    I was in that car park in September 2023. I spoke to a traffic warden and asked if I needed to pay for two tickets as my 7.3m van over hung the parking space behind me. This is what he said . And I quote “ if all four of your wheels are within the lines of a parking space, regardless of any overhang, you are legally parked and you only have to pay for one ticket” Having given me this information he then guided me into the space, gave me a thumbs up and left.

    Been to Skye a couple of times. Rain is mostly what I remember!
    Last time we stayed at Camping Skye which is a community run campsite in Broadford. Nice site, very friendly and five minutes walk to the shops. Motorhomes (so many rentals) parked for the day or night in random places around Broadford and other places that we just didn’t fancy ‘wild camping’ in the end.
    Left Skye on the ferry to Mallaig which was fun. Lovely but very busy town, Mallaig looks like the middle of nowhere on the map but obviously a lot of people get there. Quite a big road back to Fort William past the Harry Potter (Glenfinnan) viaduct.

    Lovely vlog again but my goodness how Skye has changed. We used to go up that way all the time on holiday
    Last time I was at the Old Man there were no cars or car park and the paths were just scrapes in the heather!
    Portree was always a lovely town with a great chippy and parking was free
    I really don’t think that level of tourism is sustainable. The island can’t cope with it
    Fascinating to see, thank you both and safe travels ❤❤.

    Oh we have a 7.6m motorhome and no issues in the outers or anywhere in Scotland. The only thing we’ve ever failed in ever was the fairy pools on Skye. We have dragged our van round every road imaginable no issues (despite me screaming at times’. The fairy pools though it was raining and we couldn’t manage the hill.
    Outers though no issue at all anywhere xx

      I think the warden in Portree wouldn’t hesitate if any part was outside the bay , he had issued quite a few and seemed very pleased too 😬

    Portree has been an issue for a few years. They are absolutely appalling those wardens.
    We watched them hiding behind a car waiting for motorhomes to park in the minibus section. As soon as the people left the car park he walked over and ticketed them. Feels a deliberate act to get as much as possible.
    I’m all for considerate parking but this was sneaky and money grabbing.
    We avoid the area now completely which is a shame as we loved nipping in Portree as we were passing. We often had lunch and bought groceries. But no more.

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  Месяц назад +3

      The warden did seem to be driven in issuing as many as possible , people do make mistakes , a friendly chat would be helpful, but I would imagine it’s unfortunately easy pickings for them … a lovely town though 🙂

    • @DeansGoTravelling
      @DeansGoTravelling Месяц назад +1

      That is shocking! It can be really hard parking a big van in a place you don’t know, a situation made more stressful when you know a parking warden is just waiting to fine you instead of being helpful. For a place that relies so heavily on tourists for income, that’s a nasty way to treat them. Don’t think I’ll be visiting!

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  Месяц назад +1

      @DeansGoTravelling it’s not nice at all , and so easy to make an honest mistake 🙁

      Surely the wardens are there to prevent issues with a deterrent - they should be advising people not being underhand to catch people after the fact

    Hi both, I'm binging your videos as I'm in full research mode and you are fantastic resource! We're saving for our first motorhome and having seen yours I've started looking at the Globebus range. You've opened my eyes because I thought A classes would all be too big to drive on a standard licence. It seems like a cracking range of mohos in a compact size and they do one in the range with a rear lounge which we'd really like. Really interesting to hear you say you wouldnt want to try these roads in something bigger and I agree. I did the NC500 in a rental moho years ago (before the NC500 was called that!) and we saw larger motorhomes really struggling, running aground, scraping sides etc.
    Can I ask you about the bed over the cab in your motorhome? Is it a double or a king or inbetween (140cm ish)? I'm a night time fidget and a double tends to result in my poor husband getting accidentally kicked in the night.
    Does your solar panel keep enough power going that you dont need to worry about the fridge? Can use your air fryer without being on shore power?
    Thanks so much, really enjoying all your budget tips too!

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  Месяц назад

      Good afternoon ! So glad to hear you are enjoying the vlogs 🙂❤️ really appreciate the lovely comments.. our globebus is the i5 , 2011 model, it really suits us so well, we did a review quite a while back that you may have seen 🙂 the bed is in between a double and a king , and is very comfortable 🙂👌
      We run the fridge on gas when not on hookup, and it’s really good, we run the air fryers from powerbanks as they are 240volts , when not on hook up you only have 12 volts unless you have an inverter 🙂 the air fryers are excellent, we also have a omnia oven, which is a great bit of kit too.
      Ref Solar, when the sun shines and is high up , the recharge time is very quick with our two panels, but low sun and cloud reduces the recharge, so we also have foldable solar panels too 🙂❤️
      Hope that helps, lovely to have you on board , just message or comment and we’d be happy to help ! Hopefully you’ll be on your travels soon ❤️🙂

    What was wrong with that van in the corner. If I had paid for the parking and had got a ticket. I would be well piss#d off. I find motorhome's, over hanging the bays two feet each way more annoying.

    • @redsgotravels
      @redsgotravels  Месяц назад

      In our view nothing was wrong with the van in the corner, however the bays for parking in are numbered and are clearly marked with white lines , the van wasn’t in a marked bay … a bit harsh considering they had a ticket 😬 the bays are quite small , so we were extra careful where we parked , but our Moho is only 6.3 Metres , so we are not too bad 🙂
