Hey guys, I speak Japanese and Dan asked for a translation so I translated this for you guys.
Just a forewarning, this game does not wrap up most of the storylines it sets up and takes giant leaps in the plot from scene to scene so…here we go 👍
(Also, I’m just gonna give you some quick back story because the game doesn’t give it to you before it starts, but from context from the cutscenes you can figure out that the set up of the story is that Camus, the Dalmatian like dog and the first dancer, used to have a relationship of some sort with Sarah, the main girl dog, but he left one day without saying anything and now she’s sad and alone. And also now Johnny wants to get with Sarah. Wow, I can’t believe I’m typing this so seriously)
First cutscene 8:34 :
Essentially sarah is complimenting Johnny for practicing by himself and says she likes people who work hard and Johnny says, “oh, so you’re talking about Camus again?” Implying that who she really likes is Camus (the first Dalmatian like dog) and not him. She then backs away assumedly because he hit the nail on the head (I can’t believe I’m seriously translating this).
Second cutscene (between Johnny and Beth) 27:10 :
Johnny is asking Beth if she thinks Sarah still likes Camus and she says she doesn’t know. Johnny gets upset saying that he just doesn’t understand Sarah and what she’s thinking. Beth then recommends that he and Sarah have a long conversation about it together to figure out where they stand.
Third cutscene (between Sarah and the two twins) 31:58 :
They show up to Sarah’s dressing room excited about johnnys performance and saying how cool he is and how great that he and Sarah would be together. Sarah has a sad reaction to this and the twins call her out asking, “are you still hung up on Camus?”. She then looks at a picture of him without answering.
Fourth cutscene (with Johnny, Camus and Sarah) 35:58 :
Johnny gets mad at Camus and says, “you’ve come back so nonchalantly after all this time. Don’t you have anything to say?!” and he grabs Camus. Sarah then stops Johnny saying that it doesn’t matter anymore. Camus then says “Sarah…”.
Fifth cutscene (with Camus and Sarah on stage) 39:29 :
Camus says the reason he left was because he wanted to know what the outside world was like. He says the reason he didn’t tell Sarah he was leaving was because he didn’t want to expose her to any danger (whatever the fuck that means, sounds like an excuse to me but aight). He then apologizes to Sarah for making her feel lonely and asks for her forgiveness. She then cries. Camus then goes on a long rant about how the world out there is way more free than this place and that they’re all trapped here. He says that they should all leave and go together. He says he came back to get Sarah and bring her with him and Sarah gets up and hugs him. Everyone applauds (what the fuck is happening).
That’s essentially how it ends. It’s super fucking abrupt and doesn’t resolve any story lines and I can’t believe that I just spent so much time translating this furry’s wet dream/fever dream.
Edit: also I didn’t think this was important at first because it’s not relevant to the plot but Arin didn’t fully read the word bubble at the end so I thought I could just translate it real quick. The text bubble that pops up at the end says “you can now select the ‘model type’ via the options”. What does that mean? Who could possibly know
thank you so much for your effort, my dude, it’s all clear now
Dude thank u for your service
That's hilarious! Thanks for going through the trouble, you're doing the lords work 🤣
@@yantarnii7960 no problem but even if you understand the cutscenes I still am not sure any human can comprehend this story fully 😂

I haven't heard dan this exasperated since carbunkles ate themselves
@@namelessliberty9869 I knew a girl in high school who was that kind of furry, but considered it an entirely different thing, so you are correct I guess.
Starting now I declare the normal humans with light animal accessories shall be called Fu-Fus
@@namelessliberty9869 You're kemonomimi, this game is Cats, and past that is just different levels of simply furry.
There shouldn't even a be a word for ONE kind of furry, because jsut like anime, people only use it to make excuses like not credit japan for actually just making the best cartoons.
Like "no no no, it's different, these are anniemays, not cartoons". And when people DO acknowledge it, they MEAN just the bottom-tier shonen stuff, just the same way actually inventive animal cahracters wouldn't and shouldn't be smeared with fursuits and the exact same Lion King eyes over a Balto nose.
Now go watch Hataage! Kemono michi.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that it took several episode for both the Grumps to realized "tab: show dirt" meant if you press tab it shows dirt. But less than 1 episode to understand how to play a game that is explained in another language.

