My Steam Deck rarely leaves its official dock. My old desktop's harddrive died so I thought to use the Steam Deck as my main PC until I picked up a new HDD. Fast forward a month and the Steam Deck is still my main PC; I've switched from Windows to Steam OS and I'm happy to be here. :)
I found a like new condition steam controller at video games etc for $50 compared to $150-300 online, first time ever actually touching one, got home and the left track pad, you cannot press down on unfortunately
Love my steam deck. I have a high end desktop and find i do more in my living room (rather than my home office) with the steam deck! Finished Kakarot on max settings, Finished RDR2 on High settings, working on BG3 on Steam Deck with Streaming.
I had a nice, all metal dock off of Amazon for $19 with more ports than the official dock, then returned it and ordered the official dock just because it gets updates from time to time, also jsaux makes a nice metal piece that goes right over the official dock so that you can still dock your deck with any case on your deck for like $13
One thing reviewers don't mention is how inflexible these docks actually are (those with a cradle and a short usb-c cord attached to the dock.)... Because once you dock it, you render the Steam Deck input useless, requiring external peripherals to interact with the device. Either a computer mouse+keyboard setup or external controllers. The solution I find most comfortable and flexible are docks that offer an actual USB-C port where you can attach ANY length of usb-cable you desire. That way I can use a 3m cable and enjoy playing on the Steam Deck in my hands, with the inputs I love, while still getting the benefits of playing on a big screen.
Answer the question, I have two steam decks. I bought the original and then an OLED afterwards and decided to keep the original one hooked up to my television. The OLED I use around the house.
Just as a PSA, which some or many may already know about, but when playing docked, if you use FSR it will lock to 30fps. I only just discovered this since I'm playing Human Revolution docked and noticed no matter how low I went in resolution, it stayed at 30fps. And it may be the reason why Cultic's DLC ran so poorly, which I am now going to have to check out again.
I love my deck, but I have two issues that are.nkt deal breaker but are annoying. 1. Sometimes after shoting down the steam deck while down and then powering on, the speaker.ks not recognized. I need to reboot it for it to work again. 2. The HDMI port doesn't recognize my TV sometimes, I need to disconnect the HDMI cable and reconnect it. I've been told that DP doesn't have that issue so I will give that a try.
You forgot to mention one disadvantage and that is if you have a cat that likes to chew on cables your SD and the dock are at risk! And seeing your connector i believe you have experienced the same already :D
I am going to connect two 4k 60hz display, then enter desktop mode. Then, I will install vscode, git, PostgreSQL server, redis server, nodejs, and start web development. 4 cores 8 threads with 16gb of ram is more than enough. I will run "systemctl disable postgres" so on boot the server won't start with the os. My 1TB Steam deck is coming soon.
After I bought jsaux modcase with a built-in kick-stand I regretted buying a dock. Should've spent that money on an anker or ugreen hub. And 55 inch is a small tv.
If I’m gonna use a steam deck for my TV and use a controller, does it really matter what type of Steam Deck I should get like the LCD version or the OLED version?
Got my dock to play some multiplayer games when the boys are in for a videogame night I have an xbox, but i'm not really into the whole '"buy your games again" shit
That's what the docks are made for, I just use an Xbox controller and use my steam deck like a home console whenever I feel, and the steam controllers work perfectly with a steam deck
Do I have to manually scale this thing every time I plug it into a TV? I've tried a Samsung and LG so far and ever time I have to manually scale it using the tv settings. Using auto scale on the decks settings barely do anything.
Dude...my dock works great on a reguler TV..but when I connect to a portable monitor it blinks to black back and forth. When I go to desktop mode display settings...it labels the screen name as "do not use"
Hilarious I watched 5 different videos browsing the comments to figure out bite the bullet and get a valve dock vs jsaux or some other cheaper one to avoid any kind of issues and or damage to your steam deck or charger.

that works great too!
is there a way to change the resolution? im stuck on the default steam deck resolution when i plug it into a monitor.
