigued and weak all day it's giving me major anxiety nobody can seem to help me I had one physician that said you just have to live with it any idea what I have

I’m a personal trainer and a Uber driver pretty fit but I started getting this after a year of driving Uber for long periods of time I thing it’s cuz I slouch to the right when I drive putting pressure on the right hip
Thank you for the informations! I started to feel a little numbness on my right thigh during and after my leg day. I did some heavy squats and double leg press. Is there a way to prevent this while keeping the intensity of my training?
Is it common/possible to have most of the trouble on the outside of the lower thigh towards the side of my knee. Most of my discomfort is not high in my thigh at all, rather its about half way down on the outside of my thigh to my knee. But it is burning, numbness, tingling. It isn't complete numb, if I pinch my skin where the numb feeling is it hurts I can feel that fine. Thanks
Same here, the worst pain is above my knees and lower parts of thighs, also got some pulling sensation/pain in my inner thighs. Diagnosis was marelgia paresthetica.
Thank you so much for giving a clear and direct information about this pain And uncomfortably. This is happening with my leg after I give birth. And the pain Goes from 3 to 6 of the time.😭 And it doesn't go away it stays in 3 in a scale from 1 to 10.
Tight belt man, thats what caused mine, I used to wear scrubs and would tighten my rope around em so tight it would cut off circulation when i sat down and would sometimes hurt, then Id go run and i'd always wonder why the front of my thighs would start going numb and burn, figured it was cutting off circulation didnt know it was from nerve dmg, that sux... now everytime i lay on my stomach it starts going numb
Thanks!! This started very recently, and I have been very concerned. I have a new hip from 2022. But, I also have a terrible lumbar.😖 I’m getting physical therapy soon, truly hoping it is resolved!!!
Hey, I started jogging and stretching my hip flexors regularly as well as picking up certain routines for stregthening the muscles involved to fight my hollow back. I now started experiencing numbness in my outer thighs, especially after the one kneed lunge hip flexor stretch. Should I keep the routine up?
Mine started from my ultrasound preparation. Drank 1litre bout 2 hrs to the imagine . And not allowed to pee 2hrs before That put serious pressure on my bladder until I couldn't take it anymore. 😮 Before thhid I've had pain in my loin and scrotum
Mine started during 2nd trimester of pregnancy almost 3 yrs ago. PT helped initially and resolved but it came back and then didn't respond to the exercises I was doing. I'm going to try the massage gun and try to get sensation back.
Mine was also caused by pregnancies. Came and went through the first couple babies but came to stay after 3rd pregnancy. It's been 10 years and I'm so tired of numb, burning legs. I toss and turn all night. Maybe this will help.
@mrsalethajune The stretching really does help, you just have to stay consistent. For busy moms, it's hard but I find keeping a regimen around meal times helps me help myself. Good luck to you!
I have this while pregnant! I’m not even showing yet and I’m very fit (bodybuilder at 17% body fat), so it’s definitely my uterus being rude as it grows. This is so frustrating 😢
I got this after. Cortisone injection in my hips. I was diagnosed by a neurologist. I literally couldn’t walk for a year until the cortisone wore off. It was horrible. I will never get another injection in any joint again.
Ive heard this and genuinely feel for you. Having said that I was just the opposite with a shoulder injury... a cortisone shot did the trick. My thoughts to this day are... cortisone works at some ratio... something like 50/50. Adding to that, the shot was administered by a person who was taking care of the Australian Olympic Volleyball team so I think they had a better idea than most about how and what exactly to do. I was very lucky.

thankyou Dr. for your information, my numbness occurred after about 4 weeks of heavy strength training with my legs, i was going super deep in my squats with heavy weights and now i know that was the cause. i feel an uncomfortable sensation right in that spot where the nerve is when i squat really low. if i try squats with no weight added will the numbness and pain subside?
Been going crazy thinking I was losing my mind or losing leg function lol. THANK YOU
Problem is in the US, we’ve lost full body treatment doctors.
There could be other reasons why you have this pain so make sure you rule those out also ( hip arthritis or labral tear)
Thanks!
If its the right thigh, then the right knee has to be on the mat.
