I am Native American, we have the deer woman, I would suggest her, as she is both a killer and protector and I think you would find her very interesting
I thought the music and visuals were a fine complement to help immerse me in the myth and spur my own imagination of it. Well told, and well executed! I found it thought provoking.
Excellent....someone finally for it right. I cherish our family's Bean-Sidhe.....she always makes me feel better when there's a death in the family. I think simply because she reminds me that death is not an ending. I've heard her cry out in the night (like an owl that stretches impossibly into someone's name), sometimes its a singing/ crying and sometimes she comes as an owl to the house making noises to get my attention. And I always feel better.
You make a great point about how there has been a cultural shift in the view of death, in part because of the emphasis on self-interest. I think another factor has to do with the decrease in infant mortality and the increase of life expectancy that has resulted from the various processes of modernization, such as improved health, medicine, and eradication of certain diseases. That is to say, there are a variety of factors that have contributed to this shift of how death is perceived. But I wholeheartedly agree with you about how it is both a universal and natural phenomenon. Modern societies need to be able to embrace this perspective again in order to maintain a healthy perspective concerning life. All that to say, thank you. I stumbled upon your videos recently and have been thoroughly enjoying them; the information, the imagery, as well as the various voices that add to the narratives surrounding each creature. Keep up the excellent work!
These are absolutely quality videos. The narration is fantastic and I love that there’s another person that tells the “first person” account as it makes it seem like they’re actually telling it to the listener.
Thank you so much - this is exactly what I was aiming for! Updates will be once a month to begin with as I want to focus on quality but if you like these then they should be right up your street!
I have only heard about the modern interpretation of the banshee. Now that I have heard your older description, I like it better. I would love to hear about kelpies and silkies.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have plans for videos on both Kelpies and Selkies, the Selkie script is very nearly finished so I'll be making that video next!
I have plans for a Kelpie video, but it's very early stages yet - on the list though! Kelpies are an interesting one as they're often conflated with the Each Uisge, another, far more aggressive water horse spirit, so it'll be nice to do a deep dive on both
I never had the impression that the Bansidhe was evil or even bad. She was giving a fair warning. As in MacCrimmon's Lament "The Bansidhe croons a note of wailing"
The beansidhe is a spirit of the family, much like the Roman genus of the family. She’s not causing death, she’s mourning the loss of a beloved family member.
I'm late to the party and will probably watch the video tomorrow evening -- it'll be Halloween, after all! But in the meantime, I just wanted to drop in a quick non sequitur. A Banshee is a Korean War era fighter built by McDonnell Aircraft for the US Navy. I hope to get to the US Navy's Naval Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola and see a F2H in the not-too-distant future!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! I had a couple of teachers like that too haha. More on the way, but only one vid a month to begin with so I can focus on quality. Thanks for your early support!
One night walking through a park about 7pm I looked across the road about ten feet away I saw a small woman dressed all in black. She was about 4ft in height but I couldn't see her feet and she has a bonnet and veil on. I looked at her for about 3 to 6 seconds then lookedat where I was walking then a second later looked back and it was gone. I thought nothing of it and went on my way. Later on about 3am in the morning I heard my next do neighbour shouting out for his son , my neighbour liked to drink so I thought he was just drunk again and went back to sleep. The next morning I saw an ambulance outside my neighbours house and his son and went outside to see what had happened. His son told me his dad had died during the night. I believe I saw a banshee that evening to let me know someone I knew was going to die. It's an old Irish folk lore that Mc's and O in the surname will see banshees. Is it true I don't know but what I saw that night is.
@@BeastsoftheOldeWorld Then I need to figure out the criteria for duplicating it. It's engaging as those strong, artistic strokes added to your story telling.
you forgot the link with the owl. The sound of the banshee is the sound of the owl ( the little owl to be precise) and the owl is associated with death from the time of the greeks
I clicked on this one because l had know a few humans that l described as banshees The 2nd reason Once l was driving down a long road at night that no one else was on l was the only car on the long road and l didn't have Ac at time l left my windows down and heard while driving the most gut wrenchingout of this worldSupernatural Scream Scared the crap out of me

So in County louth in mid November there was a knock on my grandmothers back door around 11pm in 1962 I think so my granny answers the door and nobody was there this happens 3 times after the 3rd time she goes up to my grandfather to tell him and finds him dead in his bed she told this story to my mother and her grand children Who knows she always said the banshee took my husband and I'm happy she did
I love your videos. They're insanely well done in every respect, except for your microphone audio, which is honestly terrible and it is such a crying shame. I don't know very much about microphone recording, but I'd suggest maybe trying to turn your microphone sensitivity way down and instead adding gain to your microphone output. And if that doesn't work, checking that your microphone has a properly working connection to whatever you're capturing the audio with. But really, it sounds a lot like your microphone is permanently peaking, which my first suggestion should fix entirely with very little effort
Thanks! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the videos! I know the voiceover quality isn’t great, especially in these earlier episodes, but it’s something I’ve been working on. The most recent recordings are (hopefully) much better 🤞 so if you do catch the next episode on 18th Jan, I’d love to hear if you think it’s improved! Audio is so tricky: I always listen back on multiple devices before posting, and the levels often feel so wildly different on each one. Very frustrating! It’s all a learning curve though, and I’m sure I'll improve with time. Thanks again for your feedback - I appreciate it!
Anybody else notice the pattern of 6 fingered hands in the artwork? Speaks nothing of the quality of the great video, just something I saw. LOL, FWIW, not a Spaniard. I started to notice hands since I first saw a painting of a gunfighter with 2 right hands when I was young.
Which mythical creature features would YOU like to see? Let me know 👇👇👇

Gorgons or Nagas
As an Irishman, thank you for a well-presented, authentic piece on the Bhean Sí. 👏👏👏

I got my first impression of a Banshee from the movie Darby O'Gill and the little people. It was terrifying.
Great movie
Me too
I love that movie 😊

Thank you so much for this. The modern take on the Banshee really pisses me off. I spend more energy than I should trying to correct people.
South East Ireland i grew up believing you only heard her not to see her but would dream the impression/ image of her
great telling of her

Can you do a video on changelings? That would be amazing ❤

Any chance,Nick,of an exploration of the Scottish kelpie, river horse or horse eel? I just know it would be great to watch by a low light at bedtime!

Very interesting to see how this myth changed.
The Morrigan also is a washer at the ford, washing the clothes of those about to die. That is only one of her roles/guises though.

But what if you make a banshee moan?
14:35 one comment: death is not natural. Is just inevitable
the very nature of something that's inevitable makes it natural
