Uncle's Famous STRAW BAKED THAI CHICKEN 🤯🇹🇭 Thai Country Food in Nakhon Pathom

- Today I'm doing what I'm always preaching by getting out of my comfort zone and heading 45 minutes outside of Bangkok, to the Thai countryside of Nakhon Pathom, to get some seriously unique Thai roast chicken.
I headed to the famous Uncle Peen, in the Nakhon Chi Si District to try some gai ob fang - straw baked chicken and it was absolutely incredible!
A big thank you to @dannbangkok for organising the trip, he's got a great channel so please subscribe here: / @dannbangkok
Also I'd have never finished the feast without the amazing @danny_and_diggy who I always call Diggy and Danny 😅 get over and follow them now 🙏
The chicken at Uncle Peen is so different to the standard Gai Yang that we all know and love, it's more reminiscent of a juicy rotisserie chicken .
I highly recommend getting out of Bangkok and trying it for yourselves.
Directions and opening times:

The whole chicken was 200 THB

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this RUclips channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Great day with great people!
This chicken was something else 😍 hopefully we can have it one more time before leaving Bangkok 😉
Great food, great company, what more can you ask for?!
We will go back one more time.

Thank you Jo 😁

Amazing how they are working to get the perfect chicken 🐔 👌
Hi Gary! I saw this place a few years ago when Mark Weins came to visit. I was amazed by the creative and unique way the chickens were roasted with straw! You're right about the chicken being cooked rotisserie-style. Rotisserie chicken is the best because the chicken is so moist!
OMG Gary, the look on Fins face as he ate his chicken was PRICELESS!!!!
This is exotic way of cooking 😂 love it. The one-of-a kind food reminds me when I was young, my family and I had the dinner right at the paddy field after harvesting rice. It was an unforgettable moment.
Such precious memories.❤
Oh, what a gorgeous place in the green, and Uncle Peen does a most outstanding chicken cooking ! super friendly people ! Your little son is perhaps the next level generation of your food channel, his comment and expression "so delicious" is lovely cute and priceless🥰Ty! !big like!
Superb video mate. Omg that chicken looked the best. Delicious 😂nice one Finley love it.
Unreal mate, you'd love it!
ชอบวิดีโอ นี้มาก ขนาดคนไทย เห็นแล้วยังหิวเลย อาหารไทยอร่อย ๆ ยังมีให้ชาวต่างชาติมาชิมอีกเยอะ good video I like it very much.
You can't beat a perfectly cooked chicken. Great to see everyone appreciate it too, especially your lovely boy. Great video Gary 😊
Wow that is fast. I'm waiting for it
You’re the star!
Welcome to Nakhonpathom.🙏🙏☺️☺️.Fc from.Nakhonpathom
The straw-baked chicken looks so delicious. Thanks for the video. Great presentation.🎶💯
First time I saw this place was from Mark Wien's channel a couple of years back. As I did then, and now too, I'm still salivating admiring the nicely prepared chicken.
It's so good mate honestly
It's hard to find chicken grill like this in Thailand now . When i was young it easier . If anyone found it must try !!!
Super rare for me to see!
Yeah coz normally the cooking process this menu it hard to do it in normal restaurants.
Great video guys!!! And juicy 😄!
Love the little man giving the best ratings 55555
That chicken looks good. Nice to see the production value of your videos has increased noticeably too.
I appreciate that, glad someone has notices haha
wow, that looks so tasty! and your sons face, he's going to be a food connoisseur one day! 😃
Haha he's stealing the show again
When I lived in the northeastern province many years ago, I used to eat straw-baked chicken. In Bangkok, it's difficult to find a place that sells straw-baked chicken.
It cannot be prepared in an enclosed area, such as a restaurant kitchen, and requires more open space. There is a greater chance of a large fire starting if the cook is not paying attention.
Omg...i m salivating as i watch, good video. Tks
😁😁😁
Wow 😮
Welcome to Thailand ❤
Great setting and an interesting way to cook chicken mate. The chicken looked amazing and tasty 😋
It was unreal mate!
Can't wait !!!!
See you there guys!
Ha ha ha wow so hungry 😋🍗🎉
If I was not hungry. I would be after watching one of your videos.
Great to see Dan.
Press that smell button. 😁
i like your video Thank you for traveling in Thailand and I will follow your RUclips channel.
OMG, @ 13:10 is that the face of contentment or sleepiness? Mark Wiens has better look out, he's got a new competition in Finley. 😁 Either way, Finley is soooooooo adorable, huggable, and squeezeable!!!🥰😇. More of Finely, please.
Haha, he’s much better than Mark 😅 he’s definitely better than dad anyway!

