I'm guessing the interviewer has not listened to their music. Their sound does not resemble Keane or Maroon 5 at all....

Jeremiah Squier well I guess I should have listened better, but yes, still waaay off. They do not sound like Ween either :)
when maroon 5 and keane first came out they sounded nothing like what they do now.
like many other bands there is no guarantee if they would write songs they like or end up writing disposable commercial music that makes instant money after attaining recognition.
quality music are often made by musicians for those which appreciate music nowadays but that does not make a lot of money. commercial stuff which tend to be shallow does.
