Not only do you analyse every generation the Pokemon appeared in, you also analyse what it's like in the metagame of that game TODAY, as WELL as having extensive knowledge about tiers and builds many competitive players would just dismiss as gimmicks. I am honestly blow away by these videos and I'm proud to be a subscriber (even if I do watch the videos on 1.5x speed)
TheExplorerOfTime his videos are good in quality wise and they're entertaining too and even if you aren't good in competitive battles its fun to watch the videos of your favorite pokemon history in battles
I actually used a Flygon on my VCG’15 team on Showdown. It was used as a Tailwind setter, with Earthquake, U-Turn, and Steel Wing for fairies, plus a Focus Sash to ensure it survived at least one hit
I never see screech flygon at all. Right now its either mixed life orb (my favorite) or choice. The rare toxic roost is used on defensive teams but is very niche.
Flygon has had sone weird sets. They completely missed a variation of the ADV Choice Band set that has picked up popularity. Earthquake, Rock Slide, Hidden Power Bug, and GUST... It needs HP Bug to hit Celebi and Claydol. Claydol specifically takes nothing from HP Flying, Earthquake, and Rock Slide. HP Ghost is tempting for Gengar, but the coverage against the others is two important. And Gengar takes a lot from banded Rock Slide as it is. It needed coverage for fighting types that resisted Earthquake like Heracross and Breloom, both of which resist EQ, Rock Slide, and HP Bug. So it now runs Gust.
superior to plusle and minun, i mean, one of the worst mon of all time, thanks to its meager stats. and a horrendous movepool, it sucks sucks sucks really
I am grateful that Flygon was in the game. It may be not be my favorite dragon type but it was a huge help when I was trying to catch Groudon in ORAS. That immunity to Precipice Blades and Earthquake and resistance to Lava Plume was so helpful along with Flygon not strong enough to to kill Groudon in one hit
Ironically, this came into play with Flygon making rare appearances in Ubers simply to perform the role of a Defogger that could reliably beat Primal Groudon (in Gen 6, that is).

Or a mega with +50 in both attack and speed would be absolutely amazing for it, making it have: HP: 80 Attack: 150 Defense: 80 Special Attack: 80 Special Defense: 80 Speed:150 OR! You could do the same thing they did with Beedrill and decrease some of its less useful stats and make it look something like this HP: 80 Attack: 170 Defense: 100 Special Attack: 40 Special Defense: 80 Speed: 150 170 attack easily gives it one of the strongest Earthquakes in the game, and with 150 speed, its guaranteed to out speed any Pokemon that can check or counter it with little to no speed investment, and base 100 defense just because that's a good place to put the extra 20 stat points without making it absolutely broken in terms of attack. Just the concept of the second stat spread is horrifying to imagine and would make it overused without a doubt. As for the ability, I'd say Sand Stream or something, as it references one of its Pokedex entries to be able to summon sandstorms.
If Flygon _really_ wants to get out of Garchomp's shadow, it should have a Mega that focuses on Special Attack. This is how Pidgeot managed to distinguish itself from every other Normal/Flying Pokémon.
I say buff it's Special Attack to base 100 (And maybe buff it's Speed to 105 -110) and give it Tinted Lens as a HA. I've always wanted to 2HKO Sp. Def Heatran with Specs Draco Meteor.
Here's an Idea : Buff Flygon Sp. Attack and Speed to 100 and 110 respectively, and then give it Tinted Lens as a Hidden Ability. The Speed buff is because just about everything has Base 100 speed these days. The Special Attack buff is because a good chunk of it's coverage options are special moves. And then I gave it Tinted Lens because we don't a Physical Attacker with Tinted Lens. (You don't count Mothim, with yo ass speed tier) Also, just look at it. It also makes Flygon pretty unpredicatble, since one of it's abilities grants it an immunity to EQ, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes. And the other allows it to spam it's STABs near unopposed. Neither are something you want to allow to come in scott free.
You cant boost flygon’s speed to 110 because it was DESIGNED to be inferior to salamence. Like it or not but its the truth. Flygon is designed even back in generation 3 as a temporary slot before getting the stronger harder dragon to catch salamence just like with the case of haxorus and hydreigon. If flygon were to receive a buff, the best way is to increase sp attack to 110 or increase the attack stat to 110 or probably 120 for stronger effect, but definitely not the speed.
Actually keep the speed at 100 amd give it Quiver Dance. Imagine a Pokemon with both Dragon Dance AND Quiver Dance, would be very hard to deal with since the two would have very different countrrs
This is honestly your best video yet, an absolutely terrific dissection of a period in the meta easily lost to time of one of its most nuanced Pokemon The gen 4 bit caught me off guard too, I stopped playing a bit before Garchomp got banned so I was totally unaware of its performance in the post-MenceChomp metagame!
Yes, but it has frail defences. Blissy can catch it off guard with Ice Beam, but Revenge Dug can work as well as being a great Electric type answer. I think that Dug is too specified to qualify for a competitive commentary which is why FSG is probably going to gloss over it. If a commentary happens, then I would be pleased, but don't be surprised if it does not happen.
Just subscribed to this chanel, really good content! I’ve seen Persian pop up a few times in your videos so would like to see a video for how good Persian was. Another is Magmar as he was Pokemon Blue’s “major” Pokemon but was never 100% sure how good he actually was. Thanks and keep the content up!
chomp Milotic isn't a copy of gyarados. The only thing it shares with milotic is its stat total and how they are split up. But this can also be said for Kingdra so do you really want to say that Kingdra or Milotic copies Gyarados?
Flygon is one of those Pokémon that shows how relatively insignificant base stats are when you have everything else going for you. It means you have to strategize and be aware of things it beats and things it loses to, and emphasizes the utility of scouting. Because of it’s typing, ability, and movepool, it can not only beat Pokémon weak to it or weaker than it, but can often capitalize off of the dents put into the opposing team (and the aforementioned scouting) to predeterministically set up dragon dance or choice sweeps.
Imagine how much of a threat Flygon would have been if it got a Mega with the ability Tinted Lens, or if it had Tinted Lens as a hidden ability. I mean, Tinted Lens makes so much sense because is literally is wearing goggles.
I keep coming back to this video to see the "what if Flygon got x" comments, ie a buff in a mega or whatever. Here's to hoping our boy gets either that or an armored form in gen 8 for sword and shield, if the rumors turn out to be true. I'll check back here again in the month of the games release.

