I grew up watching late 70s and 80s NBA. Bird was my favorite player, Jordan was incredible but Wilt was by far the best athlete to ever lace em up in the NBA. And the strongest!
The there's difference between being a better athlete and being a better player. You can be more athletic than someone, but that doesn't mean you're better at the sport. Lots of players were more athletic than Larry Bird. But guess what, Larry Bird was better than a lot of those same players.
Shaq "The Greatest Center in NBA History" O'Neal had 34 20/20 games in his career. Wilt had 73- in one season. In fact, Wilt had 12 seasons with more than 34 20/20 games, and had over 600 such games during his career (and at least 75 more in playoff games). The completely forgotten Bob Pettit is the only other player with over 200 20/20 games. Bill Russell had 194, and Elgin ("Who?") Baylor also had over 150. Shaq had 722 double-doubles, a commendable 60% of all of his reguar season games. Wilt had over 900 (in 200 fewer games), well over 90% of all his games- and don;t forget, he basically stopped scoring his last two seasons. His first ten years, over 98% of his games were double doubles. His first eight years (788 games), the only games he didn't double double in were three games in which he either got sick or was ejected and one in which he didn't take a shot from the field. Only nine other players had over 100 total (not including playoffs) 20/20 games. Wilt had 126 30/30 games (175 including playoffs). He had more than twice as many 40/30 games than (72) Shaq had 20/20 games. Including playoff games, Wilt had as many 50/30 games as Shaq had 20/20 games. Of players that (most) readers will be familiar with, Karl Malone had 12 20/20 games, David Robinson 13 ,Kevin Love 17, Patrick Ewing 19 and Hakeem had an imprssive 42 (again, Wilt had seven season with more than that, but 42 is not bad). Wilt had eight 40/40 games and 130 games in which he scored 50 or more with at least 20 rebounds. He has over 500 games with at least 20 rbounds and 30 points. There is Wilt, and then there is no one even close.
😬💭I know. Larry was my 🐐 , but Wilt was just insane dominance for any era. I still don't think anyone played basketball like Larry but at a certain point sheer size, power and speed create too much of an Offensive and Defensive Juggernaut. That was Wilt.
Shaqs not greater than Artis Gilmore or Moses Malone or Bob lanier.gilmore was the second strongest player ever behind Wilt.earl Monroe said that Wilt would've pushed Shaq around like a ragdoll
Jabber only 🏆 won one nba basketball championship in the 1970s :: bill Walton & Portland trail brazer beat jabber 4/0 1977 : bill Walton gave jabber private lessons in 1977 playoffs
Wilt was the first athlete I ever met.I was probably around 6 or 7 years old at the time.He shook my hand and it was the greatest thing to have happened to at that young age.I was hoping to be as tall as him but only made it to 6’3”.i remember playing ball and trying to do that finger roll of his .He will always be the greatest to me regardless of who came after him.
C Howard Try Ralph Sampson! The Man had it all, but his body broke down. Ralph Sampson even dunked from FT line in dunk contest starting from the center line!
Marion Gamboa I actually played against Ralph Sampson once when he was 14 or 15 I think. Ralph was a good athlete. Wilt was a tremendous athlete with tremendous strength and stamina. Wilt high jumped 6'6" and broad jumped 22' and bench pressed 600 lbs. Ralph Sampson could not do that. in the 1961-62 season when Wilt averaged 50 and 25, he played 48.5 minutes per game for 80 games. Ralph Sampson could not do this nor can anyone else.
C Howard 600 pounds? Where do you get that? Also, don't forget when Wilt Chamberlain averaged 48.5 minutes per game, many 60s players were able to stay 42-43-44 minutes per night for a whole season on the court. So, comparing 60s to 80s is inaccurate.
C Howard Your reference is an obscure writer on an obscure forum? I mean c'mon! According to some ding dongs on various forums, Shaquille O'Neal was able to press 575 pounds. Shaquille O'Neal was to lazy to push that weight. Also, to be great on bench press, you need short arms and huge pecs, which Chamberlain's body lacked! Here's a picture of Pat Casey, the first man to push 600 pounds on the bench in 1967 : www.google.ca/search?q=doug+hepburn&client=ms-android-motorola&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjru53u8fvPAhXJ8YMKHWwyAqEQ_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=512#tbm=isch&q=pat+casey+weightlifter
Wilt played against more hall of fame centers in NBA history. There were many centers in his time almost as big, he was just so much stronger. Have you seen the video of Wilt doing situps holding a 100 lbs weight?
@@Flametree1492 Arnold Swartzenegger said Wilt was the strongest man he's ever seen and Phil Jackson was asked to compare Shaq and Wilt, he said Shaq could not do the things Wilt could. Wilt would be getting 40 and 20 in this soft league.
