I don't think the average person appreciates how special your collection of macro algae is. Thanks for sharing your expertise and knowledge, in this area.
@@EverydayAquarist Hi. I am looking to setup a macro algae tank. I assume that the way for a macro algae tank to thrive is to do the opposite to what you would a reef tank and keep the nutrient levels high…? Is that right? Thanks for any advice. 👍
amazing productive video, thank you for the algae overview, i got ulva sea lettuce on my rock work and look like bubble algae i had to take the rock out and brush the ulva from the rocks
Hello I'm really interested in growing chaeto on the back of my aio tank. I'm a beginner and on a very small budget. Can I use a normal desk lamp to grow chaeto?
hey man , why do you change your water with all that algae going on ? I added a bunch of Ulva Lactuca that I collected from the sea to a tank infested with hair algae and after 2 week they both disappeared ! any idea why this happened , i did not change anything else .
Hey! Judging by your accent, are you British? I am in Brighton and just starting out on this hobby, I don't see a lot of people in the UK keeping marine tanks though...
If I remember correctly, having a light cycle (some off time) causes asexual reproduction in prolifera.. is that right? So those using it in a fuge keep the lights on 24/7 to prevent spores entering main display. If that is right.. is this the case with any other macros.. like ulva for example?
Not really no. I run a regular light cycle and it doesn't make it go sexual. Stress like running out of nutrition or being overcrowded causes asexual reproduction
What seem to work for some is in the middle of the dark period have a 30 min time with light than turn of the light again as it seems that same than earth plant to go sexual they need a light break minimum from 7-8 hour. I think it is not good to have 24/7 light on, it is absolutely not natural and stress the algae, who now what they release then..
I have been growing Ulva intestinalis Jimmy waterfall ATS for a number of years. IME intestinalis is the Ulva to grow not Lactuca should be avoided. There are reports of Lactuca being far to invasive and hard to get rid of. With intestinalis most tangs will eat it along with many other fish like rabbitfish. I find Ulva intestinalis to be the fastest growing and most efficent algae at consuming nuitrents esp nitrates. I harvest my Ulva weekly and sell it to other aquarists.

Yeah I get odd looks when I tell people I collect seaweed
I love this channel just for this very reason. He has some crazy fuges and I've learned quite a bit from him.

M8 u need 2 start vlogging this shed of yours ! ... This is what will grow it channel ... crazy ... Can't believe we haven't seen this !!
Yeah maybe. I just have a problem with making content that doesn't add any value. Nobody wants to see me do a water change or clean my glass!
I don't even keep saltwater tanks, pure freshwater planted tanks here -- but I found this damn interesting! Upvoted

I love that you have a macro algae/aquarium shed! I wish I could swing that here in Arizona but I think it gets too hot.
Thanks its a little bit weird and people think I'm crazy when I tell them
Great stuff!
Sweet video again mate you got a cool shed 👍👌
Great video
Ulva, Caulerpa, Chaeto and maybe even Gracilaria can be acclimated to high-end brackish tanks.
Interesting
Damn good job....: it’s hard using the sun to “power” your tank....... I tried this once and got too much algae growing everywhere....
CHEE-TO! Thanks for video! Good info!
