I used a calcium carbide lamp for caving in the 1990's. The flame burns white and produces a bright light. I preferred this light to the battery powered headlamps at the time. The light illuminated a large area without any annoying bright spots. (LED lights have solved the problems with the headlights of that time.) I own several vintage calcium carbide lamps that I bought used from various sources. I have one lamp that was sold new by REI in 1988 for $35. A company in India still makes them.
Dear mr. Spangler. I love your stuff. It's great. Please, if its possible, could you make a few videos that go in depth into your demonstrations and where you're not always rushed to finish so quickly? I know you've got more to say and I know the viewers would appreciate it. I'm not a science teacher, I'm a music teacher;who also loves science. Thank you kindly
+LrdAml I agree. I like these videos, but he always seems like hes on a stimulant in them he speaks so fast and doesnt really take time. Its probably because of time restrictions in the news, but just saying.
ok mr spangler i've been watching you since i was 13 now am 17 and still watching all of your videos you really changed the way of how i look at science so thank you very much for doing that because your videos really changed my mind for the better
