I really hope Roland adds count-in to resample. Seems like an oversight (unless I’m missing something). I’m impressed you are able to hit the button and get ready with your guitar so quickly. Any tips for that?

Just tried this other day and I thought I was missing something. I agree, there needs to be a count in for resample mode so we can play our instruments in easier. Is there a place where we can request features? Cuz that would be a game changer.
I just had the idea of resampling a pattern chain and inserting a 1 or 2 bar click track pattern before the beat starts as a pseudo-count-in and then you can just trim the sample. That might work, no?

Thanks heaps my dude! Sometimes I would take a beat from the 404a ps and record the drums then sample layers to the 303 separately, line them up in a pattern then be able to mix them with vinyl sim on…pad link, way easier!
If I have a pattern (in Pattern Select mode) that I am wanting to play along with, do I first need to resample the entire pattern to a pad in order to do this workflow? Or is there a way to record guitar to a pad while playing a pattern in pattern mode?
When you go to resample the pattern to pad, go into record settings and set routing to Ext In - now the pattern with play but the only thing recording to the pad will be your instrument. This was a new thing added in an update after this vid…hope that helps!
@@Nonjuror thanks! You actually do mention that in the video. The thing that I was missing was that I needed to have the EXT SOURCE button pressed as well. After that, everything worked.
I noticed you hit hold at the beginning. you went really fast on the first part. How do I live play my keyboard directly into the sampler without having to resample and hairline perfect the resample so it syncs?..
There’s been a bunch of firmware updates since this video so there’s some changes. Now you can do the Resample Pattern to a Pad thing but in Rec Settings set Source to Ext In (opposed to sync), it’ll then play the pattern while just recording your keys. You can then set that recording to one shot playback mode so if you recorded 16 bars over a 4 bar loop it’ll play it thru without restarting every 4 bars.
How does the amp simulation on the MK2 compare to a stand alone AMP/IR pedal like the Boss IR-200 or Styrmon Iridium? Also have you tried any fuzz pedals straight into the new 404?

@@Nonjuror Yeah usually there is some unwanted noise or it just sounds extra fake. If it sounds this good on RUclips….can only imagine what it might sound like in real life.
I just had an idea. I don't have a MKII yet, but I'm planning on getting one. Since I'm a piano/keys player, being able to record in real time, even if it's just for 4-8 bars... So, since you're resampling a pattern to a pad, then recording over that, you could create a pattern chain, make a 1 or 2 measure click track pattern that plays before the beat, then you can have a count it. It's a work around, but I might try this when I get mine.
Yep yep, there’s a couple of updates to it since this video that I think you’ll like. You don’t have to resample the pattern like I did anymore, you can now have, say, a 4 bar pattern looping and record 16 bars (for example) of keys to its own pad. You can have a 1 or 2 bar count in before rec starts. Also the recorded keys which is longer than the repeating pattern can be set to “one shot playback” mode which allows you to add it to that pattern n as it repeats the long sample will keep playing without restarting.

What samplers have amp sim?
Do you think this would all be possible with a looper pedal? So like record some guitar, have it looping, sample the loop, mute the loop on the looper or delete it, then use the out from the looper into the sp404 and play with it? That would be awesome
You can definitely run the looper into the 404 n use 404 fx but I don’t know how seamless it would be for doing live if you wanted to sample the loop onto the 404
@@Nonjuror I appreciate the fast response! That's great to know. I just purchased an SP404 Mk2 last night. I'm gonna be using this with the Aeros Looper by Singular Sound and connect them with MIDI so the tempos sync up, and I'm gonna go to town with this thing!
That’s some dope science right there!
👍
Cheers!
Pads as tracks, nice!
Yeh man, then just Pad Link to keep them in sync while you switch between fx buses jammin…wild shit
@@Nonjuror Thanks again for this vid. Just came back to this to remember how to do it 👍
Hahaha me too! I got videos I’m sure I made for me coz I forget stuff…especially the sp303 pattern copy workaround one, I watch that almost everytime I make a beat on the 303
🖤
Cheers my dude! 🍺🍺🍺🍺
SP808 Multi track workflow
I’ve been hearing that, sp808 looks like a monster with the multitrack with beat making game…plus faders, I miss faders.
@@Nonjuror yeah it is , I got the clear emix version...( just cosmetic stuff, but the new OS gives you a mono synth ) You get 4 tracks of stereo, or 8 tracks of mono ....with more variety of guitar/vocal focused effects.
That sounds sick af! How is the mono synth? You use it for bass lines etc?
@@Nonjuror the synth is based on the #rolandjp8000 , so it’s aiiight. Yes I used it for bass and leads, also resampling the synth gets more thickness in the waveform....then I resample again with effects and gets your weight up. PHAT.
@@Nonjuror ruclips.net/video/Yflrv4UFPE4/видео.html SP808 synth overview
Dope! If we were cool having the beat recorded or just using SP-404 as a stompbox, could you have applied INPUT FX + BUS 1 FX + BUS 2 FX + BUS 3 FX + BUS 4 FX on your live guitar and used skip back to get all them effects?
Skip Back or Resample (Routing set to Mix) also. You can assign the Beat to not being on any of the Buses n stack them all up on the guitar.
That was super cool!
Thanks heaps, cheers! 🍺🍺🍺🍺
Yes!!!!! This is just the video I was looking for to justify buying one of these. GREAT VIDEO
Haha yeh the amp sim really steps it up n it’s surprisingly versatile once you start experimenting with different amp models / mfx combinations. Cheers!
I hate jam bands
Ok
@@Nonjuror don’t get offended, bro
Ok