Wilt Chamberlain don't belong on Mt Rushmore of Basketball ....He's way to GREAT..He belongs on Mt Olympus...He's so damn mythical, unbelievable...Absolutely beyond reach man..RIP Wilt..
i told everybody before Wilt is all-time great i feel like jordan/lebron dont give that man his do anytime anyone ask they both should say Wilt Chamber cause neither break his records!!! bow down
Wilt Chamberlain was a superior athlete above & beyond every center in NBA history- ran faster, jumped higher, much stronger & more skillful. Wilt was & is THE GOAT point blank period.
Wilt was the best physically, but Russell was the best intellectually. He absolutely psyched out his opponents by knowing their moves (he studied film on all of his opponents to know their moves) and he'd talk to them like a kind father. One example was against the great 6-11 Walt Bellamy. He'd stick to Bellamy like glue and then ask him why his teammates weren't getting him the ball. Physically, Bill was way underrated. Both he and Wilt were high jumpers but Bill was a better one, being rated #3 in the US and #7 in the World. Both ran the 400 meters and Bill ran the hurdles and relays as did Wilt. Both could touch the top of the backboard. In Bill's final college game, the NCAA title game vs. Iowa, he had 27 pts, 26 rebounds, 20 blocked shots, 3 steals and an assist.
Yes, he does. And so too do Baylor, Barry, West, Havlicek, even Russell leading Boston to all those titles. When so many didn't see these stars play, they act like they either didn't exist or played against weak competition. Too bad.
+Mick A True man People just don't understand their supremacy and take away all their credits and recognition giving a very pathetic reason that they played against weak opposition. What a shame for NBA
Best athlete to ever play in the NBA. The BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME WAS BILL RUSSELL. 11 NBA titles, one Olympic title, 2 NCAA titles, and 2 high school state championships. Outjumped Wilt: 6' 91/2" to 6'6". Both ran the quarter mile in 49, Bill ran the high hurdles, Wilt threw the shot. Bill KNEW HOW TO WIN AND HOW TO MAKE HIS TEAMMATES BETTER.
@@gdm49 -Wilt was more than twice the scorer of Russell, and as good a rebounder , shot blocker, and passer, if not better. Why don't you tell us Bon Jovi is better than The Beatles?

Absolutely true, Wilt was the best player ever, nobody comes close and I loved his style of play. I was fortunate to see him play many times in the 60s and 70s
What makes him the greatest player for me was how he was able to change his game throughout his career yet still continue to rewrite the record book while keeping his teams as title contenders. Nobody in basketball history can ever testify to doing anything close to that. Wilt was a special guy like no other.
Actually it was Bill Russell who changed the game before Wilt. They expanded the lanes and banned dunks thanks to both Bill and Wilt. Russell's team won 11 NBA titles in 13 years, with 8 in a row. Wilt was awesome but Russell always outdid him. The name of the game is winning and nobody did it like Bill.
So did Wilt but he shot so often his teammates were often neglected. Russell included all of his teammates and often gave up shots to pass off. He was the ultimate team player and the best defender of all time.
Wilt could have retired after his rookie season and he'd still hold the record for the most Points Per Game and most Rebounds Per Game for a season... Nobody in NBA history (other than himself) has topped his numbers as a rookie.
In wilts rookie year he played against 1 center who averaged over 15points a game career, lovellette (keep in mind we are talking about the highest scoring era ever) Bill russell and lovellette were the only significant comp he had in 1960 He played 22/75 games against those 2 guys. 29% 😂 In 1960 the 1 playoff team they beat to get to the championship consisted of 1 player listed at 6'9. Red kerr... what a goat😂 www.basketball-reference.com/teams/PHW/1960/gamelog/ Red kerr is approximately the same size as detlef scrempf. (Schrempfs listed 5 lbs heavier, and an inch taller)
@@texastoast9629 I have a lot of respect for both Bill Russell and Wilt, but still I think Wilt was more dominant than Bill, but hey Bill was an amazing player also.
Wilt centre, kareem pf, pippen sf, jordan sg, magic pg. Best defensive team you can make, out rebounding any other team imaginable. 2 players with unblockable shots. Plenty of speed in Jordan, pippen and wilt. Magic 6-10 point one of the best playmakers and can play multiple positions. Would have bird as 6man to rotate with pippen especially for clutch plays but I would start pippen mostly because of defence abilities and fast break options with Jordan and Magic.. some teams may be able to match scoring output but against this teams defence and rebound numbers it would be very hard to keep up
Wilt was the greatest. No disrespect to any other NBA great, but there's no real disputing the greatness of Wilt Chamberlain. The man had an insane vertical, amazing strength and could adapt overtime to fit in as a rebounder, facilitator or number one scorer depending on what the team needed. The way that he could out-muscle guys in the paint or lead a break was amazing and I don't think there's a 7fter in the NBA who has ever been able to replicate his overall dominance on the court.
Wilt had 70-40 78 pts. 43 rebounds in a game Jordan had I believe 31 games in which he scored 50 or more points. Wilt did it 45 times in one season. I think he tallied 118 such games in his career. If Wilt had not changed his style of play he likely would have finished his career at 35 ppg or more. It took Kareem over 20 years to score as many as Wilt did in 14.
