I had a similar crash with my Avata. I was coming off a water fall when the drone took off on its own. I could not control it with the controller 2 and crashed into the bottom of the falls. The remote showed good good signal to the drone and still had good GPS. I was about 2 meters above the rushing water when I lost control. I believe DJI has an issue with the Avata has a issue on how it responds when the lower sensor sees running water under the drone.
Hmm, Heard about the issue. That's the first time I heard about it in regards to water. Thanks I still mostly blame me but either way. Sorry for your loss too, man Hope you had insurance.
RIP DJI Awater. Good to hear you had insurance. I got the insurance for my DJI Mini 4 Pro after a few months and it really reduces the stress level when flying.
That was due to the GPS, in many cases I have seen that when the satellite signal is lost, the avata does not have the ability to locate itself. The Gps helps to remain stable, but in that signal loss or recovery satellites the avata drifts or in the worst case it collapses. The best yo can do is not to risk as you have done, due to this factory problem.
Thanks, good info I have heard that as well. If I did not panic I think I could have saved it. The biggest issue was I had it on return to home. If I collected myself quickly and thought to switch to hover. I could have grabbed it I think. The only thing I could do was turn. I think there was enough signal for it to switch had I tried. Thanks for watching and feedback.
@@markgentilcore5664yeah, I thought about this extremely when I saw your video. If you are flying in places where there is a possibility of losing your GPS, it is necessary to change from RTH to Hovering

I did retrieve the drone from the water. Had a good video of small fish swimming all around the drone before the camera died. It was still powered up when I pulled it out of the water. I had the DJI care but chose to pay for the repair myself. With replacing the battery and getting a replacement it was about $250.00 to have it replaced. I have found when I fly over water I have to keep the Avata from nearing a hover with a poor GPS signal the drone will be hard to control and not respond to commands from the controller well even when I am less than 300 feet from it with not and obstacles between me and the Avata. My Mini 3 pro does not exabit this kind of behavior with flying at the same location.
Great feedback! I just ordered my mini pro. I love the avata but they really do have different applications and situations to fly. I had the Mavic two loved that also but really looking forward to the mini. Thanks for watching and well thought out comment.
I have both the Avata and the Mini 3 Pro. There are times I fly the mini-3 Pro with the googles and the motion controller. This past week I was flying from outside in the bright sunlight into a long carport with low light and my Avata almost came to a stop once the GPS signals dropped out even though my throttle position on the motion controller did not change at all during the event. I believe there are still some control issues with the Avata that happens when you have week GPS signal even when you command it to move forward. I have been flying over a water fall and have it suddenly fly back ward when stopping the forward motion of the drone to take some still video of the water going over the falls. I believe DJI still has a few bugs in the Avata but it is fun to fly.
I'm gonna put this one on me. When I went through the first time I saw it lose GPS at the end of the stone arch. The second time I just wanted to see the inside . I also had it set to return to home. I crashed into water yesterday on my avata. I'm about to send mine in for refresh. Did you end up keeping your battery? I don't know if it's good or not anymore after submerged in water for a few hours
Hi sorry for the delay. I actually sent the battery and motion controller which is what they asked me to do. They tested that sent it back. It took about 10 days. Pretty scary when it happened
Same issue with mine. Sometimes it gets unresponsive, starts drifting, and then goes balls to the wall full Throttle, and blast upwards or gets stuck to anything in the way, while sounding like an F1 car, just SCREAMING. Last time it happened luckily it was under a porch roof, so it just stuck to the ceiling and I was able to retrieve it
What about the DJI warranty in this case? I live in Thailand and DJI care refresh is not available here. So I think someday my avata maybe go wrong like this and I think the warranty doesn't help that much. I decided to upgrade my avata into 3.5 from axis. This broke my 6 months left warranty for real. But in your case I think something just got wrong with GPS and some sensors just got an error. Because technically GPS can't penetrate the stone but without M mode I think the real problem is coming from sensors for sure because In N and S mode the drone should not be out of control by itself. Sorry for your loss.
Yea it worked out fine. Got the refresh pack and replaced it within 6 days. Had to walk in some really cold water to retrieve but lesson learned Thanks
Sorry for your loss there bud losing gps will do that with the avata it gets a mind of its own glad to see you were sensible enough to have care refresh and got it replaced
I had experienced the same loss of GPS signal with my Avata, fortunatelly it was while doing real-estate videos and not above water. Almost ruined my work day with this error - jumping in and out of Normal mode/making the drone weird to fly all the time. "Good" to see that it's not only with my Avata with this problem, but looks like they all are.. Because of this I'm thinking of selling the Avata and moving to a FPV cinebot drone with a proper antena signal. p.s. when you will lose the GPS signal the drone just has max 8-10 km/h speed and is really dull (like a limp mode), which means you can still controll it, but it will be reaaaaly slow. Be ready for the signal to appear while flying, because your input sensitivity will go back to normal - the drone will likely "jump" towards the way you were flying before you correct it.
That's why I'd rather rely on my skills as a pilot and not all the BS features. People get fantastic real estate videos all the time with an acro FPV cinewhoop.
