I'm from Finland. A bit over 20 years ago I dated a girl whose father owned a cottage in Levi. Every year while we were dating we visited Levi. Loved the place. As a student with minimal income I could only dream about going to Levi because the accomondation at that time was definitely out of reach for me financially. As a guy who loves to ski those days we spent in Levi was about the best days I spent with her. Now she's my wife with kids. Still visiting the same cottage a couple of times a year annually. :)
That is such a beautiful story!! And a beautiful place to visit annually! It is such a lovely town and place to ski! We wish you guys all the happiness. Thanks for watching :)
Levi is the name of the fell (a hill without trees on top) and also of the resort. The center of the resort is the village of Sirkka (permanent population of c. 600). All this belongs to the municipality of Kittilä (total pop. c. 6,600. The center of Kittilä is the Church village (pop. c. 2,300), which is 17 km South from Levi. None of those places are cities or even towns.
Levi is real play ground for all kind and age of people. Been there almost 30 times and on the week 11 Levi is calling us again! It always feels like getting back home. The pistes are amazing and the place in general is a definition of word "COZY". You can make a holiday of your liking. You can have peaceful time there or party like hell. Kids are also very well noticed.
Tips: 1) go and ski South Point, will be the perfect fit. You can also take the ski bus there 2) for real Saami food and experience, go to Saamen Kammi restaurant, the best. Also Lost Tacos has the best Baja Fish Tacos in Finland and 3) make sure that you DO NOT miss the Levi Spa and its outdoor pools.
Most people who go to Levi probably stay in a rented cottage. So the area is actually much bigger than the center where the hotels/shops/restaurants are.
Yeah rhe "greater Levi" is surprisingly big, google says the resort can accommodate 24,000 people, mostly in cabins. Finns come later in spring typically, more day light and still plenty of snow. The resort actullly store snow over the short summer for the next season, so the slopes are ready for the World Cup in November.
In Levi there is middle of November Women’s alpine skiing (slalom) Word Cup competition and it’s first competition for every season. You are definately right place… if you want to experience real winter.
In addition to Ylläs, there is another gorgeous slope about 40 mins drive away: Pallas is the most iconic place for skiing in Lapland and has most beautiful scenery, but has only 2 lifts and one old hotel (as it's in a national park). It opens in mid-February for week 8 when the school holidays begin. The busy weeks in Lapland ski resorts are from week 8 to the end of April, before that it's very quiet apart from world cup in Levi. Before week 8 the day is very short, but in April it's very long and it may also get very sunny. Don't bother to visit Pallas in cloudy or snowy days, you need a bit sun to see enough for good skiing! There you also get excellent Finnish food in the hotel restaurant (in the dinner time = about after 5 p.m.). Avoid school holiday weeks 8 - 9 in Levi and Ylläs, they're horribly crowded then! Pallas is never crowded:).
That sounds great, Jacob would love that, I would for sure hold him back since skiing in Levi is my first time ever! Thanks for watching and for that great information :)
Actually Ylläs about 45km is much bigger. Bigger Mountain (tunturi) and much longer slopes. But Levi is really nice. My habbit is to go Levi for one week (some partys) and then real skiing in Ylläs. Ylläs is way bigger than Levi.
Kotipizza is a Finnish pizza restaurant chain, the only nationwide chain in Finland, so it was a great choice in terms of Finnish culture 😉 But kebab-pizzeria places are also super common. You might've seen the Berlusconi pizza on the menu, a pizza with reindeer and chanterelles, which won the America's Plate International pizza contest in NYC in 2008.
The kiddie slopes seem like just the right amount of danger. We apply the hot hands right to our face too. Yea, used to buttermilk white ranch; so that's different. Pizza is always a good idea!
Practical way to see the whole Levi area is to take the willage bus roundtour. It is cheap way and the bus starts and ends tour in front of the Levi slope.
You are now so close to the Swedish border that you could travel back in time a little and visit that side as well. Looking forward to it, do you even notice when the country changes
hey guys! love your finland series :) just wanna ask do you all think renting a car is necessary to get around levi? my fiancé and i will be there in february for 3days2nights
Yay we are so happy you enjoyed it! We didn't find that we needed a car at all since the public transportation is great! But if you want to go off the beaten track then it is always best to get a car!
Kotipizza has a special contract with one of the biggest dairy product company in Finland so that they have their own pizza cheese made. And for business perspective, thats fucking geinous, because their cheeese is SO DELICIOUS
Hahaha we grew up in the desert so we aren't use to things touching our necks all the time and it really bothers us! We have worn scarves but it didn't seem to make much of a difference for us :) thanks for watching!

Where's the best place to rent ski and do lessons for family of 4 with small kids (on a budget)

I just love the snow covered pines, like you said winter wonderland!
The snow covered trees are just so gorgeous!! True winter wonderland!

Before you go downhill skiing you have to try crosscountry skiing. It´s the perfect workout!
We are planning on cross country skiing as well! It looks so fun! Thanks for the tip :)

That sounds awesome! We are loving it so much, it really is the perfect winter destination! Thanks so much for watching :)
We have hills (mäki), hills (kukkula), hills, (tunturi) but no mountains (vuori). Those are in order of size, from smallest to largest.
It is the perfect place to learn how to ski!! Thanks for watching :)

It is a wonderful place! Thanks for watching :)
We just set up our first snow skiing adventure for our trip to Lapland. Looks beautiful. Nice job once again.
That is so exciting!! We hope you have the best time! :) and thank you!!
If you wanna do more backcountry/off-piste skiing then I would suggest for Pyhä or Ylläs. Levi is a good place for place for tourists and newbies.
That sounds great, Jacob would love that, I would for sure hold him back since skiing in Levi is my first time ever! Thanks for watching and for that great information :)
No no, Pallas is where you would go for the backcountry. And it's not even close.
Levi is where the slalom world cup season for women is started, then it is quite crowded.
That is so interesting and good to know! Thanks so much for your comment :)
1.02 mins in i see my airbnb ground floor apartment i have booked for December because i watched your videos of Levi 😊
That is so awesome!! ❄️ thanks for watching!
i will literally be there in 2 days cant wait
That's so exciting! We hope you have the best time :)

Ylläs is bigger physically. It is higher and bit more vertical difference but Levi has more pistes and lifts.
See you Levi in February. nice video by the way.
Thanks so much :)

Hahaha oh good!! The pizza was delicious! We did see that pizza on the menu and almost got it!! Thanks for your comment :)
Actually there is also Classic Pizza that is even better than Kotipizza :P
The kiddie slopes seem like just the right amount of danger. We apply the hot hands right to our face too. Yea, used to buttermilk white ranch; so that's different. Pizza is always a good idea!
I totally agree!! The hot hands on the face is a life saver haha!! We could probably eat pizza every day🤪
I've seen those hand towel devices for decades and I'm still confused.
Hahaha! We are glad we aren't the only ones! Thanks for watching :)
You should Absolut visit the Levi Spa
We will check it out!! Thanks for your comment :)
I totally second that. You absolutely MUST go, especially the outside pools.
Practical way to see the whole Levi area is to take the willage bus roundtour. It is cheap way and the bus starts and ends tour in front of the Levi slope.

We were right next to the border on the drive over!! We wanted to hop off the bus and go cross it! Hopefully we will get the chance to! :)
@@JacobandJennyTravel
Be careful because the border guards might offer you coffee and it's pretty tarry.
Now I’m so proud that my name is Levi 😂
