  • The Black Creek Labs (BCL) Bison Scout is a bolt action, magazine fed rifle made in Canada by BCL. It takes STANAG mags as well as a proprietary magazine made just for it. Right now, these retail for around $1000. Note: this specific rifle has had the stock replaced and a different flash hider installed than what comes from the factory. The factory brake on a 12″ barrel is like a slap in the face every time you shoot it so you may want a flash hider instead.

I had the Sam issue with my bison (light primer strike and poor ejection). I contacted the company and they paid to have the rifle shipped to them and they fixed it. It functions flawlessly now. They even threw a magazine in. Very happy with this company

The very early serial numbers shipped without safety position indication, when I reached out to them about this they offered to fix it. Essentially ship it to them, they machine the indicators into the stock and ship it back to you no charge (other than initial shipping).

    Mine is a 12.5" in 7.62X39.
It was a later production model with an already upgraded bolt spring spacer, end cap and extractor. So far i've put a full 500 round spam can of the most nastiest, barrel-eating, steel cased surplus ammo through the rifle that goes "pow" in a Chinese accent every time the bullet passes by the muzzle break.
Not one failure to fire, not one failure to extract, not one failure to eject. Seems like anyone who has issues with these rifles are shooting the 223/5.56. I've not had one bit of reliability issues with the 7.62X39 model.
I use blackhawk iron sights so MOA depends on my eyes at 100 Yards, but its within the ring most of the time at 100yrds. Good enough for a coyote kill.

Thanks, good to know the 7.62x39 ones run good. I think you are right and the 5.56 is the issue. Newest models are in 223 Wylde now.

I know that everyone is just absolutely hating this rifle in the comments. But I have to say as a Bison owner. Black Creek Labs is always improving even their current production rifles. They even have a new kit that includes a new firing pin, end cap and spring to ensure that the firearm can use military 5.56. All for free sent directly to customers. I call that good service and integrity. Buy with confidence I say.

Just ran mine today for the first time in a 3gun match today. Ran great for the most part. Minus not sighting in befor the match so I can not say anything on the accuracy. Secound issue was my fault in running it to hard and I punched my self in the head and third issue it tryed to eject and came out of the barrel but did not flick off the bolt wish I got it on video

I purchased one a few weeks ago, and it has a very new serial number. It has the 1:8 barrel installed, and has not had a single light strike, using multiple types of 556 and 223 including bulk. Really flings brass as well. I assume they pre fixed their issues before sending them out now. It is my favourite rifle to shoot

I am still having a terrible issue with BCL Bison of early production - every ammo I shot was overpressurizing the cases, making them stick in the chamber. Slugged the barrel - it is conical inside with bore restriction on one end. Will see if BCL will be willing to replace the barrel.

Got this rifle for Christmas, put a 3x optic on it and went to the range Boxing Day. First outing I had multiple light strikes, took it home and found a spacer that they provided if this did happen to go inside the bolt and increase spring tension on the firing pin. Second outing was better but still wasn’t overly happy with the groups using mostly 55 gr with a 3 power scope. Put a 3-9x40 scope on and headed to the range with 7 types of ammo. Had 3 ammo’s group at less than an inch at 100 yds, and the rest were 3” and under @ 100yds. I am very happy with these results, put my 3x power scope back on and am shooting under 1.5 moa with 4 types of ammo. Seems to like 40gr 75gr and 77gr bullets the best and 62gr as a fourth choice. Haven’t had much luck with 55gr but I will keep trying to find one it likes because they are a lot cheaper to shoot. Overall a very accurate gun for a 12.5” barrel. Also mine has markings on the barrel, does not show twist rate though.

The new bolt with double ejector works great.
New firing pin improves reliability with 5.56 hard primers.
Accuracy does seem to be finicky on ammo type. Best I've got so far was 0.7 with 75 grain and 0.5 Sako factory fmj. Usually my groups are in that 1-3 moa range though so I'm still exploring that. 4x scope and bipod so maybe it's me. I can't complain about the sub moa though of course.
Their customer service and warranty is stellar, so if you have a problem with your rifle just reach out to them. I'll definitely pick up a TRX Bronco eventually because I've had such a good experience with the customer service.

Hey there, I own a bcl mrx bison in the 16" version. My barrel is marked with 5.56 in a 1:7 twist.
The company offers a upgraded bolt, firing pin and sear for free if you contact their customer service department. This has increased reliability for me a lot with m855.
The ejection of the cartridge also works great in my rifle, so that must be a defect you could get sent in and fixed.
Reason why I bought it is exactly like you said. I thought they were going to ban semi autos.

Some nice features for the price but it just doesn’t seem like the accuracy is there. If upping the price by $100 or so would allow them to source better quality barrels it would be a lot more appealing imo.

@@tazzharm alright. I put (12) 7.62x39 in the mag and I can't get them to hand feed well at all so I don't think it'll work. They nosedive, all the pressure is at the base of the round, i think it needs a different follower or curve to the mag.

Why in the name of all that is holy, would they use dual ejectors? Ruger made a rifle with 1 that works just fine, why is BCL dicking around with non-standard ejectors, AGAIN?? It took them months to fix my bcl 102 because they went off-script and made some snowflake ejector design instead of using a standard ar10 ejector off the shelf.

I almost bought 1, but after watching a bunch of reviews the accuracy just isn't there plus the soft strikes and some ejector failure I just couldn't do it. So, I opted for a Troy par. It's flawless so far and I can get 1/2" groups no problem @100 yards with anything from 60gr up to 75. I would buy a semi but with this POS government we have, I can't buy something that might be banned, who knows it all might get banned eventually if the current trend continues ffs.