James Bridgewater Michael Jordan vs Wilt Chamberlain in playoffs. MJ 1-60+ point games in the playoffs Wilt 0-60+ point games in the playoffs. MJ 8-50+ point games in the playoffs WC 4-50+ point games in the playoffs. MJ 38-40+ point games in the playoffs WC 13-40+point games in the playoffs. MJ 109-30+ point games in the playoffs WC is not in the top 5. The number 5 is Jerry West with 74 30+ point games. MJ avg. 33.45 ppg in the playoffs and WC avg. 22.54 ppg in the playoffs. That’s almost a gap of 11 points!! Michael Jordan is the all time number 1 and Wilt Chamberlain only number 34. The conclusion is Wilt Chamberlain played against weak teams in the regular season, but when he faced better teams in the playoffs his scoring was disappointing! Wilt Chamberlain was a beast in regular season, but a choker in the playoffs. Michael Jordan was a beast in regular season and a monster in the playoffs and finals.
@@JamesHall_II Bill played Wilt differently each time. One game he would shut down everyone else and let Wilt score 50, the next he would play him tight. He had to because there never was an offensive player like Wilt. Alternatively, there was never a defender like Russell who was the great intimidator.
Leader in assist one season and 3rd in another!! That to me is the best most crazy stat. A 7 foot 1 center leads the NBA in assist, incredible. Averaging 28 rebounds a game is pretty wild.
Its not that impressive. Watch some video of how he did it. He used to stand flat footed on the wing and throw the ball over your head to cutters. He couldn't drive because if he dribbled, he would lose the ball. Nothing flashy about his assists. Magic Johnson and steve nash are actually skilled passers. Chamberlain was a stat padder.
What are you talking about?? How old are you. Wilt could run the floor like a deer. He was like a 7'1 guard sometime. You do understand his accomplishments? High jumper, shot put record. 2nd fasted 400 meters at Kansas, High jumped 6'7. Imagine an NBA player do that.
Why do young people irritate me so much? Is it just they are dumb or what? He led the NBA in assist one year!! Wilt gave up so much of his game for the team. You do realize this. 24 point and 20 rebounds in his first championship. He could have had 50, but played defense and rebounded more. 71 Lakers the same thing. Jerry West is on record saying how unselfish he was for letting West and Goodrich and Baylor do they're thing. Kobe is the most selfish platey ever. Passer!! What? Magic was the best.
Great video and summary. Wilt's impact on the game is Legendary, in all those aspects. The 1966-1967 76ers with Wilt also had the best winning season ever, 68-13, and, in 1971-1972, after their 33 win streak, the Lakers posted a new best win-loss season, 69-13, with Wilt as center, besting the old one set by the 76ers.
LOL. The Warriors. Choke city. LeBron had a team, LMAO. Wilt to Jordan. "When I played, they changed the rules to make it harder for me to score. They changed the rules to make it easier for you to score."
No discredit to Jordan and the Bulls, or even the W's, it's just that that 69-13 record lasted 24 years. And that new one set by the Bulls, 72-10 lasted another 20 years. That's lasting power.
No one comes close to Wilt as the GOAT! Jordan may have had a slightly higher career PPG , but Wilt was usually leading in 2-4 categories each year, with points, blocks (unofficial) , rebounds, FG%...etc. Wilt could do it all !
tell them people really don't give him his props wilt is still a once in a lifetime player the man ran a 4.4 40 yard dash, bench press more than 600 more then shaq look it up and his vertical was higher than MJ

Who are you sugar coating it for?? He wasn't one of the greatest rebounder if he was the greatest rebounder...Get it?? why diminish his accomplishments like that? Clearly the best player of all time. If blocks were tracked, would have averaged 6 or 7 blocks per game. I never realized how great a passer he was. Truly amazing player. GOAT. Shaquille O'Neal strength, Olajawan touch, David Robinson quickness, Mutumbo defense, all combined into one player.
no player changed his game over the course of his career like Wilt did..He went from unstoppable scorer early in his career, to incredible defensive stopper late in his career. He even became a distributor instead of scorer averaging 7.8 and 8.6 assists per game in back to back seasons.

I'll give you the link: www.nba.com/encyclopedia/wilts_records.html Here is the opening paragraph from that link... " With 72 records (68 of which he holds by himself), Wilt Chamberlain dominates the NBA record book. And he's not just the top guy on the lists below. In several cases, he's No. 1, 2 and 3. It's hard to believe that there will ever be another player who can dominate as many statistical categories as the Big Dipper did." Jordan doesn't come close to Wilt in most of important records. Go to the link and read the stats. For example, he has by far the most 50 point games. This link shows that Wilt had 118 games where he scored 50 or more points. Second on the all time list is Michael Jordan, who did it 34 times. That's a massive gap. Clearly Wilt was the greatest scorer ever. www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/50-point-game-most-times.html
What's amazing is that NBA didn't record his blocks. He probably could have 5-10+ more records if blocks were included. He has at least 7k blocks and career average of 8.8
Lately there has been so much talk about triple double records. Wilt actually owns these as well, since official blocked shot records only started the year after Wilt left the Lakers.

