I always made sure to watch when they swapped the signs at the end of the year. It was part of my childhood. Never missed one in all the time it was on TV.
Thank You MatchGameProductions for posting these. I remember them from when I was young. They brought back lots of memories & lots of laughs. Now on to '74.
Being the last episode of the year. The Top money givers were 1. Richard 35,300 dollars, 2. Betty 32,850 dollars, 3. Charles 24,750 dollars, 4. Brett 21,850 dollars, 5. Bert 18,600 dollars, 6. Stu Gillian 12,000 dollars, 7. Ann Elder 11,500 dollars and 8. Bill Daily 10,500 dollars . The money was spread across 36 panelist this year. Total money giving away the first season was 240,800 (Richard gave away about 15 percent of it this season.) spread over 36 panelist.
Wow, obvious cut at 18:31...don't think I've seen a cut like that in Match Game so far. Gene says that'll keep us going through '75 and '76 - can barely hear the '76 cause Charles talks over him.
18:31 is when Brett kept rambling on like she does. I've notice a couple semi-sublte cuts/edits during the decade. I think other times were due to Brett as well but not sure.
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, eating her curds and whey. Along came a spider, and sat down beside her, and said, "Whatcha got in the bowl sweetie?" :)
Now I know that this episode is the last one of 1973 because I wasn't sure if it was part of the last week of December's episodes.Match Game 74 (1/2/74) episode 120 is a stand alone episode.
The top matches were 1. Richard 223 matches (Full game 31%/head to head 23%) he was getting better at it at the end, just not picked as much yet and he is the only one been there from the beginning., 2. Brett 159 matches (Full game 29%/head to head 29%), 3. Betty 96 matches (Full game 39%/head to head 43%), 4. Charles 84 matches (Full game 32%/head to head 55%) and 5. Bert 68 matches (full game 36%/head to head 33%), 6. Loretta Swit 49 matches (Full game 28%/head to head 50%), 7. Jo Ann Pflug 48 matches (Full game 37%/head to head 29%) and 8. Ann Elder 37 matches (Full game 34$/head to head 57%).
My count only had 153 matches for Richard (179 counting the audience match round, 185 across all rounds). Not counting the missing episodes because I could not watch those, naturally.
Your channel has some interesting comments. I saw Convey on Tattletales and didn't like him until now. Thank you for posting this episode and listing it separately!
'Pluck' seemed like such an obvious answer. I groan and shake my head when the contestants give these odd answers. I guess it's different sitting up there on stage (?)
Yes, a lot of people get stage fright. There's a large audiencee, the MC, multiple TV cameras and the panel to audienced with. I'm a musician but never had it, but I'm just a drummer. Several lead singer types (who are immensely talented btw) actually get sick beforehand!
It is much different being onstage if you're not used to it. Nerves, pressure, the audience are all things onstage that aren't around when you're playing along with the show at home.
"Killed" the spider should not have been accepted because there are multiple ways to kill a bug. The contestant's answer was "smashed" the spider, which is a specific method of killing.
It seems to me that smashing is the standard way for humans to kill spiders. (It is true that beheading, poisoning, stabbing, and asphyxiating are all possible alternative methods, though.)
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Not a chance Gene.. ;0) hump.. Two chairs gone this week.. ;0) 3rd eye.. ;0) Can I move my floor.. ;0) Didn't realize Charles started that so early.. ;0) Watch it Harry! We all know Harry.. ;0)
@@Wildstar40 Gene say bye from MG74 but the show was still MG73 for at least 1 more minute I guess is the mistake. Althou I guess you could also say that they had already switch the signs so he was correct, althou he hadn't signed off MG73.
I want to wish match game and classic cbs game show a very happy new year 2024 and this episode is not only from 1973 to 1974 but Also 1983 to 1984 as well and also 2005 into 2006 also 2011 into 2012 as well and reminds me of same simulator as Hollywood squares Nbc Peter Marshall and Bob sagets 1 vs 100 game show as well
If BRETT would shut up, she would not have to hear the question again! She starting to get drunk, on the next show she’ll be getting out of her seat. I’m sure I’m trying to upstage everyone.
Contestant Judy has such a lovely look and demeanor! Almost every single question Brett asks Gene to repeat it. I think it's more to do w/wanting more attention than not being able to focus as she's forever interjecting every possible moment. But as a musician, I'm familiar with the type, and you need that kind of personality on stage as a front-man.

Hello MGP, just wanted to thank you for sharing the '73 shows with the fans. Looking forward to whatever is coming next. : )
Happy New Year Match Game 73! Goodbye 73! I finally made it to this episode! :D Cant wait to watch Match Game 74! :)
Thank You MatchGameProductions for posting these. I remember them from when I was young. They brought back lots of memories & lots of laughs. Now on to '74.
The sheer existence of a show like Match Game 73 is proof that we live in a much more magical, wonderful and stranger world than we tend to image.
So much fun watching them celebrate!
I had a blast watching Match Game '73, now on to '74!!! Right on!!!
👍👍
I remember seeing this on New Year's Eve 12-31-1973. I thank you for posting it! I await your reply.
Boy you really tell when it's getting to the end of the recording day!

Very interesting. Would you happen to have compiled the stats on all the years?
I remember watching this New Year 's episode on December 31st,1973

Talk about an unforced error: Who would not have thought of PLUCKED?
20:28 And there's the lesser-spotted Johnny Olson.
Nice spot!
Johnny Olson was always a pleasure to see.
my favorite contestant is the adorable Sue Yannick winning an incredible $13,000 for the 1st season of Match Game...

Naturally, Somers and her big mouth disrupts the proceedings.

I, Robinson Crusoe, resolve never again to *_eat meat_* on Friday. (It's a pun!)

Harry "smashed" her anyway. Five of the stars had Ripped/Torn pants for the bullfighter question
The producers edited out part of the show because someone said _______!!!!
I'm enjoying this
Touché, Gail 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Does anybody else think Judy looks like the child actor Rick Schroeder? In spite of that comment Judy's quite a hottie

Look like Reynaldo Rey
Apparently he is.
Several people mentioned that. Ever after I googled him I still don't know him. I guess I missed his entire career.
Finally, they had two Black people as contestants, I always wondered why they hadn’t had two Black people or two men as contestants.
Today I have been mostly eating spuds 😊
Paula, I thought it was Koonta Kintay

Brett isn't the sharpest one on the panel. I think she's stalling for time to think of an answer.
So what happens when they turn the loser around?
Eaten by lions. 😅
😂
They slide down a ramp out to the parking lot where a case of rice a roni awaits.
"Chap-ans" had been around since 1948!
Why did Gene wear the same ugly ties year after year?
That looks like his favorite tie. His wife Helen picked out his ties. Apparently Rubin Brothers sent the suits but cheaped out on the ties.
She's blonde