Id say finally they can watch “Cats” Together! But Dan has already seen each dance…
Though I would LOVE to see a GrumpOut or Grumps that has Arin rewatch this so we can get his reaction
This game was 100% pitched as "capitalizing on the popularity of Cats", but really they knew they were making a game for furries.
Depending on the version there are like three whole cats wearing clothes in that
Release the butthole cut!
Last night, when I put on my cat ears and got ready for my show at the Amazon warehouse in Lincoln, Nebraska, I really thought my career tanked. But hearing Dan say he went through the same thing at 30, it really lifted me out of that hole.
Sounds like something that would happen in downtown Lincoln
Amazon? I thought this was an abandoned K-Mart turned into a cabaret club!
"I thought this was a new development in our culture" Dan, honey the first ever furry convention was in _1989_ and to even have it means there were furries before that. I like to imagine this game is a result of someone watching Cats and going "Great show, but there weren't enough dogs."
That guttural 'Oh nooooo' at the beginning is the sure sign of an amazing episode.
Arin: 'Dalmation Action'
Dan: 'Don't say it like that...'
I love that the intro gave Dan some kind of furry existential crisis, he's just sliding faster and faster into it ain't he
Danny: "...Wait?! This is what furry means?!? No no no I want out. I want off this ride."
ARIN SCARED ME: Hironobu Kageyama the singer of the dball tunes is still alive. the composer of the bgm's for dbz was the one who passed: shunsuke kikuchi
Same. I was like, wait, I'm pretty sure he's alive but maybe he died like this week and somehow I didn't hear about it.
Yeah. I was tripping out for a minute. Had to look it up. He’s too iconic to not have heard that.
He’s also done both seasons of One Punch Man’s themes, although they’re not listed on his Wikipedia page
They added 5 years to his life
Maybe he read the news about the Latin American singer of the dbz opening dying and somehow didn't read the part where it said the nationality? Rip to the goat btw, great voice and my childhood
Ngl, teared up a little when Dan told little bit about his Dad at old show of his

How do we get him to see the graph?
I have not seen a graph that explains it thoroughly, but from I can gather the scale goes like this(from least to most human):
Feral(the animal itself)
Upright
Anthropomorphic
Standard furry
Semi-furry(maybe)
Kemonomimi(Japanese for animal ears)
Human
Is it the one that goes from dangerously furry to dangerously cheesy cause that’s the only one I know

Too furry for humans and too human for furries.
I mean...they're at least part human, and part animal, so that counts! ;)
No, this is nekomimi, it's not furry. The difference is easy to spot: furries are animals with human features, nekomimi is humans with animal features. These are clearly humans with animal features.