That chicken looks unreal! But the experience is equally as cool! Definitely on our places to visit cheers 👍👌
So good mate
Basically, the hay and tin method is like cooking in an oven which was hard to find in Thailand back then since it wasn't a common way of cooking.
Thank you for present sir.
😃
Sounds like a right treat!!!
Proper mate
Only heard a bout this place very recently (for life of me cannot remember where or from who) so pleased you did a video top see more about it. One for the 'maybe' list in March if we decide to head out of BK for the day. Will be back in BK for 4 nights/3 days after 2 weeks in the southern beaches but only one stomach so need to plan carefully!!
Hey, Nice to miss you again. very tasty chicken
lovely to see you taking your family with you, I remember as a child my father used to take our family out to eat with the locals in whichever country we lived in at that time, those moments stuck with me til today. I remember a whole pig and cow body being slowly BBQ'd next to an open fire in Argentina, eating freshly slaughtered lamb and rabbit paella in Spain or just going to a USA backyard Smoke- and BBQ-Fest - showed me how good people everywhere are. Food is art and art is the non-verbal language everyone comprehends: it unites us all.
Looks spectacular! I'm a big fan of roast chicken. Have you ever seen a spatch-cocked suckling pig grilled over an open fire? I think I remember having at the bars awhile ago when it was someone's birthday. It's probably not Thai, but I haven't been able to find anything like that. It has amazing crackling, which one dunked in a really spicy sauce. i think the meat was really succulent, too. If you know where that could be had again, I would love it if you would share. It may not be a dish native to Thailand, but I definitely had it in Bangkok.
This chicken is a whole universe away from rotisserie chicken from Costco. (Lol). Uncle Peen's area is so much like where I stayed in Samut Prakarn back in the day, about a half hour from Central Bangkok by the local bus. Sabai dii, Gary.
Welcome to Thailand
Thank you!
Roasted chicken, very tasty Have a nice meal from Nakhon Phanom
Finley is so adorable and a happy boy 😘
Wasn't hungry before I watched this video but now I'm starving!
Welcome to Thailand🥰🥰👍👍✌✌🇹🇭

"Kai Op Fang"
"Kai" = Chicken
"Op" = Baked in a closed space
"Fang" = straw
"Kai Op Fang" = Bake/Grill/Roast the chicken in a closed environment using rice straw as fuel.
♥️🇹🇭♥️🇹🇭
Looks amazing!
So good
can't believe they are still have this menu selling. the last time was so long ago. it once sold every where outside bangkok.
I was so lucky to find it!
Great VDO , can you imagine if the chicken was a “Kai Bahn” it would have even more delicious! Hard to get and more expensive than the “Cornish Broiler” for sure
For sure!
Great vid bro think I made the same noise on my first bite. Awesome to see uncle back! When there in June they were unsure about reopening. Shame about the tum and larb Zap illy!!!
Yeah hopefully they get it back on the menu!
Nakhon Pathom is my hometown. I love it so much. It's quiet and not far from Bangkok.
The most underrated province!

(Kai Ob Fang) ....I'm not sure for english name >>> probably ..... Roasted Chicken with Strew (I don't know ^____^)
One of a classic thai menu .... countries side style. .....and not easy to find it in BKK.
That's it! It was Soo good
Ur kids super lovely ❤️🤟❤️
god!!! baked thai chicken is my favorite food ever
It's so good!
Best way to cook a chicken!! I need to go there today.
Deep fried chicken neck is one of the best thing in the world! The skin is so crispy and delicious! People need to eat more chicken skin.
More than 50 years ago there was a restaurant on Petchburi Rd. near Ekamai selling this "kai opp farng" (straw baked chicken), and years before that my father used to bring home this chicken when he came from up country but the chicken was not very tender like present.
That is amazing!
Welcome to thailand🥰

Looks great, but I've been eating chicken all my life & like it a lot, but am more interested in new things like duck. Haven't had much of it & I love it. Also things like quail & quail eggs & the myriad variety of things not prevelent in the west. It does, indeed, look excellent though! Good videos, buddy.👍🇨🇷
Chicken of Uncle pin is the best. Yummy 🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭✌️
