Storyline:
"While Ann Wilson and her Uncle Fred are en route to her boyfriend Joe's birthday party, Fred suffers a sudden stroke and is rendered unconscious. A man claiming to be a Good Samaritan stops to help, only to rape and kill Ann. Joe is devastated and vows to track down the killer. While Fred is eventually moved to the Ponderosa to recover (and for his protection against anyone who might want to silence him), Joe undermines Deputy Clem Foster's investigation. Meanwhile, the killer - a munitions expert named William Poole - gets a job on the Ponderosa, since his expertise with a new substance called nitroglycerin can help clear old tree stumps off the ranch. Poole, who is staying with a widowed neighbor named Mrs. Gibson, tries to get at Uncle Fred, but Joe, who has been keeping a bedside vigil, stops him at every turn. Eventually, Joe sees Uncle Fred's hand move and begins questioning him. Fred is only able to scrawl a barely legible message before he goes numb, and suffers a subsequent (and ultimately fatal) stroke. Before Fred dies, Joe manages to figure out the note had something to do with "New Orleans Woman." Joe visits Mrs. Gibson, who produces sheet music to the song. After Joe leaves, Poole returns and Mrs. Gibson eventually realizes that he killed Ann. Poole, knowing he can be identified, kills Mrs. Gibson. Joe later hears an explosion coming from Mrs. Gibson's house and, knowing that Poole had finished his work and was supposed to be on his way, returns to investigate. Upon arrival, he sees Poole carrying Mrs. Gibson's burned corpse into the house, but Joe's suspicions that the explosion was no accident is confirmed when he sees the ripped up sheet music, pieces it back together and fingers Poole as Ann's killer. Poole, who reveals himself as a misogynist, threatens to blow the Ponderosa off the map and throws a vial at Joe, but Joe kills the villain in self-defense." Written by Brian Rathjen on IMDb.com
Reviews:
"In the Bonanza tradition a young girl who Little Joe was courting is brutally raped and murdered Her father who had a stroke was a horrified and silent witness to the crime.
While Harvey Stephens lies in bed the law and the Cartwrights look for a killer. Michael Landon takes it upon himself and it was a piece of music and some dumb luck that traps the killer.
By the way the song is Buffalo Gals with a different title.
We know who the killer is from the beginning and it's a frightening performance this player gives.
It's a good episode that's more melodrama than western." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com
"As previously stated, Simon Oakland plays a traveling explosive salesman (The Thunder Man!) who also is a serial killer and rapist, but hides his demons well and appears courteous and friendly to almost everyone. Even though we know early on who the killer is, the episode is an entertaining one as we see how he is slowly revealed and wonder at times if he will get away with it, much like the format of the Columbo series. Having an explosives salesman makes for some entertaining scenes, and despite how evil he is it makes one think how interesting of a career that might have been. Also, as the previous reviewer stated, makes one wonder how many serial killers may have existed in the Old West, and today as well, that went or go undetected.
While has a disturbing storyline, is an excellent episode with an intriguing plot and good acting, definitely well worth watching." Written by chronis5260 on IMDb.com