0:48 Dan is correct actually. That kind of a "furry" is called a kemonomimi. Which is kinda in the Grey area of being a furry
Just FYI, the guy who composed most of Dragon Ball and Z's music, Shunsuke Kikuchi, is the one who died recently. Not Kageyama Hironobu, the guy who sang most of the DB/Z theme songs with the iconic voice Arin recognized.
20:21 as a furry gilf/dilf enthusiast, i am proud to say that it is I that is the audience for this.
This is one of those "the artists was too afraid to go down the line between animal and human" and we're left with these hybrid anomalies.
You mean atrocities
I thought it was meant to resemble the Cats theatre actor style.
@@emstink It definitely reminds me of that. I think that because they used mo-capped dancers and were a small team in the early PS2 days they were a bit limited with what they could accomplish with the art style, though I personally would've appreciated if they gave more characters dog-like faces like they did with Vincent and sort of did with Paul.
For Dan's edification, the word for this type of furry is "Kemonomimi."
I thought Arin would be familiar with the term, but he didn't say anything. D:
Yep was about to comment it but saw you already did
It's not correct though. Kemonomimi is specific to animal ears and tail, this is one step further as they have fur pattern but with the whole body including the nose being human. This is past kemonomimi, more into Cats territory, just before being a spectrum of what everyone would agree is a furry.
@@Leongon its like Oddly humanoid… i guess… thats the only term i can think of
@@Leongon To me, the women in the game fall pretty squarely into kemonomimi, whereas the men they gave more animal features.
Oh my gosh I can't believe how much of a sweetheart Dan's dad is. This is a guy who, I believe, fought in the Yom Kippur war; but he sounds like the gentlest man out there.
Is it me or does this game look kind of amazing for a game from 2000? I mean particularly those character models.
Totally! And the movement also is super impressive
@@vogelvrouw I think this was around the time when motion capture started to become common in games.
I was scrolling for the comments for this! Their movements are very natural
For comparison, Banjo-Tooie came out on N64 only a month earlier (this game came out December 12th, 2000). Very different kinds of games, but just graphically yeah this is pretty good for the time.
Well when the system doesn't have to render pretty much anything but the characters I leaves a lot of room for good graphics. I mean look at Teklen 4 that came out a year later on the dame console.
Arin: Are you all saying “Booooooo” or “Mooooooo-urns”?
Crowd: 4:17
Dan: I was saying “Moo-urns”
As a game, it’s pretty typical of its genre, though with significant problems. There are four jewels at the bottom of the screen, each mapped to the Up/Down and Triangle/Cross buttons on the controller. When a jewel lights up, you press the corresponding button, but you’re only given about a second to react. The interface is also remarkably cluttered, with a pulsing heart that matches the rhythm, as well as musical notes and other wavy patterns that don’t seem to do much other than distract you. And due to its location on the screen, it’s difficult to match the rhythm while watching the dance number, which almost seems to eliminate the point.
And that’s a shame, because these little productions sure are something. Despite the initial weirdness, the characters are all rendered with color cel-shading, and the motion captured dance routines look excellent, especially for an early PlayStation 2 release.
I'm fairly sure the jewels are basically red herrings. And you should instead be looking just at the sides of the screens for the blue notes. When they near the end you press the button mapped to left/right and up/down, corresponding to that note. It's a bit cluttered, but it doesn't seem that bad.
This is taken straight from the article about hard obscure Japanese games I just looked up
@@rowcla The jewels help you get the timing right with the flashes, the blue notes/waves are your actual note map, the heart in the middle is a visual metronome and the note bubbles are forewarning for upcoming notes with left/right but no up/down information.
Most visual elements have a purpose, they just look cluttered and contrived.
This is why "viewer" mode exists.
Oh god, them applying house pet logic to furry characters is slaying me 🤣 Just imagining them doing things that are so distinctively pet dog behaviors is destroying my lungs.
I want a 10 minute power hour where they attend a furry con in high quality partials, like Mff or something, and go to the dance competition
A multi episode series would be great. Like they use some stupid game to design their fursonas, go learn from a dance teacher and/or mascot performer, and then end up at a fursuit dance contest.
God they’d get DESTROYED lmao furries can dance like no one’s business
yes
No, we do NOT need to see those people(?).
@Philip K i feel like furries would be a bit allergic to that, and feel like they were stealing the spotlight from the dealen]rs den haha. It would need to be covert
As someone who worked as a pet supply store their jests about dog toys and treats was quite amusing to me
Sorry Dan. I couldn't really make out what they were saying over you two yammering, but at the end the dalmatian guy was giving a speech about how everyone needed to leave and go explore the outside world and how it might not be a dangerous as they think.

Dan the different types of furries you wanted is called Furry Scale. Scale meaning measurement, not... lizard scales. So anime cat-girls are a 1 on the furry scale, and the animal itself is a 5.

If that isn't on Danny's tombstone, I will be greatly disappointed. 😂
I am loving the turnover rate from Dan being the channel furry to Arin. Each must serve their time.
Honestly, I want Arin to set up a Bloody Roar game, but tell Dan nothing about it, not let Dan see any of the cutscenes, and see if he can hide the fact that it's a furry game until Arin's character turns into a bunny girl mid-fight.
Ah, a classic "Arin what is this???" episode.

I think one of my favourite things is Dan and Arin legit thinking "Mh, this character would take care of me financially"
From the Bad Boys game, we know they're using an emulator, so it's probably an emulation issue that's causing the results screen to never appear...hope that gets fixed at some point, this honestly seems like a fun one to try out.
Arin is experiencing what Danny had to go through with dragons lair not able to see any the game lol
Man, they’ve really brought the wolf job meme full circle
For anyone still having trouble picking up how this game works (because it took me forever):
The grey round notes are telling you what rhythm and on which side the next sequence of notes is going to be. The blue notes are the sequence of notes you have to press with the flashing gems. The gem flashes when the blue notes get to an imaginary line near the edge of the screen. The direction of the stem on the blue note tells you which gem is going to flash.
I'm kinda blown away by the motion capture though. I didn't realize we had motion capture like this 22 years ago.
I got awakened by Dan talking about how he reads about people being awakened by things

