Hugo Martin in a dev stream like four years ago said he wanted the next doom game to take place during the Unholy Crusade, and that he wanted it to feel like you're playing a monster truck instead of an F1 fighter jet.
I like a lot of others hoped for something different (like Quake) but I get it, DOOM IP is valuable and recognizable and I like that they're at least trying something new with it. Looks good to me so far!
So this is back when the Maykrs (angels) in Doom were still technically the good guys. He's on an alien/alternate fantasy planet that got invaded by demons and whose empire stretched across the stars thanks to their patrons the angels. Doomguy showed up and accidentally brought the demons with him.
One thing that I noticed, is that the demon on 1:54 it a Doom Hunter before they went extinct and were transformed into their mechanized counterparts in doom eternal
I'm really interested in the new direction for this game. A slower and more brutal game could be interesting if they do it right. Like Doomguy on a strength build instead of decterity. That said it certainly is a choice to wait five years and release a spinoff game that gets even more experimental than Eternal did
It's tough to tell from a trailer but the gameplay here looks a little more widely agreeable than Eternal at a first glance. I think it's 'experimental' in that it's a new setting and vibe for Doom, but the gameplay looks just a bit more "something for everyone" than Eternal so far. But we shall see!
While rewatching this, I paid closer attention to the gun that crushes skulls and turns the pieces into bullets… Lmao! Dude, that’s arguably the MOST Metal thing I’ve EVER seen or heard of 🤯😍🤩
For sure, I didn't actually see who is doing the OST but Andrew Hulshult would be a nice consolation if its him. I just hope id has learned their lesson from what went down with Eternal... It's all you can really hope for.
What people don’t realize is this is ID softwares way of testing the waters for a Quake remake, by changing up the formula and aesthetic to be more Quake-esq Microsoft will see whether or not a Quake remake will be worth the investment
I'm surprised people have this read on the game, don't get me wrong I'd absolutely love to see more singleplayer Quake, but I feel like this already absolutely could've been a Quake title if Microsoft had any faith in Quake as an IP. To me this reeks of "id wanted to make a Quake game but Microsoft said no it's gotta be DOOM", which doesn't give me much faith of Quake returning as a singleplayer franchise *ever.* I'd love to be wrong, but that's how I'm interpreting this.
Really hope the general gameplay is closer to 2016 than Eternal. Eternal packed _so much_ into its combat and after a while it kinda just became too much to keep track of. While I appreciate being given the option to do cool shit during gameplay, I _don't_ enjoy practically being held at gunpoint and *_forced_* to do it. And 2016 and Eternal are definitely on opposite ends of that spectrum.
Agreed, I do like Eternal generally despite some gripes but *another* Doom Eternal woulda been too much. From limited info this so far looks like an interesting step sideways from the other two games, I see what looks like some seriously fun and powerful weapons and I also see what looks like some stuff to satisfy the people looking for a high skill ceiling, we'll see how it plays out in reality I guess!
This game is supposed to be basically grounded. As i you dont sling around the arena like a jet fighter but rather walk around it and tank stuff like a abrams tank. Its still going to be complex, but in a new context.

Very interesting. I would never have guessed the series would go in this direction, but you won't see me complaining.

I’m gonna be honest that skull grinding machine gun is by far the coolest gun I’ve ever seen
Its gonna be the only weapon I abuse in this whole game, asuch as the plasma rifle😁 Imma buss with the skull grinder💦

They didn't need to go so hard with this.

@@DumpsterManVODsYeah, the current soundtrack screams of Hulshult.

I'm so excited for that dragon segment.
This gives me Painkiller vibes.
It's doom maternal prelude
Doom with DRAGON!!!