Ooof. Mr. Poole was very creepy. His repeated phrase “I surely do” became unsettling real quick. This is one of the best episodes for Little Joe! Really enjoyed the scene with him and the deputy arguing - some great acting right there.
THE PONDEROSA. It's a hospital. Hotel. Courthouse. And their judge and jury and Sheriff's🤠 😂
Hoss would never miss Little Joe's birthday party!
I really like this one. You can hear the red wing black birds in the background singing their very unique song. My favorite birds. They used to eat from my hands down in Florida.
Simon Oakland is one of my favorite actors. He's versatile, he can play villains and good guys. He's one of the best in the business. 🎭 🎥
Definitely one of the darker Bonanza episodes I’ve seen…
Along with the dark gate
i loved that song new olreans women that was from LOUISIANA
I love when the Cartwrights have party's at their ranch
Also known as parties
Like the Barkleys in big valley
The actor playing Mr. Poole is a genius...that "That's a fact" and "Surely am" is a great character choice revealing his guilt and constant need to confirm his own feelings. Loved him on The Rockford Files!
Lmaaaaaoo
He got beat up by Spenser Tracy in some movie.
I don’t know if he ever really felt guilty
@@ag5495 Simon Oakland was also great in The Twilight Zone and believe he was Kolchak, The Night Stalker's boss.
Bullitt with Steve McQueen
Such a pleasure to watch something that entertaining.
Love Bonanza. It was painful trying to watch Lil Joe figure it out ... and talking in front of the killer, a complete stranger, about it all ... drove me crazy! Great acting by the guest stars.
it drove me crazy too. I had to call him Charles Ingalls, because he would've figured it out alot quicker
ve
Is that Simon Oakland
Every time Joe stood there thinking and that killer stood there watching, I really thought I could reach into the TV screen and shake Joe's shoulders till his brain cells woke up. And who doesn't recognize the tune of 'Buffalo Gals'?
He was in another episode where he whistling a haunting tune and attacked a woman then murdered him.
@@lilliewalker3126 yes
Ever notice how Hoss is the only one who tips his hat in the intro?
I love Bonanza it’s so romantic and relaxing just take me back
It is very relaxing to wine down and have a bite to eat .
It’s relaxing to hear Mrs. Gibson sing New Orleans women.
Is me too I love that show Bonanza who's this like the same shows that I like where it is bless you and bless your family and then
I agree. I don't normally like westerns, but this show has substance.
What a gentleman: He´s not sick, he´s dead :D
I thought i'd seen all of the series but I haven't seen this one, thank you so much for sharing this episode, I'm a big fan.
Great episode loved it

One of my top five Bonanza episodes period !
What a treat to watch these episodes...Thank you so much for posting these..💕💗💖
Thanks
Well done! "The thunder man" was a good actor, and his repetitive phrases in the script made him distinct. Thanks, Grjngo
@Joe Owens. I agree Joe. This detective type episode reminds me of another episode where Adam did the detective type work to figure out who the killer was. Grjngo showed that episode as well. The title of that one is "Elegy for a Hangman." The date for that episode is January 20, 1963. It was as well written as this episode was. I think that you will really enjoy it! 🙂
Simon Oakland
@@lynettepalecek3141 You have to mention Adam to praise him and you forget that Hoss was the chapter more similar to this than Adam's... JOE AND HOSS AND BEN THEY ARE BONANZA

