Merci pour ce partage en live J'adore cette chanson de Mike Clifford Je la trouve magnifique De plus même non bilingue les paroles sont simples pour moi Merveilleuse chanson de 1962
I remember from Audubon Jr. High in L.A. when I started 7th grade. He was in 9th grade and part of a trio coached by Mr. McNeil, one of the music teachers. Later I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show singing this song.
When my cousin went to fight in the Vietnam War in the late 60's, he gave me his 45s. This was my favorite of all of them. Breathtakingly beautiful. Over 40 years later, what a treat to finally see Mike perform this song.
This has been a song I've loved since I heard it and bought the record back in the sixties. Always played it, thinking of a girl I talked to, was smitten with, but knew she'd never feel the same about me. Lost loves! LOL
I dedicate this song to my Aunt Betty, who passed away in 2005. For some reason, this was the song going through my head in the cemetery. It has a very special place in my heart now. RIP Aunt Betty. I love you.
Finally somebody uploaded an original video of Mike singing his wondeful and ever so beautiful hit song and just after it's 50th anniversary too! I was nowhere near being alive in 1962 but I love it. It's just amazing how people's dreams can come true, as I'm sure many people have been wanting to see this clip for ages and some will remember it and will be taken way back. My mom grew up on oldies that's how I know about Mike. Thanks again for the upload, you are awesome!
HELLO>I ALSO LOVE THIS SONG@THE GUY WHO SINGS I'M SO CLOSE TO CATHY IT SURE BOUGHT BACK A LOT OF YEARS GONE BY>I GROW UP IN THE 1950's WHEN THESE SONGS REALLY MEANT A LOT>Thanks David diGregorio
Truly a Beautiful Song with Personal Meaning to myself as there is A Special Cathy to me, although at the moment it lacks genuine reciprocation. For My Lady by The Moody Blues Ray Thomas(R.I.P.), is another Cathy Tear Jerker I Truly Adore. Special Music from a Special Time.
Back in the mid 60s I visited Bleeker Street Record Shop in Greenwich Village New Yorkand Mike Clifford and the group The Orlons were signing autographs and record sleeves and this is the record that Mike signed for me-I will always remember that time-Paul was here-06-09-16-BTW-they were both appearing on American Bandstand in Philadelphia at that time.
1962 was a great year, the year I got my drivers license. I remember driving around listening to this great song. Thanks for posting this. I never knew what Mike looked like. Good memories!
This guy had a big influence on Brian Wilson's singing style along with Bob Flanagan of the 4 Freshmen. The chord changes of this song are very similar to "God Only Knows."
this song has real meaning for me. Joyce Cathy miller was my first love. I was her best friend and now regret that I did not tell her I love her , sure wish I can find here again myself. we were living in st bruno, quebec at the time in early sixes

We ALL had a Kathy, didn't we fellas? That one girl that used to tell us everything about herself as we sat there and listened to the high points and the low points in her life. We were the one whose shoulder she always cried on when her new love ditched her or cheated on her, and we secretly hoped she would one give US a chance some day, but it never happened. Or it DID, and it ruined the friendship. Decades later we turn to that special page in our high school yearbook and see Kathy as she was the last time we'd seen her at graduation, and wonder where she is now, and wish that it was US that she was with for all those years. Life is cruel, friends....
Charles C Thank ya' kindly. I went thru that myself and while I'm over the sadness as it was decades back, this song hits me in the heart now and then whenever I hear it. I suppose I'm not the only one though. There's a million more of us guys out there who Mike speaks to directly with this song.
Mike Clifford (his real name, although it might seem like it could have been made up for show business, like England's Cliff Richard) has had a very long career as a pop vocalist, despite only having one big US chart hit (this one) and just two more in the Top 100 nationally, all in 1962-63. It's not such an unusual story for early-'60s teen idol vocalists who didn't create their own music to subsequently disappear from the American charts. Clifford did better internationally and has had career longevity working for him. Not many of his peers could withstand the British Invasion and the changes of the late '60s, and then continue from where they left off as recording artists.
check him out on Facebook, its a scream!!! Just look up his name with the name of the song afterward. Mike Clifford-Close to Cathy. The eyebrows will keel you over.
Is mike clifford still alive today? I do some singing with a friend of mine. I have been working on this song. It is hard to get all the lyrics down. I love the song! Cheers!
Never heard of this song until recently. I love, love, it. I am an oldie fan from way back. He is a very good looking guy, wonder what he looks like now?
This is dedicated to Kathy ..... a 1966 WHS classmate. Okay, she spells it with a K but what the heck Kathy is Cathy and I’m sure she remembers this song from the 60’s! greg

Is he Clint Eastwood's brother ?;^D
It's a very sweet song. I have absolutely no memory of it or him at all! He kind of of reminds me of James Darren.

Traduction français/anglais
Je suis si proche de Cathy
I'm so close to Cathy
Je sais exactement de quoi elle rêve
I know just what she's dreaming of
Elle m'appelle toujours pour me dire
She always calls me up to tell me
Chaque fois qu'elle tombe amoureuse
Every time she falls in love
Oh je suis si proche de Cathy
Oh I'm so close to Cathy
Je la connais à chaque tendre soupir
I know her every tender sigh
Elle adore pleurer sur mon épaule
She loves to cry upon my shoulder
Toujours pour un autre gars
Always for some other guy
Oh pourquoi ne peut-elle pas voir
Oh why can't she see
Le seul amour véritable et durable
The one true lasting love
Dans sa vie je devrais être
In her life should be me
Je suis si proche de Cathy
I'm so close to Cathy
Aussi proche que n'importe qui peut l'être
As close as anyone can be
Et je resterai près de Cathy
And I'll stay close to Cathy
En espérant qu'un jour
Hoping some day
Elle se sentira proche de moi
She'll feel close to me
Je suis si proche de Cathy
I'm so close to Cathy
Aussi proche que n'importe qui peut l'être
As close as anyone can be
Et je resterais près de Cathy
And I'll stay close to Cathy
En espérant qu'un jour
Hoping some day
Elle se sentira proche de moi
She'll feel close to me