5000 yrs from now, Wilts records will still be intact!! Go on Wikipedia and look for yourself! The best ever, not even close!! It's scary who would cover him today!
I agree. Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest basketball player of all-time. Excellent analysis of the the impact "The Big Dipper" had on the game of basketball. Wilt Chamberlain dominated the NBA like Babe Ruth dominated MLB and Jim Brown dominated the NFL. No matter how many of Ruth's and Brown's records have be broken, few - if any - historians and/or fans place anyone above them on their all-time lists. Chamberlain deserves his spot on the mythical sports Mr. Rushmore with Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali.
Yeah, and not uncommon. Transition was the name of the game and Wilt, Russell, and a lot of other centers were essential to its function. Big passes like that were part of a good center's arsenal. Chamberlain and Russell were the best at it.
He has 72 records, 68 alone. He averaged over 50 points a game one year, in rebounding several times, with unreal numbers, assists one year. I’m sure if they recorded blocks and steals before 73-74 he would own the blocking title .?( unofficial) A real pity I took him for granted as I thought the ultimate goal in the NBA was to win championships and Boston had many titles.I was a very young man who took a liking to basketball. Using that thinking I thought Bill Russell was better, mainly because he led a championship team. Should have paid closer attention to Chamberlain to get a better understanding- that’s just me trying to change the past again. Now with many years of experience it’s obvious he was a once in lifetime player. A guy it seems now will be the best for a long time. Some of his blocks no doubt were above the top of the back board. So many things we’d never seen and many may never see again. Pity he went so young. I bet he had some great stories!
Alright now, I'm gonna bolster your argument with a point I've never heard anyone bring up, and it's based on illustrating how time may fly but is NOT the ancient history many young fans think, with no relevance to today. So here we go, let's remove the cloak of confusion in terms of eras.. ok so the old guy from the 80's up to the 90s, named Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was still good enough to dominate and win an MVP during the Magic/Bird/early Jordan era, he and Johnson fueling the Showtime Lakers , he was obviously a great player in the 80s, but what many forget is how unbelievably good ,mercilessly dominant and even better young Kareem was with the Bucks in the early 70s. So imagine that bald guy you saw in the 80s winning all those titles , only a LOT more dominant..., then realize that that young Milwaukee Buck, who was eating the entire league alive in a way that bordered on embarrassing, got to play against Wilt for a few years, and believe me, Kareem handed it to Wilt on offense, but now there's a factor no one brings. Wilt obviously gave Kareem more than he could handle as well, but he was already well into his decline when he first played against young Lew Alcindor, he'd already had knee surgeries that left him no where near the athletic big man who dominated the game from the late 50s to late 60s, add to that the debauched lifestyle and lack of modern sports medicine, in other words, Kareem didn't play Wilt at the top of his game, not even close. So that great player Kareem who as an older man was able to kick some serious ass in the Bird/Doctor/Magic and even Jordan era, when he was even better in the early 70s, couldn't deal very well with an old injured, now non-athletic Chamberlain. Wilt was blocking huge number of shots against those Bucks teams, pulling down 20 rebounds a game against Kareem. I rest our case
I know I’m a year behind here but great video. WIlt was the most dominant player ever. He played 3 different roles on teams all at an elite level. People trash his competition but there were only 8 teams so only the top 90-120 players of his time made it to the league. Today the top 360 - 450 players make the league. He was 75% more likely to face his era’s best every night than today’s player is. And people say players back then were not as good which is bullshit. The hoop was 10 feet from the ground just like it is now. If anything rules were harder on traveling, goaltending, and assists were harder to get credit for. Sure the average player is more athletic now but the modern player has training and nutrition the 60s player didn’t have.

For all of the people who insist Michael Jordan was better. I would like to pose a question or two. Did Jordan (a guard) ever lead the league in assists? Because 7'1" center Wilt Chamberlain did! Jordan was a great scorer, a talented defender, one of the most competitive players ever. When Chamberlain wanted to score he dropped 100 in a game, and average 50 for a season. Did Jordan ever do that? He was also an imposing, intimidating defender, a dominant rebounder, and had pretty fantastic passing skills for a big center. If he had played in the day of the 24 hour sports network I think more people would know that he is the Goat, a once in a lifetime talent, and it isn't even close! I think his dominance is so shocking to young fans that they wrongly assume his competition must have been weak since no one could be that good. It's a logical thing to think, it just happens to be dead wrong.
What Jordan did was incredible for a shooting guard. But what Wilt did was incredible for any player regardless of position. That's the difference between them.
he is also the only player to average OVER 48 minutes per game over the course of a season. During the season of his 100 point game, he averaged 48.5 minutes per game. He played all but 3 minutes over the entire season!!!
