Amazing 💙 when I was 13 I got bullied for liking dolls so much that I stopped collecting and threw them in a box and left them all alone in the dark under a staircase.
7 years later, 2020, I realized I'm an adult and I can do what I want and that I was never too old for dolls and I shouldn't have let those bullies make me selfharm and give up my passion and love for dolls.
It's been 2 years now since I got back into this world and I love it, and I love every single doll and there's at least 250 of them now! Used to be 30 ten years ago 💙

For the price we spend on this doll, her face should at LEAST be spray painted. But mattel management is like: "no, they don't need it! They're getting fabric boots for only 100$! Make the face a cheap sticker instead!"

    • @iamsoverybored878
      @iamsoverybored878 Год назад +10

But people still buy these despite the inflated prices and quality. For example that Tina Turner doll is sold out she has the same quality of those dolls of the world from the 90s and those were $20 she's $55. Mattel will only change if people stop buying Barbies. They seem to only bring the quality now for Monster High.

The only doll faces that are still individually painted are high end limited edition BJD like Volks, which often cost over $1000 USD. There is no $100 doll that is individually hand painted, they are screened on. The barbie prototypes are hand painted by artists at Mattel and take 3 hours to complete. You aren't going to get hand painted face ups at this price point.

I think she is my favourite of the Pink Collection. The Lina sculpt with the hair and dark skin in Silkstone is a fabulous. Some people have said the dress/boot combination would be better if the dress were shorter in the front, and I agree. Also, at $185 Canadian, plus shipping, I am definitely hesitating on buying her.

I liked your review, however, I have a problem with the position of the bent arm that doesn't touch the waist. The model muse pose should be hands on the hip and not extended for a handshake. For the price, the boots aren't worth the $$$ and a flawed body.

She looks pretty but I don't think she is worth the price, 152 🤯euros in Europe. The dress is nice. The boots are beautiful! But they don't go together. And the print on face does not stand out compared to other barbies. I prefer to collect previous barbies with the nostalgic Mattel quality 🧡

