🚨 Why did Fredo betray the Corleone family? And what led Michael to make the decision to kill his own brother? Watch the video below for all the explanations. ruclips.net/video/UvCAB5GDYEY/видео.html
Sure Michael figured it out. Put yourself in his position. One of your men from your criminal organization (who was never given and never asked to broker a peace deal or truce) comes to you and tells you that the boss of the other criminal organization (that your at war with) wants to meet and broker a truce. You wouldn't ask yourself "who told this motherfucker to set up a meet? How was he not killed when he spoke to them? We are at war, I expected him to have murder "our rivals" the second he crossed paths with them?
Thank you so much!! I saw your comment just when I clicked the comment line to say exactly what you said. How they overlooked and skipped the one most important element in the whole substory; beats me!
Vito: "Whoever comes to you with the Barzini meeting is the traitor." Michael didn't figure it out. He was told who the traitor would be. Still he might have...probably would have because he was really smart.
Michael was the one who knew Solozzo would never stop trying to kill the Don. Tom Hagen thought they shoud negotiate a truce after killing Bruno Tattaglia. Michael was ahead of Tom and Sonny, he knew the truce offer was a trap. Michael was already well-versed in betrayal when his bodyguard tried to kill hiim in Sicily. He was never going to fall for Tessio's trick. He saw through Barzini just like he saw through Solozzo. And he wanted revenge for Sonny, he wasn't going to make a truce with Barzini.
Tessio got impatient. Vito had promised that he and Clemenza could start their own “families”. Michael told them that they had to wait until he solidified the Corleone’s situation. Clemenza accepted this, Tessio didn’t, and underestimated Michael
It has always amazed me that every character, at least in the films, seemed to ignore or completely forget that Michael was a Marine Corp Captain and decorated WW2 combat commander. This training and experience would make him a formidable strategist as well as a man who would be willing to attack and destroy his enemies and demand complete loyalty from his subordinates
The plan was to look weak “on purpose”. After Vito compromised so he could bring Michael back from Italy, he and Michael continued to look “weak” as a strategy to sniff out the traitors as well as to set up the final assassinations. Vito was the one that advised Michael on the situation
Like Michael said “It’s the smart move”. Tessio was always the smart one. Unfortunately Michael was smarter and way ahead of him. He also had the benefit of his fathers wisdom.
I think it was his father who alerted him to the betrayal. It was his fathers wisdom that alerted Michael that the betrayal would happen, after that, Michael then knew to be on guard.
But that is only part of it. Don Vito wouldn't be there to counsel Michael forever. Tessio had to bet on who would win after Vito died, Barzini or Michael. He bet his life on Barzini. That was a mistake. He should have stayed neutral and waited for the dust to clear.
There's an old, but famous quote from the 1500s book by Machiavelli, titled "The Prince." The quote is as follows: "When you go after the king, you must kill him on the first effort, because if you don't, he will come back with overwhelming force and kill you." Or words to that effect. Tessio went after Michael, but failed to kill him with his first effort, and per Machiavelli's prediction, Michael came back with him with overwhelming force and killed HIM.
Love the brilliance of how you don’t see tessio getting taken out it so leaves it up to the imagination i wonder if they just took him out Or gave him a long death with a lot of torture
*In the scene where Vito is talking to Michael in the garden, he tells him directly that whoever comes to him with a deal from Barzini is the traitor. There is nothing to "figure out." His father has told him directly who the traitor will be.*
Actually, it was Don Vito Corleone who advised Michael that whosoever approaches Michael for a meeting with Barzini to forge peace is the traitor. Herein, it speaks volumes about Michaels mental and emotional depth on the way he handles Tessio.
Tessio really screwed the pooch. 1. He was there when Vito took command over him and Clemenza with a bold plan to wipe out Don Fanucci. 2. Tessio was there when Michael did the same thing, taking command from Sonny and Tom with the bold plot to kill Solozzo. That should have reminded him of Vito's move against Fanucci. 3. On top of everything, Michael still had Vito as his Wartime Consiglieri. To think that he could fool Michael and Vito combined was suicidally stupid. Michael said it was a 'smart move' but it really wasn't.
You failed to mention his father Vito had warned Micheal that the person who approaches him for a meeting with the enemy would be the traitor which ended up being Tecio. Michael hiding out in Sicily also helped prepare him to be the new DON
Maybe the sparks from an offscreen fire were laid on top of this video so that RUclips's algorithms would have just that much more trouble automatically detecting Godfather copyright violations? I dunno, just a thought?
@@SlicerJen I see a lot of bootleg movie footage on RUclips videos that have been flipped from left to right. Some I notice this because I'm familiar with a scene and know it is backwards. Other times it's even more obvious because a written word like a stop sign will be backward or an American car will have its steering wheel on the passenger side etc.
what are you talking about? the godfather expressly warned michael that whoever approached him for a meeting--tessio or clemenza--was the traitor and he would be killed at that meeting.
The fact that Michael rose to the rank of Captain (O-3), in the USMC, during ww2, n was decorated for valor in the Pacific theater- defines Michael's leadership abilities. And is mostly overlooked by characters, n audience. Every word inked by Puzo plays a role in character development. The man was master of his craft.
Correct...this video doesn't give Vito any credit....but if I remember right, it was Michael's father who spent weeks, months, prepping his son for this betrayal.
You miss the point. Tessio was calculating what would happen after the Don dies. Without the Don, Tessio thought Barzini would eat Michael for breakfast. That's not what happened. Tessio bet his life on the wrong horse and died for his mistake.
That is not the point of the video and it has nothing to do with his mistake. His mistake was assuming that Michael was not going to be aware that he was a traitor when he came to him about the meeting with Barzini. Michael was aware this was a plot because Vito explicitly told him to watch out for it. Vito was also the one who figured out it was Barzini pulling the strings
You say so much about Tessio and the betrayal without metioning the most critical lead of the whole thing: Vito telling to Michael "Whoever comes to you with the Barzini meeting is the traitor." ?! You couldn't be dumber than that, but dare make this clip?
That is not the most critical lead. The most critical lead is what happens after the Don dies? Tessio figured Michael wouldn't stand a chance against Barzini. You say Vito counseled Michael. You forget that Vito also counseled Tessio. "Do you trust my judgement?" Vito told Tessio that Michael would beat Barzini after Vito was gone. Tessio didn't take that advice and died for his mistake.

Vito told Michael that who propose a meeting is a traitor. Michael didn't figured it out on his own.
He must have gotten up to pee during that scene 😂🤣😂🤣😂
@berink5992 is right and the poster is totally wrong. Vito told Micheal who the traitor would be.

As a parting gift Vito TOLD Michael what would happen…and he was right.

Tessio should have known Michael wasn’t weak, after Michael took out Sollatzo.

I agree, this narrator gives Michael a bit to much credit.

Always wondered why Michael was shown by Clemenza how to use a gun when he was a decorated serviceman?
@@jbradley538 Very good point. I forgot about that
Also him hiding away in Italy for over a year groomed him for mafia leadership
Tessio went into Witness Protection Program with the NYPD.
Went by the name Detective FISH @ the 12 th Precinct.

Weird how Tom couldn’t see through Tessio

I think Tesso also didn't consider Michael's military experience. He faced life and death situation in World War II, and he learned about leadership.
Also his time away in Italy also exposed him to Mafia rules and regulations and Sicilian ways and mindsets.
Fredo learned this lesson as well in the end.
I think also, Michael is young, so has to establish a reputation.
