I fell in love with Ida Lupino the first time I saw her in High Sierra with Humphrey Bogart - such a tough but vulnerable character. I didn't know how many TV shows she directed episodes of until recently - The Donna Reed Show, 77 Sunset Strip, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Have Gun Will Travel, Thriller, The Fugitive, Dr. Kildare, The Twilight Zone, and Bewitched. She is the only woman to have directed an episode of the original Twilight Zone and star in one as well. Thanks for the sauce PizzaFlix!
anonagain The twilight Zone episode was good. I can remember as a boy people talking her name in admiration. I think she was from Shoreham not far from my place then. ( name dropper I am! )
“Ida Lupino was an English-American actress, singer, director, and producer. She is widely regarded as one of the most prominent female filmmakers working during the 1950s in the Hollywood studio system.” _Hardly under-appreciated, eh?_
Fantastic, and Ida Lupino wonderful as always. Nothing Hollywood can offer today compares to the era where there was real talent and imagination in filmmaking.
Loved it. Ida Lupino made this just after her production company, which produced such classics as The Hitchhiker and Not Wanted, went bust. The studio made it clear that her directorial skills, along with her social justice themes, were not wanted. They only wanted her as an actress. She went along, but eventually got to direct many TV episodes and films in the 1950s and 1960s. This TV film was short but packed a huge punch. It was a worthy forerunner to the Hammer House of Horror, the Twilight Zone and others.
The director, Roy Kellino, was the first husband of James Mason's wife Pamela. The three had worked together in England before the war. Like Ida Lupino, Pamela Mason remolded herself into an American.
@lana lake Didn't know that, thanks. Mason was a fascinating fellow who has never been properly written up. He was a top student at Cambridge University (architecture) who got the acting bug and went full Hollywood, but never lost touch with his Yorkshire roots and played some northern English characters (e.g. 'Spring and Port Wine') as well as domineering millionaires as he aged. He could do rich or poor, Brit or American. Perhaps his versatility limited his renown- lazy critics tend to praise stars who have one image and stick to it. Mason always liked to walk the hero-villain line: from his UK days as the glowering matinee idol you loved to hate through to 'Dr Fischer and the Bomb Party'. He could play the vulnerable ordinary guy, e,.g. in 'Bigger Than Life', and was wonderful as Brutus in 'Julius Caesar' amid the big theater names, but was a scene-stealer as a black hat. For my money he purloins 'North by North West; from Cary when he shows up at the denouement, just as he beat Brando in 'Caesar'. When the aged DW Griffith first saw JM he said 'That Mason is the greatest actor'.
@lana lake Fun fact: Mason's ex, Pamela Kellino, is one of the panelists on 'What's My Perversion?', the spoof game show in Woody Allen's 'Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex'. But if I ramble on like this, RUclips mods will bust me for going OT. I do think Ida Lupino's career was remarkable. No Brit ever Americanized more flawlessly- many US fans had no notion she was a Limey. She came from a cockney vaudeville family, yet her persona aligns her with the great tough ladies such as Crawford, Davis and Stanwyck. Margaret Lockwood, who is unknown in the States, was probably the closest British equivalent, but she stayed home. She co-starred with James Mason in the trash classic 'The Man in Grey'- oh dear, there I go again.
If you are referring to Four Star, the production company (with Charles Boyer and David Niven, and another whom I can’t presently recall), which she joined to replace Joel McCrea after he left... I was disappointed and disheartened to learn that she was the sole producer who never owned stock in the company. 😔 I think that company lasted many years, though, so perhaps you are referring to another, previous to that.💙
hahahahaha...i knew when they went in the kitchen she was going to walk out ....and then she pulled the door knob out...really good show...Four Star shows were always good....love Dick Powell as Dante and all his quick witted comebacks.
Nice! Upto the viewer to decide whether she went insane. I believe she wasn't. She hid the record & locked them in. It shows intent. 2 things cant be random. Also she escapes by foing those 2 things. Clever Diana.
Short but with great substance... Betrayal has always been indeed the most painful thing in this world most especially if it involves ur trusted best friend o just a friend with ur own husband/wife.... so watch out... choose very well your circle of friends and ur best friend lol... Anyways thanks for sharing this short but wonderful movie!! always have loved watching Ida's movies!!!
Ive loved Ida Lupinos personality snd her acting has always been top notch. This tv show is most memorable amd enjoyable, i like the early tv prductiòns they hold many memories for me ,thanks P F
Those were the days when your friends ALWAYS knew someone to introduce you to! Not today...go to the internet. Another thing was....people would actually “Ring” your phone, TILL-YOU picked Up!