Ensign Shepard uhh, what?
Morgan Complex really? dugtrio?
a meta defining 'mon on the advanced metagame and bw? and nowadays a very nice magearna and necrozma counter?
dugtrio is like the ultimate trapper
although alolan dugtrio sucks ass
he lost arena trap for what? steel typing and speed down for pokemons who attack it?
alolan dugtrio is really bad
cheesy core necrozma counter? How?

Not good, and boring
But its mega became super hyper defensive wall mon
Kanibelazy 05 but its special defense still bad, i had a max health max special defense mega aggron, it died to one thunderbolt from a vikavolt
This is why flygon should have been a psuedo legendary, and why he should get a mega
yeah, but flygon was introduced in gen 3, and there were already 2 pseudo legendaries, as much as I love Flygon, I think 3 pseudo legendaries in 1 gen only is a bit too much.
@@_pumpiii well then just make Salamence a Trade evo, or nerf it's stats.
@@Xman34washere thats dumb. Salamence is awesome for its stats nerfing it would kill him

This is genuinely one of my favorite videos of all time, it gives so much light to my soul to revive that time in earlier generations where Flygon was the people's champ. It's incredible how much love and affection I can have to something intangible like a Pokemon, and of course the experience is so much more enjoyable with the best Poketuber of all. Thank you for your content and keep it coming! It honestly feels like a treasure!

Can I say? I super appreciate all the effort you put into these videos.
I can never watch videos with normal speed... Is it bad?
Flygon just really needed to get a mega. Without that boost it'll always just be a worse Garchomp.
I always thought about boosting its speed and attack both by 10.

I actually used a Flygon on my VCG’15 team on Showdown. It was used as a Tailwind setter, with Earthquake, U-Turn, and Steel Wing for fairies, plus a Focus Sash to ensure it survived at least one hit
So...you’re telling me... that in GEN 4, one of the gens with many heavy hitters...one of the most popular Flygon sets was to use SCREECH?!!
I never see screech flygon at all. Right now its either mixed life orb (my favorite) or choice. The rare toxic roost is used on defensive teams but is very niche.
*IT HAD FRICKIN DRAGON CLAW, ERGO, SOMETHING THAT IS GOOD AGAINST GARCHOMP, AND Y'ALL WANNA USE SCREECH?*
@@Xman34washere screech can help a lot thay defence drop can help against heavy phiscly bulky hitters

Flygon needs a buff :(
Hp:80
Atk:110
Def:80
SpAtk:80
SpDef:80
Spd:110
Total stat: 540 not to much but enough
I think just add 20 on either Atk or Speed would be really helpful
Or a mega with +50 in both attack and speed would be absolutely amazing for it, making it have:
HP: 80
Attack: 150
Defense: 80
Special Attack: 80
Special Defense: 80
Speed:150
OR!
You could do the same thing they did with Beedrill and decrease some of its less useful stats and make it look something like this
HP: 80
Attack: 170
Defense: 100
Special Attack: 40
Special Defense: 80
Speed: 150
170 attack easily gives it one of the strongest Earthquakes in the game, and with 150 speed, its guaranteed to out speed any Pokemon that can check or counter it with little to no speed investment, and base 100 defense just because that's a good place to put the extra 20 stat points without making it absolutely broken in terms of attack.
My version:
HP: 100
Atk: 100
Def: 80
SpAtk: 80
SpDef: 80
Spd: 110
550, but survives more hits!!
I say buff it's Special Attack to base 100 (And maybe buff it's Speed to 105 -110) and give it Tinted Lens as a HA. I've always wanted to 2HKO Sp. Def Heatran with Specs Draco Meteor.
I feel like I’m at trainer school.
Here's an Idea :
Buff Flygon Sp.
@@marksantiago9841 >:( just make flygon op
Actually keep the speed at 100 amd give it Quiver Dance. Imagine a Pokemon with both Dragon Dance AND Quiver Dance, would be very hard to deal with since the two would have very different countrrs
With SpA at 100, QD and tinted lens is enough to at least give him a niche in OU, trust me, is proved
This is honestly your best video yet, an absolutely terrific dissection of a period in the meta easily lost to time of one of its most nuanced Pokemon
The gen 4 bit caught me off guard too, I stopped playing a bit before Garchomp got banned so I was totally unaware of its performance in the post-MenceChomp metagame!
How good was dugtrio actually?
Dug is not really that great. It is a glass cannon that can handle Blissy and electric types, but a lot of things can come in and knock it out.
With arena trap, nothing can come in before it kills something.

My favourite examples are Breloom and Sableye
Flygon has good base stats