I have mine in my left thigh.
I have it in both
Mine itches really bad too is that normal
Begining of Aug 2023 I felt numbness just standing while shopping this happen to me 2x Last week and today. Last week I got on the same day but sleeping numbness. I haven't gotten it sleeping since. I didn't know what I have til I stumble upon this video. Always the left Leg my non-domanint. Why do I get it? 0verweight?!? I'm not wearing anything restricted. It doesn't hurt just numbness and I feel a bit embarrass when shopping. I have to slap my thigh to get it to wake up.
If you never got hurt why its happening what should we do to treat it so it doesn't get bad over time
I don't how but I get this while playing Soccer .
Thanks
Sir can ypu show me clawhand exercise
I had two hip replacements years ago anterior approach front of the hip. Not only is my thigh numb with no feelings but now both my thighs are so fatigued and weak all day it's giving me major anxiety nobody can seem to help me I had one physician that said you just have to live with it any idea what I have
If you have skin numbness along inner thigh as well as the tingling / burning on the outer side is it something other than MP ?
Have Spondylolisthesis and Meralgia Parasthetica. I fortunately have no pain but only loss of strength in my left knee. Any recommendations for exercises?
I have a psoas muscle that’s pinned, is this nerve often a part of the psoas problem?
I’m a personal trainer and a Uber driver pretty fit but I started getting this after a year of driving Uber for long periods of time I thing it’s cuz I slouch to the right when I drive putting pressure on the right hip
Thank you for the informations! I started to feel a little numbness on my right thigh during and after my leg day. I did some heavy squats and double leg press. Is there a way to prevent this while keeping the intensity of my training?
You probably want to avoid deep squats where the pinch occurs.
@@OrthoEvalPal Thank you for your reply!
Thanks
Exactly the same here.
Same here
Did you get a diagnosis?
Yep. Tight fitting clothes around the waistline for anyone who suffers from MP is a BIG no-no.
I've started doing hip thrusts at the gym and have noticed this- im wondering if the heavy weight from the bar is compressing the nerve
Very possible.
Thanks!!
This started very recently, and I have been very concerned.
I have a new hip from 2022. But, I also have a terrible lumbar.😖
I’m getting physical therapy soon, truly hoping it is resolved!!!
I sit a lot as part of my work. What kind of chair do you recommend to minimize discomfort related to Meralgia Paresthetica?
I would say one with a mesh bottom
Hey, I started jogging and stretching my hip flexors regularly as well as picking up certain routines for stregthening the muscles involved to fight my hollow back. I now started experiencing numbness in my outer thighs, especially after the one kneed lunge hip flexor stretch. Should I keep the routine up?
wouldnt be running
Mine started with over stretching, stop stretching…
Do you have any modifications for a pregnancy, as I can’t lay on my stomach of course?
Hi dr. I have the burning and numbness right back thigh it’s too much while driving.. should i do the same exercise ?
Mine is at the front and then goes inner thigh. I think it happened from using the row machine too much.
Mine started from my ultrasound preparation. Drank 1litre bout 2 hrs to the imagine . And not allowed to pee 2hrs before That put serious pressure on my bladder until I couldn't take it anymore. 😮
Before thhid I've had pain in my loin and scrotum
I think i have this. My pain is above my knee across my thigh.
Be sure to have your medical provider check it out.
I have this while pregnant! I’m not even showing yet and I’m very fit (bodybuilder at 17% body fat), so it’s definitely my uterus being rude as it grows. This is so frustrating 😢
Uhg yes I had this with my last pregnancy and it lasted a year after birth 😢 now with my 2nd it's back! Hopefully doing some stretching helps 🙏🏻
Still unsure what I've got. Outer hip, buttock and lower back numbess. Only pain in and around outer hip joint. Pins and needles in foot. 😢
I have bilateral femoral pinched nerves. My symptoms are burning and weakness in my legs. I just had MRIs and saw a neurosurgeon. The doctor said its not from my back. Will the exercises help me?
They can if done lightly but not as beneficial as if it was meralgia paresthetica. Best of luck!
This exercise for how many days to continue sir.
Dude, sounds like Bob Odenkirk
