66. Ex investment banker and still learn from james although in my world borrowing against assets like BTC or, even, TSLA in any material sense is, IMHO, unwise. There is a small but significant risk of wipeout.

How do you pay the loan back, that is the question.
typically is a revolving line of ctedit and typically would pay interest only monthly. i can’t think of a bank that would lend on crypto but large cap stock price >$10 and market cap >$1b would get you a loan to value of 50 - 70% at the private banking division of your bank; prolly need a net worth greater than $3M and liquid stock > $1M investable assets

How do u.avoid tax hits w/ pair trading?.. especially if u can’t buy BTC in a retirement acct.. are u doing th btc trade from a diff acct ?
Not sure on other regions but if you're in the UK use a stocks and shares ISA (can contribute upto £20k per year). You can't buy BTC but you can buy MSTR and TSLA.

I had a _'Mircosoft Rep'_ call me, over 2 decades ago, about supposed issues, on my PC, that they had detected, via remote access. Some Indian guy, I just played along, for 1/2 hour an hour, or so, until I got bored. Then, I asked him how _'Mircorsoft'_ had gotten into my PC as I have _all_ the remote access settings shut down? I could hear his brain ticking over; then just hung up 🤣🤣🤣🤣

James… you say that you always overpay taxes to reduce the probability of an IRS audit… clarification: do you mean that you deliberately send extra money beyond you owe - - or, rather, that you simply make withholding or prepayments way above what your actual estimated tax liability is… and then of course get the IRS to send you a refund later??
Just thinking about Pair Trading, James, and how that would open me up to paying a huge amount of taxes, especially if I'm back and forth all the time, incurring short term capital gains. That tax loss would decrease my investment cash, and it's interesting to consider what that cash could have made me over time. You didn't really go into that, and how that would offset the benefit somewhat. Oh, and one more thing I thought of ... If we expect Tesla to outperform Btc by 3 times, shouldn't we take that into account, only investing money into Bitcoin if it's so low that it's likely to do a 3x as well? I mean, it might make sense to keep my money on the strongest horse, even if the weaker horse is trading at a little bit of a bargain. Anyway, just thinking things through. Thanks.

One idea; Move your stock IRA money or some of it into a crypto IRA account like ITrust Capital. You can buy and sell swap your crypto as much as you like eithin the account as long as tou dont remove it from tje fund.

It’s easy when you know what assets have done in the last two weeks. No one knows when Tesla or bitcoin will pop. You say this yourself many times. If it’s hard to nail bottoms then it’s even harder to play pairs of assets and ride one asset up hoping the other drops simultaneously.
