I was living in Brooklyn but going to college in Manhattan when I first heard this band. I was super broke, so I spent a lot of time riding the subway to the outer boroughs and exploring -- it was fun, it was cheap, and sometimes at night it felt a little bit dangerous. I started going to Rockaway Beach at night to sit alone on the sand and watch the planes flying over from JFK. I had just discovered Lewis Del Mar, so I played them to death while riding the subway and walking on the beach. I remember thinking how their music perfectly fit the lonely, powerful vibe of Rockaway in December. Imagine my surprise when I learned later on that they are FROM Rockaway and the place actually helped inspire the album. Did the music attract me to the place? Did the place attract me to the music? That realization changed the way I think about music in general - how it affects our subconscious more than our conscious, and how it communicates feelings and ideas we can't describe with words alone -- and not just the feelings we ourselves project onto what we hear, but the eerily specific things the artist wants to share with us. It also makes this band feel really special to me -- they 100% portrayed what they wanted to portray, and that's the kind of perfection artists die trying to achieve. I love them, I hope when this pandemic is over and I can get home to NY, I run into them some night on the beach.
This band is a breath of fresh air along with Highly Suspect. The first time I heard Loudy on the radio I knew these guys would be different.
Hancock Eric i agree 100% both bands are amazing
oh my god those were my thoughts exactly!
Hancock Eric bro felt the same way about Highly Suspect it's like the new face of Rock music.
Thought the exact same
I've definitely cried to this album.
Ugh I love their mind set.
Since the day i heard this song 3 years ago (and heard of Lewis Del Mar) by chance - randomly chosen by Spotify - ive felt so connected to it, and you. Today is the first time ive looked up live videos, and to hear you say in the interview that you didnt much think about making music that could make other people cry, i had to tell you that waves and live that long are 2 anthems to my soul and especially the latter will be sung or lip-synced by myself through streams of tears. There is so much that even having listened to it dozens of times, if not more than a hundred, i have to discover hidden underneath the layers of that song Live That Long. There is much to be said about the care one must take when discussing life and death, and the song has inspired me on many levels for creating my own story and art and life because we dont live that long. My life is richer because it has these songs and you guys in it so thank you.