Love your channel and glad I discovered it. I am really, really disappointed with the level of quality with the new Silkstone collection (eg. your issue with the earring on PC1). I am pasting my (extensive) comment from the Barbie forum where I have been yapping and yapping. The new Guo Pei is a flop. Very few people are getting her, but that’s a topic in its own.
    10 hours ago, Breezy79 said:
I wouldn't pay $200 for that coat. Taking a good look at the close up pics I can see Mattel used that cheap stiff prone to fraying fabric for it. And you can't tell how stiff it is in the posed pics. It doesn't drape, fall, or move. And the lining fabric is so thin you can see thru it. Not a $200 doll and not a $200 coat by itself. Even with better accessories.
And this angel doll is lovely but for $100 it looks like we are getting a doll dressed in an outfit fashioned from glitter covered craft paper.
Gawd I miss BFMC. I've hardly bought Barbies since they retired that line. I just dont like playline looking dolls/facepaint. I really like the last pink silkie but didn't buy her because it looked like her eyes were stickers. I dont like how they have no depth to their eyes and flat painted lashes. Just flat flat emotionless faces. Can they at least root or applies eyelashes on these Uber collectible dolls? We use to get rooted lashes on some dolls. I think the last were the City lines. And those were black label $40 dolls. Jeesh even Monster High dolls have applied eyelashes so I know they can do it.
    Expand
Everything you said is so on point. Every word. I am getting the Pink Collection as it is the only Silkstone released and supposed to replace the BFMC. Pasting my comment from the PC4 news release that summarizes my issue.
The PC No 4 is shipping on November 2nd for me. I opted for the express shipping, so I hope she will be here next day.
I am not really, really thrilled with her, but I want to have the collection, and they are the only Silkstone that are going to be guaranteed, so I have no other option.
Each doll had something to be desired:
PC1: The dress slit is too short and there is no lining underneath the dress. For the type of Barbie she should have had the pink satin lining matching her bow. The bows on her shoes are plastic. The headpiece is just a regular pink rubber band. On a couture dress. Used the satin ribbon and made a bow until I find a more suitable replacement. Her curls were crushed because of the plastic frame and had to be fixed as best I could.
PC2: The shoes are really bad and came with bent heels. Try as I might, it cannot be corrected. She came with no accessories (faux fur stole, clutch) and was $125.00. Her her had to be worked on and her curls were crushed due to plastic mold sewn into her head.
PC3: Plastic bows on shoes and no accessories (gloves, bracelet, clutch).
PC4: Still waiting to arrive so uncertain of how everything will look, but the dress looks like really good quality, as was the case with PC2.
I love the collection. I love Robert’s design and vision and he is NEVER off. What is a shame is that they are not really trying to honor and implement his actual vision as a designer. At least that is the perception. It might be different…
I want to have the collection, because they are all Silkstone which is number 1 in my book, and have amazing dress designs. I just think that cutting corners on really important details is what is causing this collection not to sell as well, or be as popular as the BFMC which it was set to replace.
I love the boxes but I have no space to display them. That is, if I want them on my glass bookshelf in my dining room. But I do think the boxes are amazing. What I do not like is the way all of them are packaged inside. They come with the plastic hair piece like the playline dolls and their hair gets damaged by default. Would have been happy with a satin ribbon. The plastic makes it very tricky and easy to damage her hair or her clothes.
However, the hair comes damaged already as it gets molded into the plastic framing case it is in. It took me hours to make the hair of PC3 resemble anything decent. That was the case with all of them so far, but PC3 required most work. See pics. I just don’t think I should be dealing with that for $100 or $125.00. I have my extras for that.
What I also noticed is that the dolls IRL do not look like the design/sketch on the back of the box. It was minor changes at first. The PC1 has pink rhinestone earrings vs. clear. PC2 All of these are honestly a non issue, and Mattel has a note that dolls might not come with the same accessories and hairstyle etc. And those small adjustments are really not bothersome.
This is not the case with PC4. That just seems like blatant example of cutting corners as there are minimal similarities between the sketch and the doll IRL. The most evident thing and the biggest pain: the boots. The design (back of the box) has boots that are either sequins or rhinestones done in an hombre pattern.
Further, As she has a belt buckle that is encrusted with the same. Her earrings have three rows of rhinestones. Her dress is much shorter and similar to length of PC1. The PC4 doll IRL is completely different. Her boots are embroidered with a pattern that would look better on a Día de Muertos Barbie. They are knee length vs. thigh high as in sketch. The belt buckle not encrusted. The earrings and the hair are different as well. It does not represent the same vision portrayed on the back.
Once I get her, I will get some thigh high boots and encrust them with rhinestones. I had to do the same with the 2021 holiday Barbie. She came with a plastic mold of a corsets. And where rhinestones were set to be, there were just plastic indentations in diamond shapes. I got rhinestones off of Amazon and re-did it.
Also, someone mentioned how they don’t mind Signature dolls being vinyl, but again that is a quality and prestige issue to me. Vinyl bends. Silkstone does not. And if take care of properly, will not break.
Example: My boyfriend’s Crystal amethyst body (vinyl) came with a bent leg that cannot be straightened or fixed in any way. It’s visibly bent and went through QC. If she was a Silkstone, this would have not been an issue. Not to mention that her belt is gift wrap vs. actual quality fabric. The Lunar New Year Guo Pei Barbie has a tall playline body and looks like she’s about to be frisked. It was a $80.00 outfit on a playline doll.

You clearly don't speak for the average adult fashion doll collector when you say they could go cheaper on the boxes. Many of us don't debox, or buy 1 doll separately for deboxing (which is why Mattel allows up to 2 preorders for the signature lines). Having a nice display box is one of the cornerstones of a high end Barbie. I have to say it's bizarre you are in so love with this doll when you complained that #1 was too expensive when she was $25 cheaper and was dressed in miles of tulle.
