    These are good but you need more than 1 just incase it fails . I had one fail and the flame was on the inside case because something internal failed . Quite dangerous if you ask me .

    To use as one's main lighter for starting fires on camping trips, would you recommend a plasma lighter over a butane torch lighter (like the Soto xl pocket torch or Scorch Torch)? I am struggling to chose which one to buy for someone who enjoys camping.

      its one of my main lighters , the great thing about the plasma lighter is its rechagerble . i use a battery bank/solar to charge when needed. it will out last any butane lighter for sure. butto be on the safe side always have a good fire steel . hope this helps.

    Think I'll give one of these a go. Had similar thoughts myself. I tend to prefer a clipper lighter as everything is replaceable and refillable with a removable sparker. That said long one of these could be the way to go. Only time will tell how long one of these will last but definitely worth a shot. Thanks for the video.

    Candle plasma lighters with long necks can get into the heart of a fire better than one with a flip lid. But the candle lighters are about 8" long, to long for a pocket and big for a pack. But with pushup prongs and no flip lid, the short lighters are ideal.

    I doubt it can go through a washing machine and still function like a Bic. Honestly only the dryer has killed mine because because they’re empty when they come out. Trying to light a cigarette in the wind the plasma lighters make a ton of sense but for survival not so much.

      @@PRACTICALBUSHCRAFTSURVIVAL You guys are getting sucked into cool tech. Butane & petrol lighters are ultra reliable. Not only that but for the same price I can buy several lighters with a good amount of fuel. Backup lighters are more important in a survival situation than complete windproofness. Your electric lighter will fail because those batteries wear out after repeated recharges. You can verify this by looking at the negative reviews on amazon, they are either outright failures for no reason (which would be unusual for a flint lighter) or the battery died from wear and tear.
      If you bought 4 clipper lighters for a fiver instead you still have 3 other working lighters. If you have a petrol lighter you can replace the material and wick with naturally made versions and still have it work. For pure survival versatility you will not beat a petrol lighter and how much it can use in terms of fuels in a tight spot. They just dry out too fast in normal usage unless you smoke 40 a day.

      @@PRACTICALBUSHCRAFTSURVIVAL Yes they are cool and I would quite like one lol, but you've missed the point a little. Anything you rely on in a survival situation needs to be tested to destruction. These lighters have far more potential ways to fail than a simple flint + petrol/butane lighter. I also don't see any big reliable brand names, far too many potentially cheaply designed options out there. It's pot luck to some degree.
      Day to day they are probably easier to use and have advantages, although I'd imagine over the course of their life they are still slightly more expensive than the proven tech. I wouldn't rely on them is my position.

  • @justin00ish
    @justin00ish 7 лет назад +3

    well if you drop it in the water or it gets rained on it will never work again because the electrical components will be damaged, its not designed to get wet at all, on the other hand a bic lighter can survive being fully submerged if you let it dry out for a few minutes to an hour because its only mechanical so i think its safe to say there is still a spot in every bug out bag for a bic, at least until they make a waterproof survival ark lighter with a window punch no dought ;)