This is one of the great episodes. Bonanza is such a wholesome show, with quality, and like the fact that I can revisit it on RUclips, and skip the pornographic advertisements.
A well-scripted, acted and directed episode. As some of my fellow viewers have so rightly commented, this is a fascinating murder mystery. We know who is the killer, yet we cannot be certain whether he will be unmasked in time. And there is nuance to these characters, particularly Evelyn Scott's Mrs. Gibson. The eerie and sickly attraction between her and Simon Oakland's Poole is edgier than most depicted in TV Westerns of that period. Again, a fascinating episode and worth watching. Many thanks for airing it!
This is one the best episodes, it certainly is...
@@adrian72300 Agreed.
A killer only walks away for a short time. But his sin will always catch up with him and destroy him. A good episode. This one shows how the killer makes mistakes and pays the Ultimate price. Always on Bonanza.
Horrible episode. I'm black. Very few, if any blacks on Bonanza, and he has to be a psychotic, evil murderer. Fts. F Bonanza.
@@kevc21 Thank you for your insightful reply. To the best of my knowledge, the actor Simon Oakland, who played the murderer, was not African American. But you are absolutely correct that there were very few Black actors in Bonanza. This series, like others, is most definitely a product of its time. Bonanza ran from the late 1950s through the early 1970s, parallel to the Civil Rights Movement and Black Liberation Movement. The country, and in turn Hollywood, were changing, but very slowly. However, I still think that this was an interesting and view-worthy TV episode. In any event, I appreciate very much your valuable and insightful input. Thank you again.
Little Joe is a hot tempered mess. He is feisty as all get out; he will snap on you at the drop of a hat. It's as if he has a 'tic' for lack of a better word.🤷♀️ Thank goodness he was raised by Ben, if anybody else had raised him he would be a maniac! However we love him still.
William Poole is a nut!
What are the most powerful Bonanza episodes ever Simon Oakland as a diamond Dynamite seller is a is a serial killer of women across the country he doesn't even remember how many he killed it he says at the end this is a very very intense episode and one of the greatest Bonanza episodes ever made Simon Oakland is bone chilling
What a beautiful bed 🛌 that poor old man is lying in. 😊😊😊😊😊😊
A psychotic serial killer on Bonanza. Who would have thought that. But father and son missed the first clue. At 11:35 when Poole says to Little Joe and Ben, 'would that be the girl's Uncle?' Little Joe or Ben should have asked, 'How do you know?' But then I guess there would not be a story.
That’s what I thought too!! Columbo would of asked! 😁
I hated Columbo.
They probably weren't paying attention close enough
Classic western
Sick man ! 😠😠😠👍👌😘🥰😍🤗⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks for posting
Thanks for tuning in! Happy you enjoyed it! 🤠👌🎬🍿
In addition to this episode, there are a lot that I haven't seen as well. But I will always enjoy seeing any of them.
These episodes are so well done.
These cartwrights like Benjamin Cartwright has such wisdom and had a way with words when he talked to me and everything sounds so simple and easy to understand a man of great education inspiring person especially to listen to in here could communicate so well and with anyone out there had a lot of character of course all the actors in the series was programmed Bonanza all them had character and wisdom beyond their years very very inspiring program very enlightening I spent hours and days watching episode after episode just a wonderful program I don't think programs like these anymore of course they don't do anything anymore like things too I guess it's a sign of the times to me sad times those days will never come back we need to hold on to these movies and programs cuz they show us the time in our lives they were happier times wonderful times on TV was great and not one of us today
You said it so well "That's a fact.'
Creepy episode.
Great western
Happy to hear that, thanks for tuning in! 🤠👌🎬🍿
A really good episode . Thanks again
They talking about a murder in front of a stranger wow
I AM Greatness Beyond Extraordinary. Ur So Right Big facts. I Just watch It. Lil Joe Not Nothing To Play With At All
Like u said Mr Poole these things are best left to the Authorities
Guilt is a powerful emotion.
Great I always love them
Lil Joe’s girlfriends either die or leave him 😢
Yep. Same was true with the sons from The Big Valley.
She wasn't Little Joe's girlfriend. Just a friend
Adam is soooooo good looking Little Joe didn't get all the good looks.🥰♥️♥️👍👍
No Adam was hot
I think Ben too! ♡ They all had theyre own charm, but I think Adam and Ben are my top 2.
@@janetlarsen8072 Adam is my choice.
ADAM WAS ALREADY A MAN. MEANWHILE LITTLE JOE WAS JUST A STILL GROWING KID. BUT HE WAS THE HANDSOMEST.
As a young girl.... i loved Adam as well.
Excellent but disturbing episode that stays with you emotionally! I think the same actor played a whistling killer in one of the later Bonanza episodes!
I remember that one!!
Simon Oakland
Good episode really enjoyed it
Good story !
He didn't just start killing. . . been at it his whole life.
Man, Adam was handsome, even his voice.❤❤
I love this show, but I’ll bet over a thousand characters were killed, murdered, died, or were otherwise sent to meet their maker one way or another.
Why ddnt little Joe & Ben notice Mr Wilson's eyes bulge out when the THUNDERMAN greatly played by Simon Oakland was anywhere near him?
Thanks, good episode!
Happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! 🤠👌🎬🍿
Good one.

A girl named Ann was going to Pendarosa with her uncle Fred and she was sexually harassed and killed by a criminal called William Poole . The culprit ran away. Again he killed another old woman. Joseph Cartwright was determined to catch the culprit and at last he killed him and solved the case. Such a great story. Western Classics. This episode is my favourite.