In 1984 Dan Marino had 48 touchdowns..in second place Dave Krieg had 32. Most starting NFL QBs had 14 to 19. In 1927 Babe Ruth led the American League with 60 homeruns. Tony Lazzeri was THIRD in the American League WITH 18 (!). Yes 60 for first place and 18 for third place. In 1962 Wilt averaged 50 points a game. He was special and I have not seen skills like his since. I was there. Currents centers STINK.
shigsho- good points & the thing is, it was not a fluke or an aberation. He ave 44.8ppg the following year and I think around 38 the next year. As a rookie he averaged 38pts. 27rbs. He was ROY & MVP. Had he not adjusted his game to become a more complete player in order to win a championships, he most likely could/would have averaged AT LEAST 35ppg probably more for his career.
Wrong. Deandre Jordan would have scored 50 per game in 1962. All you had to do to average 50 ppg back then was to be an athletic 7 footer. Andre Drummond, Dwight howard, etc.. all would have averaged 50 ppg. I think that shaq would have averaged 80 ppg back then. 300 lb, 7 footers were literally like having a different species playing on the court back in the 1960s. You cant beat a dolphin at swimming, you cant beat a cheetah at running, and you cant beat wilt chamberlain in the paint in the 1960s. Nowadays you can hire some slow uncoordinated 300 pound centers to slow shaq down. But back then, there were no 300 pound centers to hold chamberlain back. It wasn't even fair. Its like an adult playing in little league.
shigsho Bla bla bla. You never watched george mikan play. Does that mean that you cant see how slow basketball was in videos from the 50s? Its obvious. Just watch the videos of 50s basketball and laugh.

Using the KISS philosophy, Wilt Chamberlain has the highest regular season AND post-season TPA (e.g., Total Production Average) in NBA history. The TPA is a combination of points, rebounds, and assists. The Big Dipper is the only player to have a regular and post-season TPA of 50 or more. Wilt's regular season TPA is 57.4 and his post-season TPA is 51.2. In terms of team accomplishments, one could argue that Wilt's 2 title teams are 2 of the top 5 teams in NBA history. His 1966-67 Sixers squad was 46-4 in their first 50 games, set a then record regular season mark of 68-13, and was 11-4 in the playoffs. His 1971-72 Lakers squad set a professional sports record with 33 consecutive wins, set a then record regular season mark of 69-13, and was 12-3 in the playoffs.
His decline in numbers in the playoffs is actually very misleading. Wilt did not need to put up great stats if he didn't need to, but did when necessary. He played in nine Game 7s and in those games he averaged 24.4 points, 26.6 rebounds, and shot .626 from the field. In the series ending games in the Finals he averaged 23.3 points, 26.0 rebounds, and shot .658 from the field. There is no other player in NBA history with these kinds of performances. In the most important games he took less but smarter shots, increased his rebounding, and upped his defense. You won't know this by simply comparing stats. Wilt played in 35 "must-win" playoff games where he went 24-11 in them while averaging 27.0 points and 26.1 rebounds. Wilt was one of the greatest playoff performers of all time!
Jordan, Kareem, Kobe, LeBron, et al could not carry Wiltie's jock! This guy was THE greatest athlete of all time and hands down, the greatest bball player as well. Who's better? NOBODY!!!
I haven't watched this video yet, that I remember. Wilt Chamberlain did many fantastic things on the basketball court that nobody else could do. Nobody has even come close to the matching his over all offensive and defensive statistics, from his first 6 years in the NBA, in any era. He did all of that while appearing to be on cruise control. He was an absolute phenomenon, and was almost bigger than the game. If he had played with the intensity that a lot of players played with, he probably would have caused some severe, career ending injuries to other players, by accident. It would have also been a possibility of him destroying the league, or at least owning it.
I find that when looking for the GOAT, too much emphasis is put on championships. As great as certain players are, basketball is a team game and, as such, the superstar can only do so much if he's playing with four schmucks. Charles Barkley was a perfect example of this. Utah had two great players in John Stockton and Karl Malone and couldn't win a championship. This is why championships, although important, shouldn't be emphasized as much as often are when determining the GOAT. This is why Wilt Chamberlain deserves more respect in regards to this issue. He put up monster numbers some seasons and because he played with a bunch of hacks couldn't win a championship during those years. How is this his fault? So, why penalize him from being more strongly considered as the GOAT?!
OMG , Can you imagine if Wilt came out in the internet age?? Can you imagine his 50.4 PPG & 25 RPG season in crisp color with multiple camera angles? Jordan is called the best mostly cuz of his 30.1 PPG career stats. Well Wilt avg'd over 30 , PLUS is the best rebounder & shot-blocker the game has ever known...hmmm
Keep in mind this was before the 3pt line was made.... Imagine if he had more scoring options and less chances for 3 to 4 people to crowd him everytime he tries to shoot
If blocked shots were a official stat when Wilt played he would have many other records ( like triple and quad doubles) for example. There is good evidence that he recorded the only quintuple double in history. He once had 26 blocks in one game, 24 in another and 23 in another. No doubt the greatest of all time.