This is a bizarre cross of actual ‘Furry’ looking characters (uncanny because of the human head shapes) and just catgirl/catboy people. 😂😭
In the intro (and sarah's song) I instantly recognize the beautiful voice of Minako Honda, an amazing singer who started as a solo idol in the 80's and had an amazing career.
Sadly she died of leukimia in 2005 at the age of 38. Still miss her.
Isn't it weird that people call Dan a furry even though all the furry games are Arin's idea
Another treasure in the ‘Dan’s a furry’ archive
And the 'Arin is DEFINITELY a furry' archive
Girls with only animal ears and tails are pretty much the limit before it's considered furry, I think. Here they still have human body, including human face and nose, but have fur and like animal nose painted... I'd say this is one step into furry, past kemonomimi. I hate this style haha. Gimme full furry or back off and keep it with only ears and tail.
This is pretty much standard kemonomimi actually, right down to all the not main male characters being more animal than everyone else.
Nope. Standard kemonomimi is tails and ears, with big part of the attractiveness of it being that the body is human skin, specially the face, and you can push it by giving claws and teeth. Here you have fur covered bodies including animal nose paint over the human nose, this is Cats, right in the uncanny valley between kemonomimi and furry, where it's unsettling for both.
How can being more human possibly be less sexy?!
Man, Dan was on fire with his jokes in this episode
I personally want them to play Star Fox Adventures one day, that'll make my life
I hope at somepoint they could play one of the (very few) actual unironically good ones. Considering how many furries either are software engineers or work in some form of creative industry, it kinda makes sense.
I hope some day they take a look at Changed. It's so obviously a furry fetish game, but the puzzle mechanics are fun and the plot is genuinely compelling. It would make for quite the roller coaster of a play-through, even if just for one or two episodes.
yes!! so many fantastic furry artists and game developers, they deserve the spotlight
Honestly I'd love for them to play something like Brok or Backbone or even a furry adjacent game (as in not made by furries) like Night in the Woods.
I'm still waiting for the sly cooper episode they promised like 9 years ago.
Also I would love to see chicken police, (although it's a bit weird with the uncanny valley real pictures of animals on real pictures of people)
I've heard angel's with scales is a really good dateing game with a good story.
They're playing so many furry games. They should do the sly cooper series
Dan "2000?? This was going on in 2000?"
Fun fact, the furry fandom proper started in 1984. However, anthro characters existed in multiple cultures throughout history. Hell, America even saw a sort of furry thing in the 1920s. Neat info is neat.
Dan saying “Take your pills” actually reminded me to take my pills, thank you Dan ❤️

Hello Arin and Dan, thanks for making me laugh so hard every day. I especially love Dan asking “What is this Arin?” and saying “Oh no” lmfao
Is it weird that I want to see the elderly dog man perform Tradition from Fiddler on the Roof?
If it's weird, I don't wanna be normal.
The Dragonball guy's voice clicked for me the first time I heard him sing "Cha La!" now if only there was a modded version of this game where they dance to Baka Mitai.
You know, for a game from 2000, with motion capture and CGI, this really isn't that bad.
Like, there are worse looking/playing big budget titles from that year.
This is one of the best one shot episodes you guys have done lol
I think what Dan was looking for in the beginning is the distinction between Anthro/Anthropomorphic furry (like Zootopia or Disney's Robin Hood) and Kemonomimi furry (like this game)
Kemonomimi isn't even furry though
Vincent looks like he is right out of Sherlock hound
This is Cats level of furry
this game actually looks really good for its time and is full of style. yeah, the character designs are a bit questionable and the gameplay looks... like it does... but still, i like the vibe
Good for its time? Katamari Damacy, MGS2 and Legend of Mana would like a word.
@@antonlowe5370 all of those games are entirely different styles to this though.
Same here. I'd be all over a rhythm game like this that looked like it played better. I'd also prefer if they made the characters more "furry" style, but... I can deal.
23:45 I believe the literary point of the briefcase in Pulp Fiction that it isn't something specific at all. It is anything and everything. The king of all maguffins because it is whatever you want it to be. Gold, Drugs, Cash, Nuke Codes, The Answer to Life, A blank will of a billionaire that signed his name but didn't fill it out who gets what, A shiny first gen Charizard pokemon card, The Ultimate Sandwich, a fully stocked Infinity Gauntlet, the skies the limit with what is and isn't in that briefcase.
It was the corrupting greed of the maguffin that was the point. It is something in there that would be worth killing over. The item inside doesn't matter as much as its influence on those around it, like the One Ring, except the one ring actually has a stated uses, it can multiply a creature's power and presence in the realm. It can bestow directly measurable power. That and it isn't internalized greed that corrupts with it, but rather a force of evil and hatred from the ring itself.
It is supposed to be an item so grand that traditional social hierarchy fails and only the most ironclad of relationships even stand a chance of surviving the crashing waves of greed. So to answer the question for Dan, what is in the briefcase? What would you kill another man over? What personal gain would you consider worth a murder? How about several murders on your hands?
i kept opening discord thinking I was getting messages , and I realized it was the notes when Arin hit the button. I feel dumb