If that wagon had more Nitro in it lil joe would be gone
Hoss sure had a bit part in this episode. Was wondering if he was going to show up at all.
Yeah.Where is he?
I kept telling Little Joe to use Morse code.
One of a great episode from one of my all time favorite classic TV series! But unfortunately Mr. Poole's true motive is never revealed. That part really baffled me
In his mental illness , he thought he was the most powerful man alive.
@@mjohn9199 That's a great analysis! 😊👍👍
He's Thunderman!!!
He was a serial killer & motive can be difficult to fathom in many cases.
@@rickw3243 Indeed! I agree 100%
As much as I like bonanza and the cartwrights, I almost get the idea that inspector clouseau is a close relative of the cartwrights

Absolute hilarity Grjngo. The nitro blew the stump to smithereens but had little effect on the woman killer. His corpse was fully intact. Comedic, creative writing for sure.
The actor that plays thunder man, plays a brute in all the movies he stars in
Poor Simon Oakland played an absolute scumbag in all three Bonanza episodes he appeared in
You do what you gotta do to eat 'n' pay the bills.
played bad guy parts on Rifleman too
I don´t know if anybody else might have noticed, but I swear I saw him open his eyes - her uncle may not be dead afterall!
Of course by why say that? Didn't you watch the entire episode?
Miss Gibson was beautiful! A very good women. Who was lonely. I could feel her being scared!!!!! I was so pissed!!!!! An he standing there lying!!!!! Lil joe got him!!!!! Yes!!!!
When the Nitro exploded, it would have killed the nearby horses. The scene did not show that, too bloody I guess. This felt like an episode from Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Yes!
This guy always plays the bad guy. It's funny.
Another guy too actor Charles Maxwell
Charles Maxwell is another supporting guest roles were villains he played
Oh Little Joe, how dense can you possibly be????!!!!Duh 🙄.
Vincenzoooo... 😁
As usual..little Joe is talking too much in front of the enemy and there goes the woman telling the enemy what Joe told her and isn't that song Buffalo Bill
Close. No, It is Buffalo Gals( won't cha come out tonight, come out tonight , come out tonight. Buffalo gals ....and dance by the Light of the moon.)
I wonder when it was changed ( like Greensleeves became What Child is This?)
I heard my mom talking about remembering laughing about singing Buffalo Gals (with what a child would think was witty , ending with " and she was full of gas.")
It must've been around 1928 or 1929, as this was a toddler's joke cracking up the aunts and uncles. 😅
Wonder when it morphed?
Double post, sorry. All I see in a hurry is the sing was population in mistrial shows in 1800s, Buffalo Gals referred to Buffalo, NY. But it was common to change words to the place they were playing at ( thus New Orleans woman???I don't know without spending hours to try to find it).
It mentions variations in the 1900s, but 70s or later in different genres. I don'tt see any prior switch before 1930, but had to be or maybe this was the original, since my family took a big dive [and though Caucasian even picked cotton in the south, truck farmed, and made a living playing music, too- not minstrel shows, but hillbilly & western swing early records]. So might have known the NY version.
In the drs office......no one even said that Mr Wilson was the girls uncle. So why did thunder man guess that?
I've tried to Google the song New Orleans Woman. Couldn't find it. It sounds an awful lot like Buffalo Gals. I wish I knew more about it. I can't get it out of my head.
I thought it was 'Buffalo Gals won't you come out tonight'
Calamity Jane sang it.
I'm the thunder man every morning
🤣
Terrible blood on the wheel in the final scene. 😂
i think the girl named by the song LOROUX
I cannot understand why Adam left the series. He became world famous, loved by the public, the money was great. He had his own ideas.
Hi wanted more interesting storyline’s and they wouldn’t do it.
He told Lorne that he wanted to do more as an actor...Lorne tried to talk him into staying saying how much money he would be making, but... also, he felt the story line of the dad being in so much control of his grown sons, bothered him, he didn't like that. oh well...
Bad scripts.
More stories on UTube please especially with Adam. So classy that Adam.
@@cynthiamckenzie8451 He wanted Ben's sons to grow up & have lives of their own.He thought at least one should marry, poss a NA girl.He said it was ridiculous that men in their 30s were still living at home with 'Pa'.And he also wanted more stage work.

NOT AN EPISODE FOR CHILDREN.
But us old (as kids) watched and read everything, as long as we had the comfort of parents or grandparents to sit patiently to explain things.
@@belbal5004 I didn't always have that support as a child. I have always tried to give that type of support to my child. I have found the benefits are having a rewarding relationship that has grown and developed as my child has grown into adulthood.