Wilt was, by far, the greatest athlete to ever play in the NBA. No one else is even close. Half the rules of the modern game were specifically designed to hinder his dominance.
Wilt was the greatest athlete to ever play the game, period! But that list sucks! There was only one aspect of his game where players like Russell, Bird and Jordan eclipsed Chamberlain... it was the desire to "crush" an opponent. Wilt's prowess was so stellar he never felt the need to elevate his game to destroy an opponent... He never had to push, and never fouled out. Here's how dominate Wilt was at both ends of the court: During his career, Wilt scored 30pts and grabbed 30 rebounds in a single game, 124 times. The rest of the NBAs greatest players ever, all of them COMBINED... 32? Domination!
He already has 4 MVPs, which is awesome, but he should have several more. The fact that he didn't get it the season he averaged 50 and 25 is outrageous. It should have been the first unanimous MVP, yet he wasn't even the MVP.
Awesome vid JW ! Wilt was unstoppable....period. He did exactly what he wanted to on the court. Every player has goals coming into the NBA but Wilt gets $hit for that same thing. "He just wanted to bolster his ow stats".....R U F'n kidding me??? EVERY player wants to do that , even if team oriented. Most just CAN'T. If Wilt wanted something he GOT it. He was asked to stop scoring at such a high level & let others take the role....& he DID. To me , Wilt's only short coming is ( besides FT's) , is he took easy on people so not to hurt them. WIlt was a finesse player. Think about that , THE strongest man to ever play sports was a finesses player! I think the only time he used his bulk was to back guys down in the paint. He would simply bend over , to make the guy guarding him back up a few feet & then Wilt would leap & Dunk. From when Wilt 1st started playing , anytime he went up for a shot , he threw his arms up in there , as to say ," i didnt hit/hurt 'em".... You can see it many Vid's from the ((Wilt Chamberlain Archive channel))! Simply put , that was because he was black. & in the late 50's threw the 60's , that WAS a problem. Altho Wilt took people as individuals , he COULD have looked at it another way , ya know. And thru THAT process , Wilt became a finesse player as he matured. Racism itself held Wilt back. If Wilt had the attitude of a Charles Barkley , i truly believe that Wilt's name in the record books would be even more prominent...STILL!
Wilt chamberlain like Michael Jordan was divinely fulfilling his earthly journey. Whenever you see men like this who had short family members, MJ's brothers were 5'4" and 5'5", his mom and dad under 5'10" while Wilt's family was about the same, you know you're seeing something special. Plus both Wilt and Jordan were super strong while being slim players at first.
I saw Wilt play hundreds of times. The other night I watched a Boston game and saw their "big men" Al Horford and Kelly Olynyk. I laughed because looking at them I knew that Wilt would have had a 60 point 30 rebound 10 assist 10 block game against the Celtics. What a joke the current centers are. LOL. So funny.
My grandpa is always talking about how he went to high school with him and watched him play in the old sixers arena and always says he’s the goat I agree
Also the only quintuple double. And if they recorded assists the way they do today (it was much harder to record an assist back then it is well known e.g. that Oscar Robertson should have averaged 3-4 more assists some seasons), that would mean that with Wilt averaging 10.9 and 10.7 blocks in 67 and 68 you'd see a player averaging a quadruple double for two seasons in a row.
Fact, Micheal Jordan had 31 50+points in his career...........Wilt had 50.4 pts per game in 48 games in a row, in the entire season of 1962..(PLUS ANOTHER 12 years of playing..........He also matched up quite frequently as they were both in the Esstern conference for at least 7 years in the sixties, with Bill Russell (THE GEATSEAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER)..so dont say he didn't play anybody but scrubs..
Exactly. Larry and Oscar (Robertson) both. Each was patient and crafty enough to get their defenders off balance enough to get off a good shot.
+BigFlip GameUnder2 true.. but still many arguments could be made that wilt was better than Jordan, but we'll never truly know.

Marion Gamboa
I actually played against Ralph Sampson once when he was 14 or 15 I think.
C Howard
600 pounds? Where do you get that?
Also, don't forget when Wilt Chamberlain averaged 48.5 minutes per game, many 60s players were able to stay 42-43-44 minutes per night for a whole season on the court. So, comparing 60s to 80s is inaccurate.
C Howard
Your reference is an obscure writer on an obscure forum? I mean c'mon! According to some ding dongs on various forums, Shaquille O'Neal was able to press 575 pounds. Shaquille O'Neal was to lazy to push that weight.

Nobody in basketball history can ever testify to doing anything close to that. Wilt was a special guy like no other.