Ms. Lupino seldom received enough recognition deserved for the more then good actor she was ! ! As a young girl she came off as trail , even tragic....later Ida's attempts at playing sex symbols were okay yet not really HOT as they say ! Most actors enjoyed co-staring with her....they knew she'd make THEM look great when she was both on screen or behind cameras as well ! ALWAYS tried to watched her ...... STILL do ! PIZZAFLIX always enjoy your slices.... you NEVER FAIL to DELIVER . Thanks for making sure we ALL get our share of entertainment !
Thank you so much for this gem.. I've recently watched a lot of Ida Lupino movies I remember my mom used to like her and her movies.... I can't believe I've never watched High Sierra which I'm about to! Thanks Pizza flicks I'm enjoying the sauce too!😊
Just recently seen Ida Lupino in a 1974 episode of TV's Columbo. Episode titled Swan Song. It also starred the man in black himself Johnny Cash. Ida still looked good even in this. Alas, she was killed off only 10 minutes or so into this episode but still worth watching.
I am 77 years old. When I was a little boy I saw pretty much this same story on a different program. I'm sure it was a different program because I recall the sets and the actress who played the captive girl. I also remember, very distinctly that she tried to break the window by throwing something at a window, but the item crumbled in her hand. It ended the same way, by the captive young woman walked out the opened door which closed as she left, locking the couple in the un LEAVEABLE apartment. It made a great, life long impressions on me. I have described the plot and the sets to others many times over the years. I am 100% certain it was a different production. Gee, it is spooky to have seen this production. Wow. Such a clear and ancient memory. Wow.
I like watching these noir-ish episodes, often done like films. Ida was the best...Everybody smokes like crazy, motives are murky, men are up to no good, and women get tangled up in danger. Ah, the old days of real dramatic tv and movies...

anonagain
Don't forget the 1953 movie "The Hitchhiker," which she directed.
@@rainwalker2254 Best film noir ever directed by a woman- in fact, possibly the best Hollywood movie by one. Dorothy Arzner never did better, anyhow.
anonagain The twilight Zone episode was good. I can remember as a boy people talking her name in admiration. I think she was from Shoreham not far from my place then. ( name dropper I am! )
I think Ida Lupino is a good actress and I always enjoy her movies...was almost in tears to see her going through that but the ending brought me joy
Anything with Ida Lupino is worth seeing. She was a wonderful actress.
I agree ....🙂
And director
That was outstanding! What a terrific actor Ida Lupino was!
Wow what a position to be in, very spooky. Oh how they don't make films like this, thank you ........
Stories were so intelligently written and well-acted back then. It's a joy to watch these programs. Thank you, PizzaFlix!
When all seems lost...
A spark of brilliance. Ida Lupino, Bravo!
Magnificent storytelling in only 24 minutes! Talent all around. AWESOME story!
More proof Ida Lupino is always worth watching! Thanx for another delicious slice of vintage tv pizza. You spoil us PizzaFlix!
Ida Lupino was a very underrated actress. Love her.
Ida was and.still is HIGHLY RATED.!
Frances Austrawski She wasn't underrated ( with respect ). She was a big star - with Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart - lots.

Ida Lupino is one of the best! Greatly underappreciated, but well appreciated here. Thank You, PizzaFlix.

NuncNuncNuncNunc She wasn't underappreciated.
I've been impressed with Ida Lupino since childhood, she is Golden ♊✨🙏
Always loved Ida Lupino...class, charm, intelligence, talent, and a pioneer when there were no female film directors. Thanks for sharing.
Actually, Dorothy Arzner directed movies in the thirties and forties then directed for TV.
That was blooming brilliant , she caught them out ! Did she direct this superb
Another great movie. I loved the ending. Ida Lupino was a great actress and director. Thank you for this program from the 1950's
Thanks for showing. The old ones are still the best.
Love the short films. They tell a long story in a short time. ❤️
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the sauce be with you. 🍕🍕🍕
It is refreshing to watch something that doesn’t have a flashback every few minutes!
Fantastic, and Ida Lupino wonderful as always.

there should be more thrillers like this....loved it...…..short but very sweet (revenge)

All that's said about Ida is true. But this is a gem of twist, plot & intriguing writing in the story itself.
Thank you so much for this gem.. I've recently watched a lot of Ida Lupino movies I remember my mom used to like her and her movies.... I can't believe I've never watched High Sierra which I'm about to! Thanks Pizza flicks I'm enjoying the sauce too!😊
Hi Sylvia 🍕High Sierra is my favorite Ida Lupino movie 🍕
It was a great movie but of course I have to watch it again! And again and again LOL
I was shocked the way the story finishes i bever thought it would end that way good job she did by tricking the two of them. Very intelligent !!!!!
Wow ! Brilliant

What a flick, keep them coming. Thank you for sharing 🎥. ❤
Speaking of flicks, King did a fine flick of his cig while on the bed! Dang funny as a blooper. Or was he directed to do it? Funny either way!
Great suspense movie with great ending
