  • My best attempt to explain the inner workings of Canyon’s somewhat bizarre headset used for the Aeroad and now the Ultimate.

After an accident I think I have to replace the fork and CP0018 of my Canyon Endurace and I could not find a lot of information about how to do this. Your video is very helpful for me. Thank you !!! :-)

was really digging the clean look and about to purchase a new ultimate. but after watching this I honestly will go with simpler design and look elsewhere.
Thank you so much for the thorough explanation!

Now to see if the CP0048 will work or if they're pulling our leg...

For sure. Seems very ridiculous if it didn't work. And it looks identical. The head tube on the new aeroad is slightly slimmer, so who knows if they tweaked the actual dimensions of the steerer on the fork.

Nice video mate, also have an aeroad with cp0018 and was very confused as to how it all fit together

Great video, thank you so much! I've just got my long-awaited Canyon Ultimate CFR framekit, and was wondering whether or not I should disassemble the headset. Cons: hydraulic brakes. Pros: I can sleep peacefully knowing that headset is properly lubed; I can wire up the "wireless" Dura Ace shifters(don't want to find myself with dead shifters in the middle of nowhere because of dead CR1632 batteries). And after watching your video disassembly it is :). Thank you!

The structure of the headset is designed to be extremely vulnerable to the infiltration of moisture (sweat, rain). This is already the second time I've replaced the bearings, and I have to take them out from time to time to clean the rust. So I was considering enduro stainless bearings. Is it possible to protect against rust?
There is virtually no damage underneath. Only the upper bearing is the problem.

I was not able to make the upper enduro bearing actually work without the top cap rubbing on the frame. It must just be slightly smaller in effective height.

@@DogDude4all thanks for reply. I'm using an older wired di2 11s, so replacing the headset bearings is a pain. I'll probably change it to another normal frame soon.

Hey! Is it even possible to mount the new adjustable handlebar to my Ultimate 2020 1 1/4 steerer tube. Even if it would involve 3d printed spacers?

    Hey,
    great video!
My headset came loose and when I pulled my handlebar up (at the end of a ride) the entire cockpit came apart: is that normal? Is the headset tool necessary?

Hi. Great video. I was looking at more details on the bolt/screw that goes into the headset spacer on the headset. I didn’t see you talk about this piece. What does it screw into and what kind of bolt is it?

can you confirm how canyon measures the "stem" for this bar. on the website they say integrated cockpits are measured center to base of bar. or is it center to center? have seen conflicting reports. Thanks!

Based on my 90 mm, I think it was center to center, but I will measure the 100mm and get back to you.

Hello, I have the same bike and when I turn the handlebars to the left it turns freely without resistance. To the right I feel some resitance at 30-40 degrees. I already tried loosening and tightening the top bolt but that did not work. Any idea how to fix this?

    • @DogDude4all
      @DogDude4all  Месяц назад

I would guess that one of the hoses is likely binding in there. The first step in my opinion would be to pull the ends of the bars and gently try to feed some of the brake hose back in and see if that makes any difference. Otherwise, I think you might have to disassemble and look at the hose routing.

@@DogDude4all Thank you for the recommendation. Unfortunately it didn't work. It feels like it is grinding something very lightly. Maybe its the IPU screw you showed at min 15:30? Can I tighten it without it being harmful? Very strange I only have it on one side.