Read name instead of game lol. Thought you meant Kareem
Actually it was Bill Russell who changed the game before Wilt. They expanded the lanes and banned dunks thanks to both Bill and Wilt. Russell's team won 11 NBA titles in 13 years, with 8 in a row. Wilt.

Just checking: did any other player ever have a 60/40 game? That is- 60 points, 40 rebounds. Anybody else?
Wilt had 70-40 78 pts. 43 rebounds in a game Jordan had I believe 31 games in which he scored 50 or more points. Wilt did it 45 times in one season. I think he tallied 118 such games in his career. 36? You mean 26 versus Detroit.
Its not that impressive. Watch some video of how he did it. He used to stand flat footed on the wing and throw the ball over your head to cutters.

Wilt hands down
no player changed his game over the course of his career like Wilt did..He went from unstoppable scorer early in his career, to incredible defensive stopper late in his career. He even became a distributor instead of scorer averaging 7.8 and 8.6 assists per game in back to back seasons.
I know wilt is the best of all time stats don't lie. end of story Michael fans.
Wilt wrote the NBA record book
CHECK ALL-TIME P.E. RATING= WILT LEADS JORDAN.
'Stats are like bikini. They show something but not all' 😉
Rasuke11 -- "captaindavejudasfan Stats over all and accolades point Jordan dumbass only you and a handful of idiots on you to even think Wilt is goat. Michael is the standard because he set the standard DUMBASS"
You haven't looked at the numbers, then. Wilt holds a ton of NBA records to this day. Look them up.
Wait... I'll give you the link:
www.nba.com/encyclopedia/wilts_records.html
Here is the opening paragraph from that link...
" With 72 records (68 of which he holds by himself), Wilt Chamberlain dominates the NBA record book. And he's not just the top guy on the lists below. In several cases, he's No. 1, 2 and 3. It's hard to believe that there will ever be another player who can dominate as many statistical categories as the Big Dipper did."
Jordan doesn't come close to Wilt in most of important records.
Great video, its nice to see a young guy with appreciation for a player who played so long ago
The more I Learn about Wilt as a TOTAL Athlete there is NO DOUBT he is probably the greatest ATHLETE to live and I am a Huge Jordan Fan,
The guy played 48 minutes
Played for YEARS all 82 games
25 rebounds plus a game
Blocking shots like crazy
And NEVER FOULED OUT,
Got drafted to play football
Ran a 40 yard dash In about 4.45 at 7 feet 300lbs!!!
Played professinal volleyball
LEAD the league in ASSISTS!!!
HIGH JUMPED
I mean , WHAT!!
Ps he grabbed 55 rebounds one game ON BILL RUSSELL one of the greatest players !!!
Rushmore with Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali.
did he just threw a full court with minimal effort? oh my!
Jack Dempsey where in the video?
Yes where in the vid I got to see
Senne Bogaerts 5:50 keep watching
Mega Tron 5:50 keep watching
Yeah, and not uncommon. Transition was the name of the game and Wilt, Russell, and a lot of other centers were essential to its function. Big passes like that were part of a good center's arsenal. Chamberlain and Russell were the best at it.
He has 72 records, 68 alone. He averaged over 50 points a game one year, in rebounding several times, with unreal numbers, assists one year. I’m sure if they recorded blocks and steals before 73-74 he would own the blocking title .?( unofficial)
A real pity I took him for granted as I thought the ultimate goal in the NBA was to win championships and Boston had many titles.I was a very young man who took a liking to basketball.
THE GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME!!!!!!
In my opinion the Greatest Player to ever play basketball at any level high school college or pro
THE BEST EVER...PERIOD.
Wilt Chamberlain, most 50 point games = 118. Most 40 point games 271. Most 30 point games 515. As MC Hammer sang, "Can't touch this."
Wilt didn't win finals MVP in 67. the award didn't become a thing till 69. Wilt the goat still
He also missed 50 free throws and was outscored by 4 teammates

Imagine him today, with modern training. He would match up so well to todays centers, he would be just as dominant.
Yes,dead wrong...Wilt was the GOAT
He was almost 40 and still block a prime Kareem skyhook that's impressive
Young wilt would have knock the air out of the skyhook or flattened it
WILT the STILT
The Greatest Basketball Player Ever!
he is also the only player to average OVER 48 minutes per game over the course of a season.
Thanks James. The young kids never saw Wilt play and simply don't know.
shigsho Bla bla bla. You never watched george mikan play. Does that mean that you cant see how slow basketball was in videos from the 50s? Its obvious. Just watch the videos of 50s basketball and laugh.
your thr sort who would say rices record in football were not that good
JOHNNY THAT VIDEO WAS EXCELLENT! THE MISIC ACCOMMODATES THE VIDEO AS WELL! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. WILT AT TIMES HELD BACK BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO EMBARRASS OTHERS! I REALLY BELIEVE, THAT HE DID SO ON MANY CASES, BECAUSE HE FELT SORRY FOR THE MERE MORTALS WHO TRIED TO PLAY AGAINST HIM! YES, HE WAS THE GREATEST TO DON THE UNIFORM! HANDS DOWN! REST IN PEACE WILT! YOU'LL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART AS A PLAYER AND AS A MAN! EARL OF EL BARRIO, NYC, NY. 10/21/19. 12:28AM
The ONLY other word that precisely describes "THE STILT"is "PHENOMENON!"
The numbers don't lie. Wilt was the best. The best rebounder and even the best scorer of all time. 50 ppg and 25 rpg in the same season. Unbelievable.
Against short, slow players who could only dribble with one hand...or who had the vertical of a gerbil.
You're a joke
Goat no one player was close to him he could block Kareem’s sky hook
AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE
lol. great game last night.
KevWin DurGOAT It baffles me why anyone would say that Wilt Chamberlain wasn't the greatest basketball player to ever.
gerard bain a big reason for that is cuz his numbers significantly decline in the playoffs and then even more in the finals
KevWin DurGOAT. AMEN
Jordan, Kareem, Kobe, LeBron, et al could not carry Wiltie's jock! This guy was THE greatest athlete of all time and hands down, the greatest bball player as well. Who's better? NOBODY!!!
They only remember the rings but man seriously the man avg 50 points a game ...55 rebounds ...thats sick !
Victor Bruins preach my brother
Victor Bruins Bill Laimbeer has two rings Moses Malone has 1 . I guess Laimbeer is a better player . Lol
Jordan had 1-9 before he got help.
He probably wasn't just the best basketball player but probably the best athlete ever
He was both and he was a superhuman. When he died at a relative young age it It was like Superman dying !!! I cried that day!
I agree completely!
WILT NUMBER 1 SHOULD'VE MENTIONED HIS ABILITY ON TRACK AND FIELD!!!!!!!
Honestly, he puts Michael Jordan to shame!
Machiel jordan no 100 point game, kobe score 81 points
Machiel jordan never average 50,44 points in a game like wilt
If blocked shots were a official stat when Wilt played he would have many other records ( like triple and quad doubles) for example. There is good evidence that he recorded the only quintuple double in history. He once had 26 blocks in one game, 24 in another and 23 in another. No doubt the greatest of all time.
you forgot to mention that he was a great track and field athlete during college
4.4 secs for 40 metres
48 secs for 400 metres
Not actually recorded but a video shows him high jumping somewhere between 6 ft 6 and 7 ft
WOWEEEE
he was also a great volleyball player.

Wilt was, by far, the greatest athlete to ever play in the NBA. No one else is even close. Half the rules of the modern game were specifically designed to hinder his dominance.
Wilton, easily.
What about his 46 inches vertical jump ? This guy is a beast i swear
Domination!
Yet he only won 1 title.
Failure.
2 titles, and went up against the best team ever assembled multiple times
WILT CHAMBERLAIN WAS THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER IN THIS EARTH PERIOD NO QUESTIONS ASK BY A MILE GREATEST OF ALL-TIME
prime vs prime, 1 on 1, no one has ever been able to beat him in modern times or in his time.
If block were recorded in the past then he recorded 5k blocks
These stats are amazing ...averaging 20+ rebs will never be matched together with the 20 or 30+ points
Love this !! #1 Wilt
Wilt my hero too, got few of his books
Wilt was also part of the Lakers streak, lets not forget that.
LOL. So funny.
I love watching old videos of wilt, even when he was very old and bad knee against Willis Reed , jabber, etc etc
My grandpa is always talking about how he went to high school with him and watched him play in the old sixers arena and always says he’s the goat I agree
11)should have had most blocks, triple doubles and quadruple doubles if they would have counted blocks
Also the only quintuple double. And if they recorded assists the way they do today (it was much harder to record an assist back then it is well known e.g. that Oscar Robertson should have averaged 3-4 more assists some seasons), that would mean that with Wilt averaging 10.9 and 10.7 blocks in 67 and 68 you'd see a player averaging a quadruple double for two seasons in a row.
he invented the alley oop checkout at 0.10 back in college which was 50's
Really,
Will was the most althletic 7 footer of all time. The dude ran a forty just as fast as LeBron James.
Don't put Chamberlain and Lebron in same segment. I even believe he run faster than him. He had better vertical than Jordan, he had bench press 600lbs
Faster than Lebron, that is top wide receiver speed.
Wilt Chamberlain is the most dominant NBA player in history.
Johnny Walker LA your right !!!! Wilt IS # 1
Fact, Micheal Jordan had 31 50+points in his career...........Wilt had 50.4 pts per game in 48 games in a row, in the entire season of 1962..(PLUS ANOTHER 12 years of playing..........He also matched up quite frequently as they were both in the Esstern conference for at least 7 years in the sixties, with Bill Russell (THE GEATSEAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER)..so dont say he didn't play anybody but scrubs..
no doubt best ever in NBA and one of top 3 athletes of All Time
Wilt = 🐐
